INTRODUCTION

First of all, I want to congratulate Craig on once again devising something so deceptive that it will fit right into the working repertoire of any working professional. I think what you need to remember, as with everything he has created, is that this is not just one routine, these are a utility which you can use to display a range of miracles depending on your style and the situation in which you are performing. Color Match is probably the most diverse prop Craig has created as the objects are all incredibly innocent, instantly recognizable and can be fully inspected by all audience members. While I could sit here all day and describe how good I think they are, what I’d much rather do is get straight in to teaching you just some of the wonderful things I’ve already found you can perform with Color Match. I’ve tried to create a range of different routines here to ensure that you will find something that suits you right away. Once you have the routine which suits you, I then encourage you to get straight out and perform it as much as you can. PERFECT KUROTSUKE by Colin Mcleod

Effect: A bag full of pens are shown to the audience and you explain that different people are attracted to different colors for very different reasons. You hand the bag out to any audience member and you ask him to turn his back to you, take out any pen and put a small dot of that color on his hand. He then puts the pen back in the bag, mixes up the pens, makes a fist and passes the bag on to someone else. This process is repeated until four or five people each have a different colored dot on their hands. You explain the odds of knowing all the colors are five times five times five... which with five people is just over one in three thousand. Regardless, you are immediately able to reveal the exact color of dot each individual has draw on their hand. Method: This is possibly the simplest use for the pens allowing you to focus purely on your presentation and your ability to read the cue from the receiver. Quite simply, when each pen is removed from the bag, you will have plenty of time to get a reading as they draw a dot on their hand and then put the pen back in the bag. Should you require more time, you can also have them mix the pens around and bear in mind they will also need to pass the bag to someone else.

You want to make sure that each person ensures they keep a tight fist once they have drawn their dot as you don’t want anyone else to see what color they have chosen. The beauty is that they can each hold their hand aloft, clearly showing everyone else the color they have chosen. It’s crucial you build the impossibility of the effect because the more people you use, the more the odds of getting each person’s color will go against you. How do you remember each person’s color? You have a few options for this. If you use mnemonics, you can memorize them easily in sequence, or to make the effect really easy to perform, you could use a note pad and through the act of ‘reading’ each person, you apparently make some notes on them. All you are really writing is the color they have chosen. Also keep in mind, this routine would also be perfect for close up.

ESP MATCH UP by Colin Mcleod

Effect: You lay 5 cards face down on the table. In front of the spectator, you lay down 5 blank billets. You give them a bag full of pens and you ask them to remove one of the pens secretly under the table. Before you know which pen they have removed, you tell them they are going to draw a circle. You then point to a random billet and you allow them a moment to draw their shape. You repeat this by having them draw a cross, wavy lines, square and star. You remind them that they chose a pen, the shapes were named at random and they were drawing the pictures in a random mixed up order on the billets. THEY now turn over your 5 face down cards. Every single shape matches perfectly. Not only are they in the correct order, they colors of the shapes also completely match. Method: This routine is incredibly simple to perform. Not only that, it seems like you’re trying to help make the process as fair and as random as possible. All you will need for this routine, aside from your pens, is a stack of blank index cards. On your cards, draw the five shapes in five different colors. I recommend:

1- Red- Circle 2- Blue- Cross 3- Green- Waves 4- Yellow- Square 5- Black- Star This 1,2,3,4,5 sequence is now incredible easy to remember. When you perform the routine, begin by laying your cards out in this order. You will now lay the five blank cards out in front of your spectator. They take the bag under the table and you request that they remove any colored pen from the bag, but not bring it out just yet. This is the bold and devious part! You will now know which pen color has been removed. You are now simply going to tell your spectator what shape to draw. You are also going to tell them where to draw it! This is cleverly disguised through the structure of the routine. As soon as you know which pen it is, you immediately tell them which shape it is that they are going to draw. “So you are now thinking of a shape drawn in a specific color, which I couldn’t possibly know; focus on that and draw it, oh... here...” This statement is spoken in a very disarming way. They have taken the pen and know the color, you now seem to pluck a random shape out of the air. But before you tell them where to draw it, you need to get them thinking of the entire image. This is why you make a point of telling them to imagine that shape in that color. This does two things. First of all, it will create the false memory that they thought of a shape and a color for themselves and also it is the required time misdirection to allow you to not only tell them what shape to think of, but also where they are to draw it. In reality, if you think about the effect, you are telling them what to draw and where to draw it, really all that you are predicting is the color. However by giving them a number of things to focus on, the effect becomes easily misremembered After the mentioned time misdirection you will now seem to randomly choose a billet for them to draw on. By telling them that they are now thinking of something which you couldn’t possibly know, it allows you to openly tell them where you want them to draw their ‘completely secret’ thought.

