Product Concept

The purpose of Poseidon (bizhubs 227/287/367) is to enrich the bizhub A3 B/W line-up with three new devices for the low cost channel. Poseidon will be positioned in between the Premium (ZeusBK) and Basic MFP category (bizhub 215/185). Scope and functionality should be similar to the current e-series B/W models, but the price has been reduced to be compatible in a low-price range. Poseidon was developed in order to fulfil and support current market requirements and therefore ensures the continuous business success of Konica Minolta. Poseidon will help Konica Minolta to fast react to customer’s and market demands. Poseidon product series consists of 3 products in the range of 22 ppm, 28 ppm and 36 ppm. Only bizhub 224e of ZeusBK will be taken out of the portfolio, whereas bizhubs 284e, 364e, 454e and 554e will be running parallel to Poseidon in a higher price segment.

Field Support Concept

Improvement of Reliability Main improvements Maintaining the industry top-class paper feeding noise level (Poseidon2: 66.7db or less) by reducing operation noise from main body and peripheral options. The industry top-class productivity is realized with main body and even with peripheral options. - Main Body: Maintaining consecutive productivity with Taiga class and higher class model. - FS-534: 100% productivity performance with 1 staple + punch + shift mode is realized by adopting new griper paper exit system and securing overlap paper pass space. Downsizing and reducing weight for the main body. Dimensions (W x D x H): 585 x 660 x 735 / Weight: 56.5kg or less, carried in through 600mm-wide Door. Tri-fold performance with 3 sheets at the same time is realized. Expedite Field Problem Processing Improve and stabilize the product quality by solving field problems quickly based on firm cooperation with the sales companies and related sections in KMI.

Share the Service Related Field Information To share field support information, TAD and TNI of through CSES will be issued by KMI. To escalate field problem to BT, all sales companies will submit ER and QU through CSES. The following items should be needed for escalations. 1. Subject and ID number of CSES 2. Occurrence ratio 3 Serial number of machine 4 Meter reading information 5 System configuration and so on KMI will share the review report on 3/6/12 months from the product release.

Note: Standard paper weight is 80 g/m2 for monochrome machines and 90 g/m² for full color machines. Since using these standards result in optimum system performance, all specifications on performance, reliability, maintenance and replacement based on those standard papers. Using thick papers, labels, transfer and polyester films continuously can increase the wear and tear on replacement parts and consumables - meaning your servicing costs will go up. Use the bypass or the lower tray from the paper feed unit when working with materials having such characteristics as polyester films, textile transfer films and labels. Otherwise, you may be faced with double feeding or a higher number of feeding jams. If possible use sub tray when working with materials having such characteristics as polyester films, textile transfer films and labels. Roller marks on the copy or print may appear or increased jams can occur. Standard paper weights yield the best possible copy and print results. Using higher grammatures may influence the quality of the output. Using standard paper weights also guarantees that double sided copies and prints are made reliably. Different characters of films as well as thick, thin and coated papers may increase the jam rate for double sided copies and prints.

4.1.

Improvement of service ability for installation

N o

Item

Improvement Description

1

Reduced setup time

[Setup performance] Setup time at the field has been reduced by gradation adjustment setting performed at the Production factory. - Taiga: 3 min. - Poseidon: 0 min.

2

Reduced replacemen t time for the MFP board and PRCB board

[CM serviceability] Replacement time of the MFP and PRCB boards has been reduced by the unified structure of these boards. -Taiga: 22 min. -Poseidon: 10 min.

3

Reduced replacemen t time for the paper takeup roller

CM/PM serviceability] Replacement time of the paper take-up roller has been drastically reduced by the simplified replacement procedures. - Taiga: 14 min.

4

Reduced replacemen t time for the ADF separation roller

[CM/PM serviceability] Replacement time of the ADF separation roller has been drastically reduced by the simplified replacement procedures.

5

Improved machine conveyanc e (Lever added)

[Installation/Transport] A lever has been installed on the machine right side for easier conveyance.

Compability Common with C364e series

Common with Zeus

- Poseidon: 4 min.

Common with Zeus series

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

6

Improved structure of the right door

[Operability/Jam clearance] In order for the operator to find jammed paper more easily at the image transfer section, the right door has been improved. A locking structure has been incorporated into the inner door so that the inner door is opened along with opening of the right door.

7

Reduced replacemen t time for the pick-up roller of the bypass tray

[CM/PM serviceability] Replacement time of the pick-up roller of the bypass tray has been reduced by the newly adopted unified structure of the metal plate and bearing. Also the screw will be installed/removed more easily as the installatiing direction is changed from vertical to horizontal. Taiga: 12 min. Poseidon: 5 min.

