THE GAME The Cleveland Browns (2-4) travel to play the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3) this Sunday, Oct. 26 at 4:05 p.m. at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The Browns look to rebound following a 14-11 setback at Washington last Sunday, while the Jaguars are coming off their bye weekend. In the 14-11 loss in Washington, the Redskins scored twice in the second half with a Clinton Portis three-yard touchdown run and an 18-yard touchdown toss to WR Santana Moss to open a 14-3 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Browns mounted a comeback with a one-yard touchdown pass from QB Derek Anderson to WR Joshua Cribbs and converted a two-point conversion attempt to WR Braylon Edwards with 2:44 remaining in regulation. The Browns defense forced the Redskins to punt and provided the Browns offense one more opportunity. Anderson led the Browns in six plays down to the Redskins 36 yard line to set up a 54 yard game-tying field goal attempt by K Phil Dawson which missed wide right with 25 seconds remaining. In the contest, Anderson was 14 of 37 passing for 136 yards and one touchdown and RB Jamal Lewis rushed for 80 yards on 19 carries (4.2 avg.). Edwards led the club with four receptions for 58 yards (14.5 avg.). Defensively, the Browns forced one turnover as DB Eric Wright stripped Portis late in the fourth quarter, which was recovered by S Brodney Pool, and led to the Browns late touchdown. Sunday’s contest marks the 11th meeting between both franchises as the Browns are 2-8-0 in the regular season, including 2-3-0 on the road. The Browns have won the last two meetings in Jacksonville with a 21-20 road win on Dec. 8, 2002, and a 23-14 road victory on Sept. 30, 2001. Jacksonville earned a victory in the last contest on Dec. 4, 2004 with a 20-14 win in Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Browns and Jaguars began as division rivals in 1995 with the Jaguars inaugural season in the NFL as members of the AFC’s Central Division. With the Browns return in 1999, the two clubs were AFC Central Division rivals for three more seasons (1999-2001) before the NFL’s realignment in 2002. In that season Jacksonville moved to the AFC South with Indianapolis, Tennessee and Houston, while the Browns joined the AFC North with long-time rivals Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and the Baltimore Ravens.

ABOUT THE Jaguars

CLEVELAND BROWNS - ROMEO CRENNEL Romeo Crennel is entering his fourth season as Head Coach and was rewarded with a two-year contract extension (thru 2011) on Jan. 29, 2008. Crennel led the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007, including a franchisebest seven consecutive home wins, and witnessed six Browns selected to the Pro Bowl. Crennel’s offense developed into a highly productive unit and ranked eighth in the NFL in offense (5,621 net yards) and scoring (402 points). The output of net yards and scoring also ranked third best in franchise history. Crennel was named head coach of the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 8, 2005, the 11th full-time head coach in franchise history. Crennel returned to Cleveland in 2005, after serving as the Browns defensive coordinator in 2000, and along with Phil Savage helped rebuild the football operations. Crennel previously led the Browns to a respectable 6-10 record in his first year as a head coach and added a 4-12 mark in 2006. His resume includes 38 years of coaching experience, including 27 years in the NFL. Prior to rejoining the Browns, Crennel served as the defensive coordinator for New England (2001-04), helping the Patriots to three Super Bowl victories. From 1997-99, Crennel coached the defensive line on the New York Jets. He spent 12 years on the New York Giants coaching staff starting as the special teams and defensive assistant coach in 1981. Crennel began his professional coaching career in 1970 at his alma mater, Western Kentucky. He also saw stints at Texas Tech, Mississippi and Georgia Tech before entering the professional ranks. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - JACK DEL RIO Jack Del Rio was named the second head coach in Jaguars history on January 17, 2003. He is in his 23rd year in the NFL and his 12th in coaching. Through five seasons under Jack Del Rio, the Jacksonville defense ranks fourth in yards allowed (300.1 per game) and points allowed (18.2), while the offense is sixth in rushing yards (135.2) and second in fewest turnovers (114). In 2007, Del Rio’s squad is posted an 11-5 regular season record to earn its second playoff berth in three years, in addition to the franchise’s first playoff win since the 1999 season. Del Rio was only one year removed from taking the Carolina Panthers defense from last in the league to second overall as defensive coordinator of the Panthers in 2002. From 1999 to 2001, Del Rio served as linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens, helping the team win Super Bowl XXXV over the New York Giants. For those three years, in which the Ravens finished second in total defense three times, Del Rio coached the Ravens’ talented linebacker corps which featured Ray Lewis, the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 and the MVP of Super Bowl XXXV. Del Rio began his coaching career in New Orleans under Mike Ditka, spending two seasons as assistant strength coach in 1997 and linebackers coach in 1998.

The Jaguars come off their bye week with a 3-3 record. Jacksonville defeated Denver 24-17 in its last contest. QB David Garrard is 122-of-183 for 1,259 yards on the season with 4 TDs and 4 INTs. RBs Maurice Jones-Drew (301 yards) and Fred Taylor (242 yards) lead the rushing attack. WR Matt Jones leads the team with 30 receptions for 338 yards. JonesDrew has added 21 catches for 184 yards.

Defense Getting Turnovers With a +5 turnover ratio, the Browns rank tied for third in the NFL. Cleveland has totalled nine interceptions on the season with DB Eric Wright leading the squad with three. The defense has also recovered three fumbles. The Cleveland defense ranks seventh in the league in passing yards allowed per game with an average of 156.5 per contest. In addition, the Browns have not allowed a 100-yard receiver this season and no quarterback has thrown more than one TD pass vs. Cleveland.

14 or Fewer The Cleveland defense has allowed 14 or fewer points in four of its six games this season. Last season, the Browns defense allowed 14 or fewer points in three games. The Browns defense ranks seventh in the league in points allowed with an average of 17.7 points per game.