This process is repeated with all the respective pens to their shapes and their billets. This is very simple to do as all you really have to remember is that the number of buzzes you receive tells you which billet they are to draw on, either 1,2,3,4 or 5, and also due to the structure of ESP shapes: The circle has 1 line. The cross has 2 lines. The waves has 3 lines. The Square has 4 lines. The Star has 5 lines. Therefore, it is incredible easy to recall the information you need and after rehearsing this a few times by taking the pens out behind your back, you will get a knack for very quickly working out what shape it is and where exactly it will need to be drawn. The spectators billets could equally be replaced by them drawing the shapes on their napkin at their table.

PREDICTED GRAPHOLOGY by Colin Mcleod

Effect: You explain that our handwriting can reveal a lot about our personality. You offer to demonstrate what you mean. You ask someone for their name and you get them to first of all, turn away and select the color of pen they feel most drawn to. Before they show your their choice you remove a business card of yours and you ask them to write their first and last name on your card. Not only are you able to give them an accurate reading based entirely on their name, you also explain that your ability to read people goes beyond just analyzing handwriting. You can also tell a lot about a person from the way they tell you their name (like when you asked them at the start). You explain that due to their voice being a direct and engaging voice, it also has a playful twist to it. So you knew that would be someone who would pick the red pen. You ask them to turn over the billet they’ve been writing on and it boldly states “You’re the sort of person to pick the red pen” Method: This routine will require you to have a number of outs depending on which pen you decide to use. For every color pen you will require a business card which says on the back of it... “You’re the sort of person to pick the red pen” “You’re the sort of person to pick the blue pen” “You’re the sort of person to pick the green pen”

“You’re the sort of person to pick the yellow pen” “You’re the sort of person to pick the black pen” Quite simply, once your spectator has selected their pen, you will hand them the business card relevant to their color. You make a point of not looking at what they pick to begin with as you simply say it will make more sense later. You will now give a reading on their name. While there are many books on the subject, a few things to look at are: How big their name is: Capital Letters: Joined Up Letters: Pressure of the Pen: Slanted Forward: Slanted Backwards Obviously you can elaborate on their name using the Ken De Courcy system. Regardless of how much you wish to reveal about the person, you can conclude by showing that you were able to determine their character right from the very beginning, that’s why before you turned around, you handed them a specific card. They turn it over and their choice of pen is revealed. As an extra thought, if you do not wish to have an index of cards, simply write down... “You’re the sort of person to pick the .......... pen” Before you turn around, simply write in the correct color using another pen before you hand them the card.

SEEING WITH YOUR FINGER TIPS by Colin Mcleod

Effect: A spectator is given a notepad and a tub full of different colored pens. You explain to your audience there is a technique psychics use giving you the ability to see with your finger tips. You explain that you’ve studied their work and you feel you’ve now developed your own skills to recreate this gift. The spectator is asked to take any color and scribble a few lines on the page. While this is happening you are turned away and have no idea what color is taken. While you still look away, the note pad is hidden under your hand and you begin to trace the scribbled lines with your fingers held roughly an inch above the pad. After a moment of concentration, you are able to deduce the color. You explain that there must be at least one person who thinks you have somehow seen it, so you ask for someone else in the audience to come up and cover your eyes. They take a new page in the pad and they scribble any new color. This time, with your eyes covered, the pad is again held beneath your hand and after another moment of concentration, you again correctly name the correct color. By this point, you explain that while psychics master this skill by learning to detect tiny pieces of information, the large pieces are much easier. So this time instead of scribbling a lot of lines, the spectator only puts a tiny dot of ink on the page.

