(Students will raise their hand.)

Yes (students).

Ma’am last week we discussed about poem and its elements.

That’s right! Do you have any question or clarification regarding our last topic?

 None Ma’am

If none, then let us proceed to our lesson for today. “So class how was your weekend?” “That’s good have you enjoyed your weekend  bonding with your family?”

“It is very nice.” “It is very beautiful and uplifting.” “It is very heart felting story.”

“Yes Ma’am because I want to be famous.”

“You know, you can be all good writers someday. But it is not a snap of a finger that you’ll be an excellent writer. You might ne ed several experiences or exert so much effort and hard work and sometimes, those writers who are well-known today are just the one who wants to express their feelings and emotions  brought by both colourful and painful experiences. Just try to write with emotion, with feelings or something that comes from the heart.”

E. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

Now class, yesterday I gave you an assignment. I told you to look for the meaning of some unfamiliar words. Okay everyone get your notebook please.

PRE-READING: VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT: 1.maiden 2.pleaded 3. persistent 4.deeds 5. groaned

Karen kindly read the meaning of the word maiden.

“Ma’am, maiden noun- a girl or young woman, especially an unmarried one.”

That’s right. How about the word pleaded, (student).

“Ma’am pleaded verb means to appeal earnestly; to beg.”

Correct. The third one (student) kindly read.

“Ma’am persistent adjective means refusing to give up or let go; persevering obstinately.”

Correct. Number four (student).

“Ma’am deeds noun- Something that is carried out; an act or action.”

Good. Last number. (Student).

“Ma’am groaned verb- to voice a deep, inarticulate sound, as of pain, grief, or

displeasure.”

That’s right. Now class I let you define those unfamiliar words because those words are found in the poem that we will discuss for today. This poem is entitled “Ballad of a Mother’s Heart” by. Jose La Villa Tierra . Now let me give you first a short biography of Jose La Villa Tierra, so he comes from Atimonan, Quezon, Philippines. His philosophy of education is: "No man is truly educated until he has learned his two R's which are RIGHT and (W)RONG  Now class before we read the poem what first is your understanding after you heard the title “Ballad of a Mother’s Heart”?

“Ma’am for me based on the title I think it is about mothers love and care for her child.” “Ma’am for me it is about the greatness and undying love of your mother”

Very nice understanding, let see if your understanding is all correct.  Now class let’s start reading the poem read first the first stanza. were thick, yet Youth went

WHILE-READING: “Ballad of a Mother’s Heart” By. Jose La Villa Tierra The night was dark, for the moon was young And the stars were asleep and rare; The clouds were thick, yet Youth went out To see his Maiden fair.

(After reading the first stanza). What is the first stanza being described?

“That’s right. Now continue reading the second, third and fourth stanzas.”

(Students will read.)

“Ma’am it is the setting of the story. The moon was hiding from the clouds seem it will be raining because the stars are sleep”

" Dear One," he pleaded as he knelt Before her feet, in tears,

" My love is true; why have you kept  Me waiting all these years?"

(Students will read.)

The maiden looked at him unmoved, It seemed, and whispered low:

" Persistent Youth, you have to prove By deeds your love is true." " There's not a thing I would not do F or you, Beloved," said he. " Then go,"  said she, " to your mother dear  And bring her heart to me." “(After reading the second, third and fourth stanza.) Now from the line “go to your mother dear and bring her heart to me" in fourth stanza, what it is tells about?”

(Students will read.)

(Students will read.)

“Ma’am the line, "go to your mother dear and  bring her heart to me", does not speak of its literal meaning but it wants us to reflect on the thought that no man could ever love a woman whose own mother was not loved.”

“That was a great explanation. Now continue reading the fifth, sixth and seventh stanzas.”

Without another word, Youth left and went to his mother dear. And opened her breast and took her heart. He did not shed a tear! Then back to his Maiden fair he ran, Unmindful of the rain; But his feet slipped and he fell down And loud he groaned with pain! Still in his hand he held the prize That would win his Maiden's hand; And he thought of his mother dear So kind, so sweet, so fond.

(After reading the fifth, sixth and seventh stanzas.) What do you feel after reading the three stanzas?

(Students will read.)

(Students will read.)

(Students will read.)

“Ma’am I feel angry to the boy, because he is willing to sacrifice his mother’s life just to  prove his love to the maiden. He only proves

I also agree to you. But then class I know all of you feels what I feel just hold your feelings.  Now class, continue reading the last stanza.

And then he heard a voice, Not from his lips but all apart: " Get up,"  it said; " Were you hurt, Child?" It was his mother's heart.

(After reading the last stanza.)Now class what do you think is the last stanza tells about?

how he is too much obsessed to the girl, that he didn’t think all the things that his mother done to him. He didn’t think that without her mother he will not appear in this world.

(Students will read.)

“Ma’am the protagonist of the poem is seeking a young girl's love, but she tells him to prove himself by bringing her his mother's heart. He runs home, and without a second thought, tears it out of her chest. In his hurry to deliver the heart, he slips and falls. He hears a voic e asking if he is hurt and realizes it is his mother's heart.”

Yes that’s right. Now class, let’s read again the whole poem.

POST-READING: “Ballad of a Mother’s Heart” By. Jose La Villa Tierra The night was dark, for the moon was young And the stars were asleep and rare; The clouds were thick, yet Youth went out To see his Maiden fair.

" Dear One," he pleaded as he knelt Before her feet, in tears,

" My love is true; why have you kept  Me waiting all these years?"

(Students will read the poem in chorus.)

The maiden looked at him unmoved, It seemed, and whispered low:

" Persistent Youth, you have to prove By deeds your love is true." " There's not a thing I would not do F or you, Beloved," said he. " Then go,"  said she, " to your mother dear  And bring her heart to me." Without another word, Youth left and went to his mother dear. And then he heard a voice, Not from his lips but all apart: " Get up,"  it said; " Were you hurt, Child?" It was his mother's heart.

“ Now class after reading the poem, what do you think is the interpretation of the whole  poem Ballad of a Mother’s Heart?”

Exactly! So all your understanding earlier was

“Ma’am it is all about a mother’s love for a child is like nothing else in the world. Even though the child technically murdered her own mother in order to have her heart, the mother still cares for her child in times when her child is at pain or danger. No matter what happens, she still there, giving encouragement and showing care for her child. The poem relates how forgiving and how great the love of a mother is for her son although he has hurt her very much”.

all correct. So class, after reading the poem do you thinks the sacrifices of the mother was all worth it?

(Students will answer.)

That’s nice, so class what are the values that you learned, after reading the poem?

(Student’s will answer.)
