Foreword by Paul Carnazzo In the short time I’ve known Andreu, I’ve come to admire the way his mind works. He has a knack for taking clever effects and systems and turning them into something even cleverer; Tribal Mentalism is a great example of this. Be on the lookout for some more great ideas from him! We are all familiar with the Binary System and its applications for use in the realm of mentalism, and it is indeed one of my favorite methods. Andreu introduced me to a similar, but more multifaceted system; the Quaternary System. I was not familiar with this system being used in mentalism, and was pleasantly surprised with is relative simplicity and it numerous possibilities. After a brief discussion with Andreu regarding the Quaternary System he immediately went to work creating a powerful mentalism mentalism routine utilizing this system. By using the system as described in this book you will create a moment that can only be described as real mindreading. Andreu is merely scratching the surface of the potential of this system. As you’ll see, this routine is easily adaptable to suit your personality and performance style. Don’t be daunted by the Quaternary System. At first it may seem complex, but in the context of this routine it’s really quite q uite simple. Once you learn it you will have another tool to add to t o your mentalism arsenal!

Prologue I have to confess I generally skip Prologues thinking they are complete fillers; as this is the first effect I’ve ever published I’ll try my best to keep it short! My name is Andreu, I’m a mentalist and a software engineer from Colombia (please don’t think anything bad about my native land or I will send you a Darth Vader grip choke right now! Die!), Di e!), Ok, while it’s a beautiful a  beautiful country, sadly known for a lot of not so positive stuff I don’t want to mention right now, there are also smart, working, positive folks in here… hey, just look at me, I’m awesome! ;) Well, back to being serious… serious… I have to say I’m really excited to share this effect with the mentalism community; community; it came after days of looking for inspiration… inspiration… I think the principle is awesome and I hope that it inspires a lot of you guys out there to take it, use it, abuse it, have fun with it, get high with it (not really), get creative and of course also drop me some lines if you appreciate my efforts to my personal email: [email protected] If you want to give the secrets a quick peek, it’s ok (sigh), you may get confused… so, so, instead of that, I that, I fully recommend you to read the complete book first, first, and then reread the methods that called your attention… to see the one that really suits your style as a performer…

Thanks a lot for your support; it really means a lot to me…  me…   please keep this effect to yourself thus giving it the true value it deserves.

Tribal Telepathy - Premise This is the premise for my first published effect, Tribal Telepathy. I consider it a fantastic effect, not only for one on one mentalism but also for Stage. A female, sexy spectator challenges the mind mind performer, to read her mind immediately… The mentalist just smiles and tells her it i t doesn’t really work that way, in fact he invites her to have a tea and then he explains her more about the way in which mindreading works. After some talking, the performer proposes an experime experiment nt in telepathy. He takes out 2 small writing pads, 4 color markers and 3 cards, explaining they have around 70 different words on them in different colors. They are used for mindreading as the words can be imagined or visualized without any difficult difficulty y by the spectator. So as a first fi rst step, she chooses any card and is asked to think of any of i ts different words at all (it’s a free choice). choice). The mind performer gives her one of the pads. He gives a step away and looks away as not to look at anything that she draws from now on. She begins to draw a part of the object; first she will draw the bottom the bottom part of of that drawing… drawing… then the middle and finally the top part of it, giving it full completion. completion. The performer now asks her to hide her drawing and don’t let him see it… he turns back and walks toward her… Now, he takes his pad and asks her to close her eyes ey es and visualize this object… and to imagine how it would make her feel. As he’s drawing some mental impressions he says…

“This is something that you could find at the sea…”  “It would make you feel peaceful, if you imagine you’re now in there, right?”

8

The mentalist concludes his drawing and hands her out a sheet of paper, asking her not to look at it yet. Finally, she is asked to name the thought of word for the first time. She says: “I was thinking of a boat…”  “Wow… Please look at that sheet of paper I just gave gave you…”   you…”  She looks at the th e drawing and smiles; completely amazed… amazed… She may take this boat drawing as a souvenir to remember thi this s fantastic mome m oment… nt…

- Almost 70 different words used, the EXACT word is divined correctly without anything said by her. - No impression pads, memory work, dual reality, preshow or stooges used. - Ideal for Powerful one on one Mentalism or Stage S tage (3 spectators). - Can be done without anything written down or drawn by the spectator! - New, amazing, revolutionary secret for mindreading!

So, now that you know the basic premise for Tribal Telepathy, I will go straight to the presentation for One on One Mentalism. Then, the secret will be explained… explained … And after you read the secret, I will explain a variety of methods, from which you will choose one that suits best your character as a performer.

9

Tribal Telepathy - 1 on 1 The Mentalist finishes his cup of tea. He takes out some writing pads, 3 cards and 4 markers and puts them on the table. He can put the markers inside a pen holder or clear cup too... - 4 color Sharpies (Orange, Blue, Red and Green). “Hey, I would like to ask you something, what are your thoughts on telepathy?”  he asks the young lady. “You know, regardless of what we think about it, ancient and tribal cultures used it as a natural part of their human ability to communicate with others… it’s interesting how in modern societies this has chang ed ed and it’s rather seen as a power that only some possess… twins for example, as they are brought to life at the same time, they are said to share a similar energy that boosts their telepathic powers…”. “I personally find it a very interesting fact that Telepathy became the first metaphysical phenomenon to be scientifically studied since 1885 by the American Society of Psychic Research. The first tests that took place were actually pretty simple; there was a sender and a receiver always. The sender would try to transmit a number, taste or visual colorful image to the receiver”. “ While While I don’t want to alter your perception about this subject, I would really love to make an experiment right now, with just me and you and the power of visualization of our minds …” minds …” “ As a Mentalist, I carry these cards with me everywhere… right now, you may be asking why”. “Well, when I’m talking to people they usually ask me to read their minds, this is completely normal, but I have found that when someone thinks of any word or piece of information at all and gets in a challenging mood against me I tend to get confused and never give a direct answer… this happens because, because , as a mentalist I guide myself clearly only when someone is able to make a vivid, colorful image of their thought or a physical representatio representation n of it…”  “So that’s why I ask people to write their thoughts down JUST when they a re a re thinking of anything, this materialization of a thought in a specific moment helps me to understand what they are visualizing better…”  “These cards have approximately 70 different words… they are common words, this has a “These purpose… it’s not the same thinking about a strange word  you won’t probably know or can relate to, than thinking about a concrete word that is easy to visualize in your mind in a bright, colorful and vivid way… this, way…  this, along with a positive vibe from people, really helps me to perceive mental projections in a more effective way. ”  10

