Differences between KP and Four Step Method The Four Step Method was presented in easy manner by a study note on “Four Step Theory” in the KPE-Zine, Dec 2007 issue. Here is another study note on differences between KP and Four Step Method. Sr 1

2

KP Signification by a Planet 1)Planet is the source, constellation indicates nature of the results and the SUB is deciding factor whether the matter is favorable or not 2) K.M. Subramaniam considers the sub lord as a decider and its star lord for its signification. (Sublord Speaks LX, last article, in K P & Astrology 1998) Basic Significators 1) All significators are considered in the order of strength, grade A,B,C,D & E with the astrologer’s own judgment based on his experience taking into account of sub lords. 2) Signification at the planet, star and sub levels are simultaneously considered by C.R. Bhatt, K.M. Subramaniam (Sublord Speaks), Kanak Bosmia etc. 3) A planet having no planet in its star is considered as a strong significator of the houses for whose cusps the planet is a sub lord. (Kuppu Ganapathi, Vaikari Ramamurthy, Kanak Bosmia etc) 4) The sub lord is a decider in judging whether a planet or cusp or significator or dasa lord is favorable or not.

FOUR STEP Signification by a Planet 1) A planet signifies the event through 4 steps: i)Planet itself, ii) Star lord of the planet, iii) Sub lord of the planet, iv) Star lord of this sub lord, and 3rd & 4th steps are more important. 2) The 4th step is the alleged extension. 3) The SUB lord in 3rd step is also a significator not a decider like in KP.

Basic Significators 1) Only the primary or strong significators are considered. 2) The house occupied by a planet with no planet in its star or a planet in its own star (KP grade B significator) and the houses owned by the planet when they are empty (KP grade D significators) are 4 step primary significators (upgraded KP grade A significators from B & D). 3) The house occupied by a planet acting as the star lord of another planet, i.e. a planet in the step 2 or 4 (KP grade A significator) and the houses owned by the planet when they are empty (KP grade C significators) are 4 step primary significators (KP grade A & upgraded KP grade A significators from C). 4) The signification of a planet in 1st and 3rd step (sub lord) having another planet in its star is not considered, i.e. useless.

Rahu/Ketu Significators 1) Whether Rahu/Ketu is a planet or star lord or sub lord, the followings e been found taken in KP Readers depending on relevance to the event under consideration regardless of their sequence of order (“Rahu/Ketu Rules in KP” by Tin Win in KPE-Zine, May 2007): i) House occupied by Rahu/Ketu, ii) Planet in conjun. with Rahu/Ketu, iii) Planet in aspect to Rahu/Ketu and iv) Star lord of Rahu/Ketu, v) Sign lord of rasi sign occupied by Rahu/Ketu. 2) Conjunction in the same rasi sign and Hindu aspect without orb are used. 3) No planet is wholly benefic or malefic depending on the signification at 3 levels by occupation and lordship. KP Grade E to Grade A Significators 1) They are considered as weak significator after grade A,B,C & D and used as a last resort. 2) Conjunction in the same rasi sign and Hindu aspect are considered without using orb. 3) Grade E significators are planets which are conj. and aspected “by” significators A,B,C,D but not planets “aspecting” A,B,C,D. 4) No planet is wholly benefic or malefic depending on its signification at planet, star and sub levels by occupation and lordship. 5) Rahu/Ketu does not aspect any planet or house since it is not a planet having physical body but it is only a sensitive intersecting point in the pathway of Sun and Moon.

ISSUE # 7

JULY 2008

Rahu/Ketu Significators 1) The same rules of primary significators in point 2.2. apply to Rahu/Ketu. 2) Only if Rahu/Ketu is itself the primary significator, then the house occupied, the planets in conjunction or aspecting within the orb of 3° 20′ (extendable to 5° esp. for fast moving planets, if needed), its star lord and sign lord also will become the primary significators. 3) When Rahu/Ketu is the star lord of another planet, i.e. it is in the step 2 or 4, the house occupied and the houses owned by its star lord are considered. 4) Rahu is a blemish planet, which creates problems and does not give the results effectively to the native when it is in the DBA, unless Rahu is a strong significator of the improving houses in all 4 steps.

KP Grade E to Grade A Significators 1) If a planet is in conjunction with a cusp within the prescribed orb, behind or ahead the cusp, the planet automatically becomes a primary (KP grade A) significator of this cusp in any of 4 steps. 2) Only if the original planet itself is a primary significator, i) if a planet is conjoined with another planet within the prescribed orb, the planet is a primary significator of another planet, ii) if a planet aspects on the cusps within the prescribed orb, the planet becomes a primary significator of these houses whose cusps are aspected; iii) if a planet has the Hindu aspect (throwing or receiving) with another planet within the prescribed orb, the planet is a primary significator of another planet. 3) Ketu’s 7th aspect on the cusp is taken. 4) A well known practitioner does not use the 7th aspect of planets. Ruling Planets Ruling Planets 1) The RPs in order of preference are: 1) The RPs are in the order of: i) Lagna i) Lagna’s star lord lord, ii) Moon’s star lord, iii) Moon’s sign ii) Lagna’s sign lord lord, and iv) Day lord only. iii) Moon’s star lord 2) Rahu/Ketu is considered as RP, only if it iv) Moon’s sign lord directly appears in the RPs. v) Day lord, 3) The alleged advancement of 4 step is 2) Moon’s sub lord and Lagna’s sub fixing the DBA without using the RPs. lord are added by some KP followers. 4) But RPs are used to confirm or correct 3) If Rahu/Ketu is in conj. or aspect the sub lord of the cusp under judgment. with the RP; or if it occupies the sign But it is not to recast the horoscope again owned by the RP, Rahu/Ketu should be and to correct only the required sub lord because when one judges the other matter included as the RP. PAGE # 6 / 67

ASTROVISION 4) The RP in the star or sub of retrograde planet should be omitted.

Retrogression 1) It does not matter in the natal chart analysis but it does not give results in Horary, if it comes as star/sub lords to the significator. 2) A convincing proof is still needed for a claim that retrogression has no effect in Horary. Uranus, Neptune & Pluto Pluto, no more a planet since 2006, now called Plutoid, was not even mentioned in KP Readers. No planet is wholly benefic or malefic. House Grouping Mostly 3, rarely 4 houses are grouped for an event to happen. More than one Marriage If 7th cusp sub lord is connected to duality & 2nd cusp sub lord signifies 7th Cannot Own a House in Life Guruji KSK’s 4th cusp sub lord is Rahu.(Astrosecrets & KP Part II, p 252) Child Sex By male or female planet of 5th cusp sub lord, its star lord, lords of the signs occupied by them and planets conj. and aspecting them.(MP Shanmugam) Promise of Event 1) It is promised, if the sub lord of cusp under judgment is a significator of any of the required houses (2, 7, 11 for marriage) without any other strong negative signification. 2) It is not promised, if the cusp sub lord does not signify any of the required houses or there is a strong negative signification. . Negative House The previous house is detrimental or Vyaya or negative to the matters of next house. (KP Reader III & IV, Bhatt’s Nakshatra Chintamani). Computerized Significators Grade A,B,C & D are not final and to be judged by the concerned subs etc.

ISSUE # 7 JULY 2008 of the same native then again one will confirm the related cuspal sub lord..

Retrogression 1) Retrogression is not working in the Horary as well as natal prediction. 2) But retrogression is used in checking the transits of DBA lords, which should not be in the concerned star and sub of retrograde planets for the materialization of an event. Uranus, Neptune & Pluto Pluto gives adverse results. Negative effect of Neptune is not yet sure on the basis of insufficient cases. House Grouping More houses are added, for marriage 2,7,11 & 5,8; for foreign 3,9,12 & 5,7. More than one Marriage If the sub lords of 7th cusp & 7th cusp are the same. Cannot Own a House in Life If 4th cusp sub lord is Rahu, which is allegedly said by Guruji KSK. Child Sex If the 4th step star lord of child cusp (starting from 5th for mother and 11th for father) sub lord is in odd sign, male child is indicated; if in even sign, female. Promise of Event 1) It is promised, if the sub lord of concerned cusp under judgment is a primary significator of any of the required houses (2, 7, 11 & 5, 8 for marriage) in any of 4 steps unless there are only the primary significators of totally negative houses (1, 6, 10, 12) in the steps 3 and 4. 2) It is not promised, only if the primary significators of totally negative houses appear in the steps 3 & 4. Negative House The 1st house is not a negative house for 2nd, but a primary house to get money; 10th is not a negative house to 11th but it is not applicable in marriage matters. Computerized Significators They are final as supported by KPAstro 3.0, Astro-Kundli etc.

Fixing DBAS 1) 3 methods of selecting fruitful significators: i) by using RPs; ii) selecting the significators which are in the stars of the cusp sub lord of the concerned houses; iii) selecting the significators whose sub lords are one of the significators. 2) Significators which signify 12th to the required houses should be rejected. The houses 6,8,12 to the concerned house are unfavorable to this house. 3) A planet which appears many times among signficators/RPs or connected to various significators should be chosen. Transit Check An event generally happens during the joint period of the significators when the transit agrees i.e. at the time while Sun, Moon and joint DBAS lords are found to be transiting in the star or sub of the same joint DBAS lords.

Significators of almost All Houses 3 selection methods and other means in item 15 can be used. Bottom Line Since the techniques and steps are not the same, the results can be different.

JULY 2008

Fixing DBAS 1) The event will fructify only when the DBA lords are jointly the primary significators of all the required houses (2, 7, 11 for marriage), signifying at least one different house each by DBA. 2) Events are found happen without the complete DBA chain and so Sookshma is included to make a chain complete chain in DBAS. It is also said to use both chains without a prior clue which chain will be complete in reality. Some hints are available how to choose Antara but Sookshma is decided on case by case basis only. Transit Check 1) The event will fructify, only if the star lord for fast moving planets and sub lord for slow moving planets, in which the DBA lords are transiting, are the primary significators of the required houses in the first 2 steps, neglecting negative houses. 2) The event will not happen during the period while there are only the primary significators of the totally negative houses in the first 2 steps or while the said star lord or sub lord is retrograde. Significators of almost All Houses It is stuck and the same with significators of a very few houses only. Bottom Line Since the techniques and steps are not the same, the results can be different

