It is characterised by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu temple architecture, and by the 47m high central building inside a large complex of individual temples. Not long after its construction, the temple was abandoned and began to deteriorate. Reconstruction of the compound began in 1918. The main building was completed in around 1953. Much of the original stonework has been stolen and reused at remote construction sites. A temple will only be rebuilt if at least 75% of the original stones are available, and therefore only the foundation walls of most of the smaller shrines are now visible and with no plans for their reconstruction. The temple was damaged during the earthquake in Java in 2006. Early photos suggest that although the complex appears to be structurally intact, damage is significant. Large pieces of debris, including carvings, were scattered over the ground. The temple has been closed to the public until damage can be fully assessed. My Favourite Teacher Everyone has a favourite teacher, someone who we feel a special connection with. In primary school, my favourite teacher was Ms. Nuraini. I was not such a good pupil, but just looking at Ms. Nuraini made me feel that I was going to learn. Ms. Nuraini was 45 years old and rather short about 1.50 meters. Since I’m short too, I always feel a bit nervous with tall teacher who tower menacingly over me. It was reassuring to be around Ms. Nuraini. Also, I always enjoy the fragrance of the herbs that she grew in our classroom. On the top of her round head, Ms. Nuraini always wore a colorful headscarf with an intriguing design. This, plus her warm smile, brightened the lessons in her classroom. However, the best part of her face was her kind eyes that said to her students, ”I care deeply about you.” Ms. Nuraini usually wore bright long sleeve blouse that went well with her coffee-color skin. She did not wear much jewelry, just a simple Casio watch on her left hand and a ruby red ring on the ring finger of her right hand. The other ‘decoration’ on her hand came from types of ink from whiteboard markers and other sources. On most days, Ms. Nuraini wore loose-fitting pants. Finally, on her feet, she often had brown closed-toe shoes with just a slightly raised heel that made a peculiar ‘clip-clop’ sound as she walked. These low-heeled shoes made it easy for Ms. Nuraini to walk briskly around the classroom to help us when we were doing group activities. I can still feel her friendly touch on my shoulder as she stood listening carefully to our group or explaining something that none of us could figure out.

My favorite teacher Essay by kelly18gold, College, Undergraduate, September 2007 download word file, 1 pages ( 1 KB ) 3.7 1 reviews Downloaded 40 times Keywords confidence, cats, inspiration, voices, brakes 0Like 0Tweet My favorite high school teacher was Mrs. Kappes. She was my music teacher and the leader of our choir, in which I was a member during high school in Germany. Mrs. Kappes was a little, thin woman with black, short hair. She was a great teacher, because she didn´t play favorites, believed in all of us and was a musical genius. First, Mrs. Kappes had always interesting and creative topics for her music class. And when a topic was kind of boring she had every time an idea to make it fun. We worked in groups in class or at her place. We studied for musicals (like Cats, Phantom of the Opera,

My Fair Lady) and every one of us had a part to act and sing. When we finished studying our parts, we had a "creative evening", where all our families, friends and teachers came and watched our play. Secondly, Mrs. Kappes believed in our musical talents. She invested her free time for giving singing lessons after school or during our brakes. She taught us to be self confident with our voices and how to use different techniques to improve our singing skills. She told us every week, that we all have great talent and it felt really good, that she had such a confidence in our musical abilities. Finally, I can say that Mrs. Kappes was the best teacher and she really cared about us. She helped every one in her class to improve our voices and be more self confident on stage. Also she taught us techniques, so that we were able to train at home alone. She was the person, who inspired me to make a singing education. I really hope, that there are other teachers like her, who are a inspiration for students and their...

