1. Fold in half.

4. Turn the model over.

5. Squash. 6. Fold and unfold the bottom edge to a point a little bit below the top corner.

7. Fold and unfold the top corner to the point where the just made line touches the left edge of the paper. The fold should be at an right angle to the left edge and go to where the creases cross in the middle of the paper.

8. Valley fold the top left side to the vertical middle line. 9. Fold and unfold the top left side in half again then unfold to step 8.

19. Open the model by bringing the bottom left corner up (1) while swinging the right corner to the left (2+3). The model will not lie flat.

20. Flip one layer down behind. The model stays 3-dimensional. 21. Grab the paper where indicated and carefully press the points backwards until the middle point pops out to the front getting convex.

22. Tuck the flap inside. 24. Look at the indicated part from the side.

25. Inside Reverse fold. The upper part of the fold line is already existing and starts at the tip of the middle structure of the model, the lower part needs to be extended to the corner.

23. Turn the model over.

26. Mountain fold along the an existing crease.

30. The spinning top is ready to spin.

27. Like this. Look at the model from above like in step 24.

28. Repeat steps 25 to 27 on the other three sides. 29. Press and twist the middle along the precreases to get a better handle.

g = pl2 − pw2 ∗ 0.53 l1, l2: edge length of module 1 resp. 2 in the final model. pl1, pl2: paper length of module 1 resp. 2. pw1, pw2: paper width of module 1 resp. 2. g: gap between the two ends, here at module 2. If g is negative, then both ends come together and the folding is not possible. Choose one length and one width and calculate the other sizes.

The folding of the edge modules is shown here with square paper. The same folding sequence can be used with other rectangles. Similar modules are made before by Tomoko Fuse (Unit Origami, Japan Publication, 1990) and Francis Ow (Modular Origami [self-publication]). After this folding sequence here the assembly of the modules is easier and the vertices look nicer.