Scoreless Streak Snapped The Browns posted back-to-back scoreless halves in the second half against the Giants on Oct. 13 and in the first half against Washington on Oct. 19. After WR Plaxico Burress scored on a 3-yard pass from Eli Manning with 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter, the Browns went 62:44 without allowing a point until RB Clinton Portis found the endzone on a 3-yard run with 12:28 in the third quarter.

he Jaguars were victorious in the first six games of the series before the Browns notched their first win, 23-14, in 2001. Dating back to 1995, both teams met twice each year (’95, ’99, ’00, ‘01) before the NFL split each conference into four divisions. Jacksonville won the last meeting between the teams, taking home a 20-14 decision at Cleveland on December 4, 2005.

Jaguars QB David Garrard completed 11-of-20 passes for 116 yards, 2 TDs and one INT to lead the Jaguars to a 20-14 victory over the Browns, starting in place of the injured QB Byron Leftwich. QB Charlie Frye, making his first career start, found WR Braylon Edwards for a 34-yard TD with 10:41 remaining in the second quarter for his first NFL TD pass and a 7-3 lead. Frye and Edwards connected again with 44 seconds remaining in the half to claim a 14-3 edge at the break. Jacksonville’s opening drive of the third quarter stalled at the Browns 11, forcing the Jaguars to settle for a 29-yard field goal by K Josh Scobee, cutting the deficit to 14-6. The Browns offense then sputtered and the Jaguars came to life, as Garrard found TE George Wrighster and WR Jimmy Smith, respectively, for TD passes on the Jaguars next two possessions. The 20-14 lead would stand through the fourth quarter. RB Reuben Droughns reached 1,000 rushing yards for the season in the second quarter and finished the day with 88 yards on 30 carries, while Jaguars RB Greg Jones gained 103 yards on 27 carries. Frye’s 136.7 rating set a Browns rookie single-game record.

Browns-Jaguars CONNECTIONS COACHES CORNER: Four current Browns coaches have ties to the Jacksonville Jaguars; strength and conditioning coach Tom Myslinski played for the Jaguars in 1998 while linebackers coach Mike Haluchak and running backs coach Anthony Lynn were coaches during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts coached at Jacksonville from 2003-06.

WE GOT GATORS: Browns LB Andra Davis played his college ball at the University of Florida and was teammates with Jacksonville RB Fred Taylor and LB Mike Peterson during his stay in Gainesville. MORE FLORIDIANS: LB Kamerion Wimbley and FB/RB Greg Jones spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons together on the Florida State roster.

Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio played for several seasons in the NFL as a linebacker. The USC grad teamed with Browns tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts, playing together for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1988. Del Rio was also teammates with Roberts and assistant offensive line coach Mike Sullivan in Dallas during the 1991 season. Del Rio also served as a coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 1999-2001 when Phil Savage was with the organization, as did strength and conditioning coach Mark Asanovich in 2002 and defensive backs coach Donnie Henderson from 1999-2003.

MARYLAND MEN: While Browns LB D’Qwell Jackson was issuing punishing hits during his years at the University of Maryland, Jacksonville’s P Adam Podlesh took care of the punting. GOLDEN DOMERS: Browns QB Brady Quinn and Jaguars DT Derek Landry spent all four years together on the Notre Dame roster. THE SOONER THE BETTER: DB Brodney Pool spent three years (2002-04) at the University of Oklahoma and played with Jaguars LB Clint Ingram for all three years.

Assistant head coach/tight ends coach Mike Tice spent 10 seasons (1996-2005) on the sideline for the Minnesota Vikings and coached with senior offensive assistant coach Dave Atkins from 1997-99 and wide receivers coach Wes Chandler in 2005.

LAST WITH LOU: Jaguars WR Troy Williamson was a member of the South Carolina Gamecocks for two seasons (2002-03) with Browns DL Shaun Smith and was also part of the final Gamecocks squad to play under legendary coach Lou Holtz in 2004.

Jacksonville linebackers coach Mark Duffner coached with offensive assistant Frank Verducci for the Cincinnati Bengals from 1999-2001. Jacksonville running backs coach Kennedy Pola began his coaching career in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns in 2004.

VOLUNTEER WORK: Browns RB Jamal Lewis and WR Donte’ Stallworth spent one season (1999) together at the University of Tennessee and on that roster with them was Jaguars DT John Henderson.

Jaguars quarterbacks coach Mike Shula coached for three years (1993-1995) for the Chicago Bears while Tom Myslinski played for Chicago in 1993 and 1994.

VEGAS BABY!: Browns rookie LB Beau Bell was a member of the UNLV football team at the same time as Jacksonville TE Greg Estandia. KIND OF HOKIE: Jaguars S Pierson Piroleau was a teammate of Browns DB Nick Sorensen at Virginia Tech for all four of his years in Blacksburg.

Defensive Line Additions Paying Dividends Through the first six games, the addition of DL Shaun Rogers and DL Corey Williams have made a huge impact up front for the Browns. Rogers ranks third and leads all defensive lineman with 32 total tackles (22 solo and 8 asst.). Rogers has added 2.5 sacks, 2 TFLs and 7 QB pressures. Cribbs Scores First Offensive Touchdown

DB Eric Wright was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 15. Wright had three solo tackles, two passes defensed and one interception returned for a touchdown in Monday Night’s 35-14 win over the New York Giants on Oct. 13. In the contest, Wright’s fourth quarter interception sealed the victory as his 94-yard interception return for a touchdown turned a 13 point advantage into the 35-14 final. The interception return also was the fourth longest in club history.

WR/KR Joshua Cribbs scored his first career touchdown against the Redskins on a 1-yard pass from QB Derek Anderson on Oct. 19. The touchdown was the sixth of his career as he has added four kickoff return touchdowns and a punt return for a touchdown.

