Question 8: Differences between KP and Four Step Method I have read your comments that 4 step theory is different from KP and in predictions it offers different results . Do u have any examples where KP has come out well and for the same chart as per 4 step the results are different . In my experience 4 step theory hits the bulls eye . Hence the clarifications .Pls give max examples Answer 8: (Courtesy of KP-Ezine October 2013) Differences between KP and Four Step Method (Courtesy of Astrovision July 2008 issue, Revised and Updated) S r 1

KP Basis Based on a long term research of Guruji KSK in both Indian and Western astrology Signification by a Planet 1)Planet is the source, constellation indicates nature of the results and the SUB is deciding factor whether the matter is favorable or not 2) K.M. Subramaniam considers the sub lord as a decider and its star lord for its signification. (Sublord Speaks LX, last article, in K P & Astrology 1998, p 69, reprinted in SUBLORD SPEAKS – part 3, p 141) Basic Significators 1) All significators are considered in the order of strength, grade A,B,C,D & E with the astrologer’s own judgment based on his experience taking into account of sub lords. 2) Signification at the planet, star and sub levels are simultaneously considered by C.R. Bhatt, K.M. Subramaniam (Sublord Speaks), Umang Taneja, Kanak Bosmia etc. 3) A planet having no planet in its star is considered as a strong significator of the houses for whose cusps the planet is a sub lord. (KP Reader III p 309, KP & Astrology, 1991 July p 1 & November p 8, PS Rao, Vikari Ramamurthi, Kuppu
FOUR STEP METHOD * Basis Based on K.M. Subramaniam’s Sublord Speaks-1, 2, 3 articles Signification by a Planet 1) A planet signifies the event through 4 steps: i)Planet itself, ii) Star lord of the planet, iii) Sub lord of the planet, iv) Star lord of this sub lord, and 3rd & 4th steps are more important. 2) The 4th step is the alleged extension. 3) The SUB lord in 3rd step is also a significator not a decider like in KP. Basic Significators 1) Only the primary or strong significators are considered. 2) The house occupied by a planet with no planet in its star or a planet in its own star (KP grade B significator) and the houses owned by the planet when they are empty (KP grade D significators) are 4 step primary significators (upgraded KP grade A significators from B & D). 3) The house occupied by a planet acting as the star lord of another planet, i.e. a planet in the step 2 or 4 (KP grade A significator) and the houses owned by the planet when they are empty (KP grade C significators) are 4 step primary significators (KP grade A & upgraded

Ganapathi, R. Mukunda Rajan, Kanak Bosmia etc 4) The sub lord is a decider in judging whether a planet or cusp or significator or dasa lord is favorable or not. Planet Having No Planet in its Stars & Planet in its Own Star They are not the same and only a planet having no planet in its star, but not a planet in its own star, is considered as a strong significator of the houses for whose cusps the planet is a sub lord. Rahu/Ketu Significators 1) Whether Rahu/Ketu is a planet or star lord or sub lord, the followings e been found taken in KP Readers depending on relevance to the event under consideration regardless of their sequence of order (“Rahu/Ketu Rules in KP” ,KPE-Zine, May 2007 issue): i) House occupied by Rahu/Ketu, ii) Planet in conjun. with Rahu/Ketu, iii) Planet in aspect to Rahu/Ketu and iv) Star lord of Rahu/Ketu, v) Sign lord of rasi sign occupied by Rahu/Ketu. 2) Conjunction in the same rasi sign and Hindu aspect without orb are used. 3) No planet, including Rahu/ketu, is wholly benefic or malefic depending on the signification at 3 levels of planet, star and sub by occupation and lordship.