8

Reduced ADF setup time

9

Reduced setup time

[Setup performance] For Taiga, ADF setup takes much time since; to properly position the ADF, the operator needs to visually check an output image to know how much the ADF is misalighed with the machine. [Correction] FW will be modified as below: Misalignment of the output image, if any, will be automatically measured and adjustment amount will be displayed on the panel. The operator can then adjust the ADF alignment with the hinge. Release timing of the modified FW is under discussion. [Setup performance] At machine installation, for Taiga, the operator needs to fill developer into DV and then assemble it with DR. [Correction] By the newly adopted AR system, substituted for the former toner recycling method, developer filling can be omitted.

31

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

Design changes contributing to reliability improvement

4.2. N o 1

Item Frame

Compatibilit y

Improvement Description Compared to Taiga, weight is reduced and more compact body is realized. With the improved shape of the operation panel, the vertical transport section and Transport handle, the machine will be slimmer and conveyed more easily.

Size of the machine Weight Trans. lever

Poseidon 585 x 660 x 735

Taiga 623 x 799 x 700

56.5kg or less (including DV and DR) On the right/left (R: swing type)

78kg or less

On the front/back (handle type) When the set size differs with the actual paper size set on the bypass tray, for Taiga, it is detected as a control jam. To save jammed paper removing procedure, the machine does not count the Detected size error as paper jam and eject the paper, and then stops. The ejected paper is counted for charge (To prevent users from avoiding being Billed for the ejected paper with size error intentionally made).

2

Paper ejection upon size error

3

Special spacer for adjusting separatio n pressure (DF-628)

To prevent original paper feeding failure, a spacer for adjusting separation pressure of the spring has been set in ADF. Two-step adjustment is available.

4

Odor removal

An odor removal filter has been installed into the cooling fan in the turnover section.

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

33

5

Preventio n of scratches on the fusing roller

6

Preventio n of toner scattering

7

Improved jam clearance

[Current status] Jammed paper may sometimes be dropped in the machine inside when the operator pulls out the paper cassette trying to remove paper remained in the paper feed section. [Correction] The paper cassette will be installed/ removed without using a driver.

10

New Scanner

Newly developed built-in scanner unit with CCD module

4.3. No. 1

[Current status] For Taiga, black line may occur due to scratches made on the fusing roller within its product life. [Correction] To prevent scratches, the thermistor, the main cause of such scratches, is changed to a different type that will not contact with the fusing roller, and contact load of the separation fingers will be reduced. [Current status] For Taiga, which requires developer replacement for every PM replacement cycle, image failure (dirty with toner) sometimes occurs due to scattered toner inside the machine. [Correction] By adopting AR system, quality degradation of developer due to recycling will be eliminated, preventing such image failure.

Caution for the Field Service

Item Adjustment timing for scanner D-max

Description [Specification changes] Adjustment timing of maximum optical density (Scanner’s D-max adjustment) will be changed as below: Current: At DV/DR replacement Changed to: Only when the scanned image seems pale Cause: At an early stage of DV life (within approx. 1k sheets yield), image density remains unstable due to the charging property of developer and keeps higher than the desired level. (See the graph below.)) Adjusting Scanner Dmax at the beginning (high TD) lowers the average TD level (Image will be pale).

Average TD # of copied sheets

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

2

Display of the transfer roller unit counter

[FW] Indication of “Image Transfer Belt Unit” key on the “New Release” screen is incorrect and should be corrected to “Transfer Roller Unit”. [Correction] This will be corrected on MR since it is an issue of display only, without function issues.

3

Notes on using FS-533/FS-534

4

Color of the collar of the paper exit section

[Specification changes] Stock of FS-533/FS-534 (Part no. A2YUWY1/A3EPWY1 respectively) in the market cannot be used for Poseidon and later models. Reason: The above units (with “WY1”) are commonly used for Zeus, however, the part numbers will be distinguished for Poseidon and later models as A2YUWY2 (FS-533) and A3EPWY2 (FS-534). A modified FW supporting both of these FS-533/FS-534 (Zeus, Poseidon) will be installed in the finisher in the future. [Current status] Collar in grey are originally used for the paper exit roller for high visibility. Due to delayed material procurement at the beginning of mass production, however, black collars are used for a limited number of machines. [Correction] Gray collars will be used again when they become available. [No. of affected products] To be reported later.

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

5

Distorted image

35

[Current status] For Poseidon, the scale of the scanner is thicker than Zeus. With the original cover common with Zeus, accordingly, the edge of the original may easily be curled, thus resulting in distorted image sometime.

