Inner ALCHEMY Yogi Alchemists In 1950, in a small village named Shehna, in the state of Punjab in North India, some people were playing cards when a nomadic Fakir came. The youth in those days used to consume tobacco (from a smoking pipe) and some used to add ganja or marijuana to it. They were attracted to such Fakirs because they thought that these Fakirs and Babas had a ready stock of this stuff. Babas and Fakirs were wandering Sadhus. They were travellers and roamed over large
areas where they had easy access to such stuff. They would use the juice or extracts of leaves of ganja by crushing these on their palms with their fingers and put the extract in their smoking pipes (chillums). This was the tradition that the young and the old enjoyed. So, when the Baba said, “Baccha, chillum bana do (he meant prepare the chillum for a smoke),” they all readily agreed. The group sat to play cards outside the shop of a jeweller. Baba said that instead of a small stone used at the bottom of chillum to stop the tobacco from falling, he would use a one-paisa coin (made of copper), as it would give more pleasure. All were in the mood for enjoyment, so nobody objected. He took out a one paisa coin (made of copper), put it in the chillum, filled the tobacco and took turns at puffing on it. After enjoying the smoke for a while, Baba requested for a cup of tea. Baba took tea, blessed everyone there and went ahead on his journey.

The people kept on playing cards. After a few rounds, they thought of refilling the chillum and emptied its contents. When they were clearing the ash, the coin fell out, and after the goldsmith, playing cards in the group, brushed the coin to put it back, he saw that the edges of the coin had turned golden in colour. This got everyone interested. The goldsmith could not hold himself back and went ahead to clean and test the coin. To everyone’s surprise the copper coin had turned into gold. Thirty years after this episode, my Nanaji (maternal grandfather) narrated me this story. He had witnessed this incident as he was among the chillum party. I saw the coin in 1983; then again, I saw it in 1990, again in 1995 and finally in 1996. With great reverence, my grandfather kept the coin as a blessing of the Baba in his pujasthan. He narrated me that all of them searched for the Baba for several years but failed to find him. This childhood story had a lasting impression

on my deep Inner Mind. It made me accept and believe that such things do happen, naturally. A curiosity arose in me to know how all these things happen. As a result of that curiosity, stories and books which had unexplained mysteries had always attracted me. Another similar story, which I got to know, relates to a Jain Sthanak (an area where Jain saints live) in Pahadi Dheeraj—an area in old Delhi. My father is a witness to this incident. He had gone to pay his reverence to an old Jain Muni (Sadhu Atmaramji Maharaj) who was staying there. The saint was old, but had glow on his face which was natural. He belonged to a prominent jeweller’s family from Jaipur, India. There was an old lady who knew the saint for many years, she had been their neighbour. She kept on persistently asking him that after all what did he achieve by abandoning a life full of riches and abundance. The saint kept on smiling. He replied, “I got what I wanted, I got what even the riches could not

give me.” But the lady kept on asking that if he had got married, he would have had children, and so on and so forth. The saint continued to smile and remained calm and composed. Then he picked up his walking stick which had a brass handle. He held the stick and closed his eyes for a few seconds. Then he gave the stick to the lady and said, “Yeh mil gaya” (this is what I have got). The part of the metallic handle he had held in his hand had turned into gold. It was a miraculous incident. Such incidents developed a strong belief in me that such miracles do happen and made me curious about the unknown. In the incident related to the Fakir and the chillum, I thought it to be some kind of a chemical reaction. But the Jain Muni had nothing on him that could have transformed into gold. It seems that something changes inside us which converts any metal to gold. Whether it is a metal, a person, or a condition of the person, it seemed possible to develop such

an ability with which these could be converted to a precious metal or a precious state. I was not interested in just converting metal to gold, but my greatest curiosity was to know how this happens, and the curiosity grew deeper with time. This curiosity was not satisfied till my Guru answered this question – “there is something inside us which transforms the quality of things, of situations and of people. It is only through the Inner Mind that this internal process converts mud as well as metal into gold.” Not only the West, but the whole world has been trying to change any metal into gold. Some have succeeded too. But the moment this happens inside, the very purpose for which this alchemy is done ceases to exist. Whether in the West, in case of occultists who tried and succeeded; or in the East, it stands true with everyone. This is because it requires a person to perform this. Those who have acquired this capability did not feel like repeating it (to prove anything).

For example, if you are given a parasmani (a stone, which on mere contact with a metal turns it into gold) would you turn everything to gold? Will you make a heap of gold just for its own sake? Somehow, a person who can do this at anytime, anywhere, will usually not be interested in doing it, to show off his powers. But the one seeking this knowledge has a purpose – to use it in order to succeed in other paths of life. There have been many experiments in the East, especially in India and China, in which a person who had mastered this skill was no longer interested in it and those who were, usually never mastered it.
Tantra of Alchemy Hence the Vedic alchemists embraced this art of Inner Alchemy, developed it and took it forward. They found that in a specific state of Inner Mind this transformation can be made to happen but, if some individual reaches that state

with sadhana, he finds that gold does not hold any special value for him. For betterment of the world, for the evolution of human Mind, for improving the quality of life, for progress or to find solutions to challenges of life – these techniques of inner mind were used. To make the body healthier and free of diseases – Ayurveda was developed on the basis of these techniques. On the same lines, Yoga was developed to remove negative state of Mind and evolve it. The same knowledge was applied in designing of buildings, in the form of Vastu Shastra, to get success, growth and happiness in life. Inner Mind is a special condition that grants the capacity to bring about changes in the outer space. Saints went inside them and reached such a state which altered the quality of things in the outer world. The time when the Fakir was extracting ganja juice from leaves, at that very moment he

attained that state. So when he put that juice on the copper coin and lit a matchstick, the coin changed its property (gunvatta) and got converted into gold. So, how to attain that special state of the Inner Mind (Space within), which is capable of changing the external world, through the inner space of the building? Can we create such a space in a building in which a person would not have to go deep into sadhana (meditative practice)? In the field of Alchemy, Mind is believed to have originated from space; space inside a building is considered to be the one which governs the Inner Mind. For thousands of years, Yogis and Tantriks, successfully researched on how to tune the space inside a building at the frequency where whatever is gained in the inner space (in the Inner Mind) by ‘sadhana’ also manifests in the outer space (through the building). Whoever entered that space (inside a building)

gets synchronised with the (building) space, thereby, making it possible to alter (improve) the condition of his life. Yoga and Tantra made it possible also.
The Alchemy of Space In my opinion, experiments must have continued for thousands of years because the temples constructed by Hindu Kings were built on these principles. I am referring to ancient, historical temples made on the techniques of Yoga and Tantra. If we see the archaeological documents, it seems that people had the techniques to create this space 10,000 years ago. Different spaces were designed to achieve their desired objectives. The same principles and methods have been applied to palaces and sadhana sthals. When I was visiting these ancient buildings to gather information, I realised that these techniques of Alchemy were used mainly in three types of construction: places of dhyan (especially, those
