Approx. 30 x 40 cm (12" x 16") Materials: Brocade fabric, 140 cm (55") wide: 0.45 m (1⁄2 yd). Vilene/Pellon fusible interfacing H 200. Pre-folded satin bias tape, 2 cm (3⁄4") wide: 3.30 m (35⁄8 yds). Sequin tape, 5 mm (3⁄16") wide: 0.60 m (24"). Seam allowances: 1 cm (3⁄8") for seams and 2 cm (3⁄4") on upper edge of bag. Cutting: Bag piece: 60 cm (24") long (finished height = 30 cm / 12") and 40 cm (16") wide. 2 handle pieces, each 58 cm (23") long and 4 cm (11⁄2") wide (finished width = 2 cm / 3⁄4"). Flower: cut circle with 20 cm (8") Ø. Interfacing: Iron to wrong side of handle pieces. Sewing: On wrong side of bag piece, mark lines for tie band casings, 6 cm (21⁄2") and 8 cm (31⁄4") from each narrow edge. Also mark center bottom line across bag piece, halfway between narrow edges. Fold bag piece on this center bottom

line, right side facing in (matching narrow edges). Stitch side edges closed, interrupting stitching on each side between lines for casing. Finish edges of seam allowances. Press seams open. Fold bag so that each side seam lies on center bottom line, right side facing in. Stitch at right angle to seam, 5 cm (2") from the point that is formed. Trim away point 1 cm (3⁄8") from this stitching and finish resulting edges together. Press allowance on upper edge of bag to inside, turn raw edge under,

and edgestitch in place. From bias tape, cut 2 pieces, each 46 cm (18") long. Pin pieces to inside of bag to meet marked casing lines, turning ends under at seam openings. Edgestitch edges of bias tape in place. Cut remaining bias tape into 2 equal pieces. Fold pieces in half lengthwise, wrong side facing in, and edgestitch long edges closed. Pull one piece around bag, through casing, from one side, and pull second piece around bag, through casing, from the opposite side. Knot ends of each piece together. Press allowances on all edges of each handle piece to wrong side. Fold handles to 2 cm (3⁄4") wide and edgestitch long edges closed. Pin ends of each handle to inside upper edge of bag, 6 cm (21⁄2") from side seams. Stitch across handles along upper stitching lines and 1 cm (3⁄8") below upper stitching lines. Cut spiral (approx. 5 cm / 2" wide) to center of flower circle. Handstitch running stitches along inner edge, pull thread to gather, and sew edges together at center of flower. Sew center of sequin tape under center of flower. Sew flower to bag front as illustrated.
