Description

CHAPTER 3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This chapter provides information on the research methods of our thesis; also it includes the process we have used to collect information and the data for the purpose of our thesis used by the researchers that can help us to initialize more information about the problem. The survey research method has been chosen to determine which negative factor of Facebook affects a student’s life. The survey instrument is in a form of questionnaire to determine the respondents’ perception in terms of using Facebook. The statistical treatment of data and data gathering procedure are also included in this chapter. Research Design

Designing a study helps the researcher to plan and implement the study in a way that will help the researcher to obtain intended results, thus increasing the chances of obtaining information that could be associated with the real situation. In conducting the study, the researchers will convey surveys among respondents involved in the study. The only materials that will be used are 100 survey questionnaires. Respondents of the Study The respondents of this study will be the female students of Grades 7 to Grade 9 of Mary Immaculate School (A.Y 2014 – 2015). These respondents are the ones who are knowledgeable enough to answer the problems posed in the present study. They answered the questionnaire that the researchers gave them which supplies the information that the researchers need.

Population and Sample of the Study The target population of this study includes 100 female students. We chose the female students from Grade 7 to Grade 9 in answering our thesis survey. Females are more active in using Facebook than males. Female students can literally relate in our thesis study. We can determine that they can see immediately the news about what is happening in our society. Many people state that females are talkative and noisy. Unlike the males, they preferred playing online games. Aside from posting on this site, Female also reads anything because they can also relate anything because they are so expressive. Females are qualified to answer in our thesis survey because they are fit in our study. We made the questionnaire out of 10 items. Each number is grouped into a negative effect which can help us determine what affects them most in their life. We gathered ideas through searching and sampling. In our survey, the ten questions are relatable and happen into real life. Research Instrument For this study, the survey-questionnaire instrument was used to achieve the main objective of the study. The questionnaire given to the female students of Grade 7 to Grade 9 will provide evidences on the negative effects of Facebook to an individual’s life. In this type of questionnaire, the respondents were given two response choices (yes or no). These options served as the quantification of the participants' agreement or disagreement on each question item. The questionnaire was structured in such a way that respondents will be able to answer it easily.

Data Gathering Procedure The data for this research were collected using a survey questionnaire. The survey was created using suitable questions modified from related research and individual questions formed by the researcher. This is to determine the factor that mostly affects their life inside facebook. The survey was comprised of 10 questions, which were related to the participant’s perception regarding the negative effects of using Facebook. The researchers assured confidentiality of their survey sheets since the identities are not important. The researchers also understood that people’s consciousness may also affect their honesty in answering the survey, and so, the researchers gave people the option of being anonymous. All appropriately fulfilled questionnaires were retrieved, prepared, organized, and compiled for analysis of data. Treatment of Data The responses made by the female students giving their perception of views in terms of using Facebook and how it affects them were presented. For instance, Grade level and Age were collected. This was also applied for the most common bad effects of using Facebook so the researchers will be able to identify what affects the female respondents most. In providing overall picture of the socio-demographic profile and perception of using Facebook, summary presentations will be presented. Age 

11 – 16 years old

Grade Level 

Grade 7 – 9

Statistical Treatment of Data Respondents of the questionnaire by the female students were statistically analyzed with the data requirements of the study. Students were statistically analyzed with the data instruments of the study. Descriptive statistics such as frequency account, mean, percent and rank are considered.