Democratic nomination for President of the United States My sister who is living in USA was interested to know who will be elected as a Presidential candidate; either Hillary Clinton Or Barack Obama? She gave me number 123. This time also I want to Analyze chart with different view and my own different Rules. Rule:1 One can selected as a candidate or get ticket for election if Asc (Tendency of people of Country) sub lord should be signifies 6(victory), 11 (Gain). For opponent candidate Asc (Tendency of people of Country) sub lord should be signifies 12(victory of Opponent), 5 (Gain of opponent) Rule:2 One can be selected as a candidate or get ticket for elections if 3rd (View of People) sublord should be signifies 1(Self), 6(victory), 11 (Gain). But If 9th (opposite View of People) sub lord signifies 7(Opponent) 12(victory of Opponent), 5 (Gain of opponent) opponent get ticket or select as a candidate. My sister as me who will selected as a presidential candidate?. Hillary Clinton Or Barack Obama?, she ask me first name Hillary Clinton so I select Asc for Hillary Clinton and 7th for Barack Obama. When I calculate this horary both are very near as per RCP Poll average Barack Obama 42% and Hillary Clinton 45% ,( http://news. yahoo.com/ election/ 2008/dashboard). In April issue of ASTROVISION Issue I had written an article on the same above rules for getting ticket in an election, and now same rules give very clear cut result. Horary Details: Quarry: who will select as a presidential candidate Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama? Horary No: 123 Date: 10/2/2008 Time: 05.32.51 PM Place: L.G.Hospital- Ahmedabad 23 N 00 , 72 E 36 Rule:1 One can selected as a candidate or get ticket for election if Asc (Tendency of people of Country) sublord should be signifies 6(victory), 11 (Gain). For opponent candidate Asc (Tendency of people of Country) sublord should be signifies 12(victory of Opponent), 5 (Gain of opponent) Asc sublord is Jup. Jup is in the star of Ven and sub of Mar. Jup is in 3, lord of 4,7. Ven is in 4 lord of 2,9. Mar is in 9 lord of 3,8. In this case we do not foind out 6,11 or 5,12. So we check Vedic( Rasi to Rasi) aspect of above planet. Jup aspect on 8,10,12.Ven aspect on 10 and Mar aspect on 1,4,5 . Asc sublord signifies 5,and 12 and not signifies 6,11 anyhow. So clearly indicate victory of Barack Obama. But befor we come to any opinion we have to check second rule:

Rule:2 One can selected as a candidate or get ticket for election if 3rd (View of People) sublord should be signifies 1(Self), 6(victory), 11 (Gain). But If 9th (opposite View of People) sublord signifies 7(Opponent) 12(victory of Opponent), 5 (Gain of opponent) opponent get ticket or select as a candidate. 3rd and 9th sublord is Rahu. Rahu is in the star of Mar and sub of Ven. Rahu is in 5, no planet in the star of Rahu and Rahu is sublord of 3,9. Rahu is in Sat sign, Sat is in 11 lord of 5,6. Mar is in 9 lord of 3,8. Ven is in 4 lord of 2,9. This rule indicate 6,11 for Hillary and 5 for Obama, but Rule:1 clearly indicate us for Obama so In my opinion after tuff fight, Barack Obama Will be selected as a precedential election candidate.( No retro effect considered in my analysis) Actual Outcome: Message from David Plouffe: The Nomination Barack Obama has clinched the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. The total number of delegates needed to secure the nomination is 2,118. Right now, Barack has the support of at least 2,179 delegates, which gives him a lock on the nomination. Thank you for all you have done. Your support has brought us to this moment. Rah in Cp is in the star of Moo+ (3,10,10+) and sub of Ke+ (8,11,9,12,2). Finding 9. It is found that changes of Bhukti from Sun to Moon for Barack Obama and Dasa from Saturn to Mercury for John Mc Cain will be crucial, and John Mc Cain has a better chance to win in the battle grounds of election with better signification of 6,10 and 11 houses by DBAS lords and transit especially in the sub level. The importance of dasa can be seen from George W Bush’s chart for no recovery after entering his nasty Dasa Mercury, which is in 1 and lord of 12 and in the own star and sub of Mercury, since Apr 29, 2006.

Love & Marriage—KP Analysis A client came to me on 18-5-2008 and told me that he was in love with his colleague and wanted to marry her as his second wife. I asked him to give a number within 249. He immediately gave me 116/249 I told him to meet me after four or five days as I have no time to attend for his work now immediately. The horary chart casted for it is appended at the end of this article. D.O.J=205-2008, T.O.J= 12-30AM, P.O.J=Kurnool(A.P) Moon should indicate the query. So let us see what Moon says. Moon is the occupant of 2nd and the owner of 11th and it is in the constellation of Jupiter who owns 4 and 11. Thus the Moon indicates 2 ,7 and 11 So the query is true. Next step is to see whether the querrent’s love affair is promised or not. RULE:- If the sub-lord of the 5th cusp is deposited in the constellation of a planet who is the significator of the houses 7 and 11, then materialization of the love affair is promised. But if the sub-lord of the 5th cusp happens to be in a constellation , the lord of which is the significator of the houses 6 or 12, then it will never materialise. If it is in the constellation of the significator of 6, the other party falls out. But if the sub-lord of the 5th is in the constellation of the planet signifying the 12th house then the consultant himself will drop the idea.(Horary Astrology VI Reader Page No.191) The sub-lord of the 5th cusp Jupiter is in the constellation of sun who is the owner of 12 and the occupant of 8th. He also owns 4th also. Thus Jupiter signifies 12, 8 and 4. It is understood that his love affair will be dropped by himself only. Next let us see whether the second marriage will take place or not.( Reader Page No.165)

See Horary Astrology VI

Second marriage is indicated if the following two conditions are simultaneously satisfied:- (1) The Sub-lord of the 7th cusp is deposited ia a dual sign or in the constellation of a planet in or owning a dual sign or if the sub-lord of the 7th cusp is Mercury, and (2) the sub-lord of the 7th cusp is also a significator of either of the houses 2 or 11. If any one of the above two conditions is not satisfied, then second marriage is denied. In this chart (1) the sub-lord of the 7th cusp Jupiter is deposited in a dual sign (i.e) in Dhanush Rasi. as he is the owner of dual sign. (2) The sub-lord of the 7th cusp is not at all signifying either of the houses 2 or 11. The first condition is satisfied and the second condition is not satisfied. So I declared that his love affair ;will never be materialized and he cannot marry her as his second wife. On 14th of this month, he came to me and told that she was having some contact with another one who is her classmate and also a distant relative for her. So, he confirmed to drop the idea of love and marriage her as his second wife. Credit for this correct prediction will go only to Prof.Late.Sri.K.S.Krishna Murthy, the inventor of this great, accurate and scientific method in this Astrological World. LO SHU - FENG SHUI Word FENG…also called as FOONG. This means WIND, Word SHUI…also called SHOOWAY, means Water. The Lo Shu square consists of numbers one to nine in a set in a square. The Lo Shu grid is a 3x3 magic square in which the sum of the three numbers add up to fifteen row wise. This grid shows man’s interaction with the five elements such as Earth, Water, Fire, Wood and Metal. In Lo Shu all the elements are needed for a prosperous life are analyzed on the basis of the date of birth. Each ELEMENT is having a particular number and element. Water Element Earth Element Wood Element Metal Element – Fire Element –

By entering the date of birth below, the missing element and its effect on the concerned person is ascertained. Each digit in a person’s birth date is associated with the corresponding element and the missing factor is known. This grid also tells us the areas, which come under the influence of each sector with reference to our particular buildings. Thus this square gives us the exact area in the building which is under the influence of each direction. So this is also called as “The Magic Square”.

Raghunatha Rao Nemani (Jyotish Chaitanya and Jyotish Acharya) Minnesota, USA E-mail : [email protected] http://www.PrashnaAstrology.Com

Longevity Analysis of Current Pakistan's Ruling Government I know, we have the Oath taking time of the current Pakistan’s Prime Minister. I do not know how accurate those oath taking details are and also there are various definitions of oath taking muhurtams, so, I have decided to cast a Prashna Chart and analyzed the longevity of this government. I have casted a Time Chart (Prashna Chart) with a question in mind as “Will this Government Completes its full term?” In other words from an astrological analysis point of view, what is the Longevity of this Government is the question. The Time Chart details are as follows and same were considered for this analysis. I have used KP method with equal house system for this analysis. Date: May 9, 2008 Time: 22:30:22 Time Zone: 5:00:00 (West of GMT) Place: 93 W 20' 59", 44 N 53' 23" Edina, Minnesota, USA 1) Lagna is Scorpio. Lagna sub lord is Sat (politician) deposited in 9th house. Here I meant Sat as Politician, because he never reveal the truth and hide many of the matters. 2) Lagna Sub is Sat and placed in 9th house of Government. 9th lord is placed in 12th house too. So the Question is correct about Government and its longevity. 3) Lagna Sub Lord’s Star lord tells about the result and here Ketu is the star lord of Sat. Ketu is placed in 9th house itself and also significator of 6th, 8th , 9th and 11th houses. 4) 6th and 8th house is not supportive houses for a ruling of a full term for any Government. Here Ketu signifies both 9th, 11th and 6th, 8th houses, so there is a 50% chance of completing the full term. 5) Lagna Sub Lord’s Sub lord is Jup. Jup is the significator of 1st , 2nd ,5th ,6th and 10th houses. Houses 1st and 10th are good houses for status but here Jup (retro) also signifies the 6th house too. Also here the Jup’s 2nd and 5th houses signification indicates that the Government will have to struggle to complete the full term. 6) In summary, the above combinations indicate that the Government under this ruler ship will not complete the full term. 7) Now, let us find out the longevity of this Government. The houses for a stable Government are: 1st (Ruler), 7th (Public), and 9th (Govt). The 12th houses from these houses are problem houses and they are 6th, 8th and 12th. So they will bring the government and their administration to an end along with the badhaka.

MAY 2008

8) So the significator of 6th , 8th and 12th houses are: • 6th = Ven, Sun, Merc, Ketu and Jup • 8th = Mar, Merc and Rahu • 12th = Moon. So final list of planets are: Ven, Sun, Jup, Mars, Mer, Ketu, Rah and Moon. 9) Now, let us see the transits to time the event. Lagna Sub is Sat and placed in Fixed sign, so Jup Transits will give the event timing. 10) Jup is now in Sagittarius: Sign-Star-Sub of Jup-Sun-Moon. So when Jup transits into SatMar-Sat the event will happen, which is basically by end of April 2009 the Government will loose their ruling power.

Observations on dusthanas: Part-04 : Ashtakavarga The Support of Ashtakavarga: This section of the article highlights the role of ashtakavarga as an important predictive tool giving the general awareness on the usage of some of the important norms of ashtakavarga for assessing the strength of the dusthanas in particular. Ashtakavarga provides dependable method to assess the strength of signs and planets. Sage Parashara has advocated this system fundamentally to provide a mathematical platform to assess the strength of a sign or a planet by the numerical figures, which is easy to follow. The application of ashtakavarga may be utilised for the assessment of all the houses and thus it gives a concluding view to the decision when in doubt, as it is said that “ Rely on ashtakavarga when in doubt.” In the present context of discussions on The Dusthanas, it may be said that the ashtakavarga provides decisive factors about the strength of The Dusthanas in a chart, where there has been prevailing a good amount of confusion because of the controversial statements made by the celebrated ancient writers on the modalities of its relevance and its application area. Largely, the ancient writers have indicated that the Sarvashtaka bindu strength should not be high for Dusthanas while the higher strength has been advocated for lagna, kendra, trikona etc. It is perhaps referred in the context of their own life style, which was very pious and spiritual where the Dusthanas were obstructive to have a dominant role to play. From this assertion, the fact emerges that the higher bindus conferred on dusthanas or on the signs occupied by dusthana Lords make them stronger and thereby enhance the positive qualities of the dusthanas. In light of the depleting ideals and lost virtues in Kaliyuga, the strength of Kendras and Trikonas in a chart is gradually losing relevance and the strength of dusthanas is gaining importance, as strong dusthanas may indicate the extent of success or failure of a native in the prevailing corrupt and the competitive environment. These attributes could have been useless in ancient times but they do carry much relevance for the present day scenario of the materialistic world and thus may not be ignored. Ashtakavarga thus gives a handy support to the conventional predictive tools as it provides simpler assessment of the strength of signs and planets. It also gives accurate picture of the strength of the shadowy planets (Rahu and Ketu) in a chart, the strength assessment of which is occasionally difficult and tricky. In the ashtakavarga way of assessment, the Sarvashtaka (SAV) sign strength is of first importance to start with where 28 bindus may be considered as the bare minimum for the rising beneficence. A planet posited in a sign having more than 30 bindus would be rated good in strength whereas if associated with more than 40 bindus may make it exceptionally strong. The finer shade of the planetary strength may be examined by the bhinnashtaka (BAV) chart of the planet in question and by the number of points enjoyed by the planet at its natal sign may be examined. In addition, the relation of a planet with the other planet may be very easily judged by the count of benefic bindus conferred by one planet at its natal sign in the BAV chart of the other planet and vice versa. If such a benefic point count cross a count of 3, it is said to cross the threshold towards its beneficience. The order of beneficience shall be at

