MATACID® BD LIQUID Acid Buffer cum dispersant for dyeing of polyester and its blends

Technical Literature

INTRODUCTION It is widely known that pH control is an easy operation to be carried out. However, it is the most difficult feature in any industry. The control of pH in textile coloration processes is ensured by three fundamentally different techniques: - the maintenance of relatively high degree of acidity or alkalinity - the control of pH within fairly narrow tolerances mainly in the neutral region - the gradual shifting of the pH as a coloration process proceeds The dyeing of polyester at temperatures in the region of 120-140°C in beam and package dyeing machines has placed especially great demands on aspects of both initial dispersion quality and on subsequent stability under adverse conditions. Disperse dyes are susceptible to reduction under certain conditions. This instability to reduction is minimized by dyeing at the optimum pH, usually 4-5, in presence of air, and by keeping less dyeing time at high temperature. For this reason, Acid buffer is required to maintain a constant pH of the dye bath in the weakly acid region i.e. 4-5 with its buffering action and thus lead to perfectly reproducible dyeings even when using pH sensitive dyes. Matacid BD liquid is an acid buffer that not only maintains the pH 4-5 during polyester dyeing but also promotes uniform and stable dispersion of relatively small particles in a given matrix.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION The additional usage of acid, acid salts or special dispersants is unnecessary. In contrast to volatile acids, such as acetic acid, Matacid BD liquid does not escape from the dye liquor, when dyeing in open bath. Matacid BD liquid forms complexes with heavy metal ions and thus prevents change of shade e.g. of copper sensitive dyes, but does not attack metal complex dyes. Exhaust dyeing of polyester and its blends : Set the dye-bath at 60°C with 1.0 - 1.5 % Matacid BD liquid (according to water condition) 0.5 - 2.0 % Matlevel LPF liquid (pH :4.5-5.5) Treat the material for 5 - 10 minutes. Then add dyestuff dispersion, run for 5-10 minutes. Raise the temperature to 130°C and carry out the dyeing at 130°C for 40-60 minutes.