Cheerful Kecak Dance Kecak (pronounced [?ket?ak]) is a form of Balinese music drama, originated in the 1930s and is performed primarily by men. Also known as the Ramayana Monkey Chant, the piece, performed by a circle of 100 or more performers wearing checked cloth around their waists, percussively chanting "cak" and throwing up their arms, depicts a battle from the Ramayana where the monkey-like Vanara helped Prince Rama fight the evil King Ravana. However, Kecak has roots in sanghyang, a trance-inducing exorcism dance. Kecak was originally a trance ritual accompanied by male chorus. German painter and musician Walter Spies became deeply interested in the ritual while living in Bali in the 1930s and worked to recreate it into a drama, based on the Hindu Ramayana and including dance, intended to be presented to Western tourist audiences. This transformation is an example of what James Clifford describes as part of the "modern art-culture system" in which, "the West or the central power adopts, transforms, and consumes non-Western or peripheral cultural elements, while making 'art' which was once embedded in the culture as a whole, into a separate entity."Spies worked with Wayan Limbak and Limbak popularized the dance by traveling throughout the world with Balinese performance groups. These travels have helped to make the Kecak famous throughout the world.

Performer, choreographer, and scholar I Wayan Dibia cites a contrasting theory that the Balinese where already developing the form when Spies arrived on the island. For example, well-known dancer I Limbak had incorporated Baris movements into the cak leader role during the 1920s. "Spies liked this innovation," and it suggested that Limbak, "devise a spectacle based on the Ramayana," accompanied by cak chorus rather than gamelan, as would have been usual. 17. The way of descriptive text in showing thing is based on the objective fact of the thing. It describes the specific thing simply as the thing is.

The Differences between Report Text and Descriptive Text Some text types are quite difficult to differ. Such report and descriptive text have the similarity in the social function and generic structure. However if they are analyzed carefully, the slight difference between the two text types will reveal. The purposes of the two texts are to give the live-description of the object/participant. Both the report and descriptive text try to show rather than tell the reader about the factual condition of the object. Readers by themselves will catch the impressive point of the object through that showing writing style. What makes different, between report and descriptive text is the scope of the written object. If we talk about, e.g.: bicycle, it belongs to report text. It will talk about bicycle in general; its parts, physical strength, function for certain people or other general characters of bike. In the other hand, descriptive text will convey more focus, for example "my bicycle" with its specific characters; color, length, wheel style, etc. In short, report text describes the way of certain things and frequently refer to phenomenon of nature, animal and scientific object. Descriptive Essay - A Mountain Resort Rate This Paper: 1 2 3 4 5

Length: 404 words (1.2 double-spaced pages) Rating: Red (FREE) ---------------------------------Mountain Resort For those who like winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, we have just the perfect place- the remote yet very popular mountain resort called Balea Lake. It is situated at an altitude of 2,034m, being the highest mountain resort of Romania. The cliffs are covered with snow from November till late July, sometimes still persisting till the new one arrives. First, you have to reach Balea Waterfall, and only afterwards try to get to the lake. Late spring is the best time to come- you take the main road and you’re disappointed cause you see no sign of snow and you think you have come such a long way for nothing. But you keep driving, hoping to find that wonderful place where you can ski or

snowboard in T-shirt only, without worrying you’ll catch another cold and hoping to meet some of the friends you haven’t seen for the past month or more. The road makes a big turn and suddenly you see what you’ve been waiting for: the big mountains are still covered with snow. So everyone is happy and anxious to finally arrive up there. The area is fantastic for the best skiers and boarders and it offers excellent routes for freeride. The resort has only two chalets, each one situated on one side of the lake. There are many tow-days contests taking place here. The participants are from many different countries and they come here to have fun and do what they like and know best: extreme ski and snowboard. Snowboard is relatively a new extreme sport in Romania, but there already are many kids who practice it. Parties where everyone is having a good time and creating a friendly atmosphere, one would say specific to this place follow the contests. The party lasts till late in the night, when a peaceful silence covers the mountains. But the calm doesn’t last too long. Tired, but woken by the lukewarm rays of sun, the riders begin the new day with some tricks and jumps on the quarterpipe taking advantage of the snow as much as possible. This is the place where my friends and I spend a great deal of our leisure time. The atmosphere is very cozy-going and friendly. The calm and splendor of the mountains helps me relax and offers me the chance of escaping the every day routine and problems by doing what I like best: snowboarding.

