This is the official statement of Ateneo COMELEC regarding the closure of the 2016 General Elections....
Description
COMELEC MEMO No. 201641 Dated: 13 April 2016
TO: Loyola Schools Student Body FROM: Ateneo Commission on Elections RE: Closing of the 2016 General Elections
Greetings!
This memorandum is for the purpose of officially announcing the closure of the 2016 General Elections.
As of 11:55 PM, April 12, 2016, all remaining candidates have decided to withdraw their candidacy. As such, the Ateneo Commission on Elections (COMELEC) cannot push through with the 2016 General Elections.
COMELEC would also like to emphasize that conducting Special Elections would be futile due to the circumstances. The candidates, presented with every opportunity to run, have voluntarily decided not to field themselves in this General Elections. Given this fact, it is the opinion of Ateneo COMELEC that conducting a Special Elections would produce the same results as the General Elections. Added to this concern, conducting Special Elections in the intersession semester would hamper the electoral body’s ability to vote since not all of the student body are required and will enroll for intersession classes. Thus, the electoral body wouldn’t be able to actively participate in such remedy.
The institution fully acknowledged the 2005 Constitution of the Undergraduate Students of the Ateneo de Manila Loyola Schools and also fully respected the decision of the student body regarding the current electoral matter. COMELEC has exhausted all remedies available to it, and it has come to the above decision through careful and thorough deliberation.
So ordered,
(Sgd.) Ma. Patrice G. Gabito Chief Commissioner Commissioner for Communications