Wright currently is tied for fifth in the NFL with three interceptions. In six games this season, Wright ranks fifth on the club with 27 tackles, including 23 solo, leads the team with three interceptions and is tied for first on the club with four passes defensed. -5-

RB Jamal Lewis ranks fifth on the all-time career rushing list among active players. Among the top-5, Lewis has played in the fewest games and has the least attempts.

In the Browns 35-14 win over the Giants last Monday night, P Dave Zastudil enjoyed a quiet evening. The Browns offense did not have to punt, did not commit a turnover or allow a sack for the first time in club history. Since 1963, when sacks were officially recorded, there have only been four NFL games where an offense has not allowed a sack, committed a turnover or had to register a punt in a regular season game.

Head coach Romeo Crennel was voted the Motorola NFL Cach of the Week for Week 6. Crennel led the Browns to a 35-14 win over the undefeated Super Bowl champion New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Browns QB Derek Anderson threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns finding WR Braylon Edwards for 154 of those yards and one touchdown, while RB Jamal Lewis rushed for another touchdown and 88 yards. The Cleveland defense consistently pressured Giants QB Eli Manning leading to three picks by three different Browns defenders including a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown by CB Eric Wright.

Edwards Has Career Night WR Braylon Edwards set a career high with 154 receiving yards on five receptions and a touchdown against the Giants on Oct. 13. It marked the ninth career 100-yard receiving game for Edwards. His previous career best was 149 yards at Arizona on Dec. 12, 2007. Edwards hooked up with QB Derek Anderson for a 49-yard reception which led to a K Phil Dawson first quarter field goal. In the second quarter, Edwards broke free for a 70-yard catch before being taken down at the 4 yard line, which led to a RB Jamal Lewis touchdown. In the fourth quarter Anderson found Edwards in the back of the endzone for an 11-yard score to put the Browns up two scores.

Browns Getting Offensive In the 35-14 victory over the Giants on Oct. 13, the Browns set season highs for points (35), first downs (20), net yards (454), rushing yards (144), passing yards (310) and it marked the first time that the Browns were not sacked all season.

Defense Holds Opponents under 300 yards The Browns defense has limited three of its last five opponents under 300 yards of total offense. Cleveland held Pittsburgh to 281 yards, Baltimore to 273 and Cincinnati to 211. The last time the Browns held three consecutive opponents to under 300 yards of total offense came in the final three contests of 2007. Last year, the Browns only held three opponents under 300 yards all season.

Cleveland also converted on 9-of-13 third downs for a 69% success rate, also a season best.

D’Qwell Ties Career Best LB D’Qwell Jackson tied a personal best with 16* total tackles against the Giants on Oct. 13. Jackson was credited with 11 solo and 5 assists. Jackson also recorded 16 total tackles against Cincinnati on Nov. 26, 2006 and Carolina on Oct. 8, 2006. Jackson has finished first or second on the team in tackles each game this season and he leads the team with 55 total tackles this season.

The Browns defense limited the Bengals to just 69 yards rushing in the Browns 20-12 victory on Sept. 28. The 69 yards rushing was the least amount that the Browns have allowed since Romeo Crennel brought the 3-4 defense to Cleveland in 2005.

With Williams’ nine tackles and Rogers’ eight tackles against Pittsburgh, it marked the first time since 2005 that two Browns defensive lineman have produced eight tackles or more in a single contest.

Zastudil sets franchise record

Since 1999, the Browns have had ten different starting quarterbacks. Since 1999, the Browns opening day starter at QB has included Ty Detmer (1999); Tim Couch (2000, 2001), Kelly Holcomb (2002, 2003), Jeff Garcia (2004), Trent Dilfer (2005), Charlie Frye (2006, 2007), and Derek Anderson (2008).

With winds gusting between 40-50 miles per hour on Sunday Sept. 14, against Pittsburgh, the conditions were perfect for a difficult task for kickers on the special teams units. However, Browns P Dave Zastudil established a careerbest 53.0 gross average and 52.8 net average on his five punts for 265 yards. Zastudil’s net average also established a team single-game mark (dating back to 1970) and ranks tied for second-highest net punting single-game average in the NFL. More impressively, Zastudil set the tone early in the contest as four of his five punts came in the first quarter kicking into the gusty winds and his fifth kick came in the third stanza into the wind as well.

2008 Browns Legends

Once again the Browns were busy during free agency. Not only did Cleveland ink several new players, but they also made several key trades to help the continued improvement of the team. Below is a recap of the Browns free agency activity:

The Cleveland Browns have announced that Warren Lahr (1948-59), Paul Wiggin (1957-67), Walter Johnson (1965-76) and Eric Metcalf (1989-94) are the newest members of the Cleveland Browns Legends based on the combined voting of fans and 10-member panel. All four Legends were inducted at a special ceremony at Cleveland Browns Stadium during the Browns home game vs. The New York Giants on October 13.

The Browns created the Cleveland Browns Legends in 2001 to annually honor former players who have made a major impact on the organization. Players must have been on the Browns’ active roster for a minimum of five seasons. The Cleveland Browns Legends were determined by fan balloting on the Browns’ website – www.clevelandbrowns.com - (weighted 20%) along with voting by a 10-member Legends Panel (weighted 80%). Each of the Browns alumni in the Pro Football Hall of Fame were automatically inducted into the Cleveland Browns Legends.

