Introduction There are different types of article masters that one can create in FMS. Previously we discussed the creation of Generic Article Master in FMS – Click here. In this document we will take a look at how we can create a Structured Article. There are different types of structured articles – Sales sets, Displays and Prepacks which can be used for different business scenarios based on whether they are purchased, sold and kept in inventory together or not. The common factor making it a structured article is that they are made up of a number components. So inherently they will have a Bill of Material which shows the quantities of the components they are made up of.
Configuration Guide The following configuration needs to be in place to specify the behavior of the Structure article type for each process.
1. Structured Article Maintenance IMG Path:
2
Make sure the BOM usage and Item Categories are specified for the type of Structured article you are trying to use.
2. Structured Article in Logistic Process This needs to be defined to specify how the BOM explode for each scenario. For Purchasing select Work Area 100 and Warehouse select Work Area 200. IMG Path:
3
This can be specified at a high level of Site category for each Structured article type or at a specific sales org/dist channel/site combination or specific aticle itself. By setting 1 or 0 at the Sp Type Strc you specify whether the BOM explodes or not. For example the first entry here would mean that for Sales Sets you want the BOM to explode for purchasing.
Master Data The following master data to be set up first for the subcontracting scenario to work.
1. Create Structured Article Transaction: MM41
Article Category should be a Structured Article. (10, 11 or 12)
4
For the purpose of this document we will be creating a Prepack but please note that the screens and behavior of each Structured article type is different. Click on the Components button on the bottom of Basic Data screen.
5
Provide the Generic article which will be the components and Quantity for each component.
Enter the other attributes for the article and Save.
Transactional Data 1. Create the Purchase Order Transaction: ME21N In this step we will be creating the Purchase order to be sent to the vendor Note – You only need to enter the Structured article number and it will automatically derive the component of the prepacks with the quantities as new line items on the purchase order.