“In a moment I’m going to ask you to think of any of those words… just to think about it, memorize it and never tell it to me…make me… make it something significant to you and not just any random word… you word… you will help me to draw that word and visualize it with just 3 colors… this colors… this will really help you to project the thought successfully onto my mind…”  “ Ok, Ok, so please take Card No. 1 and look at any of those words… I want you to retain that word right now in your mind… please don’t tell me the word…” She takes Card No. 1 and picks any word at all. “ I think you’re you’re ready…”  “L et et your eyes get to that word to actually se e the color of its letters… please visualize that color in your mind right now… as you can see I have 4 markers in the cup / pen holder”. “P lease lease take the marker that corresponds to the color you have in mind, please … I’m turning away right now as I don’t want to look at your drawing…”  She takes the first marker and begins to draw something. “ Please Please begin to draw the bottom part of it … it … if it has legs draw the legs, if it’s on the water, draw a part of the sea waves… very good…” “Now, please put card No. 1 in 1  in my left jacket pocket and take Card No. 2 from my right hand… very good… I won’t turn back …”  …”  “Look at your word   again on this card … and now look at its color … get the marker that corresponds to that color… if it’s the same marker don’t worry, just use it…”  She takes the second marker and keeps drawing. “Ok good, now keep drawing the middle part of that drawing, if you want draw some details, for example the place in which it is, some background… that’s good…”  “Well you know how it works now… just put Card. No. 2 in my pocket and take Card No. 3 from my left hand… and find the word and color…”  “Good, now take that color marker and finish the top part of the drawing…”  She finishes the drawing. “I think you’re done, you’re  done, please hide the drawing, close all the markers and leave them on the pen holder ”. ”. The mentalist now turns back and takes his pad. “OK, let me take out my pad I will begin to draw something…”  “Your word is associated with movement; it is something that you could imagine moving most of the time, correct …?” – …?” – Yes. 11

“Perfect, I sensed that… I think it also has something to do with different scenarios you could visit with it … am I right?” – right?”  – Yes. “Nice, it makes you feel safe and protected… it has something to do with the sea, yes?”  – Yes. The mentalist hands her the complete drawing and asks her not to look at it yet.

“Ok, please tell me, what were you thinking of… for the first time?”  – “ I thought of a boat ”  ” . “Please look at the drawing I made…”  She sees the drawing of the boat and smiles. “Wow, awesome… you’re awesome, and you did it amazingly well… that’s the ancestral and magnificent power of our minds…!”

Note: Note: You can make the words yourself, just keep the colors / order and you’ll be fine!

The Crib Sheets Print this info on any sheet of paper; don’t let the spectator look at it. You should also print the Lazy Crib Sheet (it’s almost at the end of the book). Word List

16

The Secret This part of the book is not available in your country. We are sorry for any inconveniences.  Just kidding kidding – here it is. The secret relies on a quaternary or “ base 4” 4” system, as a Software Engineer I’m obsessed with numbers and even more with these types of systems that provide a great way of presenting almost impromptu mindreading if performed well. Heck, they even allow your computer to appear like a real mind reader with a fantastic memory, processing and storing millions of  bytes! I’m aware that binary system has been used u sed in the past for mindreading effects… effects… but I haven’t seen the first effect that uses base 4, so here h ere it is… So, basically the secret is based on the colors and the order of the words… words… they are arranged in a specific way which will allow us to work out their exact word. This works because the combination of colors is always unique for each of the words, isn’t it amazing? I won’t be explaining a lot of theory as to why it works as works  as I consider it unnecessary extension,  but I will give give the exact setup and method method used to get their minds read!

Printing the 3 Cards at Home First you have to print the 3 cards that have the back colored design. The other two cards (Crib (Crib Sheets) Sheets) are important to the performer but not to the spectator, so just print them in any regular paper. For the 3 cards, buy some Matte Photo paper, print them and let them dry for something like 8 hours. After they are mostly dry, do not touch the ink directly or you may ruin the great work. Paste some transparent contact paper on the outside (this is a bit tricky if you’re shaky, just relax, take a deep breath and do it). This way they will look gorgeous and the ink will stay in its place, protecting them from any harm… you could also laminate them if you want m ore protection protection though. Of course, if you’re lazy just ask someone else to do this for you and you’re ready to go.

17

Quick 3 Step Setup - After Printing the 3 Cards 1) Take out a Black Sharpie, writing pad and get the 3 cards inside of it. 2) Print and Paste the crib sheets on the first left page of the pad.  You may decide decide to also print / paste paste the Lazy Crib Sheet, Sheet, which we will will get to explain explain later. later. At the right side you’re going to make a drawing or representation of their word, something similar (the lazy crib sheet is not shown here) – not equal - to this should give you an idea:

3) Take the 4 color markers (Orange, Blue, Red and Green) and set them up in a “special way” way”, after they are set, put them inside a glass cup or a pen holder (or on the table). Ok so, first of all have your markers ready.

18

I use Sharpie markers because they have 2 texts, one says Sharpie Permanent Marker Fine point, and the other one says the same but has an AP Logo to Logo to the right:

Align all of the marker caps with the long tail of the S and the AP Text, like shown in here:

Now, take a Black Sharpie marker and make a very small mark in the place where the cap joins with the marker. Don’t mark it outside, mark on the diagonal part where the marker closes with its i ts cap! cap! First you should align the cap as described, then get it off the marker and do the little black mark on the cap, and then on the marker, believe it or not, these are marked:

19

When they draw something they will have to uncap it and it will be almost impossible for them to leave the cap in this same exact position that you had it, we will look at the whole mark and if it’s not together it means the marker has been used. used. This will be useful for getting information later… later…

Green Marker Aligned and Marked

Green Marker after Being Used by the Participant:

20

Get the marks really close to each other as if you were drawing a continuous dot.  You want to look if the th e figure is still as a “whole” after they have used the marker and not separated separated like in the th e second image of the Green Marker. This previous marking idea goes credited to Paul Carnazzo which he uses in his fantastic effect Animania Animania,, credits also go to Max Maven. Maven. I liked the original idea a lot but found out that in performance I was taking too long to find out what markers were used… I used…  I wanted to be able to do it immediately, so I thought of these marks that are pretty close to each other and are very easy to read for the performer.

21

Method No. 1  –  Annemann  Annemann’s Peek I called this Method No. 1 because 1 because I will propose more interesting methods later. Please do not skip any of them or I’ll hack your bank account… nah, not really! really ! I hope you like this first method; it’s pretty devious and exciting! exciting! Also, if you’re afraid of markers there’s nothing to worry about… just keep reading…

I’m going going to explain the whole method with the example of chosen word: DAGGER This will only change for a little part on the whole process, in which I will put the example of another word (Clock (Clock)) for the sake of clearing things up. Dagger would Dagger  would be Word No. 11 if you consult the Word the Word List on the Crib the Crib Sheets. Sheets. Heating up. First of all, talk about the way in which mindreading works, projecting colors and words and giving a nice background or context to the entire effect.

Note: In reality there are 64 words, so if you tell you have approximately 70 / 75 printed words, it’s not a lie, but lie, but an optimistic optimistic approximation, approximation, so be optimistic! optimistic! Let the game begin…

22

1. Ask her to look at Card No. 1 and think of any word at all that she really likes. Ask her to follow well your instructions and never tell you the word or the experiment won’t make any sense. So, let’s let’s say she looks at this point at Card No. 1 and 1 and thinks of the word DAGGER DAGGER then.  then. 2. Now ask her to look at Card No. 1 and find out the color that corresponds to the written letters of that word. w ord. And also tell her to take the same color marker that corresponds to the color she just saw. Here comes the Annemann Peek. When she’s taking the marker out of the cup / holder, pretend to look down while you glance at it quickly, while you just say: “I will turn around now as I don’t want to look at anything of what you’re going  to  to draw …”  …”  I first saw this peek on a Max Maven DVD, I think it was on a card routine on Videomind. It’s a devilish and innocent way to peek at anything, plus it looks very fair. Credit goes to Ted Annemann, the legend, for this fantastic peek. So, the first peek is done, you already know the identity of the first color, the more casually you do it, the better. If you’re doing it one on one, the t he spectator should be looking to find the correct marker and not be looking at you!

