Distance Between Two Earth Electrode
Short Description
Distance Between Two Earth Electrode...
Description
What should be distance between two electrical earthing pit
Distance between two earthing pit is 2 X Length of earthing electrode Why? distance between two pits should not 3m because there is a technical reason behind it, and the reason is that when there is some heavy earth fault and if one of the pits is acting as a returning path for earth fault current then it might go dry due to heat dissipation by the passing current, and simultaneously one more heavy fault happens then these pits will offer high resistance because they have lost moisture and which is not desirable, hence the distance between two 3m pits should be minimum 6mts. As per Distance between plate earth electrodes shall Distance between pipe earth electrodes shall be 5 m minimum.

IS3043, minimum.
As per IEE Rule it should be minimum minimum 5 Meters Meters As per engineering engineering law, law, space require between two earth two earth pit is as the length of the electrode. the electrode. If If 3 meter length of earth electrode using then space require between two earth pit will be 3 meter. If natural ground soil where earth pit is making has high soil resistivity then distance can be reduce otherwise same. Effects of minimum distance in good soil conditi on. Earth pit accommodate the electrical charge from the system and dissipate it into the ground. If short distance provided then electrical charge of two earth pits accommodate in ground shells overlaps with each other and produce heat. Heat is the bad conductor for current so fault current / system body current would not be able to drop into the earth pit and reverse back to the system and damaged electrical network.
Is it Plate Earthing or Pipe or Rod Earthing or Strip or Conductor Earthing? Vide Clause 9.2.1 of IS 3043, for plate earthing, the normal separation distance between two plate earth electrodes is 10 meters, but a separation of 2 meter also can give you sufficient gain. Vide Clause 9.2.2 of IS 3043, for pipe/rod earthing, the mutual separation should be equal to the driven depth of the electrode, but a substantial gain is effected even at 2 meter separation. And, vide Clause 9.2.3, for strip or conductor earthing, the minimum separation distance should be 2.4 meter. First get a copy of IS 3043 and study it carefully. This is the basic requirement for working in an electrical field.
Distance between two earth pits? Earth pit for what purpose? The question does not carry any sense. The IS 3034 is a document comprising of 84 pages and 40 sections and sub sections. Each section give elaborate description of earthing and calculation of earthing details about each and every earthing requirements. This include Domestic, Industrial, LT distribution, HT power Distribution, EHT generation and transmission, Substation, Local power generators, transformers, Lightening arrestors
The 4.1 States that earthing should be done as per IE rules 1956 with all amendments and direction of the local eclectic supply authority. 9. States about earth electrodes 20. About substation Earthing 21. About Earthing of overhead power lines. 22. Industrial premises
In short any person working in Electrical power Supply in Generation ,Transmission ,and Distribution must read ,study and keep a copy of IE rules 1956 and IS pertain to Earthing for the safety of the persons using electricity and those working in electricity and the safety of equipment. So buy borrow or steal as the old saying goes. (Do not land in Jail by stealing or killing others by your ignorance.