PAGE # 32 / 67

ASTROVISION

ISSUE # 5

MAY 2008

its best on the count of bindus of 8. The bindus less than 3 indicate poor strength and thereby malefic results. On still finer analysis, the Prasthara ashtakavarga (PAV) chart may be referred to detail out the planets, which contribute the bindus to the BAV chart. The details of the planets involved in providing the bindus at a certain location to a planet dictate the end results according to their natural and functional lordship. The kakshya strength of planets is yet another dimension of the ashtakavarga system which need mention. This offers an immensely important decision to delineate the dasha results. It involves finding the kakshya in which a planet is located natally and thereafter to look into the PAV of the planet whether the kakshya lord has contributed a benefic bindu or not at the natal sign position of the planet. In case, of the kakshya lord contributes a benefic bindu to the planet at its natal position, the dasha/antardasha of the planet and its kakshya lord shall be largely harmonious irrespective of the houses they own and vice-versa. The point, which may be derived from the above discussion, is if the dusthana lords enjoy good strength in SAV and BAV charts at their natal position, they are said to be strong in a chart and vice versa. In the light of the similar approach, any 2 planets in a chart, if enjoy high SAV bindu strength, enjoy high BAV bindu strength at their natal position as well as at the natal position of each other, shall be said to be in mutual harmony and it would not matter much even if those 2 planets are placed in mutual Dusthanas. In such situation, the positive results may be expected even if they are seen in the mutually bad placement in their mutual dasha/antardasha. Further, if the Kakshya lord of a planet is in harmony with the planet by the contribution of a benefic bindu at its natal position, it may be almost a certainty to have an harmonious dasha/antardasha of the said planet and its kakshya lord irrespective of any other factor and thereby promoting the positive features of the houses owned by the planets during the relevant dasha periods. The same considerations may be extended for the planets in transit and snapshot behavior of the transit results may be assessed irrespective of many superfluous considerations. The discussion on ashtakavarga is not further continued, but a mention is necessary here to emphasize that the assessment of a chart is incomplete without the consideration of the ashtakavarga strength pertaining to the signs and planets. Further, it is almost an absolute necessity to assess the ashtakavarga strength of the dusthanas for understanding their true shade of influence on the native.

PROBLEMS IN PREDICTIONS The following article was published in "The Times of Astrology" magazine Jan '99, New Delhi, India. The intention of this article is not that the senior astrologers would not know the problems in giving accurate predictions, but to once again recapitulate the same while introducing the intricacies to the beginners in this subject. AYANAMSHA In the Hindu (Vedic) astrology, the Nirayana system is used to calculate the Lagna (Ascendant) and longitudes of planets, by deducting the Ayanamsha from Sayana system positions. The popular ayanamshas used are of Lahiri, Raman and Krishnamurthy (K. P.). The differences in ayanamshas vary from about 6 minutes to 1 degree 30 minutes in these systems. As a typical case, in year 1938 the ayanamshas are about Lahiri 23-00, Raman 2133 and K. P 22-54. When the Lagna and the planets are at the edge of a Rashi (sign), these three ayanamshas may give different lagnas and planetary positions in the rashis. If not in the Rashi chart, they will definitely affect the other Varga (divisional) charts, particularly the Shatshiamsha (1/60 part = 30 minutes) chart. If one can go into the Nadi amsha ( 1/150 part=12 minutes), the situation will be definitely the worst. In this connection, our respected late Sri R. Santhanam states in is book Deva Keralam: To wit, if a planet, say Saturn is in Aries 19-59 as per Lahiri Ayanamsha, another Ayanamsha even with a small difference of minus 2' of arc can place Saturn somewhat ahead and give it Libra navamsha instead of Virgo navamsha due to Lahiri. Saturn even in Aries Rashi with Libra navamsha protects one from heart ailments, gives him longevity and helps him progress in his calling. The same Saturn with Aries sign position but in Virgo navamsha makes him wholly unreliable and makes him a victim of some sort of diseases of hands and legs. This difference could be easily located by an experienced astrologer. Same is the case with other divisions including navamsha. Also, in this connection, it may also be worthwhile to quote from the June 1991 Grahavani journal (of Hyderabad, AP., India): According to almost all ephemeris, Saturn had gone into retrogression and entered Dhanus (Sagittarius) and again reentered Makara (Capricorn) on 15 December 1990. But according to Vakya Panchanga (ephemeris) followed by Nadi astrologers in South India, Saturn entered Makara on 10 February 1991, that is, a difference of 55 days. Then what is the fate of the children born between 15 Dec 1990 to 10 Feb 1991, whether Saturn is to be placed in Dhanus or Makara. According to Vakya Panchanga, such a situation is common for Saturn whenever it retrogrades or entering the signs, there will be a difference of nearly 90 days, and for Jupiter 15 days and for fast moving planets Budha (Mercury), Sukra (Venus) for 1 to 3 days will be there. How to reconcile this position is for scholars in the science to decide. All Nadi literature was based on Vakya Panchanga and the predictions arrived on such calculations are 80% coming true. In view of the different Graha Gathis (planetary movements) even the horoscope charts prepared through computers are of no use.

MAY 2008

DASA SYSTEMS Let us see the planetary Dasa systems (progressions) used by Hindu astrologers. The most popular and generally used system by many astrologers is the Vimshottari Dasa system of 120 years with Maha Dasa (main planet period), Antar-dasa (sub period), Pratyantar Dasa (sub sub period) and other minor periods called Vidasa and Sukshma/Prana Dasa. By adopting different ayanamshas, the balance of Maha Dasa at birth in Vimshottari system is likely to be different to a period of about 2 years when major periods of planets operate and all the subsequent periods will accordingly vary. Then obviously it would be very difficult to correlate particular life event during a particular Dasa period even considered upto the minutest level. Mostly, in addition, some planet or other in one of the major/minor periods is somehow gets connected to the particular event to be checked and the astrologer will satisfy himself for his prediction for the event in that Dasa and he will not bother to check that the same event can be predicted in some other Dasa also. In this connection let me quote from the famous astrologer Dr. B. V. Raman from his editorial in December 1977 in the Astrological magazine: From what I have said hitherto, you will notice that Nadi astrology gives an important place to the basic pattern of the horoscope revealed by Dwadasamsha (1/12 division) for a general outline and Nadi amsha (1/150 part) for a comprehensive survey. The details such as attainment of rank, position and status, success, occupation etc. are filled in by the planets and the various Yogas or typical combinations formed by them. In actual practice, these principles can be easily demonstrated by applying them to well known horoscopes. But that will only be a post-mortem study. After an event has happened, we can justify it in some way or the other, but it is in the prior application of these principles and prediction of events to happen in future that the real value of astrology lies. In addition to Vimshottari Dasa system, as given by Daivagna Ratna Sri T. Ramakrishna in Grahavani journal of November 1988: There are many other Nakshatra Dasa systems such as Shodashothar (116. years), Dwadasottari (112), Ashtottari (108), Panchottari (105), Satamana (100), Chaturasiti (84), Dwisapthati(72), Sashtidpani (60), Shatirimsati. (36) and other Dasa systems of Kalachakra Dasa, Chara Dasa, Sthira Dasa, Yogini Dasa (slightly varying from Shatirimsati Dasa stated earlier), Tanvadi Dasa, Panchaswara Dasa, Varnadi Dasa, Yogindra Dasa, Ashtakavarga Dasa (Pinda Amsha, Nisargika), Sandhya Dasa, Sandhya panchaka Dasa, Tara Dasa and Sudarshana chakra. It is not known clearly when to use which Dasa. In this connection, let me quote from the book Hindu Astrology by Shri Shil Ponde: The normal span of life for all persons born in the Shukla Paksha, or between New Moon and Full Moon, should be 120 years. That of persons born in Krishna Paksha, between full Moon and new Moon, should be 108 years. It was not at all extraordinary for men and women in ancient civilization to live longer than this normal span, but the nervous tension and toxic poisons which are the concomitants of modern civilization have cut down the normal span of life considerably. Vimshottari Dasa system (120 Years) is to be used for all persons born between new Moon and full Moon and the Ashtottari Dasa system (108 years) is to be used for persons born between the full Moon and the new Moon, that is, during the waning period of the Moon. In addition, Shri Shil Ponde also states that a slightly different Ayanamsha is to be used for the position of the Moon, only when dealing with planetary periods and for determining the true position of the Moon in the fixed zodiac and it is to be used instead of the regular Ayanamsha correction, not in addition to it. As a hypothetical case, he states that " instead of making the Krishna Paksha, between full Moon and new Moon, should be 108 years. It was not at all extraordinary for men and women in ancient civilization to live longer than this normal span, but the nervous tension and to ice poisons which are the concomitants of modern civilization have cut down the normal span of life considerably. Vimshottari Dasa system (120 Years) is to be used for all persons born between new Moon and full Moon and the Ashtottari Dasa system (108 years) is to be used for others. He gives 19-38 for year 1933 whereas Lahiri's gives 22-55, a difference of about 3 degrees. I may also state here that Sage

