Course Objectives: This course provides students with an introduction to Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) and their use in an increasingly competitive business world. As future managers, you need to be equipped to make decisions concerning the planning, development and implementation of information technology resources to increase organizational effectiveness and create a strategic advantage. The course accomplishes this by: • Introducing basic concepts of IS and IT and exploring how technology can be used to create business value. • Examining the potential benefits and limitations of IT and providing an overview of the components of computers. • Increasing awareness of managerial issues raised by the use of IT. • Providing “hands on” exercises to practice course m aterial. • Providing a foundation needed for subsequent MIS coursework. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY: • Plagiarism of any degree will not be tolerated. He/she will be strictly dealt with as per IUB rules and regulations if found guilty. • No makeup test will be followed for the Midterm and final exam. • Class test/quizzes can be both on announced or unannounced. •
Any attempt to copy during the Class tests/quizzes/examinations will lead to either substantial deduction of marks or cancellation of scripts.

Regular attendances, preparation, class participation must help to get better grade. Because most of the questions will be asked from class discussions.
•
Assignments/ Reports have to be submitted within the specified deadline. In late submission obtained marks will be deducted.
•
The instructor reserves all the rights to make necessary changes in the course or in the regulation depending on the betterment/ progress of the class/course.
INCOMPLETE (‘I’) GRADE: Awarding of Incomplete or ‘I’ grades should be stro ngly discouraged. ‘I’ will only be allowed for students who have a valid reason (ascertained by the senior management). In situations where the student is unable to complete the course due to unanticipated illness or family emergency and has not attended at least 75% of the classes held, he / she will be asked to withdraw from that course and repeat it. In unavoidable circumstances where students have completed 75% of the classes but are unable to continue (due to illness or family emergency), incomplete grade of ‘I’ may be granted. Incomplete course has to be completed by the next semester, otherwise grade ‘I’ automatically becomes grade ‘F’. The student is not required to register for the course in the next semester.

WITHDRAWAL (‘W’): A ‘W’ grade means withdrawal. A student may decide to withdraw from a course by the deadline. Students must apply to the Program Office for withdrawal from a course with the permission of the concerned course instructor, Academic Advisor, and the Dean. Withdrawal from only one course in a semester is allowed but the students should provide valid reason along with documents while applying for the withdrawal. CHANGES OF GRADE: Change of grade is strongly discouraged. However, an instructor may request a change of grade when a computational or procedural error occurred in the original assignment of a grade. Instructor must submit the ‘Grade Change Form’ to the respective program office within one month of submitting the final grade roll. PEDAGOGY Teaching pedagogy to be followed by the instructor should be mentioned in the course outline. Recommended techniques include, but not limited to, lectures, video clips, problem solving, case study, presentation, field trip, guest lecture, etc. BLACKBOARD: In addition to class teaching, lecture PowerPoint, announcements and other information should be placed on the blackboard page. Students should be advised to check the course blackboard page and download the required materials from MY SB: Log on to MY SB > http://103.254.86.4/sb/course/view.php?id=124 AUTOMATIC WITHDRAWAL: A student can miss a maximum of 8 classes for a particular course.
