Diastasis recti is a abdominal separation of the rectus abdominis muscle into right and left halves.

 

Created by stretching of linea alba

 

Linea alba=connect 2 region

 

 

Diastasis recti commonly occur in 2 people o

Newborn baby Rectus

is not fully develop(premature baby)

Pregnant women Stretching

of the rectus due to groing of uterus

 

 

!t can occur above" belo" or at the level of the umbilicus but appear to be less common belo umbilicus

 

!t also appear to be less common in omen ith good abdominal tone before pregnancy pregnancy..

 

Causes from diastasis recti  

#ay produce musculos$eletal complaints" such as lo  bac$ pain" possibly as a result of decrease ability of the abdominal musculature musculature to stabili%e s tabili%e the pelvis and lumbar spine.

 

*amine by positioning your pt. !n supine ith the $nees bent.

2. 'lace one hand behind your head and the other hand on your abdomen ith your fingertips across your midline+parallel ith your aistline at the level of your belly button. ,. She raises her head and shoulders until u ntil her nec$ is about - inches from the supporting surface. sur face.

 

  . /he chin should be tuc$ed and the arms stretched str etched out. 0. /he '/ chec$s for a bulge in the central abdominal area" hich is evident hen the muscles have parted.   1. !f present it is defined by the number of fingers that can be inserted hori%ontally hori%ontally into the gap at the level level of the umbilicus and 2 inches above and belo.

 

Precaution  

 

/est the pregnant patients for presence of diastasis recti  before performing any abdominal abdominal e*ercises.

ait until three days after delivery to perform the diastasis chec$" as the muscles ill be too slac$ for a reliable r eliable result.

 

!f you had a C+section" you should ait appro*imately si* ee$s or until your incision has healed.

 

 

Do not perform a standard curl+up (raising your shoulders off the  bed) until your center seam does not bulge or hollo and you feel only 2 finger idths or less separation beteen the recti muscles.

 

!f at any time (ee$s" months" years later) you notice the gap returning" ust repeat this e*ercise to decrease it.

 

'oorly e*ecuted abdominal e*ercises can cause an increase in intra+ abdominal pressure" this force may cause further recti separation and its accompanying bulge3hernia to orsen.