… Let me give you a good hint of what’s coming! The purpose of all of this process is to get a 3 digit code that will tell us the word… word …  Yes, this works works with 3 digit digit codes that denote denote each word. word. For example, if the word is Airplane Airplane,, the correspondent code is 0 0 0. If the word is Boat Boat,, the correspondent code is 0 1 0. If the word is Dagger Dagger,, the correspondent code is 0 is  0 2 3. I’ll show you later all the codes and explain this better, just be a little patient…!

23

So, let’s let’s say she first took the Orange Marker. You gave her Card No. 1, 1, so this Orange color color (marker) she picked up, tells you that there is a 0 in position 1 (as she took Card 1)  of the complete 3 digit code. So the digit code until now would be:

0

?

? .

In the given example, Dagger Dagger would  would have the Orange color on color on Card No. 1, so she would take the Orange Sharpie. Thus, you know that 0 is the first digit code (please read further Explanation just ahead).

Color Code Number Explanation There are only 4 possible colors she colors she can always al ways choose from (Orange, (Orange, Blue, Red and Green). But this doesn’t imply she will always necessarily take 3 different markers to do it , because some colors may be repeated among repeated among the different cards. Each color represents a very simple code, code, unknown to the spectator:

Orange Blue Red Green

0 1 2 3

As I said before, the combination of colors among the different cards will allow you to know the exact word. Side Note: Please try not to do this with a colorblind spectator! Or suffer the consequenc consequences! es! End of Side Note

24

Let’s go back back to the Method… Method… You know that the digit 0 is the first one… This happened because she said the word was in Orange Orange letters  letters (and according to the  the  Color Values,, Orange = 0, Blue = 1, etc… Values etc…). Of course if she had said Blue you would have a 1 as your first digit, digit, and so on...

3. Ask her to take Card No. 2 and repeat a similar procedure. Now, she looks at Card No. 2 and 2 and takes the corresponding corresponding marker to the color of letters. If she makes a sound of taking another marker from the cup, you obviously know she went for another color. If she stays sitting there and makes no noise, you know for sure it’s the same one… one… there’s an additional idea about this at the end of Step 4 about this. L et’s say she gets close to the th e cup (you would hear her, of course). You have two options in options in here. i) First Option: After she takes the new marker, secretly peek at the cup / pen holder. Look what markers are still in it, this will tell you what marker she just picked up. In this case you y ou get to know immediately the second important digit of the final combination. If you look at Card No. 2, Dagger is Dagger is in Red Color, so, according to your instructions instructions,, she must have taken a Red Marker. Marker. You know this, not because of supernatural powers, but because you have just peeked at the cup and saw that the remaining markers are Blue and Green. Green . So, she took a Red Marker, Marker, thus you y ou know the second important digit:

0 2

25

? .

ii) Second Option: Don’t peek at all. So you want to be ultra clean and never peek again… Ok… it’s also possible; don’t you just love the flexibility and apparent impossibility of this fantastic effect? I do, for sure…  As this option makes everything look more impossible, I fully recommend it even if it’s a little  bit trickier in the the long run…

4. Finally ask her to look at Card No. 3 and take the correct marker. Wait until she finishes the drawing, and tell her to cap all the markers and leave them on the pen holder. She finally takes another marker from the cup (or not, if it’s the same as one she’s already holding), corresponding corresponding to the th e color of Card No. 3. You have the same options as in the previous step:

i) Looking with peripheral vision at the cup and finding out if there are any markers left. In this case, according to the example example,, Dagger Dagger would  would have the Green color on the third card. Let’s say you peek one final time (sneaky eyes, eh?) at the cup and all you see is the unused blue marker. marker. So you know the final marker she got was Green, thus the 3 digit number is:

0 2 3 ii) You decide to be very clean, keeping your promise, and never peeking after the Annemann’s Peek. So, the situation is… you only know 1 digit: you know for sure that the first digit is a zero zero,, in the case of the word Dagger Dagger,, or any word that has Orange on the first card. Are you screwed or what?! Not really!

26

Ask her to put the caps on all the markers and insert them on the cup while you are keeping your eyes still closed. closed. Now you ask her to hide her final drawing. Turn back, don’t focus any attention on the on  the Orange one, you know it was used as the first one. Now you can tell here you’re going to start also making a very colorful drawing (in fact, use any excuse to just check the markers caps… caps… ).

If you didn’t peek anymore than the first time, there are 3 possible events that events that can happen:

Event 1: She only used 1 Marker (improbable).

So, let’s say she only used 1 marker to draw the entire picture, picture , for example if she chose the word Airplane this Airplane this would happen. This is highly unlikely; its probabilities are of 6.25% as there are only four possible words that can be drawn with the same color). In this case, the absence of sound / movement of her taking out any markers would tell you that she kept drawing all the time with the same marker she took from the start. So if for example she first chooses Orange and you sense or hear that she doesn’t’ get close to the cup / holder to retrieve any other marker, you instantly know the word would be Airplane. Airplane. If the same situation happens with Blue, the word would be Garden. Garden. For Red, Red, it would be Owl and Owl and for Green it Green  it would be Zebra. Zebra. Again, there’s a very small chance of this actually happening! happening! … If you’re not getting the full picture now, picture  now, don’t worry, just worry, just calm down down and keep keep reading… reading…  You will, trust me…!

27

Event 2: She used 2 different different Markers to make the full Drawing (Probability: (Probability: 56.25%).

This is the most likely event that could happen. For this second event, let’s l et’s say she didn’t didn’t choose Dagger Dagger (because  (because in that case she would need 3 different markers to markers to draw it – 0 2 3). Instead let’s let’s just  just say, for the sake of clarity on this single example, example , that she chose Clock Clock,, (in that case, Full Code Number Number = 0 2 2). 2). In the given case she chose Clock Clock,, she still would have taken Orange Orange as  as a first fi rst color. So you know that a 0 goes first and that’s all you know until the end of the whole process she  just did. Your mind right now should be like this:

0

?

? .

Open your eyes (or take off your blindfold) and turn back. Take all of the markers and say you’re going to draw… Align them with your left hand against the face of the notepad (this won’t be seen by the spectator) and check their cap alignment with the S of the AP Part of the Sharpie, obviously ignore the first marker you peeked at (for the Clock example, ignore the Orange Orange marker  marker). ). An alternate handling would be just to take any other marker (different ( different to Orange), look at the cap to check if it doesn’t correspond to your initial setup (that ( that is, the cap is not aligned with the S of the “AP” part of the th e Sharpie). If so, it’s been used. You can begin to draw with each marker a part of the drawing, as to never draw any suspicion. So, let’s let’s go back to the example… you example…  you ignored  ignored  Orange, Orange, and took Red from Red from the cup / holder and when you were going to open it, you saw the cap wasn’t aligned, aligned, so Red was used too... Draw anything with the red marker, for example any background or even your signature at the side of the page, as the spectator doesn’t see this it really doesn’t matter a lot. lot. At this point you can leave Red Red again  again at a t the pen holder and take Green Green and  and Blue Blue.. Check their cap alignment, for the “Clock” example you would see that they have been untouched.