Again your eyes are covered during this entire process. Your fingers are held above the pad and after a moment of only sensing white, from the pad, you eventually find and correctly state the color of the tiny dot. As a conclusion, you can have your spectator write their surname or draw a picture and after a moment of being blindfolded with your fingers above the pad, you correctly state what they drew and the exact color they drew it in Method: While the first three phases are self explanatory, you are simply detecting which color has been removed and naming it after a convincing presentation, the third phase is an impressive extra. There are a few methods I will suggest and you can pick the one which is best for you. As I prefer to work with methods which can be used real time, I will explain your options. Depending on whether you want to divine the surname or the picture, you’ll be using two totally different methods. For the surname reveal at the end, as you ask the spectator to join you on stage, you will be using the Dunninger ploy. The Dunninger ploy is a true classic of Mentalism created by Joseph Dunninger. Ask someone in the audience to stand up where they are and ask them their name. They will obviously tell you! As the spectator joins you on stage and the audience are clapping, you will ask them their name. Naturally, they will tell you their first name again. Simply follow this up by asking them “and what’s your surname”. DO NOT try to hide this, if you act suspicious, they will be reluctant to tell you. Act genuinely interested and they WILL tell you. The situation is now that you know their full name, but the audience don’t know you asked for their surname, they still only think you know their first name. Once the applause has stopped you thank them for joining you on stage and thank them for joining you on stage. At this point keep using just their first name. Later on when you have them write their surname, the audience at large have no idea you know this. When you start to reveal it letter by letter, it will look genuinely stunning. “I’m getting a D and a U and then an N then another N then an I N G followed by and E R... and it’s all written in BLUE, is that right?”

The effect for the person on stage is that you named the correct color. For the audience, not only have you correctly named the color, you’ve also managed to correctly see each letter using only your fingertips. The reason for using their surname is that this is a piece of information which can’t be changed. If you asked them on the way up for the name of their favorite place, not only might they change this, it’s also an odd thing to ask them on the way to the stage. The surname is an acceptable thing to ask off the cuff without arousing suspicion. If you wish to end with the drawing duplication, you need to look to the word of Docc Hilford. He has a wonderful routine called ESPed. This is a wonderful routine where someone can draw anything and you reveal it incredibly cleanly. Here you are taking his basic method, without his wonderful camouflage Using your notepad, you will in total use four pages. So on the fourth page down, you will draw a picture of a car in pencil. When you get to your final phase of your routine, they will open the pad to the next page. In the same way Docc Hilford does, you will ask them to... “Look at the pad, get a drawing in your mind, when you get a drawing in your mind, I want you to see the drawing on the pad, now that you can see the drawing on the pad, I want you to take any pen and trace over what you see there.” This is a wonderful and direct way of cuing your spectator on stage to trace over what you see drawn in pencil on the page. The dual reality here is that you will be revealing what color they have drawn the picture in. To the audience at large you will be able to reveal both the picture and the color it was drawn in. For the full work on this principle, you MUST check out Docc Hilford’s DVDs released by L&L Publishing. They are absolutely wonderful and highly recommended!

STAGE ESP MATCH UP by Colin Mcleod

Effect: Five audience members are on stage, standing beside a table with a cup full of different colored pens. The performer stands at the other end of the stage and gives out five envelopes to be mixed by someone in the audience. The first spectator on stage steps forward, removes any pen from the tub and is given a random envelope. With your back still turned, you tell them which one of the five ESP symbols to draw on the front of their envelope. The envelopes are again mixed and again another spectator on stage steps forward and takes another color. They are again given a random envelope and told which shape to draw on the front of their envelope. This process continues until all five spectators on stage have an envelope with an ESP symbol drawn on it, each in a different colored pen. The envelopes are opened one at a time and there is a printed piece of paper inside containing an exact replica of not only the shape, but the exact color it was drawn in. Method: This routine is similar to the color up routine with ESP symbols, however this one is even easier.

