(Thanks to the chairperson. Greets the audiences) Although there are many formal and acceptable definitions of child abuse, the following is offered as a guide for information on child abuse and neglect. Child abuse consists of any act of commission or omission that endangers or impairs a child’s physical or emotional health and development. Child abuse includes any damage done to a child which cannot be reasonably explained and which is often represented by an injury or series of injuries appearing to be non-accidental in nature. There are 4 types of child abuse, it is physical, sexual, psychological and also neglect that i will explain to all of you because there are too lots actually. Forms of all this kinds of child abuse, 1. Physical abuse Any non-accidental injury to a child. This includes hitting, kicking, slapping, shaking, burning, pinching, hair pulling, biting, choking, throwing, shoving, whipping, and paddling. 2. Sexual abuse Any sexual act between an adult and child. This includes fondling, penetration, intercourse, exploitation, pornography, exhibitionism, child prostitution, group sex, oral sex, or forced observation of sexual acts.
3. Psychological abuse Psychological abuse, also referred to as emotional abuse or mental abuse, is a form of abuse characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another to behavior that may result in psychological trauma, including anxiety, chronicdepression, or posttraumatic stress disorder. Such abuse is often associated with situations of power imbalance, such as abusive relationships, bullying, and abuse in the workplace. 4. Neglect abuse Failure to provide for a child’s physical needs. This includes lack of supervision, inappropriate housing or shelter, inadequate provision of food and water, inappropriate clothing for season or weather, abandonment, denial of medical care and inadequate hygiene. Thank you, that all from me. Chairperson
Panel 2
(Thanks to the Panel 1.) From what of (Pane 1 named) have said. Now we knew that there are 4 types of child abuse, (mention all the forms of child abuse.) Right my next question is to (Panel 2 named). What is the factors that can cause child abuse? Can you explain its? (Thanks to the chairperson. Greets the audiences) Research has uncovered a number of risk factors or attributes commonly associated with maltreatment. Children in families and environments where these factors exist have a higher probability of experiencing maltreatment. A greater understanding of risk factors can help professionals working with children and families identify maltreatment and high-risk situations so they can intervene appropriately. It must be emphasized, however, that while certain factors often are present among families where maltreatment occurs, this does not mean that the presence of these factors necessarily lead to child abuse and neglect. Common factors associated with increased risk of child maltreatment are often categorized as follows: Parent or caregiver factors
Child factors
Family factors
Community and environmental factors
Risk factors for recurrence of child abuse and neglect
Co-occurring risk factors
Chairperson

To make more our forum flare up, (Panel 3 named), you as a Chief of Police at Bukit Aman Police Station, you must know about this case statistic. Can you share with us about the child abuse statistic. (Thanks to the chairperson. Greets the audiences) Child abuse is on the rise in Malaysia with an increase of some 700 reportedcases between 2006 and 2008. Despite significant strides made by the Government in improving child
protection measures in recent years, statistics from the Department of Social Welfare show a rise in reported child abuse cases in Malaysia: 2008: 2,780 child abuse reports 2007: 2,279 child abuse reports 2006: 1,999 child abuse reports. Based on 2008 reported figures, neglect is the most common form of child abuse in Malaysia. The breakdown of the three key forms of abuse are as follows: 952 child victims experienced neglect, meaning a caretaker failed to provide for the child’s basic needs. 863 child victims were physically abused. 733 child victims were sexually abused, 72% were incest. 58 child victims were abandoned babies. Failure to provide care and supervision has become the most frequent cause of death among children. Child abuse reports in Malaysia spiked to a record high last year, according to statistics, as police blame the crime on misunderstandings and financial difficulties. The number of physical child abuse cases jumped about 26 percent from 203 in 2009 to 257 in 2010, the highest recorded over the last five years, Malaysian federal police revealed to local daily.
