Corsica is located 105 miles from the south of continental France and 55 miles west of Italy. The northern coast of Sardinia is just 7.5 miles south from Corsica. Corsica is a mountain range in the Mediterranean ocean. The island is only 114 miles long from top to bottom and 52 miles at its widest point, roughly the size of Puerto Rico. To compare, more than 4000000 hbts in Puerto Rico, only 306000 in Corsica. A Drive through the interior in the middle of typical vegetation called „macchia‟, will offer you some of the images of Corsica: deep green macchia, huge granite rocks, proud houses and narrow mountain roads. Sartène, set high on the ridge is a medieval fortified town of narrow, cobble stoned streets and austere, grey granite houses, perched magnificently in the mountains. Located near the coast, Sartène was therefore vulnerable to invaders and regularly attacked by pirates in the Middle Ages and from the 12th to 16th century witnessed the ferocious local feudal Lords who preferred to implement justice themselves without the interference of the island‟s rulers. Your guide will show you around the Piazza Porta and the Ste Anne district and tell you about the town‟s reputation and its vendettas. Discover the Church Ste Marie which houses the cross and chains carried by the penitent during the „Catenacciu‟, the famous Good Friday procession. Filitosa As well as giving you a glimpse into the amazing scenery Corsica has to propose, this excursion will give you the opportunity to discover the prehistoric feature of the island with the mysterious Filitosa’s statue-menhirs and stone made structures. Filitosa is set in the countryside in a meadow surrounded by olive trees and patches of wild mint. It is the home to Corsica’s most important collection of menhirs and it seems that nothing has changed since their creation. Little is known about the people who inhabited the spot which adds to the mystery of the site itself which was discovered in 1948. It is believed that invading missionary navigators were the creators of the first menhirs towards 3500BC. Among the granite boulders and the ancient olive trees stands these mysterious stoned carved with human features making them quite distinct from nearly all other European menhirs of the megalithic period. Most archaeologists believe that the mysterious stone carved statues were memorials to dead chieftains and warriors, some other believe they are portraits of enemy Torréeans. During your stop you may visit the small museum containing pottery and other finds unearthed in the course of the excavations. Drive back toward the coast passing Arbellara and Spina Cavallu a highly photogenic Genoese bridge spanning the Rizzanese River, before returning to Propriano.

Bavella & Zonza Leave the fine natural harbour of Propriano and wind inland from the Valinco Gulf along the Rizzanese River. You will see the varied geography of the Alta Rocca region, with its deciduous woods and deep valleys dominated by the Monte Incudine, the highest peak in Southern Corsica. On the way learn about Corsican history and traditions, in particular about the local pastoralism. You will reach Sainte Lucie de Tallano, a charming corsican village perched between the pine forest and the local maquis with its granite houses and terra cotta roofs. Settled since Pre-Roman times, it was the favorite stronghold of the pious art-loving Count Rinuccio della Rocca, allied with Genoa he was also the very last of the Cinarchesi lords. Pass Levie, the village was in the 18th century with its fertile riverine countryside was the capital of Alta Rocca and home of some prosperous Genoese families.