The envelopes you give out to be mixed are marked at the top of the envelope. Simply put a pencil dot in five positions along the top seal so that even when the envelopes have been mixed you can simply look at the tops and you’ll know which envelope is which. Now when a pen is removed, you will get a reading so you will know which color it is. This will then tell you which envelope you’ll need to hand them. Simply match up the number of ‘buzzes’ with the correct envelope. At this point you will simply tell them which ESP shape to draw. Remember, you shouldn’t know which pen has been taken, or which envelope is which. Luckily for your, you know both ;) . You repeat this process three more times, with the last envelope being given to the last person with the last pen and they will simply be given the last shape to draw... perfect.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE? by Colin Mcleod

Effect: A spectator turns away from you and removes the pens from the tub one at a time. Each time they remove a pen you ask them to draw a dot of that color on different fingers. While this is going on, you hold up your hand to the audience so they can see there are specific colors on each of your fingers. After they’ve drawn a color on each finger, they turn around and face you. They show their hand to the audience. Each color perfectly matches the dots on your fingers. The perfect viewed prediction... Method: This is simply a wonderful presentation for the basic method of the pens. You will know which color has been removed due to the receiver cuing you, therefore you will know which color pen has been removed. All you will need to do is tell the spectator which finger you want them to draw the dot on. When they turn around and show their hand, it will match your own hand perfectly. The beauty of the routine is that once the spectator turns away, you can show your hand from the start. The audience will not only remember you showing your hand from the very beginning, they will also remember that your participant on stage had

a truly free choice of which color pen to remove (and they will also probably misremember exactly what happened). They will think that it was up to the participant to decide which finger they drew on. They will forget that you told them. They will forget all of this provided that you play it down; make it sound like you are naming the fingers randomly and haphazardly.

CHAIR TEST by Colin Mcleod

Effect: Four spectators join you on stage. Each is asked to secretly remove a pen from a tub and hold it behind their back. They are then given a small sticker to stick to their forehead. They are now given a white envelope and they are asked to bring the pen out from behind their back and write the color of the pen really big on the front of the envelope. Each person now turns around their envelope and they show that they each have written the color which matches the sticker on their forehead. As a kicker, they open their envelope and inside each of the envelopes is a piece of card the exact same color as their sticker and their pen! Method: The method for this routine is really simple allowing you to fully focus on the presentation. First of all, as with all the pen routines, you will know which pen has been taken by each person. As they take a pen, you simply need to give them the sticker which corresponds to their colored pen. By sticking the sticker to their forehead, they will not see what color it is. This means you can mark each person with the color of pen they have taken without them being aware of it!

You now simply need to take your four envelopes containing the colored card, which are subtly marked on the outside and hand the correct envelope to the correct person. The full routine is now down to the presentation! You play up the fact that they picked any pen and are sitting in any order, so you could have no idea what would happen. They turn around their boards and the colors perfectly match. As the kicker, you simply have them remove the colored card from the envelope and it too will match! This routine is truly straightforward and will absolutely fill the stage!

“THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT!” by Colin Mcleod

Effect: As a closing routine to your show, you offer to show how easy it is to influence someone’s decisions perfectly. Someone is handed a white envelope which has five different numbered lines on it... 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

You hand them a tub of pens and ask them to take out any one. You tell them that on the pen, their is a word written on it. You ask them to write that word at position number 1. They remove another pen and you ask them to change their mind. They take out this new pen and they look at the word written on that pen. They then write that word at position number 2. This continues until there are five words written from the top to the bottom of the envelope.

