RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SURROUNDING Lush

green landscaped area, small patches of greens, trees, and green open spaces included with various terrace gardens help to control microclimate of the site and gives its part in continuing the green, fresh and natural environment of the LODI ESTATE area.

THE SURROUNDING

The India

International Centre, the Ford Foundation, the WWF, UNICEF, IIC Annexe, and later with the World Bank, the INTACH and the Chinmaya Mission surrounds the AFD.

CONCEPT The concept was the creation of

an institution reflecting the image of France and India together.

STUDY OF OUTDOOR SPACES(PERGOLA) THE PERGOLA: This massive structure that covers the entire

building at 15m.

It is the high tech component of the project

 Solar Glass panels to generate energy for the

computer UPS and external lighting and fabric louvers that regulate the direct sun are integrated into the pergola structure.  Its monumental character illustrates the

architecture of shamianas – architecture for events.

STUDY OF OUTDOOR SPACES (LANDSCAPE) All the trees have been

protected and integrated into the project scheme.

Terrace gardens creates a

tri-dimensional garden. The intermediate terraces are planted with giant leaves bushes and bamboos.

The Plinth: A large plinth in

mandana stone is giving unity to outdoor spaces. SWOT ANALYSIS

STUDY OF INDOOR SPACES(LIBRARY)  The Media Library consist of

more than 18000 books,2500 DVD,2200 CD,350 CD Roms,4000 children documents,90 magazines,12 computers. Services: Radio and television Computers Access to the French library is free of cost and it’s open to all.

The auditorium is a cozy 112-seater facility

equipped with necessary audiovisual, light and projection facilities.

The cozy ambience inside is embellished with sleek, ergonomically superb ash wood finish seating

STUDY OF ART GALLERY Area of 180 sq. metres. Rising from the basement, a portion of the gallery

rises to a height of 40’, enclosing space in a dazzling box of glass, aiding accompanying displays of large banners bathed in the gentle sunshine that filters through.

 It is an arresting sight from far away on the road. The small open space as one walks down the step is

ideal for displays of sculptures, as well as for servicing receptions at Openings.

MERITS MERITS The ALLIANCE FRANÇOISE is a part of the Lodi estate area which itself is a merit as the area includes many other convention and cultural areas, so it brings a lot people being attracted towards it. Its beautiful pink building, with affective use

of

clear glass gives a building a modern look of which the French are proud in their homeland. The planning of spaces and

merging them with the open environment is commendable.
