Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex Creative Car Parks Our aim is to offer the total package of waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutions for car park refurbishment and new build construction projects. Through a combination of high technology systems and our extensive range of design opportunities, the car park environment can be totally transformed. Triflex has been manufacturing waterproofing, surfacing and protection systems for more than 25 years, and systems specifically for car parks for more than 20 years. Our expertise in terms of both refurbishment and new build applications ensures that you can be confident you have selected the right partner.

What makes a successful car park? Whatever the use of the car park, the users are the key and for a car park to be successful their demands need to be met. Users expect car parks to be light, bright and clearly laid out in order that they feel personally safe and welcomed, and feel secure in the knowledge that their personal property is being looked after.

Why does it matter?

‘Car parks are for people’

First impressions count. A light, bright, safe, user friendly car park with attention to colour and design says a lot about what you think about the users. A car park which is dark and dismal ensures that if given the choice, potential users will park elsewhere.

Designing car parks for the people who use them A successful car park needs to be well designed and look good. To assist in the transformation process, and to provide the maximum range of design options, Triflex can produce computer generated visualisatons. This allows you to try innovative designs and colours, and identify potential opportunities in advance. And then, when we’ve helped you create the ideal design for your own and your users needs, we’ll put our sophisticated materials to work to turn the concept into reality.

Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex PDS (Park Deck System) Exposed car park and service decks over occupied premises must provide a high level of protection to the structure and property beneath, and a durable, safe, aesthetically pleasing surface finish capable of withstanding long term trafficking. Triflex has more than 20 years experience in providing long term waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutions for exposed car park and service decks over occupied premises whether new build or refurbishment. The exceptional durability of our systems also allows areas such as ramps over occupied premises to be comprehensively protected.

The problems Exposed car park decks are often: Inadequately protected from water ingress and environmental damage, for example Chlorides and Carbon Dioxide, leading to long term structural damage and damage to property Surfaced with unsuitable, low technology materials, or thin coat systems which are incapable of providing both the waterproofing and a durable, aesthetically pleasing surface finish. The consequences of under specification are system failure after a relatively short period of time Difficult for drivers and pedestrians to use effectively due to a lack of colour and design options Difficult to clean and maintain

The Triflex solution The BBA approved Triflex PDS (Park Deck System) provides exposed car park decks with exceptional protection from environmental, mechanical and physical damage, while offering almost limitless design options.

Ramps and service decks The Triflex PDS - Ramp variant provides optimum traction and abrasion resistance characteristics, improving safety and ensuring the maximum system durability in these high wear areas.

The heavy duty, thick layer, fully reinforced Triflex PDS has been designed and developed over more than 20 years to fulfil the specific demands of the most demanding exposed parking areas, whether in refurbishment or new build applications.

Triflex also has significant experience in providing waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutions to service decks and car park decks trafficked by Heavy Goods Vehicles. Based on this experience we are able to offer overlay solutions and specific design advice to ensure that all areas can be treated with total confidence.

Triflex PDS

NBS Triflex PDS NBS (the National Building Specification) is the most authoritative and widely used system for specifying products and workmanship for construction projects. It is a comprehensive library of written specification clauses supported with extensive guidance notes. Instead of a specification being written “from scratch” clauses are selected by the specifier, so that the final document is produced in a format which is widely recognised as the UK industry standard. Triflex (UK) Limited are integrated into the National Building Specification (NBS) Plus Specification Manager & Specification Writer packages. NBS Plus is an electronic library of participating building manufacturers’ products linked to relevant clauses. It enables the insertion of correct, concise product details directly into an NBS project specification. These details are written in a format that integrates the product information with the specification clause more easily, thus saving the specifier valuable time and producing a clear unambiguous proprietary specification.

The systems can be specified in a wide range of colours to suit aesthetic and design requirements. For further details of the colours and finishes available, consult the Triflex Car Park colour chart available from Triflex (UK) Limited. For internal car park decks refer to the Triflex DFS. Triflex systems are only installed by Triflex (UK) Limited approved contracting partners. Consult Triflex (UK) Limited for technical advice and information on the treatment of specific details. Preparation: Consult Triflex technical literature for details of substrate preparation. Waterproof coating: Triflex PDS: Aggregate ... Colour... Triflex PDS - Ramp: Traction strips ... Colour...

Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex DFS (Deck Floor System) Car parks are important, particularly when attached to retail or offices as they can often be your customers’ or clients’ first contact point. Creating the right impression can ensure repeat business, a favourable first impression and possibly increased parking revenue. Ground floor and internal decks are the most commonly used decks in the majority of car parks and their importance should not be ignored. Many decks may require structural protection and surfacing, however even ground floor levels where protection may not be an issue can benefit from a highly durable, aesthetically pleasing surface treatment. Triflex has more than 20 years experience in providing long term waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutions for internal and external car park decks. Our thick layer DFS ensures even the most difficult of substrates can be transformed. Subject to a conditional survey, the DFS - External variant can be specified in place of the Triflex PDS for multi-storey top decks which are not over occupied premises.

The problems Internal and external car park decks are often: Dark, dismal uninviting environments Inadequately protected from water ingress and environmental damage, for example Chlorides and Carbon Dioxide, resulting in expensive structural damage Surfaced with unsuitable, low technology materials, or thin coat systems which do not provide a long term, durable, aesthetically pleasing surface finish Patchy and uneven as a result of surface wear Difficult for drivers and pedestrians to use effectively due to poor design and signage Difficult to clean and maintain

The Triflex solution The Triflex DFS (Deck Floor System) provides internal and external car park decks with exceptional protection from environmental, mechanical and physical damage, while offering almost limitless design options. Although ground floor decks may not have the same structural protection requirements, the System will transform the environment for users.

External decks and ramps The Triflex DFS - External variant allows the economical waterproofing and surfacing of multi-storey top decks provided that they are not over occupied premises. The Triflex DFS - Ramp variant provides optimum traction and abrasion resistance characteristics, improving safety and ensuring the maximum system durability in these high wear areas.

The heavy duty, thick layer Triflex DFS is suitable for almost any substrate likely to be encountered in the car park environment both during refurbishment and new build. The thick layer system can mask deck imperfections and profiles which would reflect through thin coat systems. At Triflex we understand that the majority of wear generally occurs on the ground floor, internal decks and ramps. The Triflex DFS is designed to withstand this mechanical stress

Benefits DURABILITY - The DFS is a heavy duty, thick layer system with a dry film thickness greater than 4mm. With its' fully aggregate filled wearing course, the DFS is suitable for the waterproofing and surfacing, or surfacing only of heavily trafficked ground floor, internal and external car park decks PROTECTION - In addition to offering heavy duty surfacing, the DFS offers waterproofing and protection from the ingress of Carbon Dioxide and Chlorides to what are often neglected decks. The system can withstand the stresses from thermal expansion and contraction, frost and UV radiation and is resistant to all common automotive fluids THICK LAYER - The 4mm thick system helps mask deck imperfections, providing a more aesthetically pleasing, easier to maintain system. The system thickness allows even profiled substrates such as lightly tamped concrete, heavily brushed concrete or crimped asphalt to be overlaid without the original profile reflecting through COMPATIBILITY - The system can be used to overlay concrete, asphalt, HRA, SMA and some existing membranes subject to testing RAPID CURE TIMES - Allowing maximum flexibility in approach and the minimum disruption to the client and users. The maximum cure time before trafficking by vehicles of any of the system components is 3 hours LOW TEMPERATURES - The system will cure at temperatures as low as 0°C DETAILING - Fully reinforced details can be incorporated at upstands, transitions etc. to provide total waterproofing COLOURS - Our range of finish options, and special colours ensure the clients' aesthetic requirements can be fulfilled. Dedicated pedestrian walkways and safe zones, together with colour coding can be incorporated from the design stage JOINTS - The system can be combined with the Triflex projoint system to provide single source liability for the total waterproofing and surfacing package RAMPS - For these areas, the Triflex DFS - Ramp offers optimum abrasion resistance and traction characteristics through the use of a basalt split aggregate and optional traction strips CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE - The hard wearing DFS can be easily cleaned and maintained using conventional methods

Triflex DFS

NBS Triflex DFS NBS (the National Building Specification) is the most authoritative and widely used system for specifying products and workmanship for construction projects.

For car park decks over occupied premises refer to the Triflex PDS system. Triflex systems are only installed by Triflex (UK) Limited approved contracting partners. Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex DCS (Deck Coating Systems) In certain circumstances, where internal car park decks are new or in good condition, the main requirement may be to create an aesthetically pleasing environment, with a safe, anti-skid surface rather than to provide structural protection. The Triflex Deck Coating Systems are designed to provide an economical alternative to the Triflex DFS for these projects, and can be used in isolation or combination with our other car park systems.

