Bitumen Heat Exchangers This heat-exchanger unit heater is designed for rugged industrial applications for hot-oil, steam, water, glycol circulating heating systems. To heat bitumen supplies, using in continuous or batch blown units from 120ºC to 200ºC, with hot-oil. The frost resistant series is designed primarily for steam applications that are subject to freezing conditions. The highpressure series is designed for pressures to 400 psi in single-pass and multi-pass configurations. Multi-pass units greatly improve performance with liquids. The Series both have a 1-year warranty.

The specific Heat of Bitumen is as follows: ºC 0 100 200

KJ/kgºC 1.67 1.89 2.10

cal/g/ºC 0.4 0.45 0.5

Other Bitumens Characteristics Thermal conductivity is about 0.16 W/meter °C (0.14 kcal/meter hour °C). Bitumen is a moderately good thermal insulating material. Coefficient of cubical expansion is about 0.0006/°C. E-asphalt.com will be happy to quote special machines or project plant on receipt of details of composition of the product, etc.

Industrial Dissolver Polymer Modified Bitumen Alternatives of use: Have a tank and a mill Scatterers. Scatterers in line for the recirculation to the same tank would be on preference. It can be mixed asphalt AC-5 or AC-20 with polymer SBS, APP, EPDM, used rubber tyre, etc in concentrations up to 40% in weight directly. We consider a mixed time about of 2-4 hours. It will not be necessary to account on a homogenizing later tank and this same tank can be used as storage for office to pipes or manufacture of emulsions. The tank must have isolate and heated by jacket or serpentine or with thermal oil. For that, it is needed: Mall Pillow Duplex Disolvedor Disintegrator. Stainless Steel AISI 316. Include three propellers each one. Details: measured in millimetres. O´rings and detents of Viton / bearings armoured. Manufacture of the machine in Buenos Aires. Include electrical motor, included office expenses and packing

The Blend Preparation of Polymer and Bitumen Large volumes of polymer-bitumen blends are used in roofing, road surfacing and waterproofing applications, and the mixing process employed can have a significant effect on both the technical properties of the resulting blend and the economies of the whole operation. A number of factors influence the mixing process and it is the object of this bulletin to describe these factors and their significance and to outline how the operation may be optimized. The parameters influencing the mixing process may be defined as follows: * Nature (grade) of polymer * Physical form of polymer * Nature and grade of bitumen * Type of equipment * Time-temperature profile during mixing The last of these is not strictly an independent variable, but its importance in the context of subsequent performance of the blend warrants its inclusion here. Inline High Shear Mixers For the continuous processing or batch recycling of products, we have a complete range of high shear inline mixers from the 0.25 kW laboratory unit to the 125 kW Multi Shear Mill. Designed to exacting standards, their construction makes it physically impossible for any materials liquid or solid to bypass the precision rotor/stator work head. The machine's own high volume centrifugal action - from 10 Liter/minute up m 250,000 liter/hour - will in most cases satisfy the user's requirements without the need for auxiliary pumps

Former Roofing Felts Machines Waterproof Felts Consist of a fibrous felt which is impregnated and/or coated with bitumen. Traditionally, the felt was made from the waste rags of wool, cotton or linen but more recently these have been replaced by cheaper materials such as wood fiber, jute, manila hemp or waste paper. Glass fiber is increasingly used and holds up to 50 % of the market in certain countries. Synthetic fiber felts (low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyester, acetylated polyvinyl alcohol, sometimes reinforced with glass fiber) are also used; their main advantage is a much greater resistance to rupture when stretched by 5 % or more as a result of movement of the roof. They also have a greater tensile strength and resistance to rotting than conventional felts but they are more expensive and may be sensitive to thermal damage during manufacture. Depending on the type of felt, the manufacturing processes can consist of as many as three steps: Saturating If the felt is of an absorbent type, that is, most types made from natural fibers, it will contain up to 7% m of water even when it appears to be dry. It may therefore need drying before it is treated with bitumen.

Felt is saturated by passing through a tank of hot bitumen. It may be passed over a series of rollers in the tank to increase the residence time and aid impregnation; it may also be sprayed with bitumen before entering the tank. Another technique is to apply hot bitumen by means of rollers to one side of the felt before it enters the tank and so drive any water out of the felt to reduce foaming. The bitumen in the tank is at such a temperature to produce a viscosity of less than 200 cSt; this corresponds to 160-170°C for the usual grades (80/ 100 or 180/200 pen). Substantially higher temperatures of about 200°C giving viscosities down to 20 cSt are sometimes used in order to reduce residence time and so increase throughput. If foaming in the tanks is experienced, a few ppm of a silicone anti-foam agent should be added to the bitumen.

Incinerator Furnace

In a blown bitumen process, some gases are produced and will be incinerated for ecological environment conditions In another process, some waste containing PVC, rubber and so on require to be treated after combustion prior to being discharged to the atmosphere. Depending on the type of gases to be treated, we provide three filtering : Dry-process filtering Semidry-process filtering Wet-process filtering

Blending Characteristics of Bitumens Bitumens are miscible with each other in all proportions. The penetration and softening point of a blend of two bitumens can be estimated using the blending charts by joining with a straight line the points an the vertical scales giving the penetrations or softening points of the grades to be blended and then using the horizontal scale to read the proportions of the blend of the required proportions. These charts are quite accurate for blends of bitumen of the same type (same PI), i.e. two penetration grades or two blown grades. They are however, inaccurate when used for a blend of a penetration grade with a blown grade, giving figures which are too "hard", that is, the actual blend will have a higher penetration and a lower softening point than the straight line, blending chart predicts. The properties of such blends should be determined experimentally. Bitumen/petroleum oil blends (cutbacks) Bitumen may be mixed with a wide variety of petroleum fractions for different applications. Volatile light fractions (white spirit, naphtha) are used for cutbacks where rapid drying is required. Medium fractions (kerosene, gas oil), are used where a longer drying time is permissible. Heavier cuts (in the luboil range) are used where permanent softening is required these blends are virtually equal to a softer grade of bitumen. Two general rules apply to solvents for bitumen: * the heavier the solvent fraction, the better the solvent * the more aromatic the fraction, the better the solvent The recommended temperature limits for handling bitumen for long-term storage, short term storage and maximum safe working conditions are as follows:

Recommended Temperature Limits, °C Long-term Short-term storage storage or Grade (one week or delivery longer) PEN and H Grades Penetration > 200 105 155 100-200 115 165 40-100 125 175 Penetration
