Hadith On Charity Kind speech and forgiveness is better than charity followed by injury; and Allah is Self-sufficient, Forbearing. 2:263 If you give alms openly, it is well, and if you hide it and give it to the poor, it is better for you; and this will do away with some of your evil deeds; and Allah is aware of what you do.2:271 Imam Jafar bin Muhammad al Sadiq says: Hidden charity appeases the wrath of Allah, does away with the sins as the water puts out the fire, and keeps away several misfortunes. The Holy Prophet has said: Seven persons shall be allowed to take refuge with Allah when there will be no other refuge. (6) He who gives charity in secret by one hand, not letting the other know it. And those who spend their property (in alms) to be seen of the people and do not believe in Allah nor in the last day; and as for him whose associate is the Shaitan, an evil associate is he!. 4:38 And whatever you lay out as usury, so that it may increase in the property of men, it shall not increase with Allah; and whatever you give in charity, desiring Allah's pleasure - it is these (persons) that shall get manifold. 30:39 And spend out of what We have given you before death comes to one of you, so that he should say: My Lord! why didst Thou not respite me to a near term, so that I should have given alms and been of the doers of good deeds? 63:10 The best means by which seekers of nearness to Alláh, the Glorified, the Exalted, seek nearness, is the belief in Him and His Prophet, fighting in His cause, for it is the high pinnacle of Islam, ………to giving alms secretly for it covers shortcomings, giving alms openly for it protects against a bad death and extending benefits (to people) for it saves from positions of disgrace. NB Sr 109 A conceited and self-admiring person is disliked by others; charity and alms are the best remedy for ailments and calamities; one has to account in the next world for the deeds that he has done in this world. NB Sy7 Do not feel ashamed if the amount of charity is small because to refuse the needy is an act of greater shame. NBSy68 If you want to pray to Allah for better means of subsistence, then first give something in charity NBSy135 Silence will create respect and dignity; justice and fair play will bring more friends; benevolence and charity will enhance prestige and position;NB Sy203 KNOW - God have mercy upon you - that God has rights against you and that these encompass you in every movement through which you move, every rest through which you rest, every waystation in which you reside, every limb which you employ, and every instrument which you put to work. Some of these rights
are greater and some less.. [B] Then He gave your acts rights against you: He gave [13] your charity a right against you, SS –Rights (10) Give us success in this month to tighten our bonds of kin with devotion and gifts, attend to our neighbours with bestowal and giving, rid our possessions from claims, purify them through paying the alms, SS dua 44 Q.83 Is it permissible to set aside sadaqa (legally prescribed alms tax) money with the intent of giving it to the poor and could the said money be exchanged for another? Setting the money aside per se would not render it as a mustahab (voluntary, and meritorious, act of worship) sadaqa.2:(215) Islam is the only religion which makes spending (in the way of Allah) obligatory. Every Muslim must follow the divine commandments as to how the bounties of Allah, given to him, should be shared with his less fortunate relatives and fellowcreatures. This verse tells us the order in which charity should be given. First, in the list, are the parents, then the near kindred, the orphans, the needy and the wayfarer. There is no reward if parents and the nearer kindred are overlooked in order to meet the demands of others. The needs of the parents should be cared for as a duty without the embarrassment of their having to ask for the same. The Holy Prophet advised his followers to take care of the parents, brothers and sisters, and the nearest relatives first, and then the others. It must also be noted that wars (in self-defence) require funds. To finance such wars is as important as spending for the helpless relatives, because it is in the interest of the whole community that the invaders should not be allowed to destroy the polity of the faithful. Imam Husayn bin Ali used to give alms from behind the door, so that the needy might not feel ashamed and humiliated. His son, Imam Ali bin Husayn, used to kiss the hand of the needy before giving anything in charity, because, according to verse 104 of al Tawbah, it is Allah who takes the alms. 2:262 tafseer
Why is Charity compared to an ear having 700 grains? Question: It is mentioned in Surah Baqarah: “The parable of those who spend their property in the way of Allah is as the parable of a grain growing seven ears (with) hundred grains in every ear…” In spite of the fact that we have inquired of the agricultural scientists that if we have a piece of land which is prepared from every aspect. It is irrigated properly and birds also do not pick up its grain and the seed is also not destroyed in it and no trouble descends on it and the soil is also of a good quality and all the conditions of growing a crop on it is fulfilled then how much wheat can be produced from a stalk of wheat? They replied: thirty or at the most forty and nothing more than this seen till now. Thus how does the Almighty say that it is like the ear which gives 700 grains whereas if Allah had desired He could have given more. Answer: Two points have to be kept in mind in the reply to this question. Firstly the above quoted verse does not mention wheat or any other grain, rather the word Habb - grain is used. And that the one posing the question has given the examples of wheat, which is such a derivation that is not even mentioned in the Holy Quran. Thus if we find a grain whose one grain gives seven hundred grains it would be sufficient to justify the above verse. If by chance there are some seeds, one of which is maize if it is planted at fixed place it is possible that one grain would produce seven grains (7 ears of hundred grains each, i.e. or more could be obtained.) It is said that bajra (millet) also produces many grains.1 Secondly even if for the sake of argument we consider the above verse there is another possibility and it is that when two things are compared to each other. There is a distinction of the compared thing which is not in the thing with which it is compared though from the aspect of the actual topic of discussion there is similarity in it. For example it is said:(His face is like the moon which does not set) or he is a sun that never sets or he is tall as the date palm, though we know that moon always sets and there is sunset also and there is no tree on the earth that walks. Therefore, such comparisons imply that for example his face is fresh and luminous like the moon and only the difference is that there is decline for the moon but that person has no decline or his body has the qualities of tall stature of a date palm but his distinction is that he can walk and the date palm cannot walk. Many such kinds of examples are found in literature. In addition to poetic examples the Quran itself has such comparisons and similes. For example when the Holy Quran gives the examples of pure and best things it says it is like a tree that bears fruits.2 Although there is no tree that bears fruits all the year round or even if there is such a tree would be very rare. Thus the implication is that this tree of goodness has a distinction over all the other trees and it is that there is no autumn for this tree and neither is there any restriction on it for bearing fruits. The Holy Quran also gives the examples of the light of Allah and says: His light is as a niche in which is a lamp…3 In the same verse He says: 1
In Tafseer Minhajus Sadiqeen this reply is indicated under the commentary of the above verse Surah Ibrahim 15:25 3 Surah Nur 24:35 2
… the oil whereof almost gives light though fire touch it not. Though any oil, however pure it may be, does not light up without fire. Actually it is a distinction which is given as a simile. The verse regarding which question is posed in that too the growth of the seed of Charity seventy fold is a distinction which the seed of Charity has over all the seeds of the world.