[Correction] To prevent the original mat running over on the scale, the mat will be enclosed with the machine (not attached), to be attached to the ADF after ADF alignment adjustment.

6

Notes on using FS-533

When using Poseidon in the field with FS-533 detached from the machine for any failure, remember to seal a tack label on the installation holes. [Reason] When the installation hole is opened, laser light may be leaked off from it. The holes are covered with a sticker from inside the machine at delivery normally, to be opened with a screw when the FS is installed. Be sure to cover the hole when using the machine with FS detached.

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

7

Compliance of paper feed cabinet to Chinese GB Standard

Paper feed cabinet produced on May 5, 2015 and later will be compliant to Chinese GB Standard (compliance as standard). For identification, the machines produced on May 4, 2015 or earlier, which are not compliant to the Standard, will be attached with a label implying “No shipping to China”. Be sure not to ship any paper feed cabinet with this label on the package. *This label is intended for identification at the factory, so please ignore it.

8

Notes on using HT-509

For Poseidon, when installing HT-509 on the machine using PC-113/213/413 or DK-513, attach the “Caution Hot” label enclosed with HT-509 on the following position.

[Applicable machines] 230/120V machines, 100V machines are N/A. 9

Misalignment of paper at the finisher when “Letter” size is used with paper cassettes 1 and 2

[Current status] As the interim measures for the mis-detection of “Letter” paper for A4 (only when set in a longitudinal direction), the rack gear of the regulating plate in the cassette is displaced 1mm toward the front side in the production line to widen the detection difference between “Letter” and “A3” for more accurate detection. When using the machine with the finisher (installed at the field), however, the paper fed into the finisher will be displaced by 1mm toward the front side, causing misalignment at the finisher sometimes especially for thin, soft paper etc. [Permanenc correction] The rack gear will be placed at the original position and the cam (size regulating plate) will be modified in shape for more accurate paper size detection. If the detection accuracy is not enough even with these correction, an additional metal plate will be added for fine adjustment. In case you experience the above symptom when using finisher, do not perform the above correction (do not displace the rack gear toward the front side) since doing so will effect on “Letter” size detection. Should such improper detection occurs, please contact KMI, who will provide you with a special stopper of spare part. [Start of the permanent correction] August 2015 (planned)

Near Empty Detection at LCC may be inaccurate

37

With Near Empty Detection at LCC (PC-413), the amount of paper remained in the LCC is predicted with the rotation count of the motor of the bottom plate of LCC. After discontinuing of the near detection sensor, the prediction may have a margin of error and accordingly Status Display of Near Empty on the panel may be inaccurate. [Correction] No correction to be taken for a while. FW will be modified later.

11

[ADF] Abnormal noise (slipping sound) from the paper separation roller

Abnormal noise (slipping sound) may occur from the separation roller when special paper (Kaunet type2) is used as original paper. Adjust the spring pressure with the spacer.

12

[ADF] Measures for jam of original paper fed

When a thick paper having high friction resistance is frequently fed to ADF as original paper, pickup may fail due to rotating failure of the separation roller, causing jam. Adjust the spring pressure with the spacer. If medium-level pressure doesn’t work, increase to high pressure.

Elemen t Transfer

Symptom

Cause/Mechanism of the Symptom

White/black lines in CD direction at approx. 30mm and 38mm from the edge

Approx. 30mm from the leading edge: Shock noise generated by paper being fed into the transfer section Approx. 38mm from the leading edge: Shock noise generated by paper being fed into the nip

In a copied gray chart, white lines appear at approx. 30mm and black lines at approx. 38mm both from the leading edge in CD direction.

2

39

Transfer

White lines in CD direction at approx. 100mm from the trailing edge of thick paper

Reason for Acceptance/Preventive measures Judged as Acceptable since; - The lines are less distinguished in general text documents. - The lines are distinguished in a deep text halftone document. As preventive measures, try setting "Photo" mode and the lines will be less distinguished.

Shock noise generated by paper passing through the paper take-up roller of the bypass

Judged as Acceptable since; - The lines are less distinguished in general text documents. - The lines are distinguished in a deep text halftone document. As preventive measures, try setting "Photo" mode and the lines will be less distinguished, or use bypass tray or paper cassette 1.

In a copied gray chart, white lines appear at approx. 100mm from the trailing edge of thick paper.

section 3

Transfer

White lines in CD direction at approx. 30mm from the trailing edge of thick paper In a copied halftone document in thick paper (CC220), white lines appear in CD direction at approx. 33mm from the trailing edge.