Planet Close to Next Cusp Guruji KSK has taken the result of the Next house ONLY by closeness to the next cusp. (Krishnamurti Padhdhati, Vol. 2, Sagar Publications, 1966, p 281, 5th para; KP Reader IV, page 108 3rd para)

KP Grade E to Grade A Significators
KP grade A significators from C). 4) The signification of a planet in 1st and 3rd step (sub lord) having another planet in its star is not considered, i.e. useless. Planet Having No Planet in its Stars & Planet in its Own Star They are the same as the house occupied by a planet with no planet in its star or a planet in its own star is a primary significator. Rahu/Ketu Significators 1) The same rules of primary significators in point 2.2. apply to Rahu/Ketu. 2) Only if Rahu/Ketu is itself the primary significator, then the house occupied, the planets in conjunction or aspecting within the orb of 3° 20′ (extendable to 5° esp. for fast moving planets, if needed), its star lord and sign lord also will become the primary significators. 3) When Rahu/Ketu is the star lord of another planet, i.e. it is in the step 2 or 4, the house occupied and the houses owned by its star lord are considered. 4) Rahu is a blemish planet, which creates problems and does not give the results effectively to the native when it is in the DBA, unless Rahu is a strong significator of the improving houses in all 4 steps. Planet Close to Next Cusp A planet is supposed to be a significator of both the previous house in which that planet is posited and the next house to whose cusp the planet is very close. In this case, the result of the next house may not be effective as the previous house is detrimental or Vyaya or Vrava or negative to the matters of next house. (KP Reader III, KP Reader IV, Chandrakant R. Bhatt: Nakshatra Chintamani). KP Grade E to Grade A Significators
1) They are considered as weak significator after grade A,B,C & D and used as a last resort. 2) Conjunction in the same rasi sign and Hindu aspect are considered without using orb. 3) Grade E significators are planets which are conj. and aspected “by” significators A,B,C,D but not planets “aspecting” A,B,C,D. 4) No planet is wholly benefic or malefic depending on its signification at planet, star and sub levels by occupation and lordship. 5) Rahu/Ketu does not aspect any planet or house since it is not a planet having physical body but it is only a sensitive intersecting point in the pathway of Sun and Moon. 8