By the end, the envelope will read: You Thank Good And Night Everyone can clearly see that you tried to make them write “Thank you and Goodnight!” however, it’s obviously gone wrong. At this point, you ask them to return to their seats clearly looking a little disappointed. You turn to your audience and say “Oh well... Thank you and goodnight!”. Slowly, you remove the prediction from the envelope and it matches the order perfectly stating “You Thank Good And Night”. The colors and the words all match. Method: This is again truly straightforward, however there are a few interesting things to consider with this routine. First of all, instead of just matching the colors you match the words. This is because the words are printed and stuck to the pens with which you want them to write. This means that not only do you know which color has been removed, technically you know the word they will write. So now all you need to do is allow yourself to be cued as to which pen/word was taken. For this routine to look convincing, you want them to write the words from the top to the bottom. This is not essential, however when I perform it, this is how I like to do it! That does mean that they are putting pens back a number of times, however I’m willing to put up with this.

You could equally have them remove a pen and when you get the number of ‘buzzes’ then tell them to write on that line. If this more suits your style, this is still perfectly acceptable! The beauty is that the audience will jump ahead trying to work out what you are trying to do. Not only that, they will fool themselves into thinking you have got it wrong. What adds to this is that when you turn around you look disappointed. This will add to the impact of the final reveal when you remove your prediction and the words are in the exact same order. Obviously the fact the words are in a different color will help, however it’s not essential to draw attention to this fact as it will be a subtle convincer that you were correct.

“THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT” Subtlety by Colin Mcleod

Playing with this idea of having something written on the pen, it caused me to play with the following idea. Effect: Someone removes any pen and draws a picture. You are able to perfectly duplicate what he/she drew without turning around. Method: Each pen has a different message written on the side asking them to draw different things. “Colors are massively influential! Different colors make us think different things in the same situations. For example, driving a car. If you are driving and you see a RED light, you stop. You see a GREEN light and you keep going. You see an AMBER light and you speed up so you don’t have to wait at the red light... ...Regardless, colors do control how we think! Let’s try an experiment with this just now! I would like someone to join me on stage. Now please look over the pens, you can see they are all very different colors. They don’t just say ‘BLUE’ they are all very specific colors. They are like something out of a color chart. In fact, take out any pen and now read the side. Put it back and take a different one. Actually, look at all of them. They are all totally different correct?

Good! So now you know they are all different, please take any one of the pens , don’t let me see it and read it again. Now draw your picture on the pad! Hold it up so that no one sees the picture or the color of the pen! That’s very important!!” You now lift another pad and you duplicate their picture perfectly! Method: Again, you are playing with the subtlety of having things written on the pen. To the audience it large, they think the pens simply say the specific color of the pen. Each pen actually has a more specific message... “RED... Draw a HOUSE” Each pen asks you to draw a very different picture. You are naturally giving the participant on stage the opportunity to recognize every pen (which asks you to draw a different picture). The audience at large simply think you are allowing them the chance to read the specific color of the pen as they will cause them to be influenced in different ways... Technically, that’s true in this situation! All the pens are placed back in the tub and when one is chosen, you will know which one it is. As a result, you will know which picture they will be drawing. It’s now simply a case of you duplicating the drawing. The dual reality here is that the spectator on stage will be impressed you know what color they picked. The audience at large will be impressed you not only drew it in the same color but also that you drew the exact same picture.

PSEUDO PSYCHOMETRY by Colin Mcleod

Taking the “Thank You and Goodnight” principle even further, we can apply this thinking to Bruce Bernstein’s fantastic ‘Pseudo Psychometry’ from his book ‘Perception is Everything’. While his routine unfortunately isn’t mine to explain, you will simply have the required messages written on each of the pens. Unlike in the above routines, you will not hide the fact the messages are on the pens, you will draw attention to them. You will however use his fantastic subtleties. By having five pens and only four people, there will naturally be an effect for all four people as you reveal their thoughts... if you know his routine, you will be able to work out exactly how these pens will benefit you here ;) .

