SCENE 1: Prologue

SCENE 2: Belle

NARRATOR: Once upon a time, in a faraway land, A young Prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired, The Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind.

Belle: Little town, it's a quiet village Ev'ry day like the one before Little town full of little people, Waking up to say… Bonjour, Bonjour, Bonjour, Bonjour, Bonjour,

(The light reveals an old Beggar Woman.) But then, one winter's night, An old beggar woman came to the castle And offered him a single Rose In return for shelter from the bitter cold. (The actors pantomime the action as the Narrator continues.) Repulsed by her haggard appearance, The Prince sneered at the gift, And turned the old woman away. But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, For Beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again, The old woman's ugliness melted away To reveal a beautiful Enchantress. (She is transformed into an Enchantress. He falls to his knees, begging forgiveness.) The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, For she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous beast, And placed a powerful spell on the castle, And all who lived there. (The prince was transformed into a beast holding a mirror) Ashamed of his monstrous form, The beast concealed himself inside his castle, With a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. (The Rose appears.) The Rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, Which would bloom for many years. (The Beast covers it with a glass dome for protection.) If he could learn to love another, And earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, Then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. (The Beast gazes at the Rose…trapped, forlorn and hopeless.) As the years passed, He fell into despair, and lost all hope, For who could ever learn to love...a Beast?

Belle: There goes the baker with his tray, like always The same old bread and rolls to sell Ev'ry morning just the same, Since the morning that we came To this poor provincial town Baker: Good Morning, Belle! Belle: Good Morning, Monsieur. Baker: Where are you off to, today? Belle: The bookshop. I just finished the most wonderful story About a beanstalk and an ogre and a Baker: That's nice. Marie! The baguettes! Hurry up! Townsfolk: Look there she goes that girl is strange, no question Dazed and distracted, can't you tell? Never part of any crowd 'Cause her head's up on some cloud No denying she's a funny girl that Belle Now it's no wonder that her name means "Beauty" Her looks have got no parallel But behind that fair facade I'm afraid she's rather odd Very diff'rent from the rest of us She's nothing like the rest of us Yes, diff'rent from the rest of us is Belle! Lefou: I got it Gaston! Wow! You didn't miss a shot, Gaston! You're the greatest hunter in the whole world!. Gaston: I know. Your happiness is more important than anything else in this world. BELLE: Thank you! I shall see you again.

Gaston got a chance, plunges a knife; then went away) BEAST: I thought you’ll never get back. BELLE: Stop it. If only, I came back earlier, this wouldn’t happen. BEAST: At least before I die, I have had seen your face. Your presence is more than enough. I love you Belle. BELLE: I love you too. SCENE 8: FINALE (Transformation Music: Belle is crying) Prince: Do not cry anymore Belle. I am alive. Belle, look into my eyes! Don't you recognize? The beast became a man. BELLE: (She looks closer) It is you! Prince: It is me. I am not a beast anymore.

SCENE 7: GASTON Maurice: The beast took Belle. The beast imprisoned my daughter. Gaston’s Cronies: Crazy old inventor! Belle: Papa... Here I am... Maurice: How did you get out from the beast? Belle: He didn’t harm me papa. He is so kind, so sweet; He’s a real gentleman. He took care of me. He’s a real prince charming though his looks may not. Gaston: Do you love that monster Belle? (Roars) Belle: He’s not a monster!! You are even worse than him. Gaston: Do you choose him over me. Belle: Yes! Let’s go papa...

Tale as old as time True as it can be Barely even friends Then somebody bends unexpectedly Just a little change Small to say the least Both a little scared Neither one prepared Beauty and the beast