28

Therefore, you have 3 possible combinations of combinations of markers she used to do the drawing: 1) She first took Orange, then Red and finished the drawing with the Red Marker. 2) She first took Orange, then Red and finished the drawing with the Orange Marker. Marker. 3) She first took Orange, then continued drawing with Orange and finished the drawing with the Red Marker. As amazing or impossible as it may sound, we are just 3 words away from away from knowing her exact thought!!! Orange, Red, Red, Red (0 2 2) Orange, Red, Orange (0 2 0) Orange, Orange, Orange, Red (0 0 2) So we just have 3 possible options, if you wish you could write down the combinations of numbers on the pad during performance (don’t show it to anyone of course). course).

Possible Combinations.

0 2 2 OR 0 2 0 OR 0 0 2

29

Event 3: She used 3 different different Markers to make the full Drawing (Probability: (Probability: 37.5%).

For this event, I will assume she chose Dagger Dagger.. Ok, so you know that Orange was used at first. The situation is:

0

?

? .

You just need to find out which 2 other markers were used during the process. For the given example, you would turn back and ignore the Orange marker (or the first one you peeked at), just take any other one casually and before opening it, look at the cap, if it doesn’t correspond to your initial setup (cap is not aligned align ed with the S of the “AP” part of the Sharpie) it has been used. Let’s say you took the Green one and saw the cap wasn’t aligned. So you have a 0 for sure, and a 3 which you don’t know if was used for the 2 nd or 3rd drawing attempt… attempt… doesn’t matter. Pretend to draw something with this Green marker, marker, for a while… then say that you need to draw with more colors to try to visualize her image better… Take another marker, let’s say you pocket the Green Green now  now and take the Red Red from  from the table. Is it aligned? - If it i t is aligned, it wasn’t used, so the one on the table was the one u sed. - If it’s not aligned it’s the one used. Let’s say you say you took Red Red… … as you know, Dagger Dagger would  would have used a Red Marker for Marker for the second part of the Drawing. So if you took the Red Sharpie from the table, table, it shouldn’t be aligned… now you have a Zero at the start, and either a 2 and a 3 OR a 3 and a 2… just need to find this order and you’re done… So now you just need to find out, which one of the two possible orders is the correct one! Possible Combinations.

0 2 3 OR 0 3 2 30

If you have arrived to his point, it means you are  just 2 or 3 words away from knowing her thought of word… which means you would just have to do a little bit bi t of “reading” to get to the exact word, how easy and fan would that be?  That’s right, from just one peek and analyzing the marker caps; you’re able to tell her the exact word she’s thinking of…!!! of… !!! You may want to give a peek right now at the Lazy Crib Sheet to Sheet to understand the codes better. As an exercise, find the corresponding words to 0 2 3  and 0 3 2  and try to imagine useful differences or relations among the properties of those 2 words to try to make a “reading”… Note: Let me just get something clear… If the word is not that easy to draw you can always tell the spectator to draw the first letter(s) in the first color, middle letters in another color and final letters in the third color, an example example would be something like this:

 J A C K P O T Anyway I made sure that most of the words are pretty easy to d raw or imagine…

Additional Idea - Knowing the Number N umber of Used Markers There’s an easy way easy way of finding out if they used 1, 2 or 3 markers: ma rkers: sound. sound. I use a pen holder because holder because when they take a Marker out, it will make a slight sound. As soon as it’s taken and you hear the sound you just count 1 more in your head… of course this is a very useful, additional way to know but I didn’t want the actual method to rely 100% on it, that’s why I decided to explain it supposing you don’t even have a pen holder! So you could perform without it and still get a perfect result, but it would be best if you combine both methods for knowing (sound (sound from the pen holder + cap alignment), alignment ), it will help you to get better get better at this… Some spectators may want to put the marker on the holder as soon as they have used it the first time, leave the holder close to you and also ask them not to do it until the end as they may have to use the same marker again… again… Hope this additional idea saves you time and also gives you more great ideas!

5. The Final Revelation So, we’re ready to the final reveal! When you have multiple options, giving affirmations about the possible object will help you to figure it out very fast… So saying things like: “This is something related to movement, or this is s omething omething that can be eaten and tastes really good, or I’m sensing a sharp blade…”  etc. blade…”  etc. will really help you to get the word, in case you are among 2 or 3 words! This is not only easy to do, it’s also fun and if done right looks like real mindreading!

Event 1 – Chosen Word = Airplane For Event 1, you can reveal the word without any further due. But don’t do it fast, try her to imagine how it feel to be th ere. Make several affirmations about the Airplane, do the drawing, give the sheet of paper to here and tell her not to look yet. Then ask her to call it out loud, and then look at the drawing… drawing…

Event 2 – Chosen Word = Clock We arrived at the combinations: combinations: 022 020 002

If you look at the Lazy Crib Sheet, Sheet, you will find out the following information:

022 = Clock, 020 = Circle, Circle, and… 002 = Axe.

32

So let’s analyze the words… we have a circle, a clock and an axe. Two of them have a clear circular shape, so there’s a bigger chance we may have a hit if we mention this… This would be a good performance script idea… idea… “Ok… so… your object is a circular one right?” - Yes, Yes, it’s circular… - “Yeah I thought so… I think this is something like a really simple figure… right? - Yes… In fact, it’s pretty similar to a triangle or a square, am I right? - Yes… Draw a circle, circle, tell her to hold the drawing without looking and then to reveal the word… Done! If she says it’s not a figure, like a triangle or square, you instantly know it’s the clock… so  just say a couple more of of affirmations about it and you’re ready you’re ready to reveal it too! - No, No, it’s not circular… - “Oh, well but what I actually meant meant is… it’s like something sharp yeah? yeah? -  Yes…  Yes… “ So, So, in that sharp part, it could have a really small semi circular part, like an arc that cuts stuff, if you know what I mean… -  Oh  Oh yeah, I hadn’t seen it that way! “Yes… you could actually chop wood with this… right?” – Sure… – Sure… Draw an axe, tell her to hold the drawing without looking and then to reveal the word… Done!

33

Event 3 – Chosen Word = Dagger For Option 3, we have the combinations: 023 032 If we look at the Lazy Crib Sheet, we have that: 0 2 3 = Dagger 0 3 2 = Drink.

So, we have the possible words: Dagger Dagger and  and Drink. The performance script that would help to sort this out could be… “Ok… concentrate on your object…”  “It’s a solid object, right?”  - Yes… - “Yeah I thought so… it’s something really sharp and it has a blade…”  - No… No… - “Oh, well but what I actually mean is… I actually see something solid around it… like a glass or something… could you imagine a cup or a glass , glass , which is something solid with this thing inside…? -  Yes…  Yes… There you go, turning that No into a solid “Oh Yeah”! So, If she says yes to at least 2 or 3 statements you’re on the right path and should continue, continue, if not, backtrack and remind her she must do th e exact outlined procedure or it won’t work, ask her the exact colors again this time. Now, just put a black marker over the area where you wrote the combinations, this will avoid that the spectator gets to see any numbers when she gets her drawing as a s ouvenir. Hand her the drawing and tell her not to look at it, ask her what her thought of word was, and you’re ready to blow her mind! Enjoy!!!

Zero Brag - Easy Way to Remember the Code Numbers The code is actually pretty easy to remember if you don’ t want to peek at it in the middle of performance, just remember 2 bits of information:

1. First, remember that number zero (0) looks like a letter l etter O, of Orange. 2. Second, remember the word “BRaG”. BRaG”.

