A great idea by Richard Osterlind was taught by him as follows: When using a stack deck and wanting the spectator to help handle it etc., always use a deck of jumbo cards. This way you can mention that these cards are really too big to shuffle like a regular deck so lets mix them the best we can like this. Spread off portions of the deck from the top and place them on the bottom. This cutting sequence sells the idea of the cards being mixed while all the helper is doing is cutting them. It also keeps them from trying to shuffle them where in most cases they will drop them or bend them.