REMOTE VIEWING by Colin Mcleod

Effect: A spectator is asked to join you on stage and is given an envelope and a tub of four pens before being asked to stand behind you. You explain that they will be doing four different drawings in the four different corners of the envelope. They remove any pen and you ask them to get ready to draw something in the bottom left square. You then ask everyone in the audience to think of something simple they can draw. You then ask them all to shout out their pictures. “A house? Good choice! Then will you draw a house in the bottom left square!” This is repeated until all four quadrants of the envelope have a different picture drawn in them. At this point, the envelope is opened and the piece of card is removed. All four drawings are drawn in the exact same places in the exact same colors. Method: This routine allows you now to advance with the pens. Essentially you will be using the exact same techniques mentioned throughout this manuscript added to a psychological statistic whilst being completely bold! Once the person on stage removes a pen, this will correspond to a square on the envelope

If the red pen is removed, this means you’ll state a picture will be drawn in the top left square. If the blue pen is removed, you’ll state a picture will be drawn in the top right square. If the green pen is removed, you’ll state a picture will be drawn in the bottom left square. If the yellow pen is removed, you’ll state a picture will be drawn in the bottom right square. With regards to YOUR prediction, you will have a psychological forced drawing, drawn in each of the quadrants. I recommend a House, Stickman, Flower and Car. One- Car (Imagine a race car with the number 1 printed on it) Two- Stickman (Two rhymes with shoe, so imagine a stick man in shoes) Three- Flower (Three rhymes with tree, tree and flower...) Four- House (Four rhymes with door, so imagine the door to a house) Once you’ve stated which square they will be drawing in, you will also know which picture they will draw.

As you ask the audience to shout out a simple drawing, you will find in 99% of situations, someone will shout out the picture you need. Simply wait until you hear someone shout it and ask them to stand. Once they are standing ask them to tell everyone what they are thinking of. Once they’ve called it out ask the person on stage to draw it in the desired square. So what if no one shouts out the picture you need? Simple... lie! I know, shocking isn’t it?! However if everyone is shouting out pictures, for you to simply say “did you say flower? Good lets go with that then!” No one will be any the wiser. Everything is happening so quickly no one will have time to register everything. Regardless, you will have all four quadrants of your envelope filled with the desired pictures in the right color in the correct place. You can now reveal your prediction and everyone will see it matches perfectly.

COLORING IN... by Colin Mcleod

Effect: A spectator is asked to remove any pen and draw something they would normally find in that color. Once they’ve drawn their picture, you are able to correctly reveal what their picture is. Method: Again, this allows you to develop your genuine intuition to work out what they have drawn. You will have a number of things working in your favor By asking someone to draw something SIMPLE they would normally find in their chosen color it will immediately round down the number of things they can actually draw! Red Pen: Sun, Apple, Strawberry, Love Heart... Blue Pen: Ocean/water, The Sky... Green Pen: Apple, grass, tree, grapes... Yellow Pen: Sun, Lemon... You immediately realize there are only so many things you can draw! In the few times to date I have attempted this, these are the only things as of yet I’ve come up against. Obviously as you use this, you will build up a database of things.

This does become a very direct and genuine drawing duplication. You can use a method of pumping and sound reading to work out the exact picture they have drawn. You will see that most pictures for specific colors follow a pattern. Let’s imagine they chose the red pen, you could begin by saying “your picture is fairly round I see, in fact, it covers down at the top, it doesn’t have a stem like thing sticking out of it does it? No... I didn’t think so... this is a love heart correct?” With each color you are being given an opportunity to master you skills deducing the exact picture being thought of. At the very least, if you are truly struggling, you ask your participant to focus on the exact color of their drawing and you will be able to reveal that.

THOUGHT CHUNNELLING by Colin Mcleod

Joshua Quinn released a wonderful technique in his book ‘Paralies’. Again it isn’t mine to reveal, however those who have his book and know this technique will be pleased to find that the pens allow you an amazing starting point. By having someone take any colored pen, lets say the yellow pen, you can then request they “think of a fruit which you would find in that color...” probably a lemon! If they take the green pen ask them to “think of a creature you would find in that color....” frog, lizard or crocodile! You’ll immediately see that these pens will allow you to begin the process in a very straight forward way! Once you’ve read his book and understand his process, you’ll be straight on to performing some of the most direct mind reading routines you can imagine.