Satyacharya, father of Nadi Astrology, states that the Dasa system should be taken from the Moon or Lang whichever is stronger. VARGA (DIVISIONAL) CHARTS Let us see the Varga (divisional) charts. As per late Sri R. Santhanam, the Shatshiamsha chart is to be prepared at the rate of 1/2 degree per Rashi starting from the rash where Lagna or planet is situated in rashi chart. Whereas, in his book Jyotisha Siddhamthamu (out of print) in South Indian Telugu language, my Guru "Daivagna Ratna and Vidya Visarada late Sri Divakaruni Venkata Subba Rao (author of many valuable books in Telugu language) states that if Lagna or planet is in odd rashi in rashi chart, then count its position at the rate of 30 minutes per rashi from Mesha (Aries) clockwise and if in even rashi count from Mean (Pisces) anticlockwise. I personally feel that counting should be clockwise from the rashi where Lagna or planet is located if it is in odd rashi and anti clockwise from that rashi if it is in even rashi, since originally the names of Shatshiamshas are given clockwise for odd rashis and the same names repeat anti clockwise for even rashis. These versions will definitely give different Shatshiamsha charts. I am not sure whether Shatshiamsha charts can be prepared at all or just see them as good or bad as mentioned against each name of Shatshiamsha. Late Sri R. Santhanam states in his book Deva Keralam that " the aspect as a rule should be seen in rashi chart only, not in navamsha and other charts, for aspects emanate only by longitudinal distances". In his book Jyotisha Siddhamthamu late Sri D. V. Subbarao states that " the lordships of bhavas and their position in Varga charts is not to be considered in Varga charts, the bhava lords and their position is to be judicially taken only from Bhava chart, in Varga charts the position of the Lagna lord of that Varga is important. " Whereas, in her article in June 1986 the Astrological magazine, Smt Gayatri Devi Vasudev states " the point is not to decry Parasari system has having limitations but to stress that reckoning aspects in navamsha too, and subjecting navamsha to an analysis similar to rashi seem to make matters clearer". She also quotes Dr. B. V. Raman regarding navamsha " it is the pivot on which the horoscope revolves, every combination mentioned should be applied to the rashi, bhava and navamsha charts and then a conclusion drawn". I may mention here that nowhere it is published specifically how to use these various Varga charts and what would be the results for various permutations and combinations for different charts. For example, what would be the type of life pattern for Aries Lagna in rashi chart with the different nine lagnas in navamsha chart from Aries to Sagittarius, for Taurus Lagna in rashi chart with different nine navamsha lagnas from Capricorn to Virgo etc. and extending the same logic for various other permutations and combinations to the level of different Shatshiamshas each of 30' duration or still the minutest Nadi amsha division of 12' arc duration. Of course, there is some literature available giving what each 2 1/2 degree in each bhava (Dwadasamsha) represents and what would be the Karmic pattern of each Shatshiamsha, independently without linking to the rashi chart and other Varga charts and planetary positions. Some of the astrologers may be having ancient literature giving life patterns dealing with planetary positions along with permutations and combinations of various Varga charts upto the level of Nadi amshas, but they will not be publishing their secret treasure for the benefit of others and for the research in the subject. SPECIAL LAGNAS/ASPECTS There are also many special lagnas such as Ghatika Lagna, Vighatika Lagna, Bhava Lagna, Arudha Lagna, Atmakaraka Lagna, Upapada Lagna etc., aspects of planets from one rashi to another rashi (Jaimini system), and as per some Nadi rulings a retrograde planet aspects the previous house and planets aspect the trines from them etc. NADI LITERATURE In his 3 volumes of book Nadi Jyotisha-A stellar system of astrology published in 1954 (out of print), late Sri R. Gopalakrishna Rao (Meena) had given importance only to the constellation lords of the planets as Jeeva and Shareera planets and their Satwik (pure), Rajasik (restless) and Tamasik (dull/aggressive) gunas (qualities). Shri Ratanlal in his book Nadi system of prediction (stellar theory) published in 1983 and late Sri N. V. Raghavachary (Meena II) in his book Practical Stellar astrology (based on Nadi principles) published in 1995 Almost followed the original books by Sri R. Goplakrishna Rao. Even the Krishnamurthy Paddhathi is also an tension of what is stated by Sri R. Gopalakrishna Rao. Sri R. G. Rao of Bangalore. India in his

book Bhrugu Nandi Nadi had given interpretation of Nadi principles on the basis of Karakatwas (signification) of planets only and Jupiter transits only ï 7 3 irrespective of Lagna. Late Sri R. Santhanam in his volumes of Deva Keralam (Chandra Kala Nadi) gave many useful rules of Nadi astrology. The Astrological magazine of Bangalore, India has been publishing general life patterns for each Nadi amsha as per Dhruva Nadi and Nandi Nadi. All these available Nadi literature is still scanty only without giving any real clues. BIRTH TIME RECTIFICATION There are also many systems mentioned for birth time rectification. The minutest in these systems is as per Tatwa Siddhantha to match the male/female birth for moveable/fixed/dual Lagna, day and Moon Nakshatra (constellation), as given in the books Jyotisha Siddhamtamu (out of print) by late Sri D. V. Subbarao in Telugu language in 1970, The Nadi system of rectification by Mr. Marc Penfield in 1976, Rectification of birth time (an analytical approach) by Prof. P. S. Sastri in 1996 and in the article Rectification of birth time-Bhrugu Nadi by Sri M. V. Rao in March 1973 in the esteemed journal The Times of Astrology. In these also there are no similarities, but the Antar-tatwa Siddhantha adopted by late Sri D. V. Subbarao goes to the e tent of difference in birth time upto 12 seconds in time for male/female birth similar to the minutest Nadi amsha patterns. In this connection, I may mention that during my lectures in USA recently during April to July 1998 in American Federation of Astrologers and Arsha Vidya Gurukulam on their invitation, I happen to read in the World Almanac that for every 3 seconds 9 births and 6 deaths take place (it is for the scholars to visualize where from the other 3 births come from after 6 deaths), which amounts to 3 births for every second. In such a case, even the Nadi amsha of 12 seconds duration for each birth, which might have been visualized in ancient times when birth rate is very slow, does not hold good in these modern times. LONGEVITY There are also many systems such as Pindayu, Amshayu, Jeevasarmayu, Ashtakavargayu etc. forcalculating the longevity, which may give different longevities. TRANSITS There are also many views on the transit system of planets from natal Moon, Lagna, planets in rashis, in Nakshatra, in navamsha, over natal planets, vedha etc. There are Varsha Phala(progressed chart) to erect the chart of progression based on Sun position every year same as at natal chart, Dinavarsha Paddhati of one degree is one year with subtle aspects just as western system applied on Sayana chart, Tajaka system etc. OTHERS There are also Ashtakavarga method, Rajayogas, planetary shadbalas (6 fold strength), bhava balas, Vimsopoka planetary strengths, Upagrahas (Gulika, Mandi etc.), eclipses etc. There are also many rules given by many sages and astrologers for an event to happen, which it is humanly impossible to remember all these rules and apply. Even the present Nadi astrologers who read from their ancient palm leaves mostly give predictions age wise only by whatever method they follow and those future predictions also seem to be not correctly coming true in most cases, though the past events seem to be mostly true. CONCLUSION I might have missed some more points but in view of the above quoted points I wonder whether any astrologer can really predict any specific event on a particular time purely from astrological point of view, without any other intuition techniques or through any other secret literature such as Nadi Grantha available with him. I would like to quote here Dr. B. V. Raman in his letter to me on 4 December 1993 that Astrology is a subject where not only an insight into its techniques is needed but also certain amount of intuition. Experience can gradually make appreciate the nuances of the predictive art. The literature available on Nadi astrology in the market could only be of academic interest. They do not give one an insight into the technique of the system. The late Mr.

Gopalakrishna Rao (Meena) has given the Nadi method as revealed by his Guru in his book Nadi Jyotisha. But unfortunately the book has been out of print for a long time. The whole problem in astrological prediction is mainly due to lack of sufficient literature in astrology with correct understanding of the principles. In ancient times Gurukulam system of teaching was prevalent and much facilities were not available to record or write down the details of the principles taught with their specific interpretations and as such the rules in the brief Sanskrit slokas of ancient times can possibly be mistranslated and misunderstood nowadays. The astrologers nowadays mostly do not collect, maintain data of the complete life pattern events of the charts of their clients and others, do research and discuss openly with others. Some of them publish some specific past events only by justifying by some method or other, which mostly will not coincide when applied to some other similar chart. It may be appreciated how difficult it is to interpret the twins charts or those born very closely, wherein also the events and timings vary considerably. Most of the astrologers are lucky that they do not face similar charts for interpretation at the same time. As a former scientist, engineer and manager, I do realize that even in the fields of the present most modern sciences and technologies such as medicine, space travel etc., inspite of much research, availability of literature and many methods of approach, there are still failures beyond the scope of human being, but still the progress is fantastic since many nations take interest in those specific areas. Whereas the subject of Astrology is mostly a neglected area for whatever reasons may be and no Governmental agency is interested in pursuing the research in this subject. No astrologer is also interested in the research in astrology and none of the astrological associations / federations / groups / conferences / trusts / magazines do strive for research to evolve new specific rules, rather new Nadi Grantha, suitable to modern times and different countries. The strange thing is that many consult an astrologer when they are in trouble and do not come forward to help to do research in this subject. Such being the case, this subject of astrology is sure to have its natural death in due course, though surviving in its superficial way of knowledge.

The Age of Aquarius Series -- Rectifying the Aquarian Age Part 2

In the previous issue, I reviewed the last two sub-ages in the Pisces age. These two sub-ages were the Aries and Pisces sub-ages. In the Aries sub-age classical examples of military might were demonstrated with Genghis Khan and the One Hundred Years War with the prime cultural development the Renaissance. The first half of the Pisces sub-age indicated that oceanic exploration, slavery and religious strife were the order of the day. The wave-like motion of the astrological ages and their sub-periods dictate that the Pisces sub-age (c.1253 – 1433) was the last sub-age in the Pisces age, but its overflow period (c.1433 – 1612) carried forward strongly into the beginning of the Aquarian age. The whole Pisces sub-age influence therefore exists from 1253 to 1612 – straddling the cusp of the Pisces and Aquarian age. We pick up the story with the second half of the Pisces sub-age influence. Pisces Sub-Age Overflow – Europe, Warts and All (c.1433 - 1612) The Pisces sub-age overflow coincided with the start of the new Aquarian Age in c.1433, but it remained Pisces’ time due to the fact that post 1433 was also the Pisces age overflow (c.1433 – 3574) and Pisces age-decan overflow (c.1433 – 2148). It is understandable that Aquarius’ appearance on the world stage c.1433 was easily overlooked – especially taking into account that Pisces does not promote clarity! Pisces’ focus upon maritime exploration, spiritual matters and calamity that appeared in the Pisces sub-age (c.1253-1433) continued at an ever increasing pace in its overflow period. In the Pisces sub-age overflow Columbus discovered the Americas (1492), appropriately called the New World in acknowledgement of the new Aquarian age, marking one of the key developments at the start of the new age. Extremely significant developments occur around the cusp of ages and can there have been any more significant development in world history over the last 2150 years then the discovery and colonisation of the Americas? The discovery of the New World was the beginning of the conquest and domination of the world by Pisces ruled European (western) culture that is still occurring today. The maritime explorations continued past the Americas and by 1498 Vasco da Gama had reached India and the world was first circumnavigated by an expedition led by Magellan in 1522. On the religious front the greatest and longest lasting split to affect Europe was based on Piscean religious grounds. It commenced in the Piscean sub-age overflow with the influence of Martin Luther of Germany in the early 1500's, and Britain's Henry VIII's desire for divorce in the mid 1500's. By 1546, upon Luther's death, PAGE # 39 / 67

