G.K General Knowledge 21 April 2013 paper analysis 

As usual, GA section was broadly made up of three parts: Static, Science and Crap.

The message / lesson is clear: when it comes to the GA portion of SSC, don‟t waste time chasing trivial current affairs. Because static (polity, history etc.) and science, is where your focus should be.

In the SSC exams, new players tend to pay too much attention to the „crap‟ part. They keep buying books and magazines all the time as if there is nothing else to prepare except current-affairs.

But you must keep in mind that the Cost-benefit ratio is not really great for crap questions = “no. of data entries to be mugged up vs probability of getting a question vs probability of recalling the correct answer in actual exam.”

I‟m not saying ignore current affairs, all I‟m saying is, “don‟t invest too much time and energy in them”.

On the other hand, If you look at “bigger picture”, almost 80% of General awareness questions come from Static + Science portion alone. Hence they should form the priority.

Reasoning ANALYSIS 21 April 2013 

Compared to earlier years, SSC increased the number of non-verbal questions.

Sitting arrangement (case containing 3-5 question) =absent.

Otherwise question pattern/difficulty level similar to previous years.

Analysis 2010/2011/2012

Logical Reasoning portion doesn‟t have much theory/formulas as such, except for Syllogism, clock-Calendars, Permutation combinations etc. so the only way to master Reasoning= via maximum practice at home.

Here comes the problem: You‟ve to face Reasoning/General Intelligence only at the tier-I stage. (50Q) But In tier II: there is no reasoning, but only Maths +English. Besides, you don‟t have to tick 200/200 questions in tier-I, to pass the exam.

So, you should have some sort of strategy about how much time and energy should be invested in Logical Reasoning portion. (like in General Awareness , the priority order was Static>>Science>>Crap.)

Analysis 2010/2011/2012/2013 (CGL-Tier-1) You can easily find the no. of question has been increased from 2012 in DI and the level of question in trignometry and geometry has been raised. Also, question from algebra, work and time ,Numbers are bit tricky so I personaly recommend to have lot of practice before sitting for exam.

The SSC exams, the English questions usually come in the multiple of “fives” e.g. 5 question on synonyms, then 5 on antonyms and so on. (tier 1)

Similarly in tier-ii, 10 questions on fill in the blanks, 20 questions on active passive and so on.

Please do not live in overconfidence that “SSC is a “pappu” exam and I‟m a master of English. so I don‟t need to prepare anything for vocabulary or grammar.“

If you observe the previous SSC papers particularly the tier-II papers of English, the vocabulary portion is not “pappu” at times, they ask meaning of words that are not used in the day to day English.

Similarly, a lot of things that we say and write in English in our day-to-day life, are not grammatically correct. So you may not be able to tick the right choice in sentence correct/ improvement question.
