DESIGN BASIS The UPS system configuration shall be capable of being operated in “Redundant Mode” as specified in CLNo:4.2 of Data schedule for “Power Supply Uninterruptible” , page 31 of 40 of PTS-1022. In Redundant Mode, where each UPS modules (charger, inverter and static switch assembly) shall be sized to independently carry the full AC critical load. Under normal operating conditions, only one of the UPS unit shall be operating and carrying 100% load whereas the other unit shall be in standby mode. The failure of the operating UPS unit shall cause the standby UPS unit to carry 100% of the critical load and disconnect the inoperative module/unit from the critical load, which upon repair shall resume standby operation. In the event of failure of the second operating system, carrying 100% load, when one system is already off-the line, the load shall be transferred automatically, uninterrupted to the alternate source (bypass) The Redundant UPS system configuration would be as per FIG-2, page 40 of 40 of 46-SMSS-3, Rev-2
3.2
The rated Input and Output characteristic of the UPS will be as follow, as per CLNo:4.3 of Data schedule for “Power Supply Uninterruptible” , page 31 & 32 of 40 of PTS-1022. UPS Input characteristic: a) b) c) d)

The Battery charger/rectifier rated input /output voltages are as follows, as per CLNo:4.3 of Data schedule for “Power Supply Uninterruptible” , page 35 of 40 of PTS-1022. a) b)
Input Voltage(Vac) Output Voltage
: :
480V 125V DC
3.4
As specified in CLNo:4.3 of Data schedule for “Power Supply Uninterruptible” , page 35 of 40 of PTS-1022, 125V DC “ Vented Lead Acid Type “ battery is proposed for UPS.
3.5
The Battery back-up time shall be 2-hours in case of normal AC supply failures as per ClNo-2.4A.4, page 9 of 21 of APPENDIX-VII (Instrumentation & Control) of PTS-1022.

UPS SIZING :
4.1
The individual input VA requirement for each load is calculated considering power factor 0.8 as per the following equation. Load in VA
=
Load in Watt ------------------------Power Factor
4.2
The sizing calculation worksheets is attached as “Annexure-1”
4.3
The critical loads, which are listed in Annexure-1, has been considered for the UPS sizing calculation.
4.4
The Unit Loads(in watt) considered in Annexure-1 are on the basis of assumption.
4.5
Growth Factor of 1.25 has been considered to allow future expansion of loads as per Cl No-8.3, page 9 of 15 of SES-P-103.05.
5.0
CONCLUSION:
5.1
The UPS rating of 7 kVA is considered to be adequate as per calculations in Annexure-1 attached. ISSUE P0A
