B.R.A.IN APP INSTALLATION & FIRST TIME USE

B.R.A.IN APP is compatible with the following Operative Systems:  •  •

Android OS from version 7 onward iOS from version 11 onward

The smartphone/tablet smartphone/tablet where the APP is installed must be compatible with BLE (Bluetooth Low Low Energy) from version 4.1 onward. The APP can be downloaded from the app stores of both O.S. (Google Play Store for Android and App Store for Apple). Search for the APP and then click on Install key, the APP will be dowloaded and then installed on the device. With the Android O.S. it is possible to install the APP also using directly the APK (Android Application Package) of the app. The APK file can be supplied by SISGEO in case of connection problems to Google Play Store. In this situation, it’s it’s necessary to enable the installation of apps of unknown source. This option is usually usua lly in the menu “Advanced “Advanced Settings - Safety - Unknown source” s ource”. Please refer to your device manual for more information. FIRST TIME USE

Once installed the APP B.R.A.IN, it’s necessary to carry out the BT connection with a B.R.A.IN inclinometer system. Every inclinometer system has a diff different erent name. The BT name of the inclino i nclinometer meter system syst em is like: “B.R.A.IN-aaaan “B.R.A.IN- aaaannnn” nnn”, where “aaaa” is is the registration year and “nnnn” is an unique numer. In this way, also among diff different erent inclinometer system, the user will be always able to understand which B.R.A.IN to connect to. If it’s the first time you connect to an inclinometer system, will be requested the BT association through the insertion of a PIN. PIN code is the same for all the B.R.A.IN and is 123456. NOTE: the PIN is common among all B.R.A.INs since B.R.A.IN doesn’t doesn’t record data, so there is no safety risk for the acquired data. Data are stored exclusively on the device used for the inclinometer test. In order to perform the first connection proceed as follows: • switch on B.R.A.IN pressing POWER ON key • on the device (smartphone/tablet) enter in the BT menu and search for the name of the B.R.A.IN just switched on. • Selecting B.R.A.IN, a menu will be opened where you can insert the PIN in order to perform the pairing:

TAKING MEASUREMENTS

reference keyway

SURVEY WITH VERTICAL PROBE Inclinometer casing survey consists in a number of readings at regular steps of the tilt of the inclinometer probe. Probe shall be moved incrementally along the casing, whereby for ISO 18674-3 18674-3 each increment shall not exceed the gauge length of the probe (500 or 1000 mm). The inclinometer casing should be installed with one keyway in the reference direction. In vertical boreholes, the reference direction should be the direction of the anticipated principal movement OR the keyway closer to geographic north. The keyway keyway in the reference direction shall be the reference keyway and shall be durably marked, for example, by cutting a notch at the top of the guide tube into that keyway or by identifying it by a water-resistant water-resistant and wear wear-resistant -resistant mark. Inclinometer’s Inclinometer’ s casing keywa keyways, ys, once installed, inst alled, are identified with numbers 1-2-3-4, clockwise; the keyway in the t he reference referenc e direction direc tion is the key way “1”.

Inclinometer surveys can be taken t aken in two or four keyways, so with two or four runs. 4-keywas survey is usually identified with the following string: A1B1 - A3B3 - A2B2 - A4B4 2-keywas surveys are usually identified with the following strings: A1B1 - A3B3 A2B2 - A4B4 where: A1B1 is the A3B3 is the A2B2 is the A4B4 is the

keyway 1 keyway 3 (reverse or conjugated run) keyway 2 keyway 4 (reverse or conjugated run)

The first complete survey is called “reference reading” and is the survey compared to which will be calculated all the future displacements of the inclinometer’ i nclinometer’s s casing. For establishing a reliable reference set, there should be, in the reference reading, at least two repetitions of the initial measuring survey whereby each survey consists of a normal (0°) and a reverse (180°) run along the guide tube (usually A1B1 - A3B3), under repeatable conditions. We suggest to take reference readings on four keyways (A1B1 - A3B3 - A2B2 - A4B4), because sometimes casing could deform, preventing probe’s probe’s readings, while the perpendicular keyways keyways can still be used. Before inserting the inclinometer probe in the casing, we advice advic e to check casing’s casing’s accessibility using the dummy probe, which has to slide along the casing with the reference wheels put in all the 4 keyway keyways. s. The stability of the readings is critical c ritical for a correct measurement. Therefore, Therefore, at the beginning of a survey, the measuring probe shall be brought to the point furthest from the collar of the guide tube (lower part of the casing) and left there to adjust to the ambient temperature until the readings are considered to be sufficiently stable. We suggest a minimum stabilization time of 10 minutes. To carry out an inclinometer survey, proceed as follows. The detailed operations to be performed with B.R.A.IN APP will be described in next paragraph “HOW TO USE B.R.A.IN APP FOR TAKING READINGS” • • • •

