On my first day of class in an American university, I discovered that there are many differences  between universities in US and in my country. One difference hit me immediately when the  professor walked into the classroom dressed in casual pants and a sports shirt. Then he s at down, and I received a second shock. He sat down on the desk, not behind the desk. The biggest shock happened when he passed out a piece of paper listing the requirements of the class. I learned that I was not allowed to miss any classes! In my country, professors do not know or care if students attend lectures, but in the United States, professors actually call the roll at the beginning of each class meeting. In my opinion, compulsory attendance in college is completely inappropriate for two reasons. College students are adults, not elementary school children. College students have passed through their childhood, adolescence and into adulthood, which of course must know what is best for them. Learning is the main task of a student / college student,  but learning can be done in many ways, and attending college is one of way, but not the only one. If they feel they can learn by themselves, it's okay not to go to college. This means that coming or not coming to college, they still have to study. If they feel capable of learning by themselves and feel that coming to college does not add significant knowledge, free them to choose, come or not come. Only those who know their own abilities, and for this, they learn to judge themselves and are responsible for themselves. Students often have other obligations such as jobs and family. Some college students who study in campus are people who have worked and decided to go to college to improve their careers and positions so that their responsibilities are not solely for college  but also carry out their main tasks in an institution. Moreover, some of college students also hav e families who require attention that they cannot attend each class. They must take care o f the family which is also a responsibility that cannot be abandoned To summarize, attendance in college classes should be optional. Students may already know the material that the professor will cover. Sometimes the professor lectures on material that is in the textbook, so students can read it on their own time. Therefore, in my opinion, compulsory attendance in college classes should be abolished. (Source: Oshima and Hogue. 2007. Introduction to Academic Writing).

TASK 6.

Task 6 KB3 Choose one prohibition sign below which attracts you to generate your ideas to write an analytical exposition text. Be sure to apply the knowledge you have learnt.

If everyone on Earth threw garbage and litter indiscriminately wherever they went, the world as we know it would soon be in ruins. Litter in our surroundings is an important environmental issue, which many people overlook. While a majority of people do know that littering is a bad thing, many continue to carelessly scatter their trash around nonetheless. There are a host of problems that stem from littering, and the environment has been suffering as a result of some people's inability to control this habit. Money is also wasted because of it. The government has to employ people to pick up trash, and that means funding from tax revenue. Littering can be hazardous to one's health as well. littering will invite disease pests to come from sources of waste which of course will be very dan gerous for the surrounding community who will  be susceptible to pests and diseases There are misconceptions about what constitutes litter. Some people think that if an item is organic (and will "turn into dirt") it's alright to throw it anywhere. Banana peels, apple cores, and the like, are just some things that come to mind on this one. But in reality, throwing garbage around, organic or otherwise, is littering. And the environment is adversely a ffected by it. Why do people litter? Quite frankly, the main reason is simple laziness. Our environment can be made much more attractive if people simply use garbage cans properly. If you have garbage to dispose of, and there's isn't a garbage can nearby, then wrap your trash up (in a napkin, plastic,  paper bag, etc) and place it in your pocket or carry it with you until you reach a garbage can. Also, make sure that the trash actually goes into the garbage can, and does not fall to the side. It's all a simple matter of proper waste disposal, which is vital for our environments and for our ecosystems. The truth is, we all know about the problem. Now its time to act on it, if you haven't  been. But if you already do have proper and responsible waste disposal habits, remember that you can make a difference by encouraging others to follow your example. When we dispose of our garbage properly, instead of polluting our environment, it does more than just help our locale to look good - we all feel better about it as well.