SPECTATOR AS MIND READER by Colin Mcleod

Effect: You tell the spectator you are thinking of a circle and you ask them to imagine they can see the shape in their mind. They are then to think of which color they can see the shape being. They take out this colored pen from the tub provided and they draw the shape in the color they think YOU are thinking of. You then tell them “I’m thinking of a Blue circle”. They turn around the pad and everyone sees they are absolutely correct. You ask if they want to take it a step further and you tell them this time you are thinking of a house. They are to draw the house in the color they think you’re thinking of. You also explain that you are imagining the windows being a different colors. “I’m thinking of a GREEN house with RED windows” They turn around the pad and everyone sees they have again correctly read your mind! Method: This routine is purely down to your presentation skills. As with all the pen routines you will be cued as to exactly which pen has been taken.

You are also telling the spectator what ‘shape’ you are thinking of. You are then filling in the blanks by telling them the color once they have drawn it. This becomes misremembered as everyone will assume you simply said you were thinking of a shape and they got the shape and the color. This is the same with the house. You tell them you are thinking of the house, but to everyone else it seems like they are picking up on your exact image. The beauty of the house is that you get to be very specific, they seemingly work out the color of the house and the windows separately. Obviously you are again telling them to draw the house, you are just remembering the color they use, as well as with the windows. You remember both colors so when you say... “I’m thinking of a GREEN house with RED windows...” They turn it around and everyone sees they got it exactly right!

STAR SIGN REVELATION by Colin Mcleod

Effect: You hand a spectator your business card with the drawing of a figure on it. You explain that every star sign is represented in an aura reading in different color patterns. For example if you’re a ‘Leo’ the body would be a red color and then the color around the body would be blue. Every star sign is different; so you give them a chart to work out which color the body of their star sign is and which color the area around their body would need to be. You take the chart back and turn away while they take out the first pen. They use this pen to color in the body on the business card and then they take a second pen to color in the area around the body. They then put the pens back and they hide the business card. You are now able to tell them exactly what their star sign is. Method: This is VERY straightforward and I guarantee that this method of cuing has many applications. There are two things you will require to perform this. First of all, on the back you your business card you want to draw something similar to this...

Each star sign how has a specific ‘code’ essentially, which means that when these pens are taken out in the order ‘Body’, then ‘Aura’ you are going to know exactly which star sign they are.

So, going right back to the start, you give the spectator the business card and explain which two areas they will be coloring in. You get them to think of their star sign and remember the color for their body and the color for their aura. You now take the chart back and you hold onto it. This is how you later find out which star sign they are... I find it helps having to memorize it. You first of all instruct them to take out the color pen which matches their body color and they are asked to color that in. They then remove the color for their aura and they color that in. If they are unsure at any point, offer to give them the chart again to make sure. This is also the apparent reason for you still holding on to it. Now you get to look away as they take out the first pen, then the second. All you have to do is match that sequence up with a star sign. Before you turn back around, make sure they have put both pens back and hidden the business card to make sure there is no way you can see it. You can now go on to accurately reveal their star sign. You’ll also probably find they are more likely to keep your business card as it has their own specific star sign ‘pattern’ drawn on it by them!

