When you issue a CROSSCHECK command, RMAN searches on disk and tape for the backups and copies recorded in the repository. If it does not find them, then it updates their repository records to status EXPIRED. Process of having a copy of redo log files is called mirroring. This can be achieved by creating group of log files together, so that LGWR will automatically writes them to all the members of the current on-line redo log group. If you do a comparison between pairs of readings based on some arbitrary time span, this is the instantaneous ratio for that time span. Generally speaking an instantaneous reading gives more valuable data since it will tell you what your instance is doing for the time it was generated over. 291.
