your reasons for choosing your education provider/school? I prefer to study in Holmesglen Chadstone Campus Victoria Melbourne Australia, because it has good facilities, advance technology for design, it has good reviews on forums, blogs, social media accounts and YouTube videos, they have also small classes where they can focus in all students in the class, I can also make sure that I’m always fit because they have Fitness Center where I can exercise, they have restaurants where I can eat different cuisines and they have studios for arts where i can see a lot of art pieces that will help me to gather ideas for design.

Why do you intend to study in Australia instead in the Philippines? I want to study design course in Australia because Australia is a very creative country as we can see in the structures of their buildings and bridges they have very modern and unique designs where will expand my ideas about design. Also, they have latest technology and genuine software’s for design so that the functions of the software that we will be using is not limited, and it has top schools in the world where I can assure myself that the knowledge that I will get will satisfy me. Also, it has top cities in the world including Melbourne where I chose to study because it is the most livable city in the world that where I can feel I’m safe all the time.

the relevance of your course of studies to your academic and/or employment background? I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. I have worked as Web Designer / Web Developer in two companies which are automobile and advertising company, some of my duties and responsibilities include Layout Design for websites and converting layouts into static or dynamic website like online reservation system and E–Commerce websites.

the relevance of the course to your future career/educational plans?

The relevance of this course to my future career is I want to continue my job position as web developer / web designer where I I will be designing layouts and banner ads for websites

the importance of getting an Australian qualification with your plans when you get back in the Philippines?

When I finish the course, I will be able to satisfy my future clients by having excellent foundation of design and programming. Also, I have a big chance to be getting a big salary and to be able to accept by the company faster because I have big advantage to other applicants I have high quality education background and educational background. I have also a chance to share the knowledge that I’ve learned to the company that I will be getting in to help them for their innovation in computer and design technology.

How did you choose your school? Did someone referred it to you or you did a research? I searched the list of schools which offers vocational courses in Melbourne and found the subclass 572 and Holmesglen. I prefer to study in Holmesglen because it has good facilities, advance technology for design, it has good reviews on forums, blogs, social media accounts and YouTube videos, they have also small classes where they can focus in all students in the class, I can also make sure that I’m always fit because they have Fitness Center where I can exercise, they have restaurants where I can eat different cuisines and they have studios for arts where i can see a lot of art pieces that will help me to gather ideas for design.

Is there any school in the Philippines that offered the same course in Australia? Yes there are some schools

Why did you choose to study vocational course rather than to choosing a bachelor’s degree? I chose to study vocational diploma rather than a bachelor’s degree because even it’s a vocational course, the high quality of education they have in Australia is enough to satisfy me and it’s more focus on the actual and major subjects rather than the bachelor’s degree they have a lot of theory involve and also another reason why I chose

to study vocational because I want to go back early because I have a son here in the Philippines waiting for me I don’t want to go away to with too long because I need to do my responsibility to him

How did you know and why did you choose streamlined visa processing? Actually I don’t care if it is streamlined visa or not because my focus is the knowledge and skills that I will be getting from the school that I choose whether I’m going to present an evidence of fund or not my parents and my sister that will sponsors me can provide it

Yes I have searched other schools but the only school who standout for me is holmesglen because they have good reviews on social media, youtube, videos, blogs, forums and also by observing their videos about how they promote their school I found out that holmesglen is the school that what I want

HOW THE VISA WORKS Length of stay

This visa allows you to stay in Australia for the duration of your course. It permits multiple entries to Australia. Dependent family members who come with you to Australia are usually able to stay the same length of time as you, but they cannot stay once you have left the country. Your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) policy must cover the full period of your visa. Your student visa can be granted up to the maximum duration outlined in the table below. Duration of course

Students with permission to work

Work entitlement You can work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when your course is in session and unlimited hours when your course is not in session. Genuine temporary entrant requirement activities outside the country in which it is based. They must also employ you in a role in relation to which your principal course is of direct relevance.

Health requirements You must meet certain health requirements. The health examinations you need will depend on your personal circumstances, including your country of citizenship, time spent in another country during the last five years and your intended activities in Australia. The results of your health examinations are generally valid for 12 months.

This applies to you and any dependent family members included in your application. You are able to organise your health examinations upfront before lodging a visa application.

Health insurance You must have health insurance while in Australia. Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance. See: Overseas Student Health Cover – Frequently Asked Questions You can ask your education provider to organise OSHC for you, or you can select an approved OSHC provider yourself and pay the insurance. Exceptions: You do not need OSHC if you are:   

a Norwegian student covered by the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme a Swedish student covered by the National Board of Student Aid or by Kammarkollegiet a Belgian student covered under the Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia.

