Description

Instructor’s Reference Blood Pressure In this set of experiments, students will become familiar with auscultation of blood pressure. In addition, they will use the PowerLab to measure systolic blood pressure. Students will examine the changes in peripheral circulation during blood pressure measurement and compare measurements of blood pressure with the arm in different positions. Written by staff of ADInstruments .

&d,ustment and use of the blood pressure cuff  •

*a&e sure students are familiar with the use of the blood pressure cuff. Some cuffs can be put on ?inside"out’@ and then will not compress the arm when inflated. If this is the problem, re!erse the cuff and try again. :a!e students familiari#e themsel!es with the use of the cuff release !al!e before performing actual measurements. Ae!er inflate the cuff abo!e -00 mm:g. 8o not lea!e the cuff inflated on a !olunteer’s arm for prolonged periods. If a !olunteer complains of discomfort, do not continue measurement. 8eflate the cuff immediately.

*a&e sure the students understand that there are two sides of the rotating endpiece. It is recommended that students use the bell of the stethoscope, rather than the diaphragm, to minimi#e effects of room noise.
