WHITE FRONT OF BODY With White yarn: Chain 8 Row 1: sc in each ch, ch 1, turn Rows 2 – 3: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn Row 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc up to last sc, 2 sc in last sc Rows 5 – 6: sc in each sc Row 7: repeat row 4 Rows 8 – 9: sc in each sc Row 10: repeat row 4 Rows 11 – 18: sc in each sc, end off, leaving long tail for sewing onto front of kangaroo. Sew the front onto the body, small end up, using overcast stitch and yarn needle.

6 POUCH Chain 20 (beginning loop counts as one more ch so you’ll have 21 ch Row 1: sc in each ch, ch 1, turn. You should have approx 20 sc – this is not crucial. **NOTE: Each turning chain counts as 1 sc** Rnd 2: sc in each sc, ch 1, turn Row 3: sc 2 tog, sc up to last 2 sc, sc 2 tog, ch 1, turn - 18 sc Row 4: sc in each sc Row 5: same as row 3 – 16 sc Row 6: sc in each sc Row 7: same as row 3 – 14 sc Rows 8 – 10: sc in each sc, end off, leaving long tail for attaching to body. See photo of pouch after EAR instructions on page 7. Sew pouch onto body, with the wider part up and top edge even with row 16 of white part. **Note: sew the sides to the body just about ¼” past the white part. This will allow the pouch to bow out in front a little, giving room inside pouch to place baby later on** Sew legs onto body as shown, top edge of leg about 1/4” below upper edge of pouch, front top edge of leg overlapping the sides of the pouch about ½” as shown below.

7 Using the black yarn, and yarn needle, sew two stitches on ends of feet, separating the end of the foot into 3 toes as shown in photo below.

8 Sew ears onto head as shown, sewing them in a slight inward curve on top of the head about ½” apart. Cut out two little triangles the same shape as ears, except about ¼” smaller. Glue triangle inside ears as shown. Using Black yarn and yarn needle, sew nose on front of head, using graduated stitches beginning with a 5/8” stitch at 3rd row up from the starting point of head. Sew about 3 more stitches, ending with the smallest one about a little less than ¼” wide. Next take a stitch about ¼” down from low point of nose and take two ¼” stitches for the mouth. Sew or glue the eyes in place about halfway between nose and ears (a little closer to ears) Using the white yarn, sew a little circle around each eye, putting a little glue behind it to hold it in place.

Using 3-ply Black cotton yarn, take 3 tiny stitches on the front of the head for the nose and a tiny stitch below that for the mouth. Also using the Black cotton yarn, stitch around the end of each arm for his little black hands. (He was too small to crochet his hands with black 4-ply yarn as you did for his Mom) Now you can tuck the Joey in his Mom’s pouch where he will be nice and cozy. Hope you had fun!!!
