INTRODUCTION A specific geographic region in a country demarcated for setting up agri based processing industries, mainly for export. The term is widely used mainly in India. Concept of AEZ inserted by GOI under chapter 16 of EXIM Policy 2001. APEDA has been nominated as the nodal agency to coordinate the efforts on the part of central Govt. negotiations. 3
OBJECTIVE To cope up with fast changing international trade
environment. To provide remunerative returns to the farming
community in a sustained manner.
To provide improved access to the produce/ products of the Agriculture and Allied sectors in the international market.

COMPONENTS OF AEZ CONCEPT The major components of this comprehensive concept are cluster approach of identifying the potential products and geographical region in which these products are grown adopting an end-to-end approach of integrating the entire process, right from the stage of production till it reaches the consumption stage Integration of the activities of various agencies connected with the department of the product 5
PRESENT STATUS
60 AEZs spread over 20 states
1st AEZ notified in 2001
Last in December 2005(Gunture, A.P for chilli)
Total investment over 4 yrs.- Rs.811 crores
Exports over 4 yrs.- Rs. 5110 crores
Maharashtra managed to invest Rs.168 crore for flowers, Rs.110 crore for Grapes AEZ
Karnataka invested Rs.87 crore for gherkins AEZ 6
CONTuu.. The countrys farm product export in value terms has
surged to over Rs.80,600 crore in the last three years, i.e 2006-09. Food grains, oil meals and fruits and vegetables
witnessing maximum demand overseas. Indias agri-export
turnover expected to double in the next five years, according to APEDA,

$ 9 billion to nearly US $ 18 billion by 2014.
At present, around 70 percent of the countrys agricultural and processed food exports are to developing countries in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and South America.