My Grandmother’s House

No Works Cited Length: 496 words (1.4 double-spaced pages)

Rating: Yellow Price: $14.95 $9.95 ---------------------------------My most favorite place has always been my grandmother’s house. This is the place I would have to go to before and after school. I have always loved my grandmother’s house because it made me feel safe and warm. There was a smell of coffee in the air at all times. It seemed like all my grandmother did was make coffee. If I smell coffee, I instantly think of my grandmother’s house. My grandmother’s house was always filled with people. I can remember sitting in a chair watching her do hair. She would take a hot comb and straighten her clients’ hair. The smell of burning hair would linger in the house for days. The house was old. My grandmother lived in it most of her life. The house was white with black trimming, but most of the paint was...

My Husband No Works Cited Length: 500 words (1.4 double-spaced pages) Rating: Yellow Price: $14.95 $9.95 ---------------------------------I have met many people so far in this life, but the person I enjoy remembering the most is my husband Jeff. He was born and raised in Tennessee. He is six feet tall, weighs two hundred sixty seven pounds,he has dark brown eyes, and such a nice smile. His hair is jet black with just a few silver and white strands throughout. He is a very big and strong character of a man. And yet he is the most gentle, kind and caring man that I have ever met. Jeff has a sexy southern drawl to his voice. The one person who has influenced my life greatly is my husband, the first reason being because of his positive attitude, his intelligence, and the way he expresses his love. Jeff is a person who can be friends with anyone. He is always in a good mood, even when he is feeling horribly ill him...

The Football Game Rate This Paper: 1 2 3 4 5

Length: 489 words (1.4 double-spaced pages) Rating: Red (FREE) ---------------------------------One one thousand. The stands are filled with men, women, and children waving their hands and homemade signs. The cheers coming from the crowd make it hard for me to hear. I smell the hot dogs, popcorn, and pizza being sold at the concession stand. The marching band has just left the field with the tuba player’s last note still ringing in my ear. In the fourth quarter with us in the lead by five the scoreboard shows six seconds. The coach yells, “It’s time to go”! I strap on my helmet with great enthusiasm and head towards the field to take my position.

Two one thousand, three one thousand. Their quarterback quickly shouts out a play. I think to myself “Are my pads secure?” My thoughts quickly turn back to the game as I look up just in time to see two hundred and fifty pounds of blue and white running toward me at full speed. As the sweat rolls down my face my eyes start to burn. My legs suddenly grow weak with fatigue. My hands start to shake as I start to run towards my opponent. I feel a sudden breeze. I start to gag on my mouthpiece. I look up, but all I can see is a glare from the sun, which begins to blind me. Four one thousand, five one thousand. My bones start to crack. I suddenly realized that I have been hit, and hit hard. I’m now lying on the ground thinking to myself “What happened?” I taste a thick substance and quickly realize that my lip was bleeding. Now I’m in so much pain, my bones ache as I start to get a headache. I hear a whistle and see my opponent standing over me. His sweat starts to drop down from his face to mine. I’m thinking to myself “What went wrong”? I feel the mud on my hands as I slowly start to come back to the rest of the world. I hear the crowd roar. What is going on? Who has won the game? Is it over? I turn my head a little to the left to see the scoreboard. They’ve won by one, and we’ve lost. Six one thousand. Crowds heading for the exit. Staring at the field covered with empty cups and trash left behind by careless children, I notice that everyone is starting to leave. Parents congratulating their sons, others are being comforted, siblings laughing. I’m overcome with disappointment. I’ve realized that the reason we’ve lost was because of me. I lay there thinking “Its all my fault, its all my fault”. My adversary had pummeled me to the ground, which left an open gap for the running back. I didn’t even see him coming. He was like a mad cheetah on the verge of killing. He must have slipped right passed me. Depression, frustration, regret. Anticipation for the next game.
