until he suffered a personal tragedy. That’s when he turned to food. When we met him, he was essentially imprisoned in his own home and hadn’t left his bed for six months. He was really on the point of giving up. Anyway, with our our team of experts urging urging him on, he succeeded in losing almost half his body weight. It really is a touching story. discipline, but which he’s continuing to lose weight so far, is fantastic. Presenter Is there there anyone anyone in this this series series who who hasn’t managed to achieve their goal? Tom Well, at some some point point it might happen, but up until now, no. I guess as long as there’s t here’s a film crew following you around, there’s extra pressure not to give up! We did have a woman who came pretty close, though. She was a complete hoarder and never threw anything away. She felt abandoned by her family, whereas in reality there was no room for them to come and visit. In her hallway there was nothing but stacks of newspapers right up to the ceiling. 10 F Audio Script Presenter Well, joining You us today is is the host of the new TV series, get out what you put in, Tom Monkton. Tom, I’ve heard that you’re dealing with people’s personal demons on this show.
Presenter Wow, that’s a lot of clutter. clutter. Why didn’t she just bin it? Tom That’s what I thought thought before before making making the show. The point is, in her case anyway, no matter what she tries to throw away, there’s a real fear that she’s going to need it at some point in the future. Hoarding is often a sign of extreme perfectionism perfectionism which includes a fear of making mistakes.
Tom Yes, that’s right. It’s about about people who’ve dug in their heels and refused to accept their current situation in life because in a lot of cases it has led to depression, addiction and even disability. Despite this, they’ve taken on the challenge to overcome these obstacles and become more optimistic by the end. Most people, including includin g myself, can really relate to this.
Presenter That must be a real burden.
Presenter So what sort of things things are you dealing with?

I’ve seen a few shows in the past that almost treated these people as freaks. With every person we meet in this series, there’s more to their situation than meets the eye, more than t han the particular issue they are trying to cope with. Presenter It starts starts next Tuesday, doesn’t it? Tom Yeah, that’s right – next Tuesday at
