Description

CONDUCTING BASICS • The Conductor should lead the group-not follow the group • Keep eye contact with the group • The Conductor should be prepared to conduct the music score – be familiar with all parts, and know how to get it to performance level • Conduct patterns with your right hand-use your wrist- not “straight arm”with or without the use of a Conducting Baton • Cue instruments, entrances, solos, rhythms, rhythmic figures, with both hands, body language, facial expressions and gestures • Dynamics, articulations (staccato, slurs etc.), expression and music styles should be indicated by the size and motions of the conducting pattern • Beat ONE is the most important beat for a conductor to communicate to a group-indicated by a down beat • Make your patterns, cues, expression, dynamics, cut-offs, etc. very clear • Cut-Off- or-stop is usually indicated/motioned by making a ‘C’ • Don’t “Mirror Conduct”-Right and Left patterns go in opposite directions
