GEOLOGIA ECONOMICA. En el área este se destacan los yacimientos filonianos de

W X

origen hidrotermal hospedados en rocas sedimentarias, con mineralización Sb y Au (Chilcobija, Avaroa, Candelaria), polimetálicos: Sn, Pb y Zn (Santo Domingo, Trapiche). Mineralizaciones de Au desarrollados en yacimientos hidrotermales se encuentran en las minas Chilco y Sucre. En el estratovolcán Azulejos, (Galán y Lipina) existen mineralizaciones portadoras de Bi, W, Pb, Ag y Au en yacimientos filonianos de origen hidrotermal emplazados en rocas volcánicas y asociados a silicificación, argilitización y propilitización. Placeres de Au detrítico se encuentra en los lechos de los ríos Kollpa Mayu, Santa Isabel y sus tributarios. Los principales distritos y la mineralización que los caracteriza se encuentran señalados en el cuadro de Ocurrencias Minerales.

ANDEAN CYCLE (Lower Triassic – Present) Sedimentites, related to this cycle, outcrop at W part of the area. These overlie with angular unconformity to the Paleozoic rocks. The sedimentation started with Potoco Fm. (c 1500 m), conformed mainly by liotofacies of pelites deposited in a fluvial continental environment of meandering – type facies, these associated construction of wide foreland basin and related to active and compressive period of upper Oligocene. Which caused the psefites and debris flow depositation correspond to alluvial fans of the San Vicente Fm. (c 700 m). Transitionally overlie the pelites, psammites, and volcanic agglomerates facies of the Esmoruco Fm. (c 600 m). An andesitic – basaltic lava colada is disconformity to the rest sedimentary units of the area, and It corresponds to the Rondal event (100 m) [21.4 ± 0.1 Ma (3)], related to calcalcaline volcanic activity with regional distribution. In the eastern part of the area, in unconformity relation were deposited the fluvial – lacutrine facies of the Nazareno Fm. (c 120 m), related to piggy back basin. Later, in the SW of the area, the volcanic activity were reinitiated at the Lower Miocene, with pyroclastic deposits related to the Torrelaire 2 Tuffs (c 150 m) [17.8 ± 0.4 Ma (4) - 16.1 ± 0.5 Ma (5) - 15.7 ± 0.6 Ma (5) - 15.2 ± 0.5 Ma (3)]. They overlie to the Esmuruco Fm, and constitute also volcanoclastic and pyroclastic units with dacitic composition. The volcanic activity was continuous with the construction of Azulejos Estratovolcano, with dacitic and andesitic lava coladas, related to the series dacitic subvolcanic intrusions, denominated Lipina Domes. In the NW part of the area, a volcanism of fissure type permitted the development of Tres Cerrillos Tuffs, with dacitic composition, and they overlie with disconformity to the Fms.: San Vicente and Potoco, The effusion continuous with Tres Cerrillos, Tholoma, and Cerrillos Lavas, with dacitic to andesitic composition. The magmatism events of the area ended with an isolated volcanic manifestation of Tangani Dome of dacitic composition.

TACSARIAN CYCLE (Upper Cambrian – Upper Ordovician). This cycle started in the area, during the Llanvirnian times with the marine deposits of a continuous thick sequence and turbidites, very deformed and silicified. The Marquina Fm. (c 1100 m), is the first component of this sequence conformed by turbidites, psammites, and pelites related to self shallow marine environment. Transitionally overlie the pelites of the Angosto Fm. (c 1200 m) this are associated to subsident events of middle shelf environment. The sequence are continuous with the pelitic deposits and marine sinsediemenatry slumps of the Kollpani Fm. (c 900 m), this unit is also related to self environment. Above this series developed the facies with psammites and pelites intercalated of the Tapial Fm. (c 1000 m), with primary sedimentary structures that indicate an variable environment from tidal facies to coastal.

