One reached its customers for new offers through postal mail. They had 2 kinds of postal services, A class and C class. In A Class, if the customer had changed his address then the postal service would update the address on the letter and it would reach the customer at the new address. In C Class, if the address is changed then the customer would not get the mail. I was supposed to tell which one of the postal service was better in two conditions, 1st when no. of mail to be made is fixed and 2nd when amount to be spend in mailing is fixed." I was asked to analyze a scheme in which Pizza Hut is considering the option of giving 30% discount to customers to which it is unable to deliver in time (30 minutes) instead of the free pizza (100% discount) option. The revenues and market size in both cases was calculated. The profits for both cases and break even point was calculated (on the basis of the no of customers that the firm can afford to lose to have the same overall profit in the second case.) The interviewer was looking for the term ‘profitability’ to explain the results obtained through calculations. That was a take away. After the interview, the interviewer (who was an IIMA alumni) discussed (for 15 mins) the scheduling process of the placement cell and suggested the dream job funda as is followed in IIMs.

Also, If possible, keep one or two options ready beforehand (Ph.D., MBA, civil services, startup/family business) in case you are not able to crack a good job as it prevents you from getting panic. Also, if you are shortlisted in multiple companies in a single slot, do take a friend with you to manage everything. Never be overconfident if you have a very good CV. There have been various instances where many so-called high profile people have struggled with placements due to lack of preparation. Also, do not waste your time preparing for all the sectors, as you won’t be able to become a master in any of them.

Interview Started with a “Tell me something about your-self question”. I believe it was just to set the ball rolling and was not evaluated. The interviewer then gave me a case question wherein I had to make a choice between a diesel and a petrol car. There were 3 parts to the question (some candidates were asked 1 / 2 as well). The first dealt with finding the breakeven point given the basic set of cost, fuel price and fuel consumption data. Next was to find breakeven considering the money was acquired at a certain rate of interest (bond/loan). Both these

Skills Tested I was not hesitant and was reasonably confident while answering. What went wrong was perhaps the fact that I was caught unaware of how depreciation works and how it had to be included in the equation. I fumbled a lot with the equation and puzzled as to where to include terms for depreciation etc.

Exhausting journey as there were nearly 5 interviews in a span of 10 hours (through the night) with hardly any sleep in between. It'll definitely be a good learning experience irrespective of how things turn out. Keep in touch with aptitude. Decent speed in maths is necessary .Familiarization with Simple Interest and Profit Loss problems will come in handy during the interview stage.

I didn’t prepared much for the placements and was only focussed on CAT preparations during the seventh semester. 4. I did not give as much time in resume building as given by mates since I knew that I have nothing to mention about except my CPI. 5. CAT preparations helped me strengthen my aptitude and quant skills. 6. I was able to clear the tests of various companies just with my CAT knowledge. 7. I practised maths for entire month and was pretty confident in English and a week before the main exam, I did one or two mock papers daily.

There was test which was purely data analysis and calculator was allowed. So the procedure that they follow is that first they shortlist 50 people and a small case interview is followed. The case I was asked was to calculate the change in the cost of a grocery store if it has changed its model from cash on delivery with a physical store to an online portal which has cash on delivery option.