• •

www.sisgeo.com

Remove the probe from shoulder carrying bag; Check wheels assembly and wheels functionality; Check if the O-ring on the connector is present; Keep the probe vertical on the ground and connect it to the inclinometer control cable paying attention to fit connector’s connector’s references. DON’T TURN and DON’T STRAIN the connectors to avoid any irreparable damage (for this operation, see APPENDIX 1); Once the connectors are matched, screw manually the nut until is fully locked in order to grant the water thightness; Switch-on Switch-on the B.R.A.IN reel, open the B.R.A.IN APP on your device and select SYSTEM SYSTEM in order to verify if the device is correctly paired with the reel, if the reel electronic works properly and if the probe is correcly connected;

Insert the probe in the inclinometer casing with the reference wheels in keyway 1 (RUN A1B1); if available, install the pulley and cable stop or the cable gate on the inclinometer casing. Drop slowly the probe until it reaches reaches the lower part of the the casing; On the B.R.A.IN APP select the SITE and the CASING of the actual survey, connect the APP to the B.R.A.IN cable reel and select the RUN type (A1B1); Wait at least 10 minutes to stabilize the probe temperature; Pull-up the probe until the first available mark on the cable is on the expected reference point. Place very carefully the marks on the pulley or cable gate because, to have good results, their position must never change. Before registering the data at each step (depth), wait for te stabilization of the values (green characters on the device display) push “READ” button on B.R.A.IN APP to register the data; Pull-up the probe using the control cable, placing the next mark of the cable according to the step set (usually the probe gauge length); Proceed in this way for the whole length of the casing. Once ended with keyway 1, pull out the probe from the casing; Turn the probe of 180°, put it back in the casing with the reference wheels in keyway 3 and lower the probe until it reaches the bottom; Proceed as already explained for keyway 1. 1. In this case the values will be identified as A3B3. In case of 4-keyway reading, the described steps must be performed also with the probe reference wheel in keyway 2 (A2B2) and then in keyway 4 (A4B4). Once ended the reading, unscrew the nut and disconnect carefully the probe from the cable connector; Check the connectors (probe and cable) to ensure that there is no humidity inside; Screw the protection caps; Clean carefully and dry the probe in its mechanical parts; Rewind carefully the inclinometer cable on the B.R.A.IN reel in order to avoid any torsion; Put back the probe in its carrying casing;

Advices: • • • •

www.sisgeo.com

Use always always the same inclinometer inclinometer system system (probe-B.R.A.IN reel) to to survey the casing. Use the pulley and cable stop or the cable stop. When you you move move from a level level to the next next one, record the data only when when the values are stable. Avoid Av oid pulls and excessive speed in the probes’ recovery recovery..

SURVEY WITH HORIZONTAL PROBE The inclinometer reading consists in a survey, at regular steps, of the inclinometer casing tilt compared to the horizontal. The step is usually the same of the wheels assembly distance (gauge length). For establishing a reliable reference set, there should be, in the reference measurement, at least two repetitions of the initial measuring survey whereby each survey consists of a normal and a reverse run along the inclinometer tube under repeatable conditions. The inclinometer casing should be installed with one keyway in the reference direction. In horizontal and inclined boreholes, the reference direction should be the “top” of the borehole. The keyway which is in the reference direction shall be the reference keyway and shall be durably marked, for example, by cutting a notch at the top of the guide tube into that keyway or by identifying it by a water water-resistant -resistant and wear wear-resistant -resistant mark. Inclinometer’ Inclinometer’s s casing keyways, once installed, are identified with numbers 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4,, clockwise; the keywa keyway y in the reference direct direction ion is the keyway “1”.