• Played in 56 games for Green Bay and totaled 156 tackles and 17 sacks. Has recorded seven sacks in each of the last two seasons. In 2007 with the Packers, Williams played in all 16 games, including nine starts, and totaled a career-high 51 tackles, seven sacks for 38 yards, one interception for nine yards, three forced fumbles and one pass defended. DL Shaun Rogers (Detroit): Trade (CB Leigh Bodden and 2008 3rd round pick)

Warren Lahr – DB– 5’11 – 189 lbs – Years with Browns: 1948-59 A staple in the defensive backfield for the Browns for 12 seasons, Warren Lahr finished his storied career with 40 interceptions, landing him second on the alltime franchise list. In 1950, Lahr had his most prolific season as a cornerback, intercepting a career-best eight passes and ran back two picks for touchdowns. The Pennsylvania native followed his stellar 1950 season by returning two more interceptions for touchdowns in 1951 and started a streak of five seasons (19511955) where he recorded five interceptions. A graduate of Western Reserve, Lahr ended his career with 530 interception return yards and five defensive touchdowns and cemented his place in Browns history. Lahr passed away on Jan. 19, 1969.

• Seven-year veteran with Detroit has appeared in 98 career games, including 96 starts, and totaled 447 tackles, including 296 solo and 29.5 sacks for 217.5 yards. Named to two Pro Bowls following the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Had a career-high 7 sacks in 2007, starting all 16 games and adding 66 tackles and returning an interception 66 yards for a TD vs. Denver on Nov. 4, 2007. WR Donte’ Stallworth (New England): UFA • Six-year NFL veteran who has played in 84 games with New Orleans, Philadelphia and New England and has totaled 279 receptions for 4,213 yards (15.1 avg.) and 31 touchdowns. Last season with New England, Stallworth totaled 46 receptions for 697 yards and three touchdowns.

Paul Wiggin – DE – 6’3 – 242 lbs – Years with Browns: 1957-67 Wiggin aided with the progression of the defensive end position as one of the most dominant players of his era on the end of the defensive line. A sixth-round pick in the 1957 NFL draft out of Stanford University, Wiggin was a two-time first-team All-America selection and was inducted into the college football Hall of Fame in 2005. The durable Wiggin was the picture of endurance, playing in every game for 11 seasons in Cleveland. Despite playing his entire career at defensive end, Wiggin recorded three career interceptions and returned his lone interception in 1960, 20 yards for a touchdown. Born in Modesto, Calif., Wiggin returned to his alma mater and coached for three years after a three-year stint as a coach with the Kansas City Chiefs.

OL Rex Hadnot (Miami): UFA • Played in 63 games, including 55 starts, during his four-year career with the Miami Dolphins. During his career, Hadnot has started 34 games at right guard, 19 games at center and two games at left guard. Hadnot started 16 games at right guard last season with the Dolphins.

Walter Johnson – DT – 6’4 – 275 lbs – Years with Browns: 1965-76 Nicknamed “Zoom” for his notorious quickness off the ball, Johnson was taken by the Browns in the second round of 1965 NFL draft and went on to play every game of all of his 13 seasons in the league. Johnson teamed with DT Jerry Sherk to create one of the most dominant defensive tackle tandems of their time. During his career, Johnson fronted a Browns defense that notched twenty or more forced fumbles in every season he was on the team. Even as an interior defensive lineman, Johnson corralled two interceptions during his storied career and even broke off a 24-yard kickoff return playing special teams in 1972. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Johnson attended Los Angeles State University and ended his NFL career having played in 182 games. Johnson passed away on June 30, 1999.

DB Terry Cousin (Jacksonville): UFA • Eleven-year veteran who has played in 156 career games, including 68 starts, with Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Carolina, N.Y. Giants and Jacksonville. Cousin has 533 career tackles, 12 interceptions, 6.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 5 recovered fumbles during his career.

LB Shantee Orr (Jacksonville): UFA • Split last season with Houston and Jacksonville and appeared in a total of nine games, including two starts. Has appeared in 51 career games, including 25 starts. Orr has totaled 89 career tackles and 10.5 sacks for 64.5 yards and has added 25 career tackles on special teams.

Eric Metcalf – RB/KR – 5’10 – 188 lbs – Years with Browns: 1989-94 An explosive player at the University of Texas, Metcalf was selected by the Browns with the 13th overall pick in the 1989 NFL draft and made an immediate impact. In his rookie season, Metcalf rushed for 633 yards and six touchdowns while also reeling in 54 receptions for 397 yards and four scores. As a kick returner, Metcalf was regarded as one of the most dangerous players with the ball as shown by his 1,052 return yards in his second season, including two touchdowns one of which came via a 101-yard kickoff return. As his versatility increased throughout his career, Metcalf earned back-to-back Pro Bowl selections in 1994 and 1995 before he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. With 43 career touchdowns from scrimmage and 12 more from kickoffs, the Seattle, Wash., native remains one of the biggest playmakers in the history of the Browns organization.

cRENNEL GETS EXTENSION Romeo Crennel - Head Coach

Mel Tucker - Defensive Coordinator

Romeo Crennel led the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007, including a franchise best seven consecutive home wins, and witnessed six Browns selected to the Pro Bowl. Crennel was rewarded with a two-year contract extension (through 2011) on Jan. 29, 2008. Crennel’s 2007 team ranked 8th overall in offense and scoring, as the Browns scored 402 points and totaled 5,621 net yards of offense, as both rank third best in franchise history. Crennel was named head coach of the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 8, 2005, the 11th full-time head coach in franchise history. Crennel returned to Cleveland in 2005 after serving as the Browns defensive coordinator in 2000 and along with Phil Savage helped rebuild the football operations. Crennel previously led the Browns to a respectable 6-10 record in his first year as a head coach and added a 4-12 mark in 2006. His resume includes 38 years of coaching experience, including 27 years in the NFL.

