Little Chick Pattern

ABBREVIATION ● R – round/ row ● Ch – chain ● St(s) – stitch (es) ● Sc – single crochet ● Inc – increase (2 single crochet in 1 stitch) ● Dec – decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together) ● Sl st – slip stitch ● [..] – repeat the instructions given in between the brackets ● (..) – total number of stitches

MATERIALS ● Yarn: Sport weight yarn in yellow and orange colour ● 2.5 mm crochet hook ● 8 mm safety eyes ● Polyester fiberfill for stuffing ● Tapestry needle ● Black embroidery thread ● Needle ● Small amount of felt in pink colour for blush

PATTERN HEAD AND BODY With yellow colour yarn R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: Inc in each st (12). R3: [ Sc in next st, inc ] x 6 (18). R4: [ Sc in next 2 st, inc ] x 6 (24). R5: [ Sc in next 3 st, inc ] x 6 (30). R6-9: Sc in each st (30). R10: [ Sc in next 4 st, inc ] x 6 (36). R11-13: Sc in each st (36). R14: [ Sc in next 5 st, inc ] x 6 (42). R15-19: Sc in each st (42). Insert 8mm safety eyes between R10 and R11 with 7 stitches in between. R20: [ Sc in next 4 st, dec ] x 7 (35). R21: [ Sc in next 3 st, dec ] x 7 (28). R22: [ Sc in next 2 st, dec ] x 7 (21). R23: [ Sc in next st, dec ] x 7 (14). Stuff firmly with fiberfill. R24: Dec in each st (7). Fasten off and sew the ends closed using tapestry needle.

WINGS * 2 With yellow colour yarn R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: [ Sc in next 2 st, inc ] x 2 (8). R3-4: Sc in each st (8). Don't stuff and sc through both the layers of the wings to close. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

MOUTH With orange colour yarn Ch 4, sc in second chain from hook, sc in next ch, 2 sc in last chain. Now working on the other side of the chain, Sc in next 2 chain space. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

LEGS * 2 Using orange colour yarn 4 sc in magic ring (4). Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

FROG HAT HAT Using green colour yarn R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: Inc in each st (12). R3: [ Sc in next st, inc ] x 6 (18). R4: [ Sc in next 2 st, inc ] x 6 (24). R5: [ Sc in next 3 st, inc ] x 6 (30). R6: [ Sc in next 4 st, inc ] x 6 (36). R7-9: Sc in each st (36). Fasten off and sew the ends.

EYES * 2 Using green colour yarn R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: [ Sc in next 2 st, inc ] x 2 (8). R3: Sc in each st (8). Insert 6 mm eyes between R2-R3 of the eyes. Sew the eyes 3 rows away from the centre of the hat. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.

BUNNY HAT HAT Using pink colour yarn R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: Inc in each st (12). R3: [ Sc in next st, inc ] x 6 (18). R4: [ Sc in next 2 st, inc ] x 6 (24). R5: [ Sc in next 3 st, inc ] x 6 (30). R6: [ Sc in next 4 st, inc ] x 6 (36). R7-9: Sc in each st (36). Fasten off and sew the ends.

EARS * 2 With pink colour yarn R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6). R2: [ Sc in next st, inc ] x 3 (9). R3-6: Sc in each st (9). R7: [ Sc in next st, dec ] x 3 (6). Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew both the ears near the centre of the hat.

ASSEMBLING ● Pinch the mouth a little with fingers and sew it in between the eyes. ● Attach the wings between R10-R11. ● Sew the legs slantingly around R19-20. ● Cut 2 small round shaped pink felt for the blush and glue it below the eyes (optional).

And your cute little chick is now done!