ASTROVISION ISSUE # 5 MAY 2008 Lutherism and Protestantism controlled most of northern Europe including Germany, Sweden, Norway Denmark, Finland, Prussia, the Baltic States and England. To this was added Scotland in 1567. The intrinsic duality in Pisces-ruled Europe meant that at its embryonic lurch to stardom, it was divided into two: Catholic versus Protestants. This resulted in the Wars of Religion, including the Spanish Armada that disguised different grievances but were ignited by religious passion. Research indicates that whenever Pisces is strong it not only places a focus upon Europe but it also divides Europe (the last significant Pisces period occurred in the first half of the 20th century). Two of the most notable writers coming under the spell of Pisces would have to be Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (1547 – 1616) and William Shakespeare (1564 – 1616). Cervantes wrote Don Quixote between 1602 and 1615. The deep sense of feeling, almost spirituality that permeated works of literature and art from this time continues to impress to this day. Shakespeare and Cervantes were not alone at the cultural helm. No less equal are Michelangelo (1475 – 1564) and Leonardo Da Vinci. Leonardo Da Vinci (1452 – 1519), painter, sculptor, engineer, architect and scientist is best known for his paintings, Mona Lisa (1503-7) and The Last Supper completed in 1498 and reflected the Piscean spiritual or aesthetic quality of the time. Concentration on spiritual or mystical matters associated with Pisces meant a greater than normal evidence of unreal and mystical events. An inordinate number of mystics made their appearance with Pisces, mainly in its overflow. Theresa of Avila, a Spanish nun, wrote poetry and notes on mystical theology, as did Kabir, a 15th Century Indian mystic, author of The Weaver of God's Name. Another Indian mystic, Guru Nanak founded the Sikh religion following 3 days of ‘mystical ecstasy’ in 1499. It should be noted that the Sikhs share with the Christian Protestants that formed at the same time similar elements in their doctrine and outlooks and therefore it should come as no surprise that Sikhs readily adapt to modern western technology. The three signs involved with Protestants and Sikhs are Pisces (religion), Aquarius (modernity) and Capricorn (hard work and frugality). The most famous mystic of the time in the west was Nostradamus (1503 – 1566), a prophetic astrologer who published his Centuries in 1555, clearly in the Piscean subage overflow. His technique appears to be related more to clairvoyance (Pisces), with planets posited in astrological signs a technique of timing, rather than a technique of astrology. Nostradamus' Centuries, conforming to Piscean values, is vague and confusing. However some of Nostradamus' predictions appear incredibly lucid and clear after the event and indicate that, astrologer or not, he had skill in his craft. From around 1450 and for the next 200 years history books state many thousands of people, mainly women, were executed for witchcraft throughout Europe – but the numbers may be greatly underestimated. The North American colonies also made witchcraft punishable by death in 1642. So great was the obsession with witchcraft that in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692 nearly all women were branded witches. The church-sanctioned Spanish Inquisition formalised the witch hunts in its gory attempts at religious subjugation and persecution. Prince Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) of Transylvania achieved notoriety in this period strengthening the relationship between Pisces and gothic terror. Pisces also takes rulership over large organisations, bureaucracies, and slavery which flourished in the Piscean overflow. These large organisations typically where the new state or private monopolies, also linked to Pisces. Such organisations and monopolies included, the King of Portugal's spice monopoly 1506; British East India Company 1600; and the Dutch East India Company 1602. PAGE # 40 / 67

ASTROVISION ISSUE # 5 MAY 2008 The beginning of the Piscean sub-age overflow saw the start of the African slave trade to the Americas in 1542. By 1620, the slave trade was extended to English colonies, and the French jumped on the bandwagon in 1636. Pisces rules slavery and drugs. The drug tobacco was introduced to Europe in 1496 and was the first commercial crop from the North American colonies, later the USA. While on the subject of drugs many scholars believe most European peasantry went on a period of hallucinatory trips known as St Vitus’ dance in the early 1500’s due to relying on mind altering plants with LSD-like effects during a wheat shortage. Is this the High Middle Ages? It should come as no surprise that the next most potent century for Pisces is the 20th century where drugs have again became a contentious issue. The same themes that developed in the Pisces sub-age at the end of the Pisces age carried over into the Pisces sub-age overflow but with greater impact. The ‘conquest’ of the oceans, and particularly the Pacific Ocean, continued in earnest (the Pacific Ocean should probably be ruled by Pisces but this requires more research). The Wars of Religion between the new Protestants and entrenched Roman Catholics eclipsed the earlier religious schism between competing Popes. The witch hunts and Spanish Inquisition killed many in its mindless mob-like frenzy and left its mark in history. The start of the slave trade and introduction of tobacco indicates Pisces’ proximity. Despite everything, the artistic and literary achievements of the Pisces sub-age overflow continue to have a profound effect upon the world today due to their high aesthetic quality (Shakespeare, Michelangelo etc). The Pisces sub-age overflow is the last stand of medievalism as it was during this time that science and rational thinking commenced making their appearance with Leonardo Da Vinci a classic example of the entry of the new Age of Aquarius and Capricorn sub-age, coinciding with the Pisces sub-age Overflow. Capricorn Sub-Age & the Appearance of Rationality (c.1433 – 1791) At the same time that the Pisces sub-age influence is in its overflow mode the Capricorn sub-age was finding its feet. The innovation of Aquarius combined with the logic and pragmatism of Capricorn created a recipe for unprecedented scientific advance. The first evidence of this is Leonardo Da Vinci (1452 – 1519). Born within a few years of the start of the Capricorn sub-age and the Age of Aquarius (c.1433) and preceding the Scientific Revolution by a century, Leonardo was designing gliders, parachutes, armoured tanks, town planning techniques, drainage and irrigation, and submarines to name but a few. The initial almost eccentric scientific advance by Leonardo was quickly followed by Copernicus’ (1473 – 1543) revolutionary proposal of the heliocentric (sun-based) solar system, published in 1543. The first observatory was constructed at the end of the 16th Century. The invention of the microscope in 1590 and the telescope around 1605 was followed by an avalanche of scientific discoveries in mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry. It was the first modern golden age of science. Other leading players and their recorded achievements are Bacon with The Advancement of Learning in 1605; Kepler's On The Motion Of Mars in 1609; and Novum Organum in 1620. Time is another important correlation with Capricorn. Chronometer, the scientific name for a maritime clock, gets its name from the Greek word Cronus. The Greek Cronus, or Romanised Saturn, is the ruler of time and is the traditional ruler of Capricorn. As a result of Magellan’s successful expedition to circumnavigate the world, they discovered that their log was out by a day on their return to port. There was no need for an International Date Line prior to Magellan’s expedition. Such issues affecting time and calendars had to be dealt with in the Capricorn SubAge. The modern year was established in 1582, and as a coincidence, the new PAGE # 41 / 67

ASTROVISION ISSUE # 5 MAY 2008 Gregorian calendar changed the start of the year from March 25th (near the vernal equinox and start of the first sign tropical Aries) to January 1st, in the sign of tropical Capricorn whilst the world is under the heavy influence of the Capricorn sub-age! If we were in the days of yore we would be mythologising that Saturn had woken from his slumber after 20 centuries and stolen the start of the New Year from Aries, the rightful owner, and covetously placed it in his own sign while he held the other gods at bay. Politically, it is to be expected that the Capricorn sub-age would bring capable but conservative government. Revolutions are not appreciated by those in authority. The Reformation was a revolution based on religious inspiration that was pushed into the Capricorn sub-age from the Piscean Sub-Age. The Reformation was quickly incorporated into the state before it got out of control. Protestantism became conservative and under state and/or royal control and thus did not align itself with the grievances of the peasants or lower class. This was entirely acceptable to the ruling classes, and as an extra benefit, the Protestant countries got rid of the Pope. It must be remembered that the Catholic Church was as much a political or state body as a religious body at this stage in history. In this context, the reaction by the Catholic Church to Lutherans and Protestantism was one of war, persecution and obstruction. Capricorn demands respect and authority, and the Catholic Church did everything it could to restore authority and respect within Europe, an area it considered it had hegemony. The Congregation of Cardinals of the Holy Inquisition was established in 1542, to subdue opposition within territories ruled by Catholic authorities. Either way, conservative state forces or conservative Church forces firmly held the day. In the Capricorn sub-age overflow commencing 1612 Capricorn principles continue and flourish. Monumental scientific developments continued with Galileo's Dialogues on the Two Chief Systems of the World in 1632; Descartes' Discourse on Method in 1637; and Newton's Principia Mathematic in 1687. The Royal Society dedicated to scientific enterprise was formed in London in 1662. The French Academy of Science is formed in 1673 and the Greenwich Observatory opened in 1675. By 1752 Benjamin Franklin was experimenting with electricity. Not all academic developments were in Europe, the Chinese published an encyclopaedia of Chinese knowledge with 10,000 chapters in 1728. A major political shift in influence occurred in Europe with the rise of Great Britain, France, Russia, Austria and Prussia with a strong central authority sympathetic to the autocratic political model of the French king, Louis XIV. Capricorn, the sign of conservatism, administration and respect for authority, admires strong leaders. Louis XIV satisfied Capricorn's demands. The success in this period of various states in Europe depended greatly on the strength and skills of their monarchs. The 1700's saw a continuation of traditional and conservative society. The hierarchical nature of social rank and position, fondly caressed by Capricorn, became even more entrenched. Autocratic leadership was not limited to Europe - the Moghul Empire in India forced the peasants to live and die in misery while extravagant architectural construction such as the Taj Mahal depleted the treasury. Those of lower rank (i.e. the common people ruled by Cancer) did not matter much in the time of Capricorn. Like art, classical music was a reaction to Piscean mysticism evidenced in Baroque music. The period of classical music is stated to be 1750 to the early 1800's - well into the Capricorn sub-age Overflow. What was called for was clarity and even a severity of form, both Capricorn traits. The environment for classical musicians was now different compared to the former baroque musicians - instead of patronage by PAGE # 42 / 67

ASTROVISION ISSUE # 5 MAY 2008 the (Piscean) Church, it was now patronage by the (Capricorn) aristocracy and therefore music tended to satisfy their wants. The renowned musicians of the Classical era were Philipp and Emmanual Bach, Haydn, Gluck, Mozart and the early works of Beethoven. Other achievements of the classical period include the virtuoso symphony orchestra, the piano, and the maturation of the string quartet. Many of the achievements of today's western society can be sourced to the Calvinist approach to life developed by John Calvin (1509 – 1564) who was instrumental in the formation of the Protestant work ethic and the harsh, even austere approach to life - the fire and brimstone style that the English and the Scots most responded to, and the Puritans took with them to America, setting the style for the contemporary American conservative ‘moral majority’. Puritan intolerance was cultivated in England by the stern Puritan Lord Protector of England, Oliver Cromwell (1599 – 1658), who had overthrown the monarchy only to instil a joyless and harsh arch-conservative Christian social policy upon the English. Capricorn has always had a fondness towards austerity, respect for authority and conservatism of all forms and shades. The God that Christians created at this time was really an image of severe and judgemental Capricorn in the form of an old man ready to condemn any indiscretion with the severest of punishment. In synchronisation with European conservatism the Ibn Saud family (forebears of the current rulers of Saudi Arabia) adopted by the mid 1700’s the strict and fundamentalist Wahhabism Islamic doctrine to restore the ‘purity’ of the Koran which condemned absolutely any innovative practises. The American fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims share this same astrological heritage of Capricorn, perhaps explaining why their stance to each other is like head-butting goats. The Capricorn sub-age (1433-1612) and overflow (1612-1791) displays its unmistakable stamp at an appropriate place in history. Its effects are seen in government, the arts, religion and especially science. The distinct progression from the Piscean world of Elizabethan England and Shakespeare and the maritime explorers to Newton, Galileo and their scientific contemporaries, and the severe environment of the Puritans is readily seen despite the overlapping and fusion of Piscean and Capricorn energies that transpired in the Capricorn sub-age. Saturn (nee Cronus) must have been cracking his knuckles with glee at his success in ensnaring the new calendar into the Capricorn fold and introducing arch-conservatism and austerity wherever possible. Rulers and the churches looked down their noses at the underlings around them and judged them accordingly for having the temerity to exist. Is this an inkling of what the world has to look forward to when the Capricorn age achieves its greatest potential in its overflow period from about 5697 AD onwards? The Sagittarian Sub-Age (c.1612-1970) – The World in Overdrive The Industrial Revolution starting in the 1770's suits the expansionist quality of Sagittarius. The Industrial Revolution meant that more could be produced with less effort leading to mass production and rapidly rising standards of living. An agricultural revolution also emerged in England in the early 1700's. This revolution in agriculture and industry obviously contributed to a European stimulated population explosion. The 1700's saw a 40% growth in world population, compared to an estimated 18% for the preceding century, a sharp rise, and to be expected with expansionist Sagittarius. The Industrial Revolution utilised the scientific advances precipitated by the previous Capricorn sub-age, and in many ways these revolutions can be viewed as the confluence of Capricorn and Sagittarius. Extending this idea of confluence, the most important technological advance of the Industrial Revolution was seen in 1803 when steam was used to power vehicles. The PAGE # 43 / 67