The Cleveland Browns named Mel Tucker defensive coordinator. In 2008, Tucker received a two-year contract extension and is signed through the 2010 season. Tucker spent the last three seasons as the Browns defensive backs coach under head coach Romeo Crennel. Tucker, a Cleveland native, inherited a young secondary in 2007 as the Browns ranked 24th in the league, allowing 230.1 yards passing per game. Tucker was responsible for the development of two young safeties in the secondary and tutoring youth at the corner position as well. Tucker assisted in the development of two rookie draft choices who made an immediate impact in the Browns secondary. Secondround selection Eric Wright started 13 games at left corner and tied for second on the team with 11 passes defended, while fifth-round pick Brandon McDonald became a force in the second half of the season as the nickel defensive back and tied Wright for second on the club with 11 passes defended. Tucker previously served as defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator for Ohio State University for four seasons (2001-04) and the defensive backs coach at Louisiana State University for the 2000 season. Tucker began coaching as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in 1997 and 1998 before taking the defensive backs coach position at Miami (Ohio) University in 1999.

Savage Inks EXTENSION Phil Savage - Senior Vice President/GM Phil Savage was rewarded with a three-year contract extension (thru 2012) on May 2, 2008, following an exciting 2007 season that witnessed the Browns improve to 10-6, including a franchise best seven consecutive home wins, and six Browns selected to the Pro Bowl. The 2007 team ranked eighth overall in offense and scoring, as the Browns scored 402 points and totaled 5,621 net yards of offense, both marking third in franchise history. Savage was named Senior Vice President and General Manager on Jan. 6, 2005. Savage, an 18-year veteran of the NFL, is known throughout the NFL as one of the league’s top talent evaluators. Savage works directly with Head Coach Romeo Crennel in determining goals and needs for the team and arranging financial guidelines and parameters for contract negotiations and budgets.

Browns promote undlin Cory Undlin - Defensive Backs Coach The Cleveland Browns named Cory Undlin as defensive backs coach. Undlin received a one-year contract extension and is signed through the 2009 season. Undlin spent the last three seasons as the Browns secondary coach/assistant special teams coach under head coach Romeo Crennel. Undlin came to Cleveland from the New England Patriots, where he spent the 2004 season as the defensive assistant helping with the defensive backs. Undlin was part of a Patriots team that won back-to-back Super Bowl championships and also won an NFL record 21 straight games. Before joining New England, Undlin spent two seasons assisting with the defensive backs as a graduate assistant at Fresno State University (2002-03). During those two seasons, Fresno State won back-to-back Silicon Valley Bowls by defeating Georgia Tech and UCLA, respectively. Prior to Fresno State, Undlin spent four years at Cal Lutheran University as a linebackers/defensive coordinator (1998-2002). Edwards set a franchise record for receiving TDs in a season (Gary Collins, 1963) with his 14th and 15th TD grabs of the season in the Browns Week 16 contest with the Bengals, before finishing the season with one final TD grab in the victory over the 49ers in Week 17, increasing his franchise record to 16. Edwards also matched his career-high with eight receptions in the Week 16 game with the Bengals, the fourth time he hauled in eight passes in a game in 2007.

In 2007, DB Sean Jones finished second on the team with five interceptions. Jones picked off Bengals QB Carson Palmer in Week Two, Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck in Week Nine, Ravens QB Kyle Boller in Week 11, Cardinals QB Kurt Warner in Week 13 and Jets QB Kellen Clemens in the end zone, thwarting a Jets scoring drive, in Week 14.

DB Brodney Pool had an interception in back-to-back games in 2007, intercepting Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger in Week 10, before swooping in front of a Ravens QB Kyle Boller pass in the end zone and returning it 100 yards for a touchdown in the Browns Week 11 win over the Ravens. Pool’s 100-yard interception for a touchdown set a franchise record, surpassing the 97-yard interception returns of Anthony Henry (12/16/01) and Najee Mustafaa (10/10/93), both of which were also returned for touchdowns.

Jones also had the second most tackles on the team in 2007 with 105 tackles* (47 solo, 56 assisted, 2 TFL).

Pool’s 100-yard INT return also marked the longest interception return for a touchdown in the NFL in 2007.

He signed a six-year contract extension with the Browns through the 2012 season and is a converted college quarterback from Kent State, earned a roster spot as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2005. LB Andra Davis makes regular visits to Boys and Girls Clubs and donates tickets to all Browns home games for parents and their children to enjoy games as a family. He is the first person from his hometown of Live Oak, Fla., and Suwanee High School to play professional sports and is honored every year with a day celebrating his professional accomplishments. K Phil Dawson is the longest active tenured member of the Browns. He scored the first regular season rushing TD for the Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium with a 4-yard TD run on a fake field goal attempt vs. Cincinnati on Oct. 10, 1999. TE Darnell Dinkins established the Maleness to Manhood Foundation to benefit innercity youth. He spoke to nearly 100 students at Cleveland’s Genesis High School, a program to provide intense academic recovery to specific youth in a small group instruction. WR Braylon Edwards donated $1 million to the Cleveland Municipal School District to create a college scholarship opportunity for 100 eighth-grade students, named Advance 100, as long as the students maintain a 2.5 GPA, participate in 15 hours of community service each year throughout high school. In 2006, he donated $500,000 to create a scholarship endowment at the University of Michigan for the football player who wears the No. 1 jersey, the largest donation pledged to the university by a professional athlete. OL Hank Fraley was one of only two players to take every offensive snap (Joe Thomas) in 2007. His brother, David, was stationed with the United States Army’s 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq and his father is a Vietnam veteran. RB Jerome Harrison is very active in the Cleveland community by supporting charitable events such as Shop with a Jock and the NFL’s Hometown Huddle. TE Steve Heiden is a partner in an athletic training facility, Athletic Development Corp., using science and technology for prep and collegiate athletes in Valley View, Ohio. He recorded his first career TD reception and blocked a punt in the same game at Carolina on Dec. 17, 2000. LB D’Qwell Jackson changed his number from 58 to 52 this past spring. His wife Amira, recently opened her dental practice in Westlake, Ohio. S Sean Jones recorded his second consecutive 100-plus tackle season (105 in 2007 and 107.5 in 2006). WR Joe Jurevicius is a Cleveland-area native who played prep football at Lake Catholic High School in Mentor, Ohio and has played in three Super Bowls during his career, earning a ring with Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII. He has a 65,000-acre hunting ranch, Dismal River Outfitters, in Mullen, Neb., which is stocked with buffalo, elk and deer. RB Jamal Lewis topped 9,000 career rushing yards, in 2007, becoming one of only 26 players in NFL history to accomplish that feat. OL Seth McKinney is partner in a heavy machinery company, G Bar S Site Service, in Centerville, Texas. Bush, and then served as the Chief of Staff for Texas Governor Rick Perry.

