Amigurumi Seahorse Free Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations

What you need

This pattern uses

‣ DK / worsted yarn in a colour of your choice

American terminology. ch = chain

‣ 3 / 3.50 mm crochet hook

chs = chains

‣ 6 mm black safety eyes

st = stitch

‣ Polyester stuffing

sts = stitches sc = single crochet

‣ 1 pipe cleaner

hdc = half double crochet inc = increase

‣ Yarn needle

dec = decrease

‣ Stitch marker for working in the round

ss = slip stitch sk = skip

Techniques & Stitches

CC = change color mr = magic ring BLO = in back loops only

‣ Magic ring

FLO = in front loops only

‣ Single crochet

FO = fasten off

‣ Half double crochet ‣ Crochet in the round ‣ Crochet in back loops only ‣ Crochet in front loops only

Head

Neck

R1: Sc 5 in magic ring (5) R2: sc in each (BLO) (5) R3-5: sc in each for three rounds. (5) R6: inc in first, sc in next 4 (6) Stuff nose with the beginning tail of yarn. R7: inc x 3, sc in last 3 (9) R8: (inc, sc 1) x 3, sc in last 3 (12) R9: (inc, sc 2) x 3, sc in last 3 (15) R10: (inc, sc 3) x 3, sc in last 3 (18) R11-12: sc in each for two rounds (18) Insert safety eyes. To determine the position for the left eye, count 5 sts to the right of the hook and 3 rounds down. Insert the right eye 6 sts away from the left one.

R15: inc x 3, dec x 4, inc x 1 R16: inc x 4, dec x 4 R17: dec x 1, inc x 4, dec x 3 R18: Repeat R17 R19: sc in each Stuff. Carry on with body.

R13: (dec, 4) x 3 (15) R14: (dec, 3) x 3 (12) Stuff head. If you find the eye stems are too long on the inside, trim the ends. Carry on with the neck.

R20: (inc, sc 3) x 3 (15) R21-22: sc in each for 2 rounds (15) R23: sc x 7, inc x 3, sc x 5 (18) (the increases on this round are for shaping the seahorse's belly) R24-27: sc in each for 4 rounds (18) R28: (dec, sc 4) x 3 (15) R29-30: sc in each for 2 rounds (15) R31: (dec, sc 3) x 3 (12) R32-33: sc in each for 2 rounds (12) Stuff, pushing the stuffing towards the belly to shape the seahorse. Continue stuffing as you go. R34: (dec, sc 2) x 3 (9)

Body & Tail (continued) R35: sc in each R36: (dec, sc 1) x 3 R37-40: sc in each for 4 rounds Stuff. Insert pipe cleaner.

Fin Chain 4, leaving long tail for sewing R1: 2 hdc in second chain from the hook, 1 hdc in next, 2 hdc in last, ch 2, turn (5 hdc) R2: 1 hdc in each (5 hdc) Sew to back. And here it is! Your little seahorse is done.

R41-43: sc in each for 3 rounds (FLO) (6) R44: dec, sc 4 (FLO) (5) R45-48: sc in each for 4 rounds (FLO) (5) Cut leftover pipe cleaner. Fasten off. Curl the tail. Bend head towards the body and sew in place.