It has the letters B (Blue) – 1 R (Red) - 2 And… nd… G (Green) - 3

Zero Brag! Now go out and brag about brag about your fantastic mental powers… ok, not really… now you know how to remember the codes very easily and don’t need the crib sheet with the codes... codes ... 

35

The Theory Behind it This part was written only if you want to understand how the code works. If you hate math, I urge you to skip it and go to the next Method, RandoMental. Rewrite the Crib Sheet– Sheet– Formula if  Formula if necessary: necessary: 16 * ( ___ ) + 4 * ( ___ ) + 1 * ( ___ ) You just have to replace the 3 digit number you got (in ( in the Dagger example it would be 0 3 4 / or if you didn’t peek it could be 0 3 4 or 0 4 3 ) into the spaces that go inside each parenthesis. You’re going to multiply each of these digits by 16, 4 and 1 respectively, respectively , then you’re going to add up these mini-results, and this will give you the final result.

Side Note If you totally suck at math, just remember you won’t encounter in this routine anything more difficult than these simple operations: 16 x 0 = 0

4x0=0

1x0=0

16 x 1 = 16

4x1=4

1x1=1

16 x 2 = 32

4x2=8

1x2=2

16 x 3 = 48

4 x 3 = 12

1x3=3

Ah come on, don’t tell me you y ou needed help with those last 2 columns!!! ¬_¬ End of Side Note

36

OK, let’s continue with the given the given example. Until now, we have that Dagger Dagger   has the digits 0 3 4  because it has the respective colors Orange, Red and Green. If you replace every corresponding digit of this number into the 3 spaces of the formula, then you would have: 16 * ( ___ ) + 4 * ( ___ ) + 1 * ( ___ ) = 16 * ( 0 ) + 4 * ( 2 ) + 1 * ( 3 ) =0+8+3 = 11 So you got the total number: 11. Now look for this number in the Crib Sheet – Word List, List, and see the corresponding word. So, number 11 is a DAGGER DAGGER right?  right?   Just use the code value and formula and you will be fine, always. always. The previous would happen in case you peeked all the time at the cup / holder… But… let’s say you didn’t peek at the final 2 marker choices. If the word was Dagger, and you hadn’t peeked the 2 final times, you would have to solve the formula 2 times. First, let’s replace 0 2 3 into the formula: = 16 * ( 0 ) + 4 * ( 2 ) + 1 * ( 3 ) =0+8+3 = 11 And then, we shall replace 0 3 2: = 16 * ( 0 ) + 4 * ( 3 ) + 1 * ( 2 ) = 0 + 12 + 2 = 14 So know you have words 11 and 14, with aff irmations irmations you will get to know the correct one… after all it’s just a 50 / 50 chance of getting it right!

37

If the word was Clock, and you hadn’t peeked the 2 final times, times , you would have to solve the formula 3 times, for this case I strongly recommend going to the Lazy Crib Sheet at the end of the book and memorizing / writing the 3 possible words, you don’t want to t o lose a lot of time doing mathematical mathematical operations at this point by replacing the 3 combinat combinations ions into the formula. Recapitulating, Recapitulating, the combinations we have from analyzing the caps are: 022 020 002 Now you can guess the word by giving affirmations about it and waiting for feedback …

38

More Examples of Words with the Formula These are just examples of using the formula with different words, try to make them yourself and see if they make sense… just for fun!

Chosen Word: Airplane Colors: Orange, Orange, Orange Final sequence: 0 0 0 Formula: Formula: 0 + 0 + 0 = 0

Chosen Word: Ice Cream Colors: Blue, Green, Orange Final sequence: 1 3 0 Formula: Formula: 16 + 12 1 2 + 0 = 28 Chosen Word: Sun. Colors: Green, Blue, Orange Final sequence: 3 1 0 Formula: Formula: 48 + 4 + 0 = 52

Chosen Word: Vodka. Colors: Colors: Green, G reen, Red, Green Final sequence: sequence: 3 2 3 Formula: Formula: 48 + 8 + 3 = 59

Method No. 2  –  RandoMental  RandoMental This great alternative method was partially thought by the fantastic thinker Paul Carnazzo! Cheers to him! It makes everything look more m ore impossible and random… random… In order to achieve this, you can mark the cards before performing the effect.

Setup - Take card No. 1 on the back and scratch it with an exacto knife, so you will feel the scratch on the center of it without looking. looking. - Make two scratches on the face of Card No. 2, with a separation of 3 to 4 cm. between them so you can feel the two scratches when you slide your finger over it. - For Card No. 3 don’t’ do anything, any thing, just leave it “like a virgin”.

Explanation Tell her to shuffle and give you the cards face down while you stare at the horizon… h orizon… As soon as you have them, shuffle if you want even more with your hands in your back while you look away… just away…  just by touch you will be b e able to recognize what exact cards you have h ave in each hand. Ask her to take any of those cards now. When she does does that, that, you will know its identity… Even if you don’t know at the exact moment which card she took, you may now feel (without looking) the 2 remaining cards you still have in your hands. The The one that’s missing mi ssing is obviously the one she’s staring at.

40

So, obviously this will change things up a little… little… If she took Card No. 2 and then she took the the Orange marker, now you know that the 0 won’t go at the first position, but at the second position, like this:

? 0 ? . But, if she took Card No. 3 and she took the Blue Marker, then the sequence would be:

?

? . 1

So, in a nutshell n utshell:: 1) Ask her to take any card to make it more random. Know what that chosen card was with the exacto knife marks you y ou prepared. This will tell you the exact position – from 1 to 3 - of the digit. digit.

2) Now, use the Basic Method to either: - Peek at the markers that are left on the cup everytime she takes one In this way, deducing deducing which are chosen, as each will tell you the chosen digit – from 1 to 4. Or: - Peek just the first time and at the end just guess which of the two words it is. Which is very easy, and if done right you can just turn any “no” no”  into a yes set with smart affirmations, almost immediately!

Voilá !

41

Method No. 3  –  Friendly  Friendly Relaxation This was my first method: simply asking the spectator for the colors in order to create a visualization exercise. I think the Basic Method (Annemann’s Peek) is Peek) is a brain toaster and I love it!!! i t!!! But, still if you want to ask them for colors, I would justify doing it for 4 reasons (four again, huh?): 1) You will ask them to visualize those colors they say. This makes it more like li ke a visualization experience and less like a “read my mind” challenge. mind” challenge. It takes some heat off the method… method… also makes it more relaxing and can easily be led into a hypnotic trance.

2) Some spectators feel really comfortable just visualizing / closing their eyes and not having to draw anything. 3) Most spectators don’t know what the hell a quaternary system is, and unless they are mathematicians they won’t really care about it, they just want to have fun! 4) You’re performing casually casually for a friend or someone who doesn’t care if you “fail” as “fail”  as a mind reader or not… As you should already know, not every spectator spectator is the same… same… Some want to believe in the mystical powers of the afterworld and want to ask you if they are going to be successful in health, money and love… others love… others just want your sincere affection and attention, so give it to them! As a disadvantage you may say the mentalist has to know everything, everytime… well, eh…  just that’s a point of view, valid but arguable, it really depends entirely on your persona and who you are performing performing for… I’m explaining this second method with method with its full presentation, so if you still are not convinced by how this second method sounds, please go to Method No. 3 now!!!  You devilish devilish sorcerer!!! sorcerer!!!