OL Kevin Shaffer has started at tackle in 71 of the last 72 contests. He is very active in the Cleveland community by supporting charitable events such as Read with the Browns and Lift Up America. DL Robaire Smith has two older brothers who played professional sports – Fernando, who played nine seasons in the NFL, and Antonio, who played for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors after leading Michigan State to the 1999 Final Four. DL Shaun Smith established the ’91 Ways’ Foundation, which benefits at risk youth. This past year, he hosted his first annual celebrity bowling tournament at Corner Alley in Cleveland. DB Nick Sorensen participated in the NFL and NFL Player Association three-day business management and entrepreneurial program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. OL Eric Steinbach has helped paved the way for four consecutive 1,000 yard rushers with Jamal Lewis (2007) and Rudi Johnson (2004-06). He led Providence Catholic High School (New Lenox, Ill.) to 50 straight wins and three state titles as a tight end and defensive end. OL Joe Thomas hosts an outdoor sportsman show on Sports Time Ohio, Outdoors Ohio with D’Arcy Egan and Joe Thomas. In 2007, he was named to the Pro Bowl and is only the fourth NFL rookie offensive lineman to be named to the Pro Bowl. OL Ryan Tucker is an avid rifle hunter of quail, deer and turkey, owns a 1,100 acre ranch in Texas. He earned a Super Bowl ring with St. Louis in 1999. FB Lawrence Vickers attended a youth football camp in Australia this past spring. DL Corey Williams has overcome personal tragedy as he lost his father at the age of 15 and his mother five years later. Just before the 2004 NFL Scouting Combine, he endured the death of his infant daughter, who lived only two weeks after her premature birth. He has since had another daughter and embraces fatherhood and everything the role brings in his life. LB Leon Williams is active in the Cleveland community by supporting the Shop with a Jock holiday program. LB Kamerion Wimbley set the Browns rookie record with 11 sacks in 2006. He had his jersey number 12 retired at Northwest High School, his alma mater, during a basketball halftime ceremony on Jan. 23, 2007, in his hometown of Wichita, Kan. TE Kellen Winslow hosted his first youth football camp in North Olmsted, Ohio this past summer. He is very active in the Cleveland community by supporting charitable events such as the Special Olympics Holiday Party, Taste of the NFL and the Browns Youth Football Camps stressing the importance of nutrition and physical activity. RB Jason Wright is a keyboardist, singer and worship leader at The International House of Prayer in Cleveland. Romeo Crennel Press Conference Transcript 10-20-08 (On the team’s relationship with Kellen Winslow)- “I think Kellen has a good relationship with the organization. I think Kellen likes the players on this team, I think Kellen likes the Cleveland Browns and I think that he will play for the Cleveland Browns.”

(Opening statement)- “We lost a tough one yesterday down at Washington. I knew that it would be a tough game because they lost their last home game. I figured they would be focused and ready to go. I thought that we would be focused and ready to go as well, as it turned out, everyone wasn’t focused and ready to go as much as we needed to be. I thought the defense did a heck of a job creating field position and trying to help us during the course of the game even thought we gave up too many yards rushing. Even with the yardage that we gave up, towards the end of the game, we gave up 50 yards in three plays and that is an indication of what went on during the course of the game from the defensive side. Overall, I thought the guys played hard and tried to get something done. Offensively we weren’t quite as efficient, we had mistakes in several different areas that we have to get cleaned up and get better at. It was disappointing that we weren’t able to function, particularly after the display that we had on Monday night. Basically, as I sit back and look at the team now, we are somewhere between Monday night and the Dallas game. That’s the kind of team we are. I think what we have to try to be able to get done is develop some consistency and not be an up-and-down team, to try to be a more consistent team all the way across the board. If we can develop some consistency, I think we can still be in the middle of it as we go down the road. I think we can win some games, I don’t know if we will win them all, but we can win some games and with the way it’s going, I think we’ll be in the middle of it if we are able to get that done. That is going to be the focus for us going forward. Shaun Rogers continues to get into the backfield and be a problem for the opposing offense. The outside linebackers did a pretty good job of setting the edge on a good runner and really, I thought we contained him decently until the second half when he hit some seams in the defense and was able to get some chunks. They hung in there and even got the ball back at the end of the game to give us an opportunity to send it to overtime if we were able to make a kick. Offensively, the guy who continues to be consistent is Jamal Lewis. You give him the ball and he runs hard every time with it and he is a very consistent player. We have to get him some help with other guys being as consistent as he is. If we do that, I think the team will be able to win some games going down the road. Special teams-wise, the punter did a nice job of punting the ball, helping us with field position, the coverage unit did a decent job. We got a return play on a kickoff return, we got a 40-something yard return. That helped and was good. Next week we’ve got Jacksonville, we’re going to have to go on the road down there.”

