Description

ACTICIDE® IPA 20 Development Biocide Product Information ACTICIDE® IPA 20 is a broad spectrum biocide specially developed for the dry film protection of surface coatings, paints and other products from fungal growth. ACTICIDE® IPA 20 incorporates novel Thor AMME™ technology to give significantly improved resistance of the active agent to alkaline pH, UV, temperature and leaching thus providing better long term stability and efficacy.

Chemical and Physical Characteristics Composition: Appearance: Odour: IPBC content: Solubility in water: Stability in application*:

AMME™ 3-iodo-2-propynylbutylcarbamate (IPBC) White to beige dispersion Mild 19.00 – 21.00 % Fully miscible Improved UV, temperature and alkaline stability and reduced leaching compared with traditional IPBC formulations

Note: These characteristics do not constitute a sales specification

Biocidal Properties ACTICIDE® IPA 20 provides a broad spectrum of anti-fungal efficacy including activity against the following organisms:

Alternaria alternata Aspergillus niger Aspergillus oryzae Aureobasidium pullulans Chaetomium globosum Cladosporium cladosporoides Cladosporium resinae Fusarium sp. Gliocladium virens

Test Organisms Moulds Lentinus tigrinus Penicillium funiculosum Penicillium glaucum Penicillium ochrochloron Phoma sp. Rhizopus stolonifer Sclerophoma pithyophila Trichoderma viride Ulocladium atrum

Yeasts Candida albicans Rhodotorula rubra Saccharomyces cerevisiae Sporobolomyces roseus

Applications / Use Levels ACTICIDE® IPA 20 incorporates novel Thor AMME™ technology to give improved resistance to alkaline pH, UV, temperature, volatility and leaching. ACTICIDE® IPA 20 is recommended for the protection of surfaces and products, including interior and exterior coatings, adhesives, fillers and sealants, from fungal growth. It is particularly suitable for the long term protection of wood coatings from surface mould growth. For protection of water based products from bacterial and fungal infection in the wet state the additional use of one of Thor's wide range of in-can preservatives is recommended. Optimum use concentrations will depend on the required properties of the product and the environment in which it is to be exposed. Normal addition levels are in the range 0.125 - 2.0%. The local Thor Microbiological Technical Centre can assist in determining the precise concentration required for specific applications.

Method of Use / Compatibility ACTICIDE® IPA 20 should be added at the end of the production cycle. During and after addition of ACTICIDE® IPA 20 shearing should be kept as low as possible in order to maintain the product’s protective properties. ACTICIDE® IPA 20 exhibits no compatibility problems in most practical applications. However, due to the large range of possible applications, it is recommended that the stability of the active ingredients, system compatibility and any influences on the product properties during production, storage, transport and in the application are tested prior to use. The use of oxidising, reducing agents and nucleophiles which may adversely affect active ingredient stability should be avoided. Care should be taken to ensure that temperature, pH and redox potential at the point of addition are suitable for stability of the product. In very rare cases the presence of certain metal soaps and solvents can lead to dehydrohalogenation reactions, especially in the end product when filling and storing in non coated metal cans could lead to corrosion. Products sensitive to discolouration should be tested adequately for colour stability. It is generally recommended to routinely test for changes in chemical and physical properties such as discolouration (colour stability), viscosity and odour, for each individual matrix system, as well as the effects of external factors such as pH, moisture, temperature and UV light. Prior to use, ACTICIDE® IPA 20 must not be diluted or mixed with other raw materials to avoid negative impact on the active agent.
