To let the students students know, know, famili familiarize arize,, and learn learn the basic basic operations operations involving exponents and radicals. 2. To let the students students unders understand tand the relationshi relationship p between radical radicalss and exponents and their concept. 3. To let the students students know and and identify identify the parts parts of a radical. radical. B. Secon Secondar dary y Object Objectiv ives es 1. To elevate elevate the the student’ student’ss knowledge knowledge on Mathematical Mathematical operations. operations. 2. To let the students students notice notice the the importance importance of of such operati operations ons in the the real world. Subject Matter:

Radicals, Rational Exponents, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division of Radicals, Simplyifying Radicals

Method Used:

Inducti ctive, Gam Game, Lecture ure and Dis Discussion

Materials to be used: Flash Cards on Exponents, Radicals and Rational Exponents Illustrations on the Laws of Radicals and Laws of Exponents. Procedure: A. Rout outine 1. Start Start the the class class with with a silen silentt prayer prayer.. 2. Coll Collec ecti tion on of ass assig ignm nmen ents ts 3. Review Review on previ previous ous lesson: lesson: Exponen Exponents ts B. Moti Motiva vati tion on:: -Game using Flash cards involving exponents and basic operations on Exponents. The group with most points wins. 1. Procedure: 1.1. Group the students into 2 by counting off. 1.2. Give the instructions. 2. Instructions (to be told to students): 2.1. Listen to my instructions and wait for my go. Points will also  be given if followed correctly by the group. 2.2. First instruction, Group 1 will be on my right and Group 2 will  be on my left side. Group yourselves. The first to group will gain 2  points. Go. 2.3. Move the chairs to the side so that the center isle will be wider  and then form a straight line parallel p arallel to the isle. Go. 2.4. I’ll show 10 flash cards and answer accordingly. Each flash card is worth 1 point. The first on each rank should be the one to

run and give the answer to me. Answers should be written in any  piece of paper. Change turns after I have added the point. The next in rank will be the next and so on. 2.5. Preliminary round. 2.6. Start the game. 2.7. (End of the game) Return the chairs and sit down. Lesson Proper: A. Definition Definition of important important terms terms to be used in in the subject matter matter.. Use an illustration as an example. (Use Lecture and Discussion) 1. Exponent 2. Rati Ration onal al expo expone nent nt 3. Radical 4. Radical Sig Sign 5. Inde Index x of the the rad radic ical al 6. Radicand 7. Root Rootss of the the radi radican cand d B. Relate each term to other terms so that the students will know the concep t  between exponents and radicals. C. Instruct the students how the radical work using the definition. D. Illustrate the Law of Radicals and Laws of Exponents and relate accordingly  by giving examples. E. Ask each student to also give examples. F. Teach how to add and subtract radicals and the rules to consider in doing such operations by giving examples. G. Have the students answer some exercises on the board (board-work). H. Teach how to multiply and divide radicals and the rules to consider in doing such operations. Also give examples and let the students answer some exercises in the board I. Define what is a simplified radical then explain how to simplify radicals by giving examples. J. Have the students answer some exercises on the board and when they’re done. K. Encourage the students to recall what they’re learned during the session. L. Evaluate the students.

Evaluation: -To be answered in 10 minutes. Answers should be written in a ¼ sheet of paper. Instruction: Answer directly. Show solutions.

Agreement/ Assignment: Study in advance or read in advance: Simplifying Radicals,  pp.143-144 , Algebra Made Easy by Felipe Comandante, Jr.