When a thick paper pass through the timing roller, at the trailing edge, it may be slightly release from the roller (unstable contact between paper and the roller), where while lines occur with electric discharge.

Judged as Acceptable since: - The lines are less distinguished in general text documents. - The lines are distinguished in a deep text halftone document. As preventive measures, try FDdirection paper feed or decrease the transfer voltage.

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

4

Transfer

Lines in CD direction at approx. 130mm from the edge on the 2nd side of thick paper

Such lines in CD direction will occur as follows: 1. Paper gets curled at the trailing edge. 2. When this edge is fed into the fusing nip, it gives impacts, causing exposure position to be slightly dislocated.

As preventive measures, try setting "Photo" mode and the lines will be less distinguished, or make "paper curl compensation" (manually) after 1st side paper feed to make the lines less distinguished.

In a copied gray chart in thick paper, in doublesided, lines appear in CD direction at approx. 130mm from the leading edge of the 2nd side.

5

Paper exit

Droplet mark due to dew condensation Water droplet mark will be come out on copied/printed image when; 1. Continuous paper feed is performed immediately after the machine is powered on. 2. Immediately after that, paper feed in double-sided is performed.

6

Scanner

Winded image occurred in DF paper feed In a scanned image, lines in FD direction around 30mm from the leading/trailing edge may be winded due to the curled document etc.

Judged as Acceptable since: - The lines are less distinguished in general text documents. - The lines are distinguished in a deep text halftone document.

When continuous paper feed (for about 100 sheets) is performed immediately after the machine is powered on, moisture in the paper will move upward onto the guide and the roller of the paper exit reversing section, where droplet is created. Then, if paper feed in double-sided is performed immediately after that, the droplet will adhere to paper, then the mark will be come out on the copied/printed image.

Judged as Acceptable since; - This symptom occurs under limited conditions. - Such droplet mark will appear only on a few sheets of paper.

Due to the combined structure of CCD and scanner of the scanner IR unit, the distance between the scanner glass surface and the original has been changed, so that the position of the image scanned has also been changed. Accordingly, any lines in FD direction may be winded in a copied/printed image.

- In normal usage, winding of lines is not so different with ZeusMLK. - Preventive measures (Put paper in A4SEF at DF or manually on the original glass) are available. - Countermeasures have side effects and cannot be applied.

Note: As preventive measures, use the fan. The fan doesn't operate under normal conditions but operates under high temperature.

Note: Holding capability when the original is put on OC-514 or DF-628 (when put manually) has been improved as equivalent to Zeus.

Scanner

DR

Winded lines in scanned image In a scanned image, lines are winded or text is extended/ contracted due to shock of the paper cassette being installed/removed. The level of this failure is the worst when the cassette is pulled out with about 1,000 sheets of paper loaded in the LCC. Such winding of lines are a bit more visible than Taiga. Thin black line in FD direction In a copied chart in betapatch which is left in an HH environment, after multiple copy is performed, a thin black line appears in FD direction at white solid part.

9

DR

Brightness difference in LL environment Image density difference occurs

41

Drawing the paper cassette from the main unit gives an impact on the moving scanner unit, then the scanned position of the image will be dislocated, causing straight lines to be winded or text to be extended/contracted.

Judged as Acceptable since; - It is unlikely that scanning operation and drawing of cassette occur concurrently (less than 0.0001%). - These winding or extension/contraction of any copied/printed text is minor level, which is not assumed to be a problem in the field.

This symptom appears in the currently available Taiga. The mechanism is as below: (1) A line of tiny amount of Ca (1μm), which is generated from calcium carbonate and calcium titanate of paper, is created on the PC. (2) In an HH environment, Ca adhered to the PC is more likely to absorb water, causing Vo (zero phase voltage) to be unstable.

Judged as Acceptable since the symptom occurs in a limited condition (left in an HH environment after multiple copy) and is not assumed to be problem in the field.

After paper in small size is fed and then paper in large size is fed, the sensitivity of the pc drum will vary between the part with paper frequently fed and the part without. In such a case, dot reproduction will also vary and density may be uneven.

Judged as Acceptable since the symptom occurs in a limited condition (paper in small size is fed and then large size, in LL environment), and it is not so much visible in normal documents.

As preventive measures, clean the DR or replace it. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

10

DR

when paper in small size is fed and then paper in large size fed in an LL environment.

In Gradation-First Mode the dot reproduction change is not easily identified compared to Error Diffusion Mode and this symptom has been recognized only in Error Diffusion Mode.

As preventive measures, feed paper of about 100 sheets and such difference will be less recognized. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

Dirt on around the trailing edge of thick paper and postcard

The trailing edge of paper, when it is released away from the registration roller, hits the guide duct and this impact will cause toner to scatter around, resulting in dirt on paper.