la sedimentación de la cuenca ordovícica presentes en el área y originó una deformación sinsedimentaria de la misma. Posteriormente los efectos tardíos de la fase Eohercínica afectaron las rocas ordovícicas con un cizallamiento y un epimetamorfismo debil. La ausencia de depósitos sedimentarios en los períodos Silúrico-Jurasico supone la presencia de uno o más altos topográficos, la sedimentación se reinicia durante el Maastrichtiano con la Fm El Molino, aflorante con el área vecina Esmoraca. A partir del Eoceno se genera el desarrollo de una cuenca de antepaís, vinculada a un régimen compresivo del Oligoceno Sup. que ocasionó el acortamiento de la cuenca y permitió el desarrollo de una faja plegada de dirección NNE-SSW y el desarrollo de la Falla San Vicente, tuvo un componente transpresivo durante y después de la depositación de la Fm. Esmoruco, lo cual se refleja en el plegamiento N - S de las Fms. Potoco, San Vicente y Esmoruco. Como consecuencia de los movimientos de la fase Quechuana se originaron en el Altiplano Sur varios dominios tectonoestratigráficos limitados por fallas regionales. En este mismo período, se desarrolló una secuencia de corrimientos del tipo piggy-back permitiendo la depositación de la Fm. Nazareno en el ámbito de la Cordillera Oriental. El desarrollo aislado de la actividad magmática del área se halla vinculado a los procesos de actividad volcánica del arco, los cuales evolucionaron desde el Mioceno Inferior y corresponden a un magmatismo de trasarco.

The Chilcobija area located at the South part of Bolivia, between W border of the Eastern Cordillera and E border of the South Altiplano. It presents a geochronology of sedimentary rocks of Upper Paleozoic (Atocha Segment, 2), Paleogene, and Neogene. The Paleozoic rocks are related to back arc and/or foreland environment; the Paleogene rocks were developed in continental basins limited between Eastern Cordillera and the volcanic arc (External Foreland). Finally, the neogene deposits correspond to piggy back basins. The geochronology history of the area is complemented in the Miocene, with the effusive process which have created volcanic deposits, associated to the Azulejos estratovolcano.

CICLO ANDINO (Triásico Inf. - Presente). Al W del área afloran sedimentitas asignadas a este ciclo, que sobreyacen discordantemente sobre depósitos del anterior. La sedimentación se inicia con la Fm. Potoco (ca 1500 m), con litofacies principalmente pelíticas depositadas en ambiente continental fluvial del tipo meandriforme, sedimentación asociada a la edificación de una amplia cuenca de antepaís y vinculada a un periodo activo y compresivo durante el Oligoceno Sup., los cuales originan la depositación de conglomerados y flujos de detritos correspondientes a abanicos aluviales de la Fm. San Vicente (700 m). Transicionalmente sobreyacen pelitas, areniscas y aglomerados volcánicos de la Fm. Esmoruco (ca 600 m). Una colada de lavas andesítico - basálticas, discordantes a la anterior unidad, caracterizan al Evento Rondal (100 m) [21,4 ± 0.1 Ma (3)], asociada a una actividad volcánica calcoalcalina, con distribución regional. En la parte oriental del área y en relación discordante se desarrollan depósitos fluvio-lacustres de la Fm. Nazareno (ca 120 m), con litofacies características asociadas a cuencas intramontanas. Posteriormente, en el sector SW, la actividad magmática se reinicia en el Mioceno Inf. con los depósitos piroclásticos, correspondientes a las Tobas Torrelaire 2 (150 m) [17,8 ±0,4 Ma (4) – 16,1 ± 0,5 Ma (5) – 15,7±0,6 (5) -15,2±0,5 Ma (3)], sobreyacen a la Fm Esmoruco, y constituyen además, unidades volcanoclásticas y piroclastitas de composición dacítica. La actividad volcánica continúa con la edificación del Estratovolcán Azulejos, coladas de lava dacítica y andesítica, asociada a una serie de intrusiones subvolcanicas de composición dacítica denominadas Domos Lipina. En el sector NW del área, un vulcanismo de tipo fisural desarrolló las Tobas Tres Cerrillos, de composición dacítica, sobreyacen discordantemente a las Fms. San Vicente y Potoco. Continúa con las efusiones de las Lavas Tres Cerrillos, Tholoma, y Cerrillos de