ASTROVISION ISSUE # 5 MAY 2008 first passenger trains in 1825 heralded the fossil-energy revolution. Coal as a fuel source graphically illustrates both Capricorn and Sagittarius. Coal is unambiguously ruled by Capricorn, and Sagittarius is a Fire sign. The network of iron railway lines and train services that followed provided a backbone (Capricorn) for nations' infrastructures, made long distance travel (Sagittarius) easier plus significantly contributed to the explosion of affluence (Sagittarius) that followed. The Age of Enlightenment is also well placed in the Sub-Age of Sagittarius. The Enlightenment was the birth of modern liberal thinking, with Voltaire (1694 – 1778) followed by Rousseau (1712 – 1778) being the most notable proponents. The European Enlightenment is considered to have precipitated in America the quest for life, liberty and the pursuit of justice. Sagittarius, the sign of the sage and philosophy, is readily seen in the Enlightenment. The centre for enlightened thought was Paris, the thought-factory in an era when French was the language of civilised society, and everyone read the same books. The intelligentsia engaged in constant written political debate and as a result readers became used to debate and analysis of contradicting opinions. Such a scenario had not been seen since the Reformation. The liberalism engendered by Sagittarius propelled the middle class into positions previously monopolised by the (Capricorn) aristocracy. By the end of the 1700's, the Enlightenment was replaced by the period of Romanticism. Immanuel Kant (1724 – 1804) was the most famous of the Romantic philosophers. He published The Critique of Pure Reason in 1781. Basically he stated that everything could not be reduced to pure (Capricorn) logic. Spanning the end of the Sagittarian sub-age and start of the new Scorpio Sub-Age, but definitely remaining within the Sagittarian stable and Romantic period, was Victor Hugo (1802 – 1885), greatest of the French Romanticists and most remembered for Les Miserable. Sagittarian Sub-Age Overflow (c.1791 - 1970) Based on the observation of the Overflow Principle from the previous sub-ages, it follows that the world has remained under well under the influence of Sagittarius up to the end of the 20th century and it has continued into the early 21st century. Ages and their sub-periods do not have truncated ends - they just slowly dissipate. This situation is readily perceived, as the world has continued in overdrive. Population increases, mass production, and exponential technological advances have continued at a breathtaking rate. The population explosion that commenced in the Sagittarian sub-age literally went off the graph in the Sagittarian sub-age overflow. The 1800's saw a 71% population increase in Europe with an even greater world wide population explosion in the 20th century. Philosophy is in the sphere of Sagittarius and possibly the most influential if not the most contentious philosopher of modern times is Karl Marx (1818 – 1883). He wrote the Communist Manifesto with Friedrich Engels in 1848. His magnum opus was Das Kapital first published in 1867 and considered to be ‘one of the most influential works of the 19th century’ [Ref: Chambers Biographical Dictionary]". The very real and unprecedented expansionary phase that gripped the world, first in 18th Century Europe, and then progressively throughout the rest of the world and into the 19th and 20th Centuries, coincides with the corresponding expansionary sign of Sagittarius. The philosophical outlook of this period resulted in the appearance of some of the most influential intellectuals of modern times, from Voltaire to Marx, again appropriate for sagacious Sagittarius. It provided the basis for the worldwide democratic revolution first experienced in the US (with a little help from the new Aquarian Age). The Sagittarian sub-age and overflow was a period when the god with the Midas touch blessed the earth, even while unprecedented destruction was unleashed. PAGE # 44 / 67

The influence of the Sagittarian overflow continues to have a marked and striking impact upon the world today as the overflow is not limited to only the following subage. However examples of Sag running out of steam should be seen in the 21st century with a reduction in the rates of expansion of population growth and economic activity. Already the population rate is declining in affluent nations. In a UN population report of 2003, it was projecting that by 2050, the world fertility figure will be an average of 1.85 per women, well below 2.1, the replacement figure. Developing nations are already following affluent nations in significantly reducing their birth rates. It is possible that the baby boomer generation began their existence under positive Sagittarius as the major god of the day only to now see the baton passed onto sombre and vulnerable Scorpio. If Capricorn is one of the key signs representing India then the Sagittarius sub-age (c.1612 – 1791) and overflow (1791 – 1970) should represent a very difficult time for India as Sagittarius is the 12th house to Capricorn. My research repeatedly indicates that house structure applies to the ages and their sub-periods. By 1700 the political situation in India had deteriorated markedly as nearly all of India and Afghanistan was ruled by the Islamic Moghul Empire. Things only went from bad to worse for India as Europeans commenced setting up trading posts in India and eventually Great Britain ruled India through the British East India Company by 1856 - but soon the British government took direct control of India. It was not until the waning days of the Sagittarius sub-age overflow that India shook off their British overlords and gained independence in 1947. Coincidentally this is not a random date for India’s independence. 1947 sits in the Scorpio sub-age (c.1791 – 1970). Most nations have two or three signs in their astrological signature. Another sign that is a contender for being a team member in India’s astrological signature is Taurus as Taurus rules the sacred cows, and Taurus does not like to change. India has had an extremely resilient culture over the last 3,500 years despite being ruled by all and sundry at various times. Scorpio sits in the 7th house position to Taurus. It was Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent protests that underpinned India’s quest for self rule. Violence is an Aries and 1st house archetype, while non-violence is Libra with a 7th house association. Furthermore within the Scorpio sub-age sits 12 micro-ages. The Capricorn microage rules 1924 – 1955 with the most potent time the first half of its overflow phase (c.1940 - 1947). To be continued – the Scorpio sub-age and overflow and the Libra sub-age. There is one supreme eternal reality; the truth; immanent in all things; creator of all things; immanent in creation. Without fear and without hatred; not subject to time; beyond birth and death; self-revealing. Known by the Guru’s grace. Do Astro remedies help the Mankind? If the question proposed in the title of this article here is surveyed amongst the people then majority of the people are unlikely to give the right answer. Even if they say yes to the question, they will not be able to remove doubts about the question completely from their minds. It is because both kinds of people the one who believe in astrology and seek the help of astrology and the other category who does not believe in astrology have one common question on their lips. This common question is; If fate is decided based on the planetary positions at the birth time and if events in the life are going to follow a fixed path based on those birth planetary positions then why is it that even scientific astrologers ask us to do certain rituals of prayers or make us wear specific gemstones or advice us that certain jobs should be attempted / accomplished at certain times only. In other words most people seem to ask that if things are going to happen as planned by the planets then it should not make any difference to the quality of the outcome if astrological remedies are followed or not followed. Dear friends, this is as far from the truth as Saturn is from Sun. Let us begin with the basics here. What is a horoscope? A horoscope is simply a map showing the position of the native with respect to the positions of the various planets in the universe. It informs us about the distance between the various planets with the native. The terminology used to define this distance is specific in terms of houses each of 30 degrees and in degrees, minutes and seconds (also called Ansh, Kala, Vikala). The basic birth chart (janam-kundali) shows where all the planets are located (ie. in which sign and at what degrees) with respect to the native at the time he/she took birth. The other charts such as Hora, Hora, Saptamansh kundali, Navansh kundali, Dreshkan, Dashmansh kundali etc (also termed as D-2, D-7, D-9, D-10 etc) are all based on the position / strength of the planets in the basic chart. These charts help the astrologers to concentrate on the specific issue and forecast more correctly. There is no doubt that all the planets in this universe are casting continuous effect on the natives. One must also remember that all the planets are in continuous movement. While they move the distance between them and the natives on earth keep changing. The angle of their sights keeps changing. Because of this the strength of the planets vis-à-vis their original position in the chart keeps changing. Their movement with respect to the movement of the Sun keeps changing. Yes, in astrology we assume that the Sun is also moving. The movement of the planets with respect to Sun makes often makes them retrograde (backward movement except in case of Moon). All these motional changes give different results on each individual. Now having re-learnt the basics, let us come back to the common question asked by many people if doing certain rituals in prayers, wearing specific gemstones & attempting to accomplish a work during specific time advised by astrologer really benefits the people. Because the contention is that if the placement of planets is fixed at the birth time and if their movements are known then how the extra efforts made by the natives help them to curb the ill effects or enhance the good effects of the planets.

MAY 2008

For understanding this issue let us assume that a native known to you has got stranded at a remote location at an odd hour and is therefore in difficulties. Imagine that this native falls in the jurisdiction & control of 9 people placed at different distances some of whom are his enemies, some friends and some people are neutral to him and that some of these people are having a direct look at the native whereas some are unable to see him/her. Is it a not situation similar to the one depicted in a horoscope where there are 9 planets around you at different angles and distances. What advice would you give to such a person, if known to you dearly? That he should soon recognize who amongst those 9 persons are his/her friends and should seek help from them. That he/she should realize who the enemies amongst those people are and who those neutral people are who can be converted into friends by instant efforts. If all those 9 people are in constant motion, as in case of the 9 planets, it is important to not only to know who are your friends or enemies but also the rapidly changing distance between you and your friends & enemies. If you have come in direct access to your enemy then you should know how to fight the situation out or at best how to reduce the intensity of harm that the enemy might cause to you. A friendly Mars to a native, if made stronger at the right time can reduce the ill effects Saturn might be causing to a native. Chanting of Surya mantra ‘ Om Vrim Namoh Bhagwate, Shree Suryaya Parmatmane Swaha’ can bring the person in some limelight if Surya is lord of his 9th house or is in some way beneficial to the native from his dasha-antardasha point of view. If Rahu is not allowing Jupiter to give benefits due to its conjunction with it then keeping fast on Thursdays, donating yellow fruits to the needy and offering specific prayer on Thursdays can enhance the power of Jupiter to curb the ill effects of Rahu. Wearing pearl in a silver ring in the little finger of the hand can practically help a person in keeping control over his/her anger if the Moon is oddly placed in the chart. Donating green vegetable can neutralize the bad effects caused by a debilited Mercury. There are numerous astrological remedies which can be selected pertaining to the exact problem. This is what the work of a scientific astrologer is. Suggesting to offer unique prayers, recommend wearing right gemstone at the right time for the right duration, counsel the people to give specific donations to specific species and to different type of people, advice about chanting the correct mantra are the astro remedies. Astrologers know the movement of the planets and their placements at any given point of time. This map is also available in several computer software programs. Experienced Scientific astrologers can interpret the effect of the transit position of the planets on a native with respect to the mahadasha – antardasha (main period – sub period) that native is passing through. If they ask the native to perform astrological remedies at particular time it is based on their understanding of the entire scenario. The remedies can be considered quite similar to a simple act of providing a contact telephone number of a helpful friendly person to the native who is stranded at a place and is in danger of being harmed by an enemy. It is like informing the helpless person in which direction to walk such that he will get a vehicle which will bring him out of the dangerous situation faster. The native could have walked out of the dangerous situation even without the astrological aid but that could have taken a bit longer time and there are chances that he/she takes the wrong path first. An astrological remedy, if rightly taken at the right time helps to accomplish the target quicker. We all know that mild fever gets cured after taking a couple of day’s bed rest. Still small medication helps in getting rid of it faster and enables the native to utilize the time effectively rather than waste in bed rest. Medical doctors say that viral infection goes away on its own in maximum 9 days. But the prescribed doses of antibiotics put the infectious person on his/her feet in 5 days. Let us put up some simple logical questions and also reply to them side by side. What happens if you do not take medicines when in health trouble? Chances are that either the trouble becomes more severe or if cured on its own takes a longer time. What do the medicines do? They fight out the bacteria which caused the infection. What does astro remedies do? They help us in fighting out the bad effects of planets. What if you do not take appropriate medicines even when immensely sick? The damage could be severe and could cause irreversible harm to you.