(On distractions)- “That’s the main thing is that it is a distraction. Not only is it a distraction for the organization, it is a distraction for Kellen. It will be a distraction for the players in the locker room because they will be asked a lot of questions about what they think about it and all of those things are taking away from football questions and their focus and concentration on the next game.” (On checking on injured players)- “All I know is that the organization did check on him. The organization values all of our players. When they are injured, generally we try to check in on them and find out how they are doing and give them some encouragement and tell them we want to get them back as soon as we can.” (On Kellen Winslow’s “piece of meat” comment)- “In the emotion of the moment, sometimes things get said that are not exactly right or not exactly accurate, so I think you have to take it with a grain of salt. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel that way but I try to treat all of them like they are my own kids. Basically, that is what they are to a degree and I respect them all. I think they understand that and they know that and we are going to try to do the best thing for them.” (On Braylon Edwards)- “We have to keep coaching him and keep working with him on focus and concentration and not pressing, to relax and just let the ball come to him and not tighten up when the ball does come to him. We know that he can catch the ball and he can make good plays for us, we just need to get him to do that on a consistent basis.” (On Derek Anderson)- “There are a couple things that I think happened. The supporting cast, they were not able to make some plays, I thought the protection wasn’t as good as it was Monday night and he wasn’t as good as he was Monday night. When you put that all together, you are not very effective.” (On Derek Anderson seeing the field)- “I think it depends on where the first read takes him and if he stays with that first read or not. If he reads the whole field, then he sees them. If he just stays on one side, and sometimes a guy will do that, if there is somebody on that side that he likes and a guy he feels like will be in the right place, he might stay on one side instead of going through the rest of the progression.”

(On injuries)- “Shantee Orr left the game with a foot injury. He’s going to get an MRI today and we will see what that leads to because he did not come back into the game. Corey Williams left the game and then came back but we are looking at his shoulder today to see how that’s going to play out for us. Ryan Tucker did not play in the game because of his knee. Josh Cribbs took a hit but I think he’s going to be okay, he’s a pretty tough guy so he should be okay for us. Otherwise, we are okay as far as injuries go.”

(On spiking the ball)- “Generally, that is a coach’s decision. We had a communication system that wasn’t working as efficiently as it needed to work in that game but we felt like we had enough time. He wanted to get the play correct that we wanted him to get so he came over and got it and we ran the play. At the end of the game, there was still time on the clock so it didn’t hurt us, per se.”

(On Kellen Winslow)- “Kellen is a very emotional player. He’s competitive and wants to win, he is coming off an injury situation and probably didn’t play as much as he wanted to play, even though some balls went his way. He did make one catch towards the end of the game that helped us in the game. Sometimes the emotions of a game and the emotions of your personal situation, they kind of overflow. He probably said something that he didn’t need to talk about to the media. Going forward we are going to try to eliminate distractions because that is a distraction and see if we can focus on winning games.”

(On Derek Anderson and Lawrence Vickers)- “There was a communication problem with the headsets, he wasn’t able to hear what we were calling and he decided to make a call on his own. I think what happened was without talking to Vickers, he told Vickers where he wanted him to align and it was an alignment Vickers wasn’t used to or didn’t think might have been right and the clock was running down so we called a timeout. But they straightened it out right away. It was more of a malfunction of the communication system than anything between him and Vickers.”

(On Kellen Winslow’s comments)- “We will investigate it and then we will determine if anything needs to be done. My policy is to keep family business in the family so whatever I do, I do. I’m not going to broadcast it.”

(On how he is handling things)- “The best I can. You go day-to-day, you deal with the situations as they come and you know that everything that is expected doesn’t happen the way you expect it. The unexpected is going to occur so you deal with it, handle it and move on. We do have a game to play and I have to get these guys ready to try to play better than we played yesterday. (I handle it) the same way that I have since I came in 2005. I play them one game at a time, I do the best I can each day and whatever happens, happens. I know that if I win, I get to stay and if I lose I might go.”

(On Kellen Winslow’s staph infection)- “Yes it was (a staph infection). All I know is that it was a private issue for him and I chose not to talk about it. And I’m not talking about it.” (On the worst part of Kellen Winslow’s comments)- “If he has an issue, he should address it with the organization and not to the media. I don’t know how much you gain by addressing it to the media, he should come to the organization and talk to the organization first and try to reach some kind of agreement and then if he is not satisfied and thinks he needs to go elsewhere, then he can go elsewhere. That is his choice but he shouldn’t go to the media first, he should come to the organization first and address any issues he has with us.”

(On Kellen Winslow’s maturity)- “I think he has made progress from the time that I have been here. I think the thing that we sometimes don’t understand is the pressure that a young man like that has on him when he gets injured or is not able to play or what he thinks about his future and there are a lot of things going through his mind. They do have to deal with a lot, sometimes emotions do come out, but I think he has made progress since I’ve been here.”

(On a reoccurrence of staph infections)- “I don’t think there is a reoccurrence. There have been a couple cases that we have had. We have been doing quite a bit to try to make the place safe for the players. We had a sports coating company come in on a regular basis to check. We clean everything in the building where the players are dining, dressing and meeting. We have had experts come in and talk to them to try to educate them, we have handed out educational material so they understand infections and how to deal with them. I think the team is doing everything they can to try to keep our players safe. Even with that there is no guarantee, as you look around the league you see that there are no guarantees.”

(On the locker room)- “I think I have a good leadership group in that locker room. I think they will be able to handle any situation that arises. I think they are going to do what is best for the team and they are going to try to talk to their teammates about doing what’s best for the team.” (On Ryan Tucker)- “There’s a lot or wear and tear on that knee. It got impacted because he had to play the whole game, so it swelled up on him a little bit. It has gotten better but we will have to see.”

(On where staph comes from)- “We don’t know where they are picking it up or where it comes from. If we knew that then we could pinpoint it and be able to address it. There are several different types of staph and different types of infection. Generally they are treated pretty much the same way with antibiotics but I couldn’t sit here and tell you where a guy picks it up or how he got it or anything like that.”

