Description
Since its inception, it has been bringing out various publications for the people from all walks of life. There are books for children, for common visitors and for the scholars interested in the study of art, architecture, painting, sculptures, history, religion, culture etc. The work of publishing the books is carried out by the publication unit. Headed by a keeper, it has the following staff : (I) Production Officer (ii) Lay-out Artist (iii) Technical Assistant (iv) Copy Holder-cum-Typist (v) Jr. Store Keeper (vi) Packer. Besides bringing out art publications on Indian Art & Culture, the unit also rolls out the quarterly newsletter, a research journal, research publications, guide books, gallery sheets, brochures on exhibitions and galleries, catalogues, monographs, activity books, picture postcard, reproductions and other finding-aids required by the scholars and general public. Earlier the publications were brought out mostly in English. Of late, the efforts have been made to provide the material in Hindi as well, for the benefit of common people. Many of the publications published by the National Museum are comparable to the best art books published anywhere in the world. Some of them have fetched the Presidential award of their quality of production. Besides National Museum's sale counter, these publications are also available at Publications Divisions, Patiala House (New Delhi) as they are the sole distributors.
