SCOPE
This code of practice covers the minimum recommended design length and spacing for welded nozzles or connections to carbon steel pipelines and piping systems within ADMA-OPCO Onshore (Das) and Offshore facilities. However, if any of the attachments or welded nozzels/connections cannot be carried out as recommended herein, such cases should be referred to Quality Assurance Department to recommend a course of action. 2.
DEFINITIONS 2.1
Category "A" & Category "B" Services The definitions stipulated in ADMA-OPCO CP-111 shall apply.
2.2
Spacing (Proximity) of Welds The minimum design distance between the joints/toes which provide adequate access for the deposition of weld metal and minimise the need for post weld heat treatment.
3.
DESIGN & INSTALLATION The design of welded nozzles/connections shall be such as to provide adequate access for the deposition of weld metal and the application of any post-weld heat treatment to meet the applicable code requirements (if required). Problem cases which may arise from these welded nozzles/connections should be treated as follows:3.1
Attachments of Non-Pressure Parts Attachment of non pressure parts by weld shall be carried out as illustrated in Fig. 3.1. Attachments not complying with the requirements stipulated therein should be avoided.

TO CONTENTS
3.2
Branch to Circumferential & Longitudinal Seam Weld Spacing The spacing (S&S1) between the toes of any branch and circumferential welds or longitudinal welds, should be 75mm (3") minimum. See Fig. 3.2.
3.3
Spacing of Circumferential Welds The toes of adjacent butt welds shall be installed as follows: a.
Category 'A' Service 'S' should be equal to one D or 150mm (6") whichever is greater, where D is the Nominal Pipe Size. See Fig. 3.3.
b.
Category 'B' Service 'S' should not be less than 4t where t is the pipe wall thickness. See Fig. 3.3.
c.
Pup Piece for Hyperbaric Welding A pup piece equal to one D or 150 mm (6") whichever is greater, where D is the Nominal Pipe Size. See Fig. 3.3.
3.4
Alignment of Longitudinal and Spiral Seams Welded seams in adjacent lengths of pipeline/ piping shall be offset by a minimum of 15° for longitudinal seams and a minimum of 90ø for spiral seams. These seams shall be positioned in the top half of pipe circumference. See Fig. 3.4 a & b.
3.5
Segmental Bends (Miter Joint) The minimum separation "S" between welds shall be the greater of 50mm (2") or 6 x pipe wall thickness. See Fig. 3.5.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1
All nozzles configurations should be checked for compliance with the applicable design code requirements. If a conflection arises between the requirement stipulated herein and the design code requirement the latter should overrule.
4.2
It is preferred that multiple branch openings of in-line nozzles be spaced so that their re-inforcement zone do not overlap. If closer spacing is necessary, the reinforcement requirements of the applicable construction code shall be met.
4.3
Where attachments such as flanges, fittings, valves and pipe insulation are involved, minimum dimensions tabulated may have to be increased to allow for required clearances.
4.4
In special design cases, it may be possible to increase/reduce the dimensions given in the tabulation herein. Such cases should be submitted to the ED/QAD for individual consideration.