42

Presentation The Mentalist finishes his cup of tea. Now he takes out a writing pad and 3 mysterious cards, and puts them on the table. “Hey, I would like to ask you something, what are your thoughts on telepathy?”   he asks the young lady. “You know, regardless know, regardless of what we think about it, ancient and tribal cultures used it as a natural part of their human ability to communicate with others… it’s interesting how in modern societies this has changed and it’s rather seen as a power that only some possess… twins for example, as they are brought to life at the same time, they are said to share a similar energy that boosts their telepathic powers…”. “I personally find it a very interesting fact that Telepathy became the first metaphysical phenomenon being studied scientifically since 1885 by the American Society of Psychic Research. The first tests that took place were actually pretty simple; there was a sender and a receiver always. The sender would try to transmit a number, taste or visual colorful image to the receiver”. “ While While I don’t want to alter your perception about this subject, I would really love to make an experiment right now, with just me and you and the power of visualization of our minds…”  “ As As a Mentalist, I carry these cards with me everywhere… everywhe re… right now, you may be asking why”. “Well, when I’m talking to people they usually ask me to read their minds, this is completely normal, but I have found that when someone thinks of any word or piece of information at all and gets in a challenging mood against me I tend to get confused and never give an answer… this happens because as a mentalist I guide myself clearly only when someone makes a vivid, colorful image of their thought or a physical representation of it…”  “So that’s why I ask people to wri te their thoughts down JUST when they are thinking of a specific world, this materialization of a thought in a specific moment helps me to understand what wh at they are visualizing better… b ut, ut, sometimes I don’t ask people to write down their thoughts, in that case I just focus on clear visualizations…”  “These cards  have   have more approximately 70 different words… they are common English words, this has a purpose… it’s not the same thinking about a strange word than thinking about a concrete word that is easy to visualize visu alize in your mind in a bright, colorful and vivid way…  this, along with collaboration from people, really helps me to perceive mental projections in a more effective way.”  way.”  “In a moment I’m going to ask you to think of any of those words… just to think abo ut abo  ut it, memorize it and never tell it to me… and you will help me to visualize that word in 3 colors… this will really help you to project the thought successfully onto my mind…”

43

“Please take Card No. 1 and look at any of those 64 words… and I want you to r etain r etain that word right now in your mind… please don’t tell me the word you’re going to choose…” She takes Card No. 1 and chooses at any word at all. “I think you have chosen… Good… Let your eyes get to that word and see the color of its letters… please vis ualize ualize it in your mind right now… nice… please tell me the color you’re thinking of right now”. - Blue. “Great, now please take a deep breath… and close your eyes… I eyes… I want you to imagine complete darkness… and then, suddenly, this word begins to appear in bright, blue letters, making a dramatic contrast on the black background … very good… I will close my eyes too, and concentrate for a while…” Both close their eyes for a few seconds… seconds … “ That That felt very nice... Please open your eyes … I will begin to draw something, som ething, please give me some seconds ”. ”. The performer draws something but doesn’t let her see and then he puts the pad down. “I want you to take Card No. 2 and find the word you’re thinking of… don’t tell me what it is,  just mention the color of its letters and we we will again try try to visualize visualize something with with this color …” …” - Green. “ Correct  Correct , I want you to close your eyes and imagine a place… think of a massive forest, full of beautiful grass and trees right now… and right from the green grass, those letters you saw a moment ago begin to appear again… the first letter, second letter and all of them begin to appear very clearly… very nice, you have just thought of that word in a beautiful place, please open your eyes… we’re almost done... just done...  just let me draw something more…”  The performer again takes the pad and draws something which is unknown to her. Then he puts the pad down again. “Ok, now… take now… take Card No. 3 and look for the word one final time… so, the color this time is…” Red. “ Fantastic, Fantastic, I want you to think of an emotion associated to that Red color… when empathy is created, positive emotions are ideal for mindreading, so just close your eyes now and think of a positive feeling associated to this color… do you think you could associate this word to the feeling y ou’re ou’re thinking of right now?”  - Yes: “Great just keep associating it in your mind… I’m trying to get to feel you right now… it’s a warm feeling that brings you happiness and joy… you’re doing great…” - No: “It doesn’t really matter as long as you keep sending the positive vibration of that feeling… great…”  “OK, let me take out my pad I will begin to draw something…”

44

“Your word is associated with movement, it is something that you could imagine moving a lot of the time, am I right… – Yes. “Perfect, I ha d sensed that … I think it has something to do with different scenarios you could visit with this … am I right?” – right?”  – Yes. “Correct, please open your eyes… take this drawing and don’t look at it yet…”  “Ok, please tell me, what were you thinking of… for of…  for the firs t time?” – time?” – A boat. “Please look at the drawing I made…”  She sees the drawing of the boat and smiles. “Wow, awesome… you’re awesome, and you did it amazingly well, that’s the power of our minds…!”

Note: Of course you can mix presentations! So, a good idea could c ould be to mix the RandoMental Presentation with this one. First you ask her to mix the cards and hand them to your hands in the back… so there’s no way in which which you could know their order, right? After all, you’re you’re not looking so, it’s impossible… right? Well… not really! Just don’t tell her the cards are secretly marked! So, you could even ask her the color directly (and without having her close her eyes), just tell her to imagine that object in that color in front of her… and her… and repeat it 3 times. I’m I’m pretty sure the mixing of the cards will totally remove her suspicion about a 64 unique combination quaternary system, right? Ok, no more sarcasm for today, it’s not like she’s suspecting it from the first moment but, oh well, don’t run when you’re not being chased… just chased… just have have fun and enjoy life… life…!

45

Method No. 4  –  One  One Eyed Peeking This approach doesn’t use any markers at all. It is a little risky or bold and requires practice and good observation from you. I think it’s amazing, amazing, hope you enjoy it too!!! Step 1: Look L ook at Their Eyes First. Then get an Invisible “ One Ahead” Ahead” asking for Orange and Red. Red . Basically it would go like this: “Ok, I have a lot of words in here… Grab Card No. 1 and and stand in front of the spectator, showing all the words, this has the purpose of looking at their eyes while they are looking at parts of the card. “As you see they have Orange, Blue, Red and Green colors… I want you to think on any of these words, but please don’t choose the first ones  as   as they are very frequently chosen and it would be too easy for me… really…”  So, what this nice patter allows you to do is to m ake them avoid Orange! Orange! I don’t know why, but they also tend to avoid the last column when you say these words… it’s like they don’t want to chose either the first or  or  the last ones, so what this usually does is forcing the Blue or Red colors. colors. Still, you can look at them when they say they have a word, they should be looking at the center of the card and not at any of the sides… if they’re looking on the right side (of them) you know they went for the Green. Green . “Great… so you are thinking about any of these words right now, just look at its color letters very closely …”  …”  Look at where each eye is staring, ¿is it looking at the center of the card? ¿Is it looking at any of the sides? The more you practice, the better and more accurate you’ll get at this. this. I usually get now a 100% hit of knowing the exact color instantly. Come join us, become a master eye reader! 46

Ok, go back to the dialogue, you should ask for Orange and Red, like this: “You’re not thinking about Orange…” – No. “I knew that… you’re thinking about RED , actually…” Scenario 1 – No,  No, it’s not Red… Red… “ Ok, Ok, ok, don’t worry, please don’t tell me about any color unless I ask you to do so…  just imagine that word r ight ight now in the color you have in mind…”  So, what you have just done is actually going wrong and at the same time going one ahead! ahead! You know that Orange and Red weren’t chosen… so so it must have been either Blue or Green… Green… Therefore, the first digit must be either a 1 or a 3… 3 … what I suggest is being brave and trusting your instinct… instinct… If she was looking at the center of the card, count it as Blue (or 1)! If she was looking at the side, count it as a Green (or 3)! Scenario 2 – Yes,  Yes, it’s Red! “ Great Great I knew that … now just keep imagining that word in that color please…”  So, in this given case, you know that the first digit is a 2.