Suitability As thinner layer systems, Triflex Deck Coating Systems are only suitable for smoother substrates, in low and medium volume car park environments. In high volume car parks, such as those directly connected to retail, the heavier duty Triflex DFS is recommended. Deck Coating Systems are particularly suitable for smooth, power floated concrete decks which can cause a potential slip hazard when wet.

Further information Please contact Triflex directly to discuss the suitability of our range of coating systems for particular applications.

Triflex UPS (Underground Parking Systems) Underground parking is already common in our cities and is set to become more popular as the demand for space increases. Due to the lack of natural light, underground car parks are often dark, claustrophobic and uninviting.

The solution A combination of Anti-Carbonation coatings to the walls, columns and soffits, together with bright, light reflective coatings to the decks can totally transform the underground parking environment.

Systems The majority of Triflex systems: Triflex ACS, Triflex Colorcret, Triflex DFS and the Triflex Deck Coating Systems can be used in underground car parks. Please refer to the relevant sections of this manual for further system details.

Triflex DMS

Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex DMS (Dynamic Marking System) Within many car parks, users are confronted with situations which can be confusing, frustrating and in some cases potentially dangerous. Many of these problems are as a result of poor deck markings and signage. Creating the right impression and ensuring smooth, safe traffic flow is important, and much of this can be achieved through the application of well designed, exceptionally durable dynamic markings to the decks. Triflex has a dedicated road marking materials division which has been serving the most demanding markets in Europe for more than 20 years. By using these materials in combination with colour and design, markings can become an integral part of the car park transformation, with no requirement for short term renewal.

The problems In the majority of car parks, the markings are: Of poor quality, wearing out in a relatively short period of time and requiring regular replacement. If the original markings are not removed prior to replacement, the resultant build up is unsightly Difficult to see, particularly when badly worn Visually unexciting with white and yellow being the only commonly used colours Difficult to understand due to the use of small symbols and difficult to read signage Not used to provide assistance with deck identification and location

The Triflex solution The Triflex DMS (Dynamic Marking System) addresses all of these problems and if used in a Dynamic design, can help to transform the parking environment for users. The vibrant colour range of the DMS ensures that the markings can be either matched to or contrasted against existing colour schemes and corporate designs.

The problems

The heavy duty DMS is suitable for application to almost any substrate likely to be encountered in the car park environment and can be used stand alone or in combination with other Triflex car park systems.

The wide range of Triflex road marking systems includes fast curing spray applied line markings, profiled markings and cycle route markings. The Triflex Cryl M264 material can be used to provide traction and wear strips on car park ramps. For further information, please contact Triflex directly.

Quality installation Due to the required quality of installation to meet our standards, the Triflex DMS is only installed directly onto Triflex systems by our approved contracting partners. For projects involving markings only, we are prepared to consider a clients' preferred marking contractor provided assurances for quality and training can be met.

Design assistance At Triflex we have built up experience of designs which offer a combination of visual impact, user friendliness and cost effectiveness. This information and advice can be passed on to all involved in the design process. Through the use of computer generated visualisations, we can also demonstrate the transformation which can be achieved through the innovative use of colourful, well designed deck markings and signage.

Please note: There may be slight variations in shade between actual colours and those shown here. This is unavoidable due to printing technology and the nature of the material.

Further information Please refer to the Triflex DMS System Data Sheet or request specific information from Triflex or an approved contracting partner. To print a copy of the System Data Sheet, please use the Triflex Systems CD provided inside the back cover.

Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex ACS (Anti-Carbonation Systems) Car parks are important not only as investments, but to the people who use them. To obtain the maximum long term benefit from the investment and to avoid the requirement for costly and disruptive concrete repairs, the structure needs to be protected. To ensure continued use, the public need to be provided with a light, bright environment in which they feel both themselves and their property will be safe. In many car parks, the concrete walls, columns and soffits are either unprotected, or treated with standard masonry paints which may offer little or no structural protection. If untreated, the surfaces quickly become contaminated resulting in a dark, uninviting environment for users. The Triflex range of Anti Carbonation Systems has been developed to provide proven structural protection in combination with vastly improved aesthetics, with a choice of materials dependent upon protection requirements and budget.

