He plays football in the playground before lessons start … and he plays football at lunchtime too! Tim has football training three afternoons a week and he plays in matches on Tuesdays. Becky always has breakfast with 200 other ballet school students. Then she has a ballet class for two hours. She wears a pink leotard, pink tights and pink ballet pumps. (She likes pink!) After a shower Becky has normal lessons until quarter past four. Then she practises ballet movements until dinnertime. In the pyjamas evening she sometimes watches ballet videos on the internet before she goes to bed (in pink pyjamas!). 1 Comment Hannah says: My favourite dancer is Sylvie Guillem! She’s French.

Serfs and peasants

Lords are rich. They live in manor houses or castles. They don’t work, but they always wake up early, and go to church once a day. They usually have hobbies like hunting or watching tournaments. They eat big banquets with meat, fish, vegetables, fruit and honey. They watch musicians, jugglers and magicians.

Serfs work for the lord. They don’t get any money, but they have some land. They have protection from their enemies because they live in the manor. They have different jobs. Some work on the land as farmers and look after the lord’s land. Other serfs are tax collectors, bakers and craftsmen. They can’t leave the manor.

Peasants usually grow vegetables and pay the lord for the land. They are free, but they usually don’t leave the manor. Some join the church, but most work on the land. Serfs and peasants are very poor. They eat badly. They live in cottages with a table and chairs, but no bed. They sleep on straw on the floor with their animals.

Tell your partner about a castle in your country. Coca castle is in Segovia. The castle in Tossa de Mar is next to the beach.

by Tara, Ben, Dex and Layla 1 Shops Shops usually open at nine o’clock and close at half past five. Big supermarkets usually stay open until late at the weekend. ADVICE: Some big supermarkets are open 24 hours Monday to Friday.

The weather In the winter it usually rains every day. It’s cold because the sun doesn’t usually shine. ADVICE: Bring warm clothes, a raincoat and an umbrella! In the summer it’s usually warm. The sun shines every day. But this is the UK, so it sometimes rains too! ADVICE: Bring sunglasses and T-shirts (and an umbrella just in case!).

School School usually starts at nine o’clock and it always finishes between three and four o’clock. ADVICE: Lots of schools have after-school clubs where you can do sport or learn a language.

3 Eating People have breakfast at about eight o’clock. They have lunch at about twelve or one o’clock. ADVICE: Put an apple in your bag. People usually have dinner early – at five or six o’clock. ADVICE: Don’t worry! They usually have a snack in the evening too.