So, in a nutshell, in both scenarios you know the exact first color / digit, which is pretty useful...!

47

Step 2: Look at her eyes again and ask for a visualization. Until this point, you know the first fi rst color / digit. For the sake of giving an example, let’s say she picked up Blue (1) as a first color. color . Repeat a very similar procedure as before, h old the card in front of them and say: “Ok, this is the second card… look for the word , see its color now …”  …”  Time to peek at the direction of her eyes… “Please keep staring at the word and really focus on the color it’s written in… don’t tell me what it is, just visualize that color in your mi nd nd right now…”  Ok, if you are a good eye reader you may know the exact color by now! If you are a normal eye reader then you may be between two possible colors the spectator looked at. The possibilities will always be adjacent colors, colors, depending on where they are approximately looking. Where are they looking at?

Possible Colors

Corresponding Possible Numbers

First part of the card

Orange or Blue

01

Center of the card

Blue or Red

12

Last Part of the Card

Red or Green

23

(They look to their left side, which would be your right hand sustaining the card)

(They look to their right side, which would be your left hand sustaining the card)

Note: This adjacency of possibilities, is the reason why we first asked about Orange and Red , it will help us to really determine if their first color is Blue  (Eyes   (Eyes staring at the Center) or Green (Eyes staring at the Side) without any possibility of failure. 48

Back to the subject, let’s let’s say she was staring this second time at the first part of the card but card  but you’re not sure exactly sure exactly at what color… color… So, for this second round, round, the combination combination would be 0, 1. OK, let’s let’s make a quick review of what we have h ave until now… now… First she chose a Blue (we Blue (we just got to an agreement that she had chosen that color), and then she chose either Orange or Blue, so what we should have in our minds is the following:

0

0/1

? .

Step 3: Ending. “Ok, this is the final card… look for the word , see its color now … great… but  this   this time just tell me which color it is to really make a great visualization this time… in time… in a colorful, vivid way… I haven’t asked you about anything else right?”  right? ”  – No you haven’t…! Ok, the color is Green.

So, we’re ready now… The final combination would be:

0 So we just have 2 possibilities, which which are: 003 013 Let’s look at the Lazy Crib Sheet… 0 0 3 = Bell 0 1 3 = Car

49

0/1

3.

It’s a 50/50 chance, chance, so why not n ot going for it! The dialogue could be something like:

“Ok, just think about your word… you’re thinking about a solid o bject, right?” right?” –  Yes.  Yes. Both are solid so she should say yes. “I thought so… could you get inside this object, or would it be absurd or uncomfortable to imagine you inside of it?” –  – Oh Oh yeah, I could get inside of it... Car. – Whoa, –  Whoa, I guess I would not feel very comfy…

Bell.

Alternative Reveal If you don’t want to do it like before, like  before, you can can always do a progressive progressive anagram bluff! bluff! Just tell her first you’re seeing an “a” in your mind… in that word… if she says yes, it’s the Car. If she says no, just no,  just say… “Oh, it’s o k, k, sometimes I get impressions of letters but they are twisted around… so I can get that “ a” and if I turn it around 180 degrees degrees in my mind, I will get a nice “ e”… I’m pretty sure you have an E in there... am I right?” –  Yes.  Yes.  You’re right right again, again, as usual! Have fun!

50

Method No. 5  –  2  2 Card Color Reading Recently, I have fallen in love with this method  because it’s very direct, practical and it gives you the possibility to tell the spectator important aspects about his personality… personality… If you’re creative enough, enough, you could even present it as a reading for what the future has for them… It gives a very interesting context to the effect, and allows you to achieve several positive things at the same time: I) It allows you to give them a personality reading based on the chosen color, and justifies I) It the use of those colors in the cards, with color psychology. II) It II)  It allows you to only use 2 cards and you only need to ask for one color. Two cards, one color… yet you know a word among almost 70 almost immediately, I think I just heard “amazing amazing”” in your mind..? mind.. ? III) It III)  It allows you to focus on presentation as it’s pretty easy to easy  to do. IV)  It allows you to ignore markers, no need to draw anything unless you, the performer, IV)  wants to reveal the information like that.

51

Color Psychology – Personality Associations The following personality associations are based on actual color psychology. psychology. They will be used for this method / performance. Memorizing them is very easy; you should only memorize the positive stuff. Don’t ever tell them negative things about themselves, only positive stuff, always…! always…!  The negative associations are only there if you’re curious to know more about this interesting subject... Of course not all positive or negative associations will necessarily fit for one person, but with good observation and previous talking with the spectator, you will be able to know which associations suit best for him or her… her…

Method – General First you will explain that Card no. 1  1  has 4 colors which represent 4 different types of personalities according personalities  according to color psychology. Therefore, Card No. 1 will allow you to know what type of personality the spectator has. Then, you may explain Card No. 2  2  is related to visualization , as these are primary colors which will allow the spectator to create a mental picture of the chosen word. Now the effect really begins. The procedure will be similar as Method No. 4, only 2 cards and the personality reading you give to the spectator. This means, you hit the first color straight away, and give them a reading based on their thought of color… Then, you can ask for the second color or simply try to hit it… As soon as you know it, ask them to visualize the word as an image with the corresponding  background color color to Card No. 2. As crazy as it sounds, you’re almost ready at this point to reveal their word, in any possible way you like…

53

Method – Step by Step 1. Get Card No. 1 and 2 Ready… Ready… you can leave Card No. 3 at home if you want. Remember the following: f ollowing: Card No. 1 = Personality Card. Card No. 2 = Visualization Card. 2. Show the 2 cards and begin your patter. It will give a great context and meaning to the effect. “…You may have noticed the words have 4 diff erent erent colors in Card No. 1”. “These colors represent 4 different types of personalities according to color psychology… which is the study of choice of color as a determinant factor factor of human behavior…”  behavior…”  “Orange is a positive color for optimistic people, thi s is the kind of person that you will find cheering up everyone they know and giving tons of good advice… they advice…  they are very warm and social people, that love communicating with others and guiding them with helpful ideas, they tend to inspire to act upon their encouraging words…”  “They also tend to rely on o n their gut instinct to make a decision…” “Blue is a color that represents trust and loyalty… they tend to be more reserved and quiet but they are also very sincere and bold people… they don’t like to draw too much attention or to get into useless confrontations… this is an independent person that likes things done in his own way…”  “They are responsible and reliable people; they have a very ordered way to seek direction in life…” “So, we can already perceive a nice contrast of personalities between these 2 colors, Orange is a more social person, Blue is not so social with everyone, but is more like a great thinker that has strength in his convictions… and can be very persuasive if he wants to…”  “Red is the color of passion, energy and vitality… like blood, it relate s to life-force, they are people that love action or movement related activities, like sports, dancing, walking, running and they also tend to be very romantic with the people they love and care about…”  “Finally, Green, is more like a spiritual color… it represents   balance, harmony and emotional stability. This kind of person has a great love for nature, family, friends, pets and their home… it is a caring, friendly person that can keep secrets very wisely…” “I’m pretty sure one of the personalities p ersonalities I mentioned, relates to you more than the others…”  54