The problems Untreated walls, columns and soffits: Are vulnerable to the damaging ingress of Carbon Dioxide, Chlorides and water. The resultant structural damage from long term exposure can result in serious safety issues, and can be extremely expensive and disruptive to repair Can create a dark, dismal environment in which users do not feel safe. Dark car parks are known to suffer increased levels of personal and property crime which will influence users to take their business elsewhere Appear decayed and neglected as a result of soot deposits and differential weathering, creating an unattractive, light absorbing environment Walls, columns and soffits treated with standard masonry type coatings although offering an aesthetic improvement will not give the level of protection provided by dedicated Anti Carbonation Systems

The Triflex solution Graphics, colour coding and signage

The Triflex ACS and Colorcret systems address these problems, offering long term structural protection from environmental damage, and a light, bright, safe environment for users. The Triflex Anti Carbonation Systems are suitable for application to concrete and masonry, and can be applied directly to existing treatments.

In addition to our Anti Carbonation Coatings, Triflex can provide vibrant, glossy coatings for wall and column graphics, colour banding and signage.

Protection not paint When comparing the Triflex Anti Carbonation Systems against proprietary masonry type paints, it is important to consider their purpose and what they have been designed for. The Triflex Systems are designed primarily to protect concrete and masonry, whereas the majority of ‘masonry paints’ are designed merely to colour or brighten the substrate. When considering the future of any concrete or masonry structure, protection must be the priority.

Maintenance Data Sheet

Maintenance and care For the Triflex car park waterproofing, surfacing and protection systems General Triflex car park waterproofing, surfacing and protection systems are designed to avoid the requirement for regular maintenance as far as possible. As a matter of good housekeeping, it is recommended that a car park is inspected annually - ideally just before winter. Internally (if over occupied premises): Check for signs of condensation, moisture or leaks e.g. wet patches, stains etc. Externally: Check all details visually to ensure a sound bond to the substrate. Check the membrane, where exposed, for mechanical or chemical damage. Remove any debris from the deck area, and all items which could cause damage to the membrane. Check and clean outlets, drainage points, gutters, downspouts etc. Carefully remove any plant growth. Check other building components e.g. barriers, parapet walls, etc. for soundness. Any observations that require attention should be reported to the Triflex approved contractor who installed the system.

Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Maintenance Data Sheet Pressure Washing Manually brush away any loose particles, general dust, dirt etc. Ensure all outlets, drainage points, gutters and downspouts are clear and free from any blockage. Triflex deck systems: Apply a cold or warm water pressure wash with detergent in solution. The head of the water lance should be kept at least 500mm away from the Triflex surface at all times and the pressure should be restricted to less than 1500psi. (Triflex anti-carbonation systems: 500psi). Preferably leave the detergent solution on the surface for approximately 15 minutes. For stubborn areas of dirt, gently brush or mop the surface after the detergent has been applied. Rinse the surface with clean, cold water. The head of the water lance should be kept at least 500mm away from the Triflex surface at all times and the pressure should be restricted to less than 1500psi. (Triflex anti-carbonation systems: 500psi). Squeegee excess water from the surface to outlets, gullies etc.

Floor Scrubbing Machines Repair Areas of mechanical damage should be repaired by the original installer as soon as possible after they became evident. The Triflex approved contractor should consult Triflex (UK) Limited for approved repair methods.

Additions and Removals Prior to additions or removals taking place which may affect the integrity of the installed Triflex system, Triflex (UK) Limited to be contacted for approved methods.

Subject to prior approval of equipment and methods by Triflex (UK) Limited, floor scrubbing machines with single large diameter heads may be used to clean the Triflex car park systems.

Mechanical scrubber driers Subject to prior approval of equipment and methods by Triflex (UK) Limited, mechanical scrubber driers may be used to clean the Triflex car park systems.

Note: Water temperature should not exceed 50°C

General Protection Where Triflex treated areas are likely to suffer damage or contamination from other trades during subsequent or other works, suitable precautions should be taken to protect the installed system.

Cleaning Should the deck require regular cleaning, we recommend the following methods.

Only detergents or degreasant approved by Triflex (UK) Limited should be used Cleaning methods and materials not in accordance with Triflex guidelines may affect any warranty. The advice we can provide on the cleaning and maintenance of our products is based on many years of experience and is given to the best of our knowledge. However, the wide variety of requirements for a building under the most diverse conditions mean that it is necessary for the maintenance contractor or individual to test the method or product for suitability in any given case. We reserve the right to make alterations in keeping with technical developments or improvements.