If you are studying at more than one educational provider and both are arranging OSHC, you will have to ensure that there is no gap between policies. This means that as one policy expires the next commences immediately. OSHC is available for a period of up to five years. If your course exceeds five years in length, then OSHC providers may issue cover for a longer period. If you have a child born after your arrival in Australia, and you only have a single OSHC policy you must change that to a family policy. If family members join you after your arrival in Australia they will have to demonstrate that they have an OSHC policy for the duration of their visas. Proof of insurance: When you lodge your application, you must provide a receipt or other proof of your OSHC payment. The OSHC should commence when you arrive in Australia.

English language skills The table below outlines the English language skills you require and the evidence you must provide to be granted your first student visa or a subsequent student visa.

However, please check with your Australian education provider about which test they require for your enrolment. b) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) Certificate TOEFL iBT score of:  

46 or above for direct entry into a course; or 32 with an ELICOS course to be taken before your main course. You can study a preliminary English course for up to 30 weeks.

c) Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic Certificate PTE Academic score of:  

42 or above for direct entry into a course; or 30 with an ELICOS course to be taken before your main course. You can study a preliminary English course for up to 30 weeks.

d) Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) Certificate CAE test score of:  

47 or above for direct entry into a course; or 36 with an ELICOS course to be taken before your main course. You can study a preliminary English course for up to 30 weeks.

e) Occupational English Test (OET) Certificate 

OET score of 'pass'

f) TOEFL Paper-Based Test Certificate (This test is only acceptable if taken in one of the following countries where IELTS is not available: Belarus, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Moldova, Solomon Islands, Suriname, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda and Uzbekistan.) Fully funded students: If you are a fully funded student, your education provider will advise you of the level of English you require and the evidence you must provide.

Academic record and history If you are applying for your first student visa, you must provide evidence that you have successfully completed Year 11 or equivalent, by providing school reports and academic records. If you are applying for a subsequent student visa, you must provide academic reports and previous records of attendance to show that you satisfied the course requirements. Character requirements You must be of good character to enter Australia. The information you provide on the 'Character Declaration' section of your application will be used to assess your character. Debts to the Australian government To enter Australia you must: 

have no outstanding debts to the Australian government or  have arranged to repay any outstanding debts to the Australian government. Students under 18 years Students under 18 years of age have specific visa requirements. Parental permission If you are under 18 years of age, your parents and/or anyone who can legally decide where you can live must give permission for you to study in Australia. If any of these people cannot sign your student visa application on your behalf, they must sign one of the following:  

a statutory declaration giving their permission. You must submit this declaration with your application. Accommodation and welfare arrangements If you are under 18 years of age, you must have acceptable arrangements for your accommodation, support and general welfare for the duration of your student visa or until you turn 18 (whichever happens first). You must show that you will either:  

live in Australia with your parent or legal custodian live in Australia with a relative over 21 years of age who is nominated by your parent or legal custodian  live in Australia under a welfare arrangement that has been approved by your education provider. Welfare provided by a parent or legal custodian If your parent or legal custodian will be providing welfare for you during your stay in Australia this should be indicated on your application form. You can arrange to bring a parent or legal custodian to Australia as your carer on a Student Guardian visa. See: Bringing family Welfare provided by a relative If a relative will be providing welfare for you during your stay in Australia your parents and/or legal custodians will need to give their permission for this arrangement on your application form and your relative must be nominated. brother or sister stepbrother or stepsister step-parent grandparent step-grandparent aunt or uncle step-aunt or step-uncle niece or nephew step-niece or step-nephew spouse.

They must also:   

You can also arrange to bring a relative to Australia as your guardian on a Student Guardian visa. See: Bringing family Welfare provided by an education provider Your parents and/or legal custodians can give their permission on your application form for your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements to be provided by your education provider. If your welfare is being approved by your education provider you will need to submit with your application a signed statement from the provider which confirms the start and end dates of these welfare arrangements. This letter is called a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation/Welfare Arrangements (CAAW) letter and if granted, your visa end date will correspond with the welfare dates on the letter. If you are already in Australia when you lodge an application you need to show evidence of adequate arrangements for welfare when you lodge your student visa application. See: Bringing family If your welfare arrangements are approved by your education provider you cannot travel to Australia until your welfare arrangements commence. Your welfare arrangements commence on the welfare start date that your education provider has nominated on the CAAW. Note: Education providers are not obliged to approve friends or other relatives as an accommodation provider for you. Change of welfare arrangements It is a requirement of your visa that appropriate welfare arrangements be maintained during your stay in Australia. If you do not maintain adequate welfare arrangements during your stay in Australia your student visa may be cancelled. If you intend to change your welfare arrangements at any time you must have written approval for this change. Depending on your circumstances, this approval must come from either your parents/legal custodian or your education provider and the department must be notified. If you are changing your welfare arrangements from education provider approved arrangements to welfare provided by a relative, you must lodge a completed form 157N with the department. Australian Values Statement If you are aged 18 years or over, you must declare that you will respect Australian values and obey the laws of Australia. For this visa, the values statement is included in the general declaration section of the application form. When you sign the application form it means you will also be signing the values statement. You will not be required to have read the Life in Australia book, but may do so if you wish. Declaring family members