Dallas QB Tony Romo threw for 320 yards as the Cowboys downed the Browns 28-10 in the 2008 season opener at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Dallas jumped out to a 7-0 advantage after RB Marion Barber’s first of two 1 yard touchdown runs. Cleveland evened it at 7-7 after QB Derek Anderson found TE Kellen Winslow on a two-yard scoring strike in the second quarter. The Cowboys added two TDs in the second, a 35-yard pass from Romo to WR Terrell Owens and Barber’s second score, to take a 21-7 lead into halftime. Rookie RB Felix Jones scored on his first NFL carry, an 11-yard scamper in the third quarter. K Phil Dawson added a 34-yard field goal for Cleveland in the fourth quarter. QB Derek Anderson finished 11-24 for 114 yards and a touchdown. RB Jamal Lewis added 62 yards on the ground on 13 carries. Barber finished with 80 rushing yards, while Jones posted 62. Winslow paced the receivers with 47 yards on five receptions. Dallas TE Jason Witten led the Cowboys with six receptions for 96 yards. DB Eric Wright recorded his second career interception in the endzone to end a Dallas scoring threat.

With rain and winds of 60 mph, the Steelers downed the Browns in a 10-6 slugfest at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The Steelers got on the scoreboard first after QB Ben Roethlisberger found WR Hines Ward for an 11-yard strike in the second quarter. Cleveland drove to the Pittsburgh 11 with eight second remaining in the second quarter but an interception by DB Troy Palamalu ended the scoring threat and the half. The Steelers added to its lead in the third after K Jeff Reed connected on a 48-yard field goal. Browns K Phil Dawson answered with a 31-yard field goal to cut the lead to 10-3 in the third. Dawson added a 38-yard try with 3:21 remaining in the contest to close the gap. The Browns defense stopped the Steers on a 4th-and-4 try to regain possession with 26 seconds left, but were unable to complete a pass. Steelers RB Willie Parker totaled 105 yard on the ground, while WR Santonio Holmes added 94 yards receiving. Roethlisberger finished 12-19 for 186 yards and 1 TD, while Browns QB Derek Anderson went 18-32 for 166 yards and two interceptions. TE Kellen Winslow led the Browns with seven receptions for 55 yards. Defensively, DL Shaun Rogers and DL Shaun Smith each recorded a sack, while DB Nick Sorensen and DL Corey Williams combined for a sack.

The Ravens evened it up after a 5-yard run by RB Willis McGahee. A 38-yard Phil Dawson field goal gave the Browns a 10-7 advantage at the half. In the third stanza, Le’Ron McClain scored on two 1-yard runs and DB Ed Reed added a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown to account for Baltimore’s scoring. Anderson finished the contest 14-37 for 125 yards with one touchdown pass and three interceptions. Raven QB Joe Flacco finished 13-19 for 129 yards and two interceptions. RB Jamal Lewis led Cleveland on the ground with 56 yards and WR Braylon Edwards led with 27 yards on three receptions. LB D’Qwell Jackson and DB Mike Adams each recorded interceptions.

Fueled by 17 fourth quarter points, the Browns downed the Cincinnati Bengals 20-12 at Paul Brown Stadium. K Phil Dawson capped Cleveland opening drive with a 25-yard field goal. Two second quarter field goals by K Shayne Graham gave the Bengals a 6-3 advantage at the half. The Browns scored the contest’s first touchdown in the fourth quarter after QB Derek Anderson found WR Braylon Edwards in the corner of the endzone on a fade route to cap off an 80-yard drive. After a DB Mike Adams fumble recovery at the Cincinnati 24, the Browns crossed the goal line again on a 1-yard run by RB Jamal Lewis. Cincinnati cut into the Cleveland lead after WR Chad Johnson scored on a 4-yard pass from QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. A failed two-point conversion try kept the score at 17-12. Dawson connected on a 29-yard field goal to account the Browns final score. Defensively Adams, DB Terry Cousin and DB Eric Wright each recorded interceptions.

Cleveland earned its second win of the season as the Browns offense rolled to 454 net yards of offense and the defense forced three interceptions in a 35-14 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Giants on Monday Night. In the contest, the Browns jumped to an early lead with K Phil Dawson’s 28 yard field goal and RB Jamal Lewis’ 4-yard TD run opened a 10-7 second quarter lead. The Browns extended the lead with QB Derek Anderson’s 22-yard TD strike to TE Darnell Dinkins, however Giants QB Eli Manning connected with Plaxico Burress on a 3-yard TD pass to cut the Browns lead to 17-14 at the half. In the third stanza, Dawson extended the lead with a 26-yard FG and WR Braylon Edwards converted an 11-yard TD pass from Anderson on the first play in the fourth quarter to open a 27-14 cushion. In the 4th quarter, DB Eric Wright picked Manning’s pass attempt and returned the interception 94 yards for a TD, the fourth longest in club history, for the 35-14 final.

The Redskins used two second half touchdowns to down the Browns 14-11 at FedExField. RB Clinton Portis found the endzone on a three-yard touchdown run and an 18yard touchdown toss to WR Santana Moss opened up a 14-3 Washington lead. In the fourth quarter, the Browns mounted a comeback with a one-yard touchdown pass from QB Derek Anderson to WR Joshua Cribbs and converted a two-point conversion attempt to WR Braylon Edwards with 2:44 remaining in regulation. The Browns defense forced the Redskins to punt and provided the Browns offense one more opportunity. Anderson led the Browns in six plays down to the Redskins 36 yard line to set up a 54 yard game-tying field goal attempt by K Phil Dawson which missed wide right with 25 seconds remaining. In the contest, Anderson was 14 of 37 passing for 136 yards and one touchdown and RB Jamal Lewis rushed for 80 yards on 19 carries (4.2 avg.). Edwards led the club with four receptions for 58 yards (14.5 avg.). Defensively, the Browns forced one turnover as DB Eric Wright stripped Portis late in the 4th quarter, which was recovered by S Brodney Pool, and led to the Browns late touchdown.