Judged as Acceptable since such dirt appears in a first few sheets of paper (not so frequent). (Symptom level: Better than Taiga)

On the 1st page copied/printed in such standby mode, print density will be uneven in CD direction. This is because the pc drum is exposed to moisture coming from developer and its sensitivity becomes uneven.

Judged as Acceptable since the symptom occurs only under the following conditions and the frequency is very low at the field: - Low humidity - In gray solid image only. No occurrence in black solid or text image. Minor level in dot halftone. - Depending on how many copies have been taken before standby, the symptom will be worse. With previous multi copy more than 300 sheets, the symptom becomes visible. With 500 sheets the most visible level. - In 4 P/J copy (normal mode), the symptom doesn't appear. - The symptom will appear most frequently in 10 min. in standby mode; after that it will be converged. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

Ozone gas generated at the pc drum charge part will change the sensitivity of the photosensitive layer temporarily, causing band noise.

Judged as Acceptable since; - Noise will not appear after several copies are taken. - Noise is minor level in normal image.

In a copied paper, which is hard such as thick paper or label paper, the trailing edge may be contaminated with toner for the first some sheets. 11

12

DR

DR

Black bands in 94mm pitch in CD direction in halftone document, in Low Humidity Environment When copy/print a halftone document after copying multiple sheets and then leave machine in standby mode (for about 10 min. or more), the output halftone will have black bands in the pitch of pc drum, in CD direction. Noise in 94mm pitch occurs first in the morning in HH environment Disordered image (noise) may appear in 94mm pitch in CD direction when copy/print in first thing in the morning in an HH environment.

By use of the drum dehumidifier, such noise can be reduced (hardly distinguished). Also, this measure is easily adopted in the field. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

13

Paper conveya nce

Roller marks on OHP sheet In a copied OHP sheet, in the first several sheets, white bands appear on the position of the paper exit roller rubber parts.

14

Paper conveya nce

Marks of paper separation claws on the trailing edge

Wax contained in polymerized toner gets accumulated on the roller rubber parts, then transferred to be adhered to OHP sheets when they are fed.

43

Judged as Acceptable since; - Marks are minor level in a copied text image, though distinguished in an OHP sheet when it is fed after solid copy. - Marks will not appear after several sheets are fed. As preventive measures, rub the marks with your finger (disappeared).

The trailing edge flips up and then touches the paper separation claw, causing toner on the claw to adhere to the paper.

Dirt (marks of separation claws) may appear on around the trailing edge on; - Large size paper (A3, WLT) - Low stiffness paper

Judged as Acceptable since; - No consecutive occurrence observed, so considered not to be serious in the field. Note: Such marks will appear, at worst, in 2mm from the trailing edge (depends on paper type). As preventive measures, clean the separation claws at PM/CM or adjust the guide plate of the fusing unit. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

Spec: No dirt should be found on 2mm inside from the trailing edge. 15

Fusing

Fusing offset In a double-sided copied plain paper (high electrical resistance), in an LL environment, fusing offset or dirt may appear. This symptom is more likely to occur the first thing in the morning.

With use of high-resistance paper, in an LL environment, fusing offset may occur as follows: 1. Electrical resistance increases on the second side. 2. When paper goes into the fusing nip, toner will be transferred to the fusing roller. 3. The transferred part of the fusing roller will transfer toner to paper or the pressure roller, causing dirt on paper.

Judged as Acceptable since; - This symptom occurs under limited conditions (LL environment, high electrical resistance, double-sided). - This symptom will not occur in normal use. As preventive measures, decrease transfer output voltage to make dirt less distinguished. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

Service Preparation Guide  bizhub 367 / 287 / 227  ineo 367 / 287 / 227

16

Fusing

OHP offset OHP offset may occur and pale text will be seen.

Wax contained in polymerized toner will cause offset on the fusing roller, then the toner will be transferred to the OHP sheet.

Judged as Acceptable since such offset cannot be seen when it is projected (visible on OHP sheet when directly watched) and considered not to be serious in the field. No complaints have been raised against the conventional models in the field. (Symptom level: Equivalent to Taiga)

Service recommendations against wrong product placement

The service and support will have to deal with all machines placed by sales. On previous products we often faced difficulties after a wrong placement. The customer was not satisfied with the capabilities the machine is offering. In order to improve this situation, we want to share our ideas to avoid wrong placement. As this machine is not ranked as being vulnerable against a wrong placement, we just kindly ask you to take care of the table below presenting the machine target values. Within this range we can expect good working conditions.