Your family members are only eligible to accompany you to Australia if your course is 12 months or longer except under certain circumstances. See Bringing family for more information. You must declare all family members on your application, even if they do not plan to travel with you to Australia. If you do not do this, your family members will not be eligible for the grant of student visas as your dependants to join you in Australia. An exception to this is if they became your family members after your student visa was granted and before a subsequent application is made. You must also provide proof of your relationship to each family member such as officially issued birth and marriage certificates. Your family members must meet the specific visa requirements to be eligible for this visa as student dependants.

Genuine temporary entrant requirement Your dependent family member’s individual circumstances must demonstrate that your dependent family member genuinely intends to stay in Australia temporarily. The factors that are considered during assessment of the genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement include:    

your dependent family member's personal circumstances in your home country your dependent family member's potential circumstances in Australia your dependent family member's immigration history any other matter that is relevant to your dependent family member's intention to remain in Australia temporarily.

If your dependent family member is a minor the intentions of their parent, legal guardian or spouse will also be considered. The information provided in your application form and supporting documentation will be used to assess the GTE requirement. Financial requirements It is your responsibility to ensure that you have enough money to support your family members while they are in Australia.

Health requirements Your dependent family members must meet certain health requirements and may need to undergo a health examination. The requirements vary based on:  

length of stay in Australia other health risks in home country or countries visited for more than three months within the last five years.

Note: Health examinations can be completed before you lodge your visa application, but no more than six months before your course starts.

Health insurance Your family members must have health insurance while in Australia. You can include them in your Overseas Student Health Cover, which provides medical and hospital insurance. See: Overseas Student Health Cover – Frequently Asked Questions Proof of insurance: When you lodge your application, you must provide a receipt or other proof of your health insurance payment covering your family members. Character requirements Your family members must be of good character to enter Australia. The information provided on the Character Declaration section of your application, will be used to assess the character of your family members. See: Character and penal clearance requirements

Australian Values Statement All visa applicants aged 18 years or over, must declare that they will respect Australian values and obey the laws of Australia. For applicants of this visa, the values statement is included in the general declaration section of the application form. By signing the form applicants will also be signing the values statement. Applicants for this visa will not be required to have read the Life in Australia book, but may do so if they want. You must meet the following financial requirements. Travel, tuition and living expenses The table below outlines the amounts in Australian dollars (AUD) that you need access to. The department must be satisfied that an applicant, once in Australia, will have genuine access to the funds they claim to possess to cover the travel, tuition and living costs for themselves and their family members. You must have enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your partner and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia. You must: 



show proof that you can meet these financial requirements for the first 12 months of your stay in Australia. Note: If you have completed 75 percent of your course and are applying for a subsequent student visa, you do not need to show your savings history. declare on your application that you can meet these financial requirements for the remainder of your stay in Australia.



Acceptable sources of income The money to support you and your family members must come from one or more acceptable sources, which may include:          

a money deposit with a financial institution held by you, or an eligible family member, for at least three consecutive months immediately before the date of your visa application a loan from a financial institution made to you or an eligible family member a loan from your government your proposed education provider the Australian Government or an Australian State or Territory government the government of a foreign country a provincial or state government of a foreign country that has the written support of the national government of the foreign country an organisation gazetted by the Ministe an acceptable non-profit organisation a multilateral agency. Examples: United Nations, World Bank or Asian Development Bank

Note: Non-cash assets such as property and shares are not acceptable sources of income. However, non-cash assets may be liquidated or used as collateral on a loan, if they are provided by an acceptable source. Note: An eligible family member includes:      

the applicant the applicant's partner the applicant's parents the applicant's grandparents the applicant's brothers or sisters an uncle or aunt of the applicant who is: o an Australian citizen, and Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen and o usually resident in Australia. Fully Funded Students If you are a fully funded student, you must show evidence that the sponsoring agency, government or organisation will cover the cost of:  

travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself and dependent family members accompanying you to Australia supporting your dependent family members remaining in your home country, taking into consideration the local standard of living. Note: If family members later decide to join you in Australia, you must show evidence of extra funds from an acceptable source to cover their travel, tuition and living expenses in Australia.