“ I would like you to choose a word that has the same color according to the personality that suits you best …”  …”  “A s I said, Orange is for positive, warm people; Blue is for independent thinkers; Red is for action-driven, passionate individuals and Green is for more spiritual people that love nature and animals in general…”  “So, please go ahead… think about your personality and the color i t relates to… good…”  “Now choose a word that has that same color…”  3. Make the same Orange / Red procedure explained as in Method 4, or simply go for the one you feel he chose: no pain, no gain. According According to the first possible suggested option, you would say something like: “I’m pretty confident you thought about Orange or Red because you seem like a really positive person…”  Watch her expression as you’re saying this (for example, example, see if she nods), and depending on the positive or negative expression, continue saying… saying… - Positive expression “Yeah, so it’s red, you’re an action driven person, right?” – “You’re totally right” . - Negative expression ”… but still it wouldn’t surprise me if you went for blue as you could have the positive element that orange and red have, and still be a fantastic thinker…”  – “Yeah, – “Yeah, you’re right, I’m positive but I like to think a lot lo t and I like people to trust me…”  For the sake of an example, let’s say she actually chose Red Red (  (Number Number 2). 2). Summing things up until this point; as soon as you know the color, you keep complementing the reading that you gave at the start, start , and for example you can say something like: “Yeah,, I thought you would choose Red … you seem like a very energetic person, etc …”  “Yeah …”  Another good answer could be similar to this one: “ You You have just confirmed my suspicions by choosing Blue; you seem like the type of person that would never let a real friend down, etc…”

4. Now for the Second Card, you have 2 options: a - Be brave and try to exactly guess the second color without asking. After you hit it, ask for a visualization of their thought of word in that color. color. If you got 2 hits, it will play really strong as the spectator will see it as a process where NO QUESTIONS were QUESTIONS were asked at all. I have accomplished this several times, and it’s not that hard as probabilities are on your side, much more if you’re good at watching them… B - Ask them for the exact color, so they can visualize the thought of word properly. properly. Let´s suppose that for any of the options (a ( a or b) we got to the Blue Blue   color for this second round and asked the spectator to visualize vi sualize the word. 5. You’re 5. You’re ready for the the reveal. Ok, now you have to fish among just 4 possible words! This is the situation right now:

2 1 0/1/2/3 According According to the Lazy Crib Sheet: 2 1 0 = Magician 2 1 1 = Mirror 2 1 2 = Mountain 2 1 3 = Needles We will just use some really basic anagrams. The more probable is their word has an M at the beginning, so go for it. If they say No to an M you instantly know it’s the Needles. Needles. If they say Yes say Yes to an M, now ask for an N in their word. If they say No, you instantly know it’s the Mirror. Mirror. If they say Yes say  Yes to an N, now ask for a “strange looking c” (Magician) c”  (Magician),, of course if they say No it would turn magically into a “u” (Mountain) “u” (Mountain) that  that you were receiving mentally… m entally… This method is very flexible, it can be performed in minutes and it will give something positive for the spectator to remember, aside from fr om demonstrating your telepathic telepathic abilities. It’s very direct; spectators show genuine surprise when performed. I hope you really enjoy it and try it out! 56

Method No. 6 - Electronism Electronic Mentalism (Electronism?) (Electronism?) is getting stronger with each day that passes by… by… Peeks, switches, center tears, etc., are getting old… well, old…  well, not really! I love classic mentalism… and you should too… too… and the very reliable center tear always al ways proves to fry everyone’s minds! minds! But… it’s good to mix old and new concepts! Getting straight to the point, this method requires having Color Match  by Craig Fillicetti, Fillicetti , it will allow you to perf orm orm the effect without getting close or peeking… peeking… with  with you being literally  blindfolded.  blindfolded. In other words, it will make you look like a heretic sorcerer that made a pact with The Devil himself! Well, I don’t really think I need to explain a lot for this method, meth od, so I’m giving a very short but detailed outline about how it would work.

57

Explanation 1. Have Have your “tag” markers inside a cup, ready to get taken by one or multiple spectators.

Orange Marker – 1 Blue Marker – 2 Red Marker - 3 Green Marker - 4 2. Blindfold yourself or let someone else help you do it. 3. Get the read and count one less. When one (or more) spectators take one of the markers, you will know which one they took, immediately. So just count in your y our mind one number less from what you get cued… This means, if you get the read of a 1, count a 0 in your mind, if you read a 2 count a 1, etc… etc… 4. Repeat the process until you form the 3 digit number in your head. If you don’t get a new reading, the spectator is using the same marker as before, before, so just repeat the first number you got in your mind as a second or third digit.

5. Open the pad, and peek at the crib sheet… you’re done and can reveal it anyway you want!

58

Bonus: Telepathic Whisper  –  Stage  Stage As a Stage piece, you could do it with 3 spectators and it would look amazing. Just hand out the cards to 3 spectators, make sure you always keep track of the correct order. Ask spectator 1 (that of course has Card No. 1) to think of any of those words and whisper it to his two friends. Ask each of them to keep k eep staring at the word and most importantl im portantly, y, remember the color of the thought of word. Now you ask Spectator 1 to think of the word and imagine it appearing in (Orange / Blue / Red / Green) letters in his mind. Pretend to draw something, actually writing the correct number code. Ask Spectator 2 to imagine the new color and associate it to a place. Pretend to draw something, again… take some seconds to do your bluff… and bluff… and write the second number. Finally ask spectator 3 to see if he / she can imagine an emotion associated to the color. Write the final number and look for the word while you pretend to draw. Fish just a little, by giving a statement about the word; you want to make sure that it is the correct word without any mistake, right? - If they say no to your statement, just ask them to focus on the colors again (only the colors as to not make m ake longer the presentation), get it right this time and make a correct statement… - If they say yes at your statement, end the routine, asking them what the word was, and showing your drawing to everyone and asking them previously to get crazy if you got something like this right… Make the final drawing that represents the word, hand it to any of them and ask them to say out loud the thought of word wor d for the first time… now show the drawing and blow their minds! It’s pretty direct; of course you could use markers as explained or combine any of the previously explained methods… Hope you enjoy this! Cheers! 59

The Lazy Crib Sheet So you still hate h ate mathematics, eh? Don’t blame you, I like it but I’m not a fan of advanced calculus with triple integrals either… either… I’ve decided to make life easier for everybody. Without further delay, I present The Lazy Crib Sheet.

If you look at the Lazy Crib Sheet you won’t need won’t need to apply the formula, just write or memo m emorize rize the 3 possible digit combinations combinations and look for the possible word(s) in the list. You will instantly know what word(s) has / have been thought thought of. Go to the next page… Enjoy… Enjoy…