THE PICASSO by Blake Adams

Effect: A few years ago I became an uncle. I loved being an uncle because it meant that I could spoil the kid and when the sugar high kicked in, I could just leave him with his par ents. He’s only three years old and he’s very artistic, in other words, he likes to color. Here is an example (performer pulls out a folded up page from his pocket, obviously colored by a little kid). I kind of compare him to Picasso. As you can tell he prefers to color his trees with a red trunk and purple leaves. Oh, my favorite are his bears which are orange with green stripes, you've got to love it. I like to think its because he’s artistic but the pictures turned out this way because he just doesn’t really care. I thought we might try my nephew’s way of coloring as an experiment. I have my own colors up here along with a giant picture of a face. We are going to create our own master piece, but before we get to coloring we need to have a name for this guy. (It might be a good idea to use John Archer’s Collard idea where you get four or five spectators to call out one letter at a time. Or you can just ask for a short name. The performer writes the name above the picture and invites the spectator to join him on stage). We also have a sealed envelope which we’ll have you hold on to. Its taped sealed correct? (The performer hands the envelope to a spectator in the front row then joins the other spectator back on stage). Ma’am, I have here your ________ (hands her the drawing), and your tools (gestures to the colors) are on the table. I want you to make a wacky picture, the wackier the better. To make sure you stay away from realism, were going to have some fun. We are going to stand back to back so I cant see what you're doing. I am then going to ask you to grab any color you want, and I promise I wont peek. Do so now; have you got one? Great, we'll use that color and draw some hair on our figure. Now grab another pen and color in the eyes. You're done? Perfect! Grab another and give our guy some eyebrows. Grab another color and give him a goatee. Now grab the last one and draw a mustache. Great, we should have a pretty crazy masterpiece now. (Performer turns around and looks) Wow that is crazy! That's a random masterpiece isn’t it? Actually, I don’t know if it's all that random. You see I forced you to draw rapidly and I really rushed you to make a decision

when you chose each marker. Did you feel influenced? Do you think I could have forced you to choose the colors I wanted you to choose? Well, before we began I gave a volunteer and huge envelope which I would love to get back. (the perform retrieves it) Well, lets see how close I got. (He starts to pull out the prediction slowly so that the performer reveals each part of the drawing by itself. Starting with the goatee, then the mustache followed by the eyes and so on. He stops pulling it out after the hair is shown) Now that's crazy but what’s even crazier was that I was able to predict the name of the painting. (the drawing is pulled all the way out and the name is shown)

Method: To perform this effect you need Color Match by Craig Filicetti. If you own this then you know how to set up the pens. I have them in a pen holder on a table. You will also need to construct the envelope and surface that the volunteer will draw on. You will need to buy a foam poster board and the biggest envelopes you can find. The bigger the better because more people will be able to see it. The size that I use are about 2 feet long and are padded. You will then cut the foam board so that it can fit into the envelope.

You will then need to cut another piece of foam board the same size as the one in the envelope. I use foam board because its very sturdy and the volunteer will be able to draw on the board very easily. You will then need to cut a rectangle shape hole into the envelope. This will be done at the bottom of the envelope. This will be done on the opposite side of the address side. Do not throw away the piece you cut out. You will use it later on. You will then need some duck tape. Tape the top of the envelope horizontally like the pic ture. You will then construct a flap for the bottom.

Wrap duct tape all around the bottom but don’t cover up the hole. The construction of the flap should be self explanatory from the picture. As you can see you use the left over piece you cut out of the envelope for part of the flap. This is so when the flap is closed you wont tape the board inside to the envelope and the board will be able to slide out easily. The tape is supposed to look like an added measure to keep your prediction securely sealed away. After this is done you will then need to draw a picture of a face on the two boards. Don’t worry if you cant draw a face, the worse it looks the funnier it is. Also put a place for a name at the top, but make sure the place for the name lines up with the cut out on the en velope. All you have to do now is color one drawing anyway you like. You could have them draw earrings or a nose ring or lips or hair in the ears.

Now I like using the hair, eyebrows, eyes, mustache and goatee because you can reveal them one by one. I believe that this is better than wiping out the envelope and showing everything at once. Take a look at the pictures below to see what I mean.

Now the name. After you give your intro you go to your briefcase and grab the envelope that is sealed with your prediction and hold it with the flap facing you. On top of the envelope is the blank picture that the volunteer will draw on. You are holding them together out in front of your body. When you are asking for the name of the soon to be masterpiece you just thumb write it into the cut out slot of the envelope with your favorite grease marker thumb writer. When you're done you just close the flap. Devin Knight had a similar idea that he suggested in his Chess prediction. Here is a picture of the flap closed - you can’t even notice it. This can now be safely handed to someone in the audience and they will never know there was a flap.

Now for the colors. Obviously when you ask them to grab a color you know what they grab and you tell them where to draw. For example: If they pick up a marker and you know its green tell them to color in a goatee. Very simple. All I ask is that those who use this effect, make it your own.