What if you start taking medicines only after you are terribly sick? The medicines can either cure you consuming a longer period or delay the irreversible harm the sickness could cause you. So when the most appropriate time to take medical advice is? It is soon after you notice symptoms of some problem or some uneasiness in life. If you start medication for any illness early the chances of full recovery in least time and with less monetary loss are more. Astrological remedies also work similarly. Astrological science informs us the right time and right method to tackle a problem. It indicates us when the iron will become hot so that we can strike it at appropriate time to get the best desired shape. Don’t we provide heat to chemical reactants to enable the chemical reaction complete in faster time even in cases where we use costly catalyst to promote the reaction or even when the said reaction is itself exothermic in nature? A little bit of extra effort (extra heat in this case) gives us better yield and simultaneously saves time. Just as a process chemical engineer understands at which time the extra heat is to be put on or off for which particular chemical reaction, similarly a scientific astrologer knows which remedy is required to be done at which time for which situation to get the best output. Astrology is after all science and this has been agreed across the globe. A scientific astrologer guides people in a similar fashion. Astro remedies prove to be beneficial along with the other efforts of the people to overcome problems. The astrological remedy proposed by a scientific astrologer is generally based on the following; i) ii) iii) iv)

Correct horoscope and its derivatives. The mahadasha – antardasha of the native. The transit motion of the planets at the time which is under consideration. The ‘Desh’, ‘Kaal’ and ‘Paristhithi’ of the native.

Here it is important for all of us to also understand that from astrological point of view there is a vast difference between the ‘Timing of an event / problems’ and the ‘Quality of the event / solution obtained’. One must never confuse between the time and the quality aspect. They both are entirely different. An astrological remedy can provide a solution but it is not necessary that it brings out the native completely out of a problem always. The efficacy of the trouble will surely reduce which will give the native more strength to either undergo the problem or overcome it courageously. Astrological remedies are therefore meant to be utilized for betterment in life.

In this Chart, salient features of planetary positions are (1) Lagna lord Saturn is in exalted sign; Sun in exalted sign; Jupiter is in own sign; Moon. Mars. Mercury and Venus are all in their own star. Of these Mercury gets Neecha Bhanga as stated below. Jupiter and Mercury are in vargottama position i.e. same position in Rasi and Navamsa (strong) (2) Lagna Lord aspects Jupiter by his 3rd aspect; 4th house and Sun, Venus therein by 7th aspect and 7th Bhavam and Rahu therein by his 10th aspect. According to Hindu astrology, Lagna lord’s aspect on any Bhava and Planet are good and gives beneficial results. (3) Yogakaraka Venus, (lord of one kendra and one Trikona houses) lord of 5th and10th houses is posited in a kendra to lagna and gets aspect of Lagna lord and second lord Saturn. This gives good strength to the 5th and 10th Bhavam Venus also aspects Lagna lord Saturn. Both have mutual aspects. 5th Bhavam is free from afflicion by any malefic.

(4) Lagna lord Saturn is posited in zenith i.e. 10th sign to Lagna gives added strength to him and to Lagna. PLANETS : Sun 8th lord exaltation in Mesha Rasi is not a bad one, as according to Hindu Astrology, there is no Ashtama Dosha for Sun and Moon luminaries. Another point to be noted is that Sun is Atmakaraka (soul) and by his exaltation, he gives enormous Atma Bhala strength to the native, which enable him to cross all hurdles and lead a happy life. Longevity is good. Lagna and Jupiter both fall under the star of Sun. This made his Atma Bala strength to act on relegious line. Moon, the 7th lord, is placed in 9th Bhagya sthanam, a good place to shower benefits. Venus 5th and 10th lord (aspecting his own house 10th) 5th as Poorvapunyam and 9th Bhagyam both are well placed. Mercury, 9th lord gets Neechabhanga Raja Yoga. 9th lord Moon is karaka for mother. As it is well placed, he was fortunate to have his mother with him till his 40th year. Mars as 4th & 11th lord is in 6th, a hidden house. He is aspected by benefic Jupiter from 12th Bhavam (Mutual aspect). Mars aspects Lagna and Kethu therein. As 4th & 11th lord, his mutual aspect on Jupiter. Dhanakaraka is good for wealth and earning.. As he is in 6th, he helps in his profession too, as he is in Chandra kendra. But the 6th position of Mars and 12th position of Jupiter did not allow the native to earn smoothly, but only with hard work. Mercury as 9th lord aspecting his own house 9th and Moon therein as 7th lord is very good. Moon is a kendra lord and Mercury is a Trikona lord. This combination creates an Yoga. Both have mutual aspects. Thus Bhagyam is there plenty to this chart. Mercury in 3rd Bhavam, a place of intution, knowledge, writing books etc. is in his own star Revathi, getting virgottama position. In Hindu astrology, Mercury is the only planet which gets his Neecha effects cancelled of his own, without the help of other conditions of rules for cancellation, when he is in own star Revathy in Meenam, his Neecha place, However, here he is in kendra from Chandra lagna aspected by Moon, karaka for fertile imagination, who is placed in 9th Bhagyasthanam. Thus Mercury gets Neechabhanga rajayogam and this has helped the native to become great astrologer. .As he is in upachaya house, his 6th lordship will not create much problem. Jupiter is lord of 3 and 12. not a good adhipatyam. But as a benefic planet in his own house with Virgottama position (same position both in Rasi and Navamsa) makes him strong to give benefic results. On account of this, he had extensive travels to holy places and had come into contact with many living saints. Jupiter indicates virtues. If he is spoilt, one may fall into bad habits and do all sorts of vices. Venus as 5th and 10th lord, yogakaraka for Makara lagna nativres is well placed in a kendra to Lagna, aspecting his own house 10th. This is a very good position in the matter of profession. Thus there is good Poorvapunyam amd which enabled him to achieve many things in the field of fine arts too, as detailed below. Venus 5th & 10h lord aspects Lagna and 2nd lord Saturn. Both have mutual aspects. This is also an yoga. Saturn is Lagna and 2nd lord, exalted in Thula Rasi the 10th Bhavam. Thus he attains good strength, which is a boon to the native. Saturn aspects 12th Bhavam and Jupiter, lord of 3 and 12, by 3rd asspect, by 7th aspect, 4th Bhavam and Sun and Venus therein. Venus is yogakaraka and both have mutual aspect..Saturn by his 10th aspect, aspects 7th Bhavam and Rahu therein. As already stated, lagna lord’s aspect on any Bhava and Planet, they get fortified. Jupiter is for relegious activities and he beig in 12th the native was incurring expenditure on good causes. By Saturn’s aspect on Rahu, his dosha (Rahu Dosha) gets nullified and Rahu could not do any harm to the matters related to him except his business as mentioned against Rahu below. Saturn and Rahu have exchanged their stars, which also shows that both are in affinity to each other. Saturn is karaka for longevity, which is good in this case. Saturn also makes one to work hard day and night to achieve a goal; thus gain is not without pain. Rahu : Rahu in Kataka Rasi in Saturn’s star and aspected by the later. Both Rahu and Saturn have exchaned their stars mutually.. Though he is in 7th Bhavam, supposed to spoil matrimony affairs, causing Dosha, by aspect of Saturn on him Rahu Dosha gets cancelled. Moreover Rahu is fully under the control of Saturn Lagna lord, he could not spoil the marriage of the native and happy life after marriage. Rahu as an agent of Moon at 9th also made him inactive to do any mischief in marriage matterss and family happiness. However, the native felt his

influence in the matter of business. 7th is a place for business. The native entered into a partnership business with his friend, but could not sustain for long due to Rahu’s presence in 7th. He had to be parted with partner and started the same business with partnership of his wife.(reason stated under 7th Bhavam). This is because, 8th lord Sun is exalted aspecting Lagna lord Saturn and 10th house. So, the native could not get remuneration matching his hard work and mostly the partner gained. In order to get full benefit of his profession, his wife joined him as partner in business too. Kethu : Kethu is called gnanakaraka, posited in Lagna itself getting good strength for him. (Lagna does not get strength from the placement of malefic in Lagna). Kethu also helps in astrology along with Saturn and Mercury. Kethu is in the star of Moon in 9th as 7th lord. As 7th lord Moon is well placed, Kethu could not do any harm to him. Kethu as agent of Saturn, lagna lord and 2nd lord. However, the aspect of Mars, lord of 4th and 11th on Kethu and Lagna could not be very benevolent to the native. Planets Rahu, Kethu, Saturn, all the three are interlinked with one another involving Lagna Bhavam and 7th Bhavam.. Rahu and Saturn, Lagna lord have exchanged their stars. Kethu in the sign of Saturn and star of Moon 7th lord, while Rahu is in Moon’s sign (7th lord) and Saturn, Lagna lord’s star. Saturn is in Rahu star and Rahu is in 7th Bhavam. Saturn aspects 7th Bham too. Thus Lagna and 7th Bhavams are woven with each other. Now let us take Bhava wise effects: Lagna Bhavam: Saturn is lord. His role has already been stated above under Saturn. He is in good strength. His placement in zenith (10th) further fortifies his strength. As all good and bad effects are judged first from Lagna, the strength of Lagna lord is of utmost important. He is ayul karaka, longevity is good. 2nd Bhavam :Exalted Saturn is again lord of 2nd. As he gets aspect of Venus, 5th and 10th lord, the native earned well in the field of fine arts. As 2nd Bhavam and 5th Poorvapunya sthanam Bhavam are free from malefic aspect, he has Vaksiddhi i. whatever predicted by him come true. 3rd Bhavam : Jupiter is lord. He asspects 4th and planets therein by 5th aspect, Mars 4th & 11th lord by 7th (Jupiter is Dhanakaraka too and getting connection to 11th house of profit.)and 8th bhavam by his 9th aspect. Thus he aspects 8th and 8th lord, which indicates that whomsoever he is connected in business, those persons only get the profit. For proficiency in astrology, Jupiter’s benevolance is also required. As 3rd is for intution, deep thinking, imagination, writing, publishing, communication etc. and Jupiter in his own house with virgottama position. He was a novel writer, owner of his own astrological magazine, publisher, writing about his experience of his wide travels and sharing with readers all reliegious matters. He was incharge of various reputed weekly, monthly Tamil magazines. 3rd Bhavam being a place for younger co-borns, and lord of 3rd Jupiter in 12 Vraya bhava, he has no younger co-born due to loss of his father before birth of the native. 4th Bhavam : Sun, atmakaraka and Venus yogakaraka lord of 5th & 10th. 4th lord Mars is in 6th a hiddenplace, but is in Chandra kendra. Sun as atmakaraaka gave the native abundant mental strength. By aspect of Jupiter on 4th and Sun he could concentrate on all relegious matters receive blessings of many Mahans. Venus on his part gave him all comforts in life and good income thro’ his profession. Mars in own star as lord of 11th helped him in financial matters. He got Tamil Pandit title in his early days. Within 18 years of age he learnt astrology thoroughly and started practice. For learning Astrology, one should have Saturn-Kethu connection free of malefic affliction. Here Saturn is exalted; Kethu is in Saturn’s sign, as agent of Saturn, While Saturn gets 5th lord’s (Poorvapunya) aspect, Kethu being in the star of Moon He owned a at 9th, thus getting Bhagyam signification. Hence he is proficient in Astrology. house, vehicular comforts.. 5th Bhavam : This is poorvapunya sthanam and its lord is Venus well posited in Lagna kendra aspected by Lagna lord Saturn from his exalted sign. Venus is lord of 10th also, aspecting his own house 10th.. So he earned income from many arts. He is music composer. He is a story and dialogue writer for dramas in some of which he has acted in it. He is a story and Dialogue writer to many cinemas. Super star of those days late Sri MGR (Sri M.G.Ramachandran) requested him to write story and dialogue for his own picture acted by him as hero in that