1) If a planet is in conjunction with a cusp within the prescribed orb, behind or ahead the cusp, the planet automatically becomes a primary (KP grade A) significator of this cusp in any of 4 steps. 2) Only if the original planet itself is a primary significator, i) if a planet is conjoined with another planet within the prescribed orb, the planet is a primary significator of another planet, ii) if a planet aspects on the cusps within the prescribed orb, the planet becomes a primary significator of these houses whose cusps are aspected; iii) if a planet has the Hindu aspect (throwing or receiving) with another planet within the prescribed orb, the planet is a primary significator of another planet. 3) Ketu’s 7th aspect on the cusp is taken. 4) A well known practitioner does not use the 7th aspect of planets. Ruling Planets Ruling Planets 1) The RPs in order of preference are: 1) The RPs are in the order of: i) Lagna i) Lagna’s star lord lord, ii) Moon’s star lord, iii) Moon’s ii) Lagna’s sign lord sign lord, and iv) Day lord only. iii) Moon’s star lord 2) Rahu/Ketu is considered as RP, only if iv) Moon’s sign lord it directly appears in the RPs. v) Day lord, 3) The alleged advancement of 4 step is 2) Moon’s sub lord and Lagna’s sub lord fixing the DBA without using the RPs. are added by some KP followers. 4) But RPs are used to confirm or correct 3) If Rahu/Ketu is in conj. or aspect with the sub lord of the cusp under judgment. the RP; or if it occupies the sign owned But it is not to recast the horoscope again by the RP, Rahu/Ketu should be included and to correct only the required sub lord as the RP. because when one judges the other 4) The RP in the star or sub of retrograde matter of the same native then again one planet should be omitted. will confirm the related cuspal sub lord. called Plutoid, was not even mentioned in KP Readers. No planet is wholly benefic or malefic. House Grouping Mostly 3, rarely 4 houses are grouped for an event to happen.
effect of Neptune is not yet sure on the basis of insufficient cases.
House Grouping More houses are added, for marriage 2,7,11 & 5,8; for foreign 3,9,12 & 5,7 perhaps in order to signify by the strong or primary significators only. More than one Marriage More than one Marriage If 7th cusp sub lord is connected to If the sub lords of 6th cusp & 7th cusp duality & 2nd cusp sub lord signifies 7th are the same. Cannot Own a House in Life Cannot Own a House in Life Guruji KSK’s 4th cusp sub lord is Rahu. If 4th cusp sub lord is Rahu, which is (Astrosecrets & KP Part II, p 252) allegedly said by Guruji KSK. Child Sex Child Sex Guruji KSK, “I never had any experience If the 4th step star lord of child cusp in pin-pointing the sex (of child) before (starting from 5th for mother and 11th birth...” (KP Reader IV p 236 last para) for father) sub lord is in odd sign, male child is indicated; if in even sign, female. Promise of Event Promise of Event 1) It is promised, if the sub lord of cusp 1) It is promised, if the sub lord of under judgment is a significator of any of concerned cusp under judgment is a the required houses (2, 7, 11 for primary significator of any of the marriage) without any other strong required houses (2, 7, 11 & 5, 8 for negative signification. marriage) in any of 4 steps unless there 2) It is not promised, if the cusp sub lord are only the primary significators of does not signify any of the required totally negative houses (1, 6, 10, 12) in houses or there is a strong negative the steps 3 and 4. signification. 2) It is not promised, only if the primary . significators of totally negative houses appear in the steps 3 & 4. Negative House Negative House The previous house is detrimental or The 1st house is not a negative house for Vyaya or negative to the matters of next 2nd, but a primary house to get money; house. (KP Reader III & IV, Bhatt’s 10th is not a negative house to 11th but it Nakshatra Chintamani). is not applicable in marriage matters. Computerized Significators Computerized Significators Grade A,B,C & D are not final and to be They were supposed to be final as judged by the concerned subs etc. supported by KPAstro 3.0, Astro-Kundli etc. but no more due to changing rules. Fixing DBAS Fixing DBAS 1) 3 methods of selecting fruitful 1) The event will fructify only when the significators: i) by using RPs; ii) DBA lords are jointly the primary selecting the significators which are in significators of all the required houses (2, the stars of the cusp sub lord of the 7, 11 for marriage), signifying at least concerned houses; iii) selecting the one different house each by DBA.
significators whose sub lords are one of the significators. 2) Significators which signify 12th to the required houses should be rejected. The houses 6,8,12 to the concerned house are unfavorable to this house. 3) A planet which appears many times among signficators/RPs or connected to various significators should be chosen. Transit Check An event generally happens during the joint period of the significators when the transit agrees i.e. at the time while Sun, Moon and joint DBAS lords are found to be transiting in the star or sub of the same joint DBAS lords.
2) Events are found happen without the complete DBA chain and so Sookshma is included to make a chain complete chain in DBAS. It is also said to use both chains without a prior clue which chain will be complete in reality. Some hints are available how to choose Antara but Sookshma is decided on case by case basis only. 1 Transit Check 9 1) The event will fructify, only if the star lord for fast moving planets and sub lord for slow moving planets, in which the DBA lords are transiting, are the primary significators of the required houses in the first 2 steps, neglecting negative houses. 2) The event will not happen during the period while there are only the primary significators of the totally negative houses in the first 2 steps or while the said star lord or sub lord is retrograde. 2 Significators of almost All Houses Significators of almost All Houses 0 3 selection methods and other means It is stuck and the same with significators mentioned in item 15 can be used. of a very few houses only. 2 Established Rules Established Rules 1 Rules are established in the six KP Rules are not yet consistently and clearly Readers based on Guruji KSK’s long established, and still have been modified term research. on the basis on-going experimental research like Pluto’s negative effect against existing rules, no more reliability of SW supported significators, no written reference book that contain all essential basic rules. 2 Bottom Line Bottom Line 2 Since the techniques and steps are not Since the techniques and steps are not the the same, the results can be different. same, the results can be different * See the most comprehensive article “Four Step Theory” that covered all basic rules, which may not include the latest modifications.
