STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Whether or not to follow the recommended solution of the staff in the new problem solving system, which is to replace Mr. Padua.

To come up with the best solution that will benefit Mr. Padua, his staff and the corporation, as a whole. To develop a good working relationship within the corporation, particularly, the Fruit Puree Division.

AREAS OF CONSIDERATION Internal Factors 1. Mr. Padua is the Director of the Management Services Division for six years. 2. Mr. Padua has gained professional experience from various industries and has technical expertise. 3. He has social deficiencies. 4. He has attended the Dale Carnegie’s course. 5. The company is endorsing a new problem solving system to enable groups to identify a problem and recommend a solution.

ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION 1. Retain Mr. Padua in his position but let him know the result of the system so that he will have the chance to adjust his behavior in the workplace and make it more appropriate. 

Advantages – Mr. Padua will keep his position and at the same time the staff will know that their recommendation has been considered.



Disadvantages – There is a possibility that Mr. Padua will not be affected with the result and will not change at all.

Advantages – Through this activity, they will come to know about each other’s personalities which will make them understand and appreciate each other more.



Disadvantages – This activity is dependent on the individual participation.

3. Transfer Mr. Padua to another division that requires minimal social interaction.

Advantage – Mr. Padua will occupy a position that suits his personality more and his staff will be happy that their recommended solution was implemented.



Disadvantage – There is no assurance that there will be an available position where Mr. Padua can be transferred.

RECOMMENDATION Before going to the extent of replacing Mr. Padua, as recommended by the staff in the new problem solving system, we suggest the top management to exhaust first all possible means to improve Mr. Padua’s behavior, considering he has been the Management Services Director of the fruit Puree Division for six years. Thus, we recommend retaining Mr. Padua because he is a valuable asset to the corporation and it would be difficult to look for someone with the same calibre to replace him. Also, the result of the system will be made known to him so that he will have the chance to adjust his behavior in the workplace and make it more appropriate. Consequently, to help improve the working relationship between Mr. Padua and his staff, we also recommend top management to organize a team building activity for their division.

ACTION PLAN I.

Schedule a meeting with Mr. Padua to inform him about the result of the new problem solving system. II. Plan and schedule a team building activity. III. Identify the suitable team building activity for the Mr. Padua and his staff. IV. Choose the fitting personnel who will conduct the chosen team building activity V. Team Building Activity VI. Evaluate whether or not the team building activity resulted to a better working relationship in Mr. Padua’s division.