film, which was a box office hit, and gave the native a good earning and fame in cine world. Late Sri MGR presented him a Diamond Ring to him and he also attended his 61st birthday function along with many reputed persons, Ministers of T.N. He was in-charge of reputed Tamil journals. As he is a 1st grade astrologer, he brought his own Astrological Magazine which ran for several years. In that he has also given about saints with whom he came into contact and his experience of wide travel and religious matters for sharing the same with his readers. He himself produced some films in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. While Tamil film could give him money and fame, in other Telugu and Hindi pictures made heavy loss to him. He has written 3. 4 Novels. He headed several Astrological conferences where many astrologers in India and outside attended. On the occasion of his 61st birth day, he arranged an astrological conference, when world fame Dr.B.V.Raman who conferred on him a title ‘Jothisha Vachaspathi’. He is a good orator and people are thrilled to hear him for his fluent and enchanting speeches. He has conducted many Homams in his place called Brigu Mandir, (named after Brigu Maharishi of Hoshiarpur, for the benefit of people and staff working under him. Thus Venus has bestowed him with the gift of partaking in many fine art matters. For all these, his Poorvapunya sthanam 5th Bhavam, 2nd Bhavam both are free from affliction and 10th Bhava for name and fame is forified by the aspect of its own lord Venus. 5th house is also for proginy. He has 5 daughters. Reason is for 1st issue, we have to examine 5th H Rishabha, which is femenine Rasi. For 2nd issue, 3rd from 5th i.e. 7th to be seen. This house too is Kataka, a femenine Rasi. For 3rd issue, 3rd from 7th is Kanya is also femenine Rasi; For 4th, 3rd from Kanya is Vrischikam, also femenine Rasi. 5th issue too is female, because 3rd from Vrischikam is Makaram. 5th lord itself is Venus, a female planet. 6th Bhavam : Mars is in 6th & Mercury is lord. Mercury has already been dealt with in detail above. Mars is lord of 4th and 11th in 6th aspected by benefic Jupiter. He entered as a Tamil Pandit. Remained in this profession for few years & left that service to start his own business. This is due to 12th lord Jupiter’s aspect on Mars. Teaching profession is also due to Jupiter’s influence on 6th. It is worth noting here that whenever he is working under an employer, he is well treated, respected, giving full freedom to him. He worked for weekly Tamil magazines of a reputed person as owner and publisher. He was freelance writer in them an earned appreciation of readers. This is the effect of Jupiter’s aspect on 6th. Mars a planet of authority does not allow to work under an employer. 7th Bhavam : Lord is Moon in 9th in Bhagyasthanam, aspected by 9th lord Mercury in her own star.. Rahu is posited in 7th. This position of malefic in 7th normally is not good for marital affairs and happiness on account of this. In a way it causes Rahu Dosha. But here Rahu is in Saturn’s star is Agent for Saturn and as he is in Kataka, agent for Moon too. Rahu is aspected by Lagna lord Saturn, thereby removes Rahu Dosha. Rahu is fully under the control of Saturn and he could not do any mischief. He married in Rahu Dasa itself and his wife’s star is Aridra. A kendra lord having connection to Trikona lord is an yoga. Here, 7th lord Moon is in 9th and receiving aspect from 9th lord, Trikona lord. Thus 7th lord is very well placed. Moon is aspected by Mars lord of 4th & 11th from 6th. This caused him at times tension in business. He could not get his Bills for the service rendered in time from customers causing mental upset. 7th lord being fortified, he got good clientales and customers. He started business with a partner and the same was in good progress, but he could not get much benefit, which went to his partner. This is because 8th house is for his partner’s income and its lord Sun is exalted in Mesha. This is the fate; but being an astrologer himself, he turned the fate by mathi. He got seperated from partnership business and started the same with his as partner, so that all the profits can be enjoyed by both as family members. He started his own Magzine with his own Printing machines on Astrology and Numerology, which was well received by public. His staff co-operate with him well, as 6th lord Mercury aspects 7th lord Moon. Incidentally, his wife is also a good writer and she has shared her experience with readers about her travels to many places, temples etc. in their magazine. The result of breaking partnership business was mainly due to Rahu in 7th and Mars’ aspect on Moon 7th lord. However, Mars being in Chandrakendra (10th to Moon with strength – Mars is in own star). His wife is devoted and looking after all family affairs, they lead a happy life. 8th Bhavam : Lord is Sun, exalted. Both 8th Bhavam and 8th lord is aspected by Jupiter, a benefic from 12th. This gave the native wide travel in and out of country. He could do many relegeious deeds like Homams etc for the welfare of general public and for his staff. His longevity is more by 8th lord’s exaltation and as well as Ayulkaraka Saturn’s exaltation. This

Bhavam is for partner’s income. For this reason, he has his wife as business partner also. This Bhavam helps for investment also. 9th Bhavam : Is for relegious activities, Dharma etc. This Bhavam is well fortified by the aspect of its own lord Mercury and by the placement of another benefic planet Moon. This Bhavam also indicates Bhagyam. He is generous in honouring Vedic Pandits and those conducting Homams in his place called ‘Brigu Mandir’. He has travelled often to receive blessings of Brigu Muni of Hoshiarpur, Swami Ramsurathkumar of Thiruvannamalai, Swami Haridasgiri and many others. By the grace of Almighty, he constructed a temple for Durga (Rajakali Amman) near Palani by forming a trust. His contribution is much without saying. Thus Bhagyam and Poorvapunyam both showered their grace on him. 9th is for Bhagyam and 5th is for Poorvaounyam, lord Venus unblemished. (Venus is in her own star). 9th Bhavam is for father and karaka for father is Sun. He lost his father before his birth, when his mother was pregnant and the native was to be delivered. Reason for this can be analysed from his chart as postmortem. 9th house is Kanya for Makara Lagna native. 2nd and 7th are marakasthanas. Sun, karaka for father, who is also 12th lod to father’s lagna 9th, is conjoined with Venus lord of 2nd house from 9th house aspects Libra, Saturn Rogasthana lord is strong in Libra 9th lord (for the Makara lagna) Mercury is in 7th to 9th in th house of Bhadhaka Jupiter to 9th. Jupiter is in kendra to Mercury and the later gets Jupiter’s influence. For these reason, the native was unfortunate even to see him. 10th Bhavam : Lord is Venus aspected by Lagna lord. Venus aspects her own house 10th. Saturn in 10th (zenith place) exalted. Thus 10th is well fortified. He got name and fame, good earning, all by his hard work (Saturn karaka), and not by sudden rise. 11th Bhavam : Lord Mars lord of 4th and 11 in 6th. Though in 6th, he is well aspected by Jupiter, Dhanakaraka. 11th is free from malefic influence. As such there is good flow of income and savings too. 12th Bhavam : Lord is Jupiter in his own house in 12th. He is vargottam same position in Rasi and Navamsa. Thus Jupiter gets strength. As he is benefic planet, Jupiter made him to all relegious deeds and made him to travel in and out of country. Some of countries he visited are Malesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and U.S. In Hindu astrology, Bhavams 1 to 8th is for present life and 9th to 12th Bhavas are for eternal bliss. 9th is for Dharma; 10th is for Karma; 11th is for Kama; and 12th is for Moksha. As all the 9th to 12th Bhavas are well fortified, the native is sure to attain Moksha for all his good deeds. (Moksha means no re-birth) Another important thing to be noted is that all the good and bad results of Bhavas and Planets will come to fore only when favourable Dasa. Bhukthi, Antharam and the favourable position in Gochara (Transit) run. For example, one will run 2nd. 7th and Bhadhaka period almost several times in life. But only when 2, 7, (Marakas) and Bhadhaka conjointly runs, Dasa Bhukthi, Antharam also signify all the above and Gochara (Transit) also indicate unfavourable, then only there will be maraka and nototherwise. Now let us have a look at Navamsa position of planets to ascertain their strength. Mercury and Jupiter are vargottama position and they are strong. Jupiter in his own house in Rasi and Navamsa. Lagna lord Saturn in Rasi joins with Mercury in Jupiter Navamsa. Moon in its own star is in exalted sign in Navamsa. Moon as 7th lord in 9th is giver of Bhagyam. Kethu in the star of Moon in Rasi joins Moon who is exalted. Kethu is strong. Mars, Venus and Rahu are in Mars Navamsa. Mars in his own house in Navamsa. Only Sun is in debilated sign; but he is in the star of Venus owner of debilated sign and Venus is in Lagna kendra and as well as Chandrakendra. His Neecha gets cancelled (Neecha bhanga. From the above, it may be seen that almost all the olanets are in good strength. It may be stated here that Lagna, Jupiter are in the star of Sun, Atma karaka and as such the native got Atma Bala (mental strength toovercome all hurdles), and progress in life.

All the time. I have mentioned both the charts as Chart ‘A’ native and Chart ‘B’ native. Now I shall reveal their real names: Chart ‘A’ is one Mr. S.Parthasarathy of Adyar, Chennai, who is a good astrologer with ordinary income and less fame. He is also a pious person, relegiously much inclined. Chart ‘B’ is that of Sri Vidwan Lakshmanan, Chennai, ‘Bala Jothidam’ Editor and Publisher of Astrological magazine and a well known person in Astrological circle, whose chart has been analysed in this Part II, as it is found to be superior to other. Chart ‘A’ has been analysed in Part I and Chart ‘B’ in this part II. Though many events are common in both the cases, but getting name and fame is emphasised in this chart. ------------
