POSITION: Completions and Well Integrity Engineer

Sunshine Oilsands Ltd. is a Calgary based “public” company, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since March 1, 2012 and the Toronto Stock Exchange since November 16, 2012. Sunshine is focused on the development of its significant holdings of oil sands leases in the Athabasca oil sands region. The company owns and controls 100% of 467,969 hectares of oil sands leases. This is a full time, permanent position based out of Sunshine Oilsands Ltd.’s main office in Calgary, AB. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Sunshine is currently constructing the first phase of commercial SAGD development, with two additional projects in the engineering design and regulatory approval process. The incumbent will report to the Manager, Subsurface Engineering, and will work within a multidisciplinary team, that is focused on executing Sunshine’s growth strategy, in thermal operations. This is a senior technical role within the Subsurface engineering team, working as part of a multidisciplinary organization including Geology, Reservoir and Development, and Asset Managers, as well as Drilling, Facilities and Operations.     

Conduct detailed completion designs focusing on tubing/connections, instrumentation requirements, artificial lift designs and selection, well head design and welding procedures; Maintain high quality planning, operating practices and technical design for vertical, deviated & horizontal wells; Conduct routine research and developments for new technologies in the industry and recommend/apply to drilling and completions designs; Generate and coordinate completions and workover programs, for the installation of tubular, instrumentation & artificial lift equipment; Assist in the generation of D&C programs and stick diagrams, as needed. Assist in CWOP (complete well on paper) and DWOP (drill a well on paper);

Assist detailed drilling engineering & well design preparation for Delineation and SAGD horizontal wells, focusing on directional design, casing bowl design, casing and design, cutting transport, and hole cleaning design, wellbore integrity and cement bond quality control; Generate and monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) throughout programs, in order to improve efficiency and reduce cost. Prepare cost estimates for AFE purposes and monitoring cost performance. Assist in forecasting and daily cash burns; Communicate with field personnel to maintain project efficiencies and ensure regulatory compliance requirements are met. Assist with after hours calls from D&C operations, for any drilling programs, as requested; Assist with ERCB information and submissions, as needed, for required waivers, supporting documentation and audits; Provide technical specification criteria for procurement packages, review tendering, evaluating and contract processes. Provide recommendations for awarding work; Collaborate with the production engineers to maximize the value from a well life cycle perspective. Work with multi-disciplinary teams (G&G, hydrogeology, reservoir, D&C, facilities, operations & regulatory); Work closely with the asset teams to meet schedules; Identify training and development needs to improve efficiency; Make periodic field trips to review well activities on site and suppliers technical presentations; Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SET:          

Undergraduate degree in engineering and APEGA professional engineer accreditation; Highly organized with excellent analytical, integration and project management abilities; Excellent communication, interpersonal and team focused skills; Results oriented, decisive and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail; Strong knowledge of thermal reservoir production and development strategies; Previous exposure to field operations is preferred; Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry recommended practices and well control procedures; Excellent computer skills, Excel, Word, Power point, Peloton, XI technologies, GeoScout (or equivalent); 5+ years experience in D&C engineering; Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