CICLO TACSARIANO (Cámbrico Sup.-Ordovicico Sup.). Este ciclo se inicia en el área durante el Llandeiliano, con los depósitos marinos de una potente secuencia continua y turbidítica, muy deformada y silicificada. La Fm. Marquina (ca 1100 m) es la primera unidad de la indicada secuencia, conformada por facies turbidíticas, psamitas y pelitas, vinculadas a una ambiente marino de plataforma somera. Transicionalmente sobreyacen las pelitas de la Fm. Angosto (ca 1200 m), asociados a eventos subsidentes de plataforma marina. La secuencia continúa con los depósitos pelíticos y presencia de deslizamientos sinsedimentarios marinos de la Fm. Kollpani (ca 900 m), también vinculados a un ambiente de plataforma. Hacia el tope de la serie, se desarrollan las facies de psamitas y pelitas intercaladas de la Fm. Tapial (ca 1000 m), con presencia de estructuras sedimentarias primarias que sugieren un ambiente marino que varía entre tidal a costa.

El área Chilcobija, ubicada al sur de Bolivia, entre el borde W la Cordillera Oriental y el borde E del Altiplano meridional, presenta una geocronología de rocas del paleozoico Sup., segmento Atocha (2); del Paleógeno y Neógeno. Las unidades paleozoicas están vinculadas a un ambiente de trasarco y/o antepaís; las unidades paleógenas se desarrollaron en cuencas continentales limitados entre la Cordillera Oriental y el arco volcánico (antepaís externo), finalmente los depósitos neógenos corresponden a cuencas intramontanas. La historia geológica del área, se complementa en el Mioceno, con procesos efusivos que han originado depósitos volcánicos, asociados al estratovolcán Azulejos.

the Ordovician sedimentation and developed a synsedimentary deformation of the basins at that time. Later, the stage effects of the Eohercinian phase affected the Ordovician rocks a shearing and weak epimetamorphism. There are not sedimentary records during Silurian – Jurassic, and that suggests the presence of an import uplifted terrains. The sedimentation was reinitiated in the Maastrichtian with the depositation of El Molino Fm., outcropped in the Esmoraca area. A foreland basin was generate at Eocene times, related to compressive regime of the Upper Oligocene, which Caused a shortening of the basin and permitted the development of thrust belt to NNE – SSW, and the origin of the San Vicente thrust. Later, It had a transpressive component at the time deposition of the Esmoruco Fm. occurred. This is reflected by the N – S folding of the Potoco, San Vicente, and Esmoruco formations. As a consequence of the movements of the Quechuana tectonic phase, It was generated several tectonoestratigraphic domains limited by regional faults in the southern Altiplano. During Lower Miocene a piggy – back thrust sequence developed allowing the Nazareno Fm. depositation in the Eastern Cordillera domain. The isolate development of the magmatic activity of the area is related to the process of volcanic arc activity, which were developed from Lower Miocene and correspond to back arc.

CARTA GEOLOGICA DE BOLIVIA HOJA CHILCOBIJA ESCALA 1: 100.000

PETROLOGY. The chemical analysis achieve in the volcanic rocks of the area allows to make a classification as a basaltic trachyandesites, andesites, dacites and trachydecites (TAS Diagram). Located also in the field of the calc-alkaline rocks, rich in K (AFM Diagram), they constitute characteristic of volcanic activity related to the subduction zone.

ECONOMIC GEOLOGY. The metallic deposits of the area are mainly hydrothermal

veins hosted in sedimentary rocks, with mineralization of Sb and Au (Chilcobija, Avaroa, and Candelaria), Pollymetallic: Sn, Pb, and Zn (Santo Domingo and Trapiche). Mineralization of Au were developed in hydrothermal deposits and they are found in the Chilco and Sucre mines. In the Azulejos Estatovolcano, Galan, and Lipina there are mineralization with Bi, W, Pb, Ag, and Au, they happen in vein deposits of hydrothermal origin, emplaced in volcanic rocks and related to silicification, argillization, and propylization.
