Purpose

The purpose of this document is to describe the Baseband GSM configuration process and steps using PCI (Product Configuration & Integration Tool) to create the configuration files (or scripts). There are two types of configuration processe processess described in this document:

2.1

Greenfield

Migration from G1 to G2/Baseband

Target Groups

This document is targeted at those who need to know the end-to-end NRO engineering process, such as: 

RAN Integration Engineers

Advanced Engineers

Solution Architects

Baseband RAN GSM Network Architecture

3.1

Overview

The Ericsson Baseband RAN network solution provides high speeds and reliability of mobile broadband service, which can be used in a dense urban environment, such as a sports stadium, a shopping mall, or a central train station, where a larger number of mobile users are concentrated in a relative small area. These Baseband RBS products enhance Macro cell solution.

4.2.2

Migration Support and Exceptions

4.2.2.1

Support

Reference

GSM Migration process supports the following: 

4.2.2.2

Swapping down a DUG20 to Baseband unit in an RBS 6000, where Abis over IP is already implemented, Removal of SIU from the site after the swap, and synchronization for DUG20 is provided by SIU through E1 link.

Exceptions

The following options are not supported:

    

SIU/TCU with any special IP related features (TWAMP, IPSec etc.) SIU/TCU is required to remain active on site for routing purposes Migration from Abis over TDM to Abis over IP Migration of SIU/TCU to T605/T503 Synchronization Synchronizati on from other than NTP

4.3

Prerequisites for Migration

4.3.1

OSS Requirements

New Baseband will will have dire direct ct connection to the OSS. As it is manageable manageable from the the OSS, tthe he OSS should should be configured accordingly. It is recommended to have the same OSS for supporting BSC and Baseband unit too. Later if mixed mode is planned to be used in the Baseband-Based Node, then it is recommended to have the same OSS for supporting GSM and other technologies involved in mixed mode in Baseband units. Note:

Please refer to Baseband Common Configuration Guide in Reference [1] for [1] for detail.

4.4

Supported features

List of supported and not supported feature can be found in document User Description, Baseband Radio Node for GSM [18]. [18]. The actual site, TG and cell configuration should be checked against the not supported features, and if they are activated then the necessary changes should be made prior to the DUG20 swap.

4.5

NUMREQBPC

NUMREQBPC  NUMREQB PC parameter parameter cannot be set tto o SYSDEF SYSDEF in case of Baseband-Based N Node. ode.

IDB and OMT concept is no longer supported, instead a MOM structure should be used for BTS side configuration One Baseband unit can handle multiple cells and each cell requires one RXSTG, instead of 1 common RXOTG like in the case of DUG20 Instead of RXOTG structure, an RXSTG structure should be defined in the BSC, which is very different than RXOTG structure was RXSTRX and its subordinates are defined automatically by the system CHGR and RXSTG relation should be handled through RXTCI Start of RXSTG works the same way as before (RXESI, RXBLE) however the SUBORD  parameter is no longer applicable. applicable. Baseband concept will use the SECTOR parameter to make L2TP connection between the Baseband unit and PGW, instead of PSTU/TGTransport (Note: the SECTOR and PSTU values must be unique on BSC level and one value shouldn’t be used for both parameters) Baseband unit has direct connection to OSS. Configuration should be handled from OSS, BTS related alarms are reported to OSS, not to BSC any more. ESB is not supported in case of Baseband-Based Node. All cables can be reused from configuration with DUG20 (expect the ESB cable), however different cable length may be needed as the port positions differ.  NUMREQBPC  NUMREQB PC cannot be sset et to SYS SYSDEF DEF value.

New GSM MOM Structure

The MOM structure is the new concept of defining and storing parameters in the Baseband unit. The MOM structure should be loaded directly onto the node. The full MOM structure including the new GRAT MOM can be found in User Guide, Manage Radio Network GSM [13]. [13]. The MOM structure needed for a Baseband unit used for GSM should contain the following:

10.2.1

GRAT MOM as GSM only related set of parameters, and

CAT & TN MOM structure which will be common for the supported radio technologies.

GRAT MOM

In order to handle Baseband GSM functionality, functionality, the following GRAT MOs need to be defined. 

BtsFunction;

GsmSector;

Licenses and HW Activation Codes

Currently all the licenses and HWACs are loaded onto APG of BSC. From the new Baseband node, the radio node related feature licenses and HW activation codes are loaded onto the RBS. The “Old” and released HWACs can be moved back to the common license pool. They cannot be exchanged to new ones, according to the current state. More information regarding HWACs and licenses can be found in document User Description, GSM RAN Handling of Softwar Softwaree Licenses, and Hardware Activation Codes [18] [18]..

License Changes on BSC Side

The following licenses/HWACs licenses/HWACs are affected due to the migration from DUG to baseband Node as the relevant HWACs are loaded on Baseband side. These can be reduced after the migration.

11.3

SA Es

For new Baseband, the RXSTG structure will use a new range of SAEs in BSC. To ensure that new RXSTG structure and also RXSTRX structures structures can be defined ,a group of new SAEs should be taken into consideration. List of the SAEs and more information can be found in document SIZE ALTERATION EVENTS IN BSC/TRC [4] [4] .  .
