Notation System The transcriptions in this booklet employ a combination of two notation systems: Standard musical notation and tablature (TAB). Time signatures and rhythmic values are given in standard notation. Since the lines played by the right-hand thumb and fingers should be thought of as independent parts, separate rhythmic values are usually indicated for each. For those who are unfamiliar with tablature, this is a system used to indicate the exact location on the neck for each note. The six horizontal lines represent the six strings of the guitar, with the low E on the bottom. A number on a line of tablature designates the fret at which the left hand depresses that string. For instance, a 2 positioned on the top line would mean to play the second fret on the first string (0 indicates an open string).