Prepaid boarding or homestay fees If you are boarding or have entered into homestay arrangements with your education provider and have prepaid your boarding or homestay fees, the amount you have prepaid can be deducted from the total amount of living costs you must demonstrate to the department. You will need to show evidence to the department of the boarding or homestay fees as separate from the tuition fees. Example: A contract or an authorised receipt of payment from your education provider. Note: Only formal boarding or homestay arrangements will be accepted by the department. Prepayment of private boarding or homestay arrangements or rent will not be deducted from the living cost requirement.

Providing evidence of deposits or loans You need to show evidence of how the money to fund your studies was accumulated. If your source of income is a money deposit held in a bank account, you must provide the following evidence:   

pay slips bank loan documents interest from investments.

If your source of income is a loan, you must provide the following evidence:  

a bank statement showing the amount of available credit a statement from the holder of the loan that its purpose is to support your studies. Note: If your source of income is a home loan with a redraw facility from an Australian financial institution, the funds from the redraw facility may be considered a loan. A home loan with a redraw facility from a non-Australian financial institution may be acceptable, but must be considered on a case-bycase basis.



Financial support from a non-profit organization A non-profit organisation providing you with financial support must be lawfully established and operating in Australia or overseas. You must show evidence of the organisation's non-profit status, including:  

statement from the Australian Taxation Office showing organisation's status documents of incorporation as a non-profit organisation.

You must also show evidence that the organisation has sufficient funds or income to support you financially. Evidence may include: 

bank statements



financial statements.

Supporting family members when studying for less than 12 months If you are applying to study in Australia for less than 12 months, your family members are not eligible to come with you to Australia. However, you must show that you have enough funds to support your family members in your home country, taking into consideration the standard cost of living in that country.

OBLIGATIONS Student

You must uphold your visa conditions while studying and living in Australia or your visa may be cancelled and you may have to leave Australia.

Course enrolment, attendance and progress You must remain enrolled in a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). See: CRICOS You must maintain satisfactory attendance in your course as required by your education provider. You must make satisfactory course progress for each study period. Your education provider will advise the department if your attendance or course progress is not satisfactory. The definition of 'satisfactory' is determined by your education provider.

Changing your education provider

Providing your home address You must advise your education provider of your home address within seven days of arriving in Australia. Also, if you change your address during your stay in Australia, you must advise your education provider within seven days. Note: Your education provider needs your home address so they can contact you if you do not satisfy the requirements of your course. If they cannot contact you, this could result in your student visa being cancelled.

'No further stay' or 'further stay restricted' condition Some visas are issued with a 'no further stay' or 'further stay restricted' condition. This condition means that you cannot apply to stay in Australia beyond the date specified on your visa, except in certain circumstances. Limited circumstances may include students who want to apply for:  a student visa with permission to work (using Form 157P or 157P internet)  a student visa that is supported by a sponsoring government agency  a Student Guardian visa  a visa to engage Australia's protection obligations. Students under 18 years of age If you are under 18 years of age you must maintain your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements for the duration of your visa or until you turn 18. If your welfare arrangements are approved by your education provider you can not travel to Australia until your welfare arrangements commence. The date your welfare arrangements commence is the welfare start date that your education provider has nominated on the Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation/Welfare Arrangements (CAAW) letter.

If your welfare arrangements change after your visa has been granted you must inform the department of these changes. If your parents/legal custodian approved your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements for you to stay with a relative in Australia, you must have their written approval to change these arrangements. See: Form 157N Nomination of a student guardian (171KB PDF) If your education provider approved your accommodation, support and general welfare arrangements, you must have the education provider's written approval to change these arrangements.

Financial capacity You must maintain enough money to pay for travel, tuition and living expenses for yourself, your partner and your dependent children for the duration of your stay in Australia.

School age family members Any family members of school age (between five and 18 years) living in Australia must attend school in Australia.

Health insurance You must maintain health insurance for you and your family members while in Australia. Health insurance can be provided by obtaining Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides medical and hospital insurance. See: Visa conditions for Student visa holders

Your dependant family members must maintain their visa conditions. A breach of these conditions may result in your visa being cancelled and you may have to leave Australia. Your family members must:     

remain a member of your family for the duration of their stay in Australia have adequate financial support maintain adequate health cover work no more than 40 hours per fortnight attend school if they are of school age.

Important: It is your responsibility to ensure that your family members meet the above conditions.

'No further stay' or 'further stay restricted' condition Some visas are issued with a 'no further stay' or 'further stay restricted' condition. This condition means that you cannot apply to stay in Australia beyond the date specified on your visa, except in certain circumstances. Limited circumstances may include students who want to apply for:    
